"I searched far and wide...in Bing"
"What is sheen? Best way to describe it? It's sheen!"
"It's like 9/11! Everyone is pulling together!"
This is my favorite Blender modeling teacher
Yeah, I was like "Bing? REALLY!?" LOL And the 9/11 ref, just uh, wow. ROFL
When Andrew says "i just learned that" helps me in times i feel discouraged about my work. i tell myself if Andrew with this much knowledge is still learning then the scale of information is so large i shouldnt feel bad for feeling lost at times!
yeah, i felt the same. Andrew is so humble and honest about what he does not know and learns right there & then.
I have heard that a true master always has the heart of an apprentice
i just learned that his name is andrew
@@aezeryst it's never too late, pal...
Next tutorial goes up tomorrow! Sorry for the delay but fabric seams were harder than I thought :P
Blender Guru No Probs , but just don't make it like a montage
I almost completed my couch by adding pillow and fabric on top of it. Now I just want to see how you create creases and realistic rendering.
It is a lot harder. i tried the method you used for the teddy bear tutorial and failed. My PC freezes when i applied the modifiers to the rest of the pillows, it used way too much memory.
Excited to see the next few parts! I put in an HDRI and did a render on a greyish background and the couch seems pretty close to being done, so I'm excited for these final touches!
Always love the tutorials man! Thanks for Poliigon and the variation in tutorials you've had over the years and continue to put out! You're awesome!
Thank you as always :)
Andrew, I don't care if you make an 10sec ad or a 30min ad for poliigon, I'll watch it. I, as many others, owe you so much that I would gladly watch the ad. Don't be afraid and promote poliigon as much as you want, you deserve it.
Thanks mate :)
@@blenderguru Thank you!
Amen to that, can't thank Andrew enough for the incredible amount of knowledge he has shared for free :)
I like how his tutorials are just smooth poliigon ads, he's truly the guru.
That's advertisement done in the right way :D
Sir... After using 3dsmax for years... You convinced me to switch to blender. Thanks for the videos! ❤️
Right, max is kaka now
Good choice, Very good choice.
Very wise decision
Can you tell me why u change to blender ??
master human primitive It’s free. It’s relatively easy to learn. You can do pretty much all 3D stuff (modelling, animation, simulation, etc.). It has a huge community and it’s easy to find tutorials for it
14:37 youre actually supposed to use distance value. strength does a strange fade with the bump but distance properly effects the bump. using the wrong one can cause shading issues.
I looked it up, and you're right! TIL. I'll include this in the next video, thanks!
@@blenderguru hello andrew I've been having issues with the shortcut pdf no matter how many times I put my email in it never sends it to me can you help me?
P.S:thanks for making these amazing videos
@@blenderguru just a heads up. bump maps get effcted by the scale of the object. so if you make something smaller or bigger you may have to reconfigure the values.
@@miniminer6789 I had the same issue. Try a different email (gmail worked for me).
Hi.. looks u've got no problem with this video tutorial. I got a problem, I hope u can help me to solve it, why do there's no material appeared after I pasted the texture directory in Poliigon Material Converter? Thanks before.
I am right now following your advice of doing one tutorial and then a personal project. Right now I am doing the personal project, but as soon as I finish I will come check out this series. Keep up the good work Andrew, and thank you for helping us all to learn more Blender.
Watching this series has really helped me see why homemade furniture in indie games often look so out of scale, shiny, seamless, and untextured 😂 oh man who knew making a sofa was so much time-consuming and complicated work 😅 very interesting!
one of the best tutorial series ever. I press like first then watch the videos. thank you for helping us to learn.
i started learning blender 2 years ago when i was 14 and i concider andrew as my teacher i watched his videos and learned so much from him and now i just rewatch them for fun and to see if i missed something also poliigon is great :D
Thank you so much for the tutorials : they are helping me so much. I decided to learn as much as I can about architectural visualization and I need all the help I can get. A couple of months and I will get a Poliigon membership as well. Pls keep delivery high quality tutorials, especially on architectural visualizations and props modeling ! Bless You and your Family !!!

Great looking generator tool mate, looks pretty awesome. Love all these random mini series you're making.
Some how I do feel like there are some missed opportunity or practices for learning having those nodes already done for us. But then again, nodes are where I make the most mistakes so I also kinda appreciate it. Thanks for this great tutorial Andrew!
first series u make that taught me decent amount about sculpting .. thanks man ...
we need more of that
You're my teacher, really your tutorials are amazing. Thanks 😊
I can't believe he records these videos multiple times and the 9/11 one made the cut 😂😂
what was in the other videos 😳😬
😂😂😂

Andrew, sincerely, don't apologise for selling your product, dude.
he's still traumatised by all the crying over the years... it's unreal, people still complain, even when he makes sure to offer a free texture for everyone doing his tutorials. Like I just ctrl+F "sell" and the next result after your post is someone whining about it. Jesus.
It can get a little annoying at times, but I agree. This is how he makes money and is able to give us awesome tutorials like this one. So I don't mind.
My headset broke after a few years and gaffers tape and I have been trying to UA-cam some headsets, holy crap the Americans are more selling this or that than they are recommending.
Andrew really has nothing to apologise about.
@@hyesungjang7681
I dunno man
I like going in the wild(aka IKEA) to get my textures(idc if that’s illegal I see no watermark)
@@longjohn7992 lol goodluck with that
5:05 for those who have issues of having uniform texture scaling... select the object and then go to uv editing workspace and under UV menu select Average Islands Scale option..if the scaling is still a bit distracting then select the Smart UV project before hitting the Average Islands Scale option (under Unwrap option)
I quite like your tutorials, and now I'm a new Poliigon custommer. Keep up the good word.
For those who can't use poliigon addon, just with node wrangler add-on enable, select Principled shader and press Ctrl+Shift+T and select all of your textures. Blender will set-up the texture maps for you.
Daaaaaang. Thats neat. How does it know which does what?
@@AltimaNEO I don't know but I think it apply the textures according to their names.
Wow that is amazing! Thanks a ton :)
Thanks a lot bro , I was stressing because the polygon add-on wasn't adding the texture and it just appeared pink
now i only need to know how to scale the texture ...
just wanna take this opportunity and say thanks andrew for making these tutorials, its all thanks to you that I got into blender and I hope poligon becomes as big as google one day cuz you deserve it
"just like 911" lmfao bro what. thanks for the tut.
😂😂😂 bro been having some weird corona dreams. love you Andrew.
ceowch hahaha. It is really amazing how automated and technical you have gone with the plugin. I look forward to getting a poliigon subscription when I can start making profits from my 3D work. Thanks Andrew ALL the way from the GC!
genius video... you make learning so enjoyable!
"And I didnt wanted them to shut the whole tutorial down" i love it
Appreciate the massive amount of knowledge so much I am more than happy to purchase the awesome materials!
Blender has very interesting function. That's Blenderkit add on you can enable it in preferences and get high quality textures
thank you so much!!
Hey have they changed the name of this add on, couldn’t find it when I searched for it
I don't even use blender, I just watch to see what random stuff he talks about.
😂
Andrew Price is one of the best youtube tutorial makers. I do have blender but I often watch his tutorials without following along because they’re just fun to watch. (Sometimes they do inspire me to go back and watch again but follow along)
it is so relaxing
@Peter Lobley same
lol
I enjoy very much when watching his tutorials
6:09 Tip: If you insert an "RGB Curves" between the Base Color of both the Image Source and Principles BSDF, manipulate all 3 curves, you can lighten or darken the color of the materials on the fly or even change the base color as you want without loading in a different texture.
If you wanna use the add-ons ( 5:13 ) don't unzip the file first! (learning this saved me a lot of time wondering why add-ons weren't working!)
Sorry I know this is an old comment, but how can I use the free version he shared, have you done it that way or did you use the paid version?
Wow awesome blender guru
Great product placement! I just had to subscribe to Poliigon 😂 (makes me wish that I had these ideas...) The tutorials are super helpful so far, great work.
Great to be back 👍
Love your vids. Please make more.
Started my subscription today on Polligons :)
Lucky man! Congratz!

Hard work is done... I'm watching this, today 9/11 2020....
Finally, Poliigon time :)
+1 Poliigon sub. So good!
I started blender 2 months ago (only hobby stuff), and im at the edge of buying a subscription to poliigon just to make my cubes looks even fancier
For all those who don't want to put textures manually this is for u
1-- click on principle bsdf shader
2--press Ctrl+shift+T there u will see a box browse the textures where u saved it (edit - for some reason if it's not opening then u should press ctrl+shift+t and then click on the principal bsdf shader then u will see tht the dialogue box is shown !! )
3-- select those diffuse , roughness all tht stuff and then click on open.
4--- u will see that all of your textures are appended automatically
Enjoy !!

Blender Guru I DIY the wrinkle and used a brush as it and it worked kinda well.
Loads in the texture and views it
PotatoBook Pro: *I don't feel so good*
You need a macro lens to photograph fabric, also adjust the default sharpness in your cameras picture style settings.
theoretically you could do the creases procedurally
Simple setup that worked for me: MixRGB (multiply) with voronoi in the fac and musgrave in Color 2, pure white in Color 1. Mix a bunch of these together with different scales and it gets the job done
i was actually expecting that
I did it with a highly detailed and distorted wave texture and color ramp to tone it down. I will have to try Gel's way and see if I like it better.
I did it with 2 triangle waves multiplied crisscrossed at 45 degrees with high distortion
If nodevember thought me anything, it would be, theoretically you could do ANYTHING procedurally.
my blender guru ji
If you can't use the Fabric's original high rez, just scale the fabric down 1.5 or lower, it will look sharper and a bit more high rez.
I subscribed to poliigon.... should be worth it
I don’t even use this software but find your vids fascinating nonetheless
To get color same as reference you can use MixRGB node with texture to change the color
Hey Andrew, this looks amazing, thank you! How would I make a "hairy" rough fabric, like Harris Tweed or mohair yarn? I would LOVE something like that in Poliigon or in a tutorial some day. TIA!
Hi Andrew! The Free 1K version link does not work. Can you please fix it. I'm just in the middle of finishing this tutorial :) Thx!
Thank you very much😀😀😀😁
As i heard 9/11 i rushed into the comments to see if anyone reacted to that
same
so did I.
What has this channel turned into!
An poligon Sponsored segment
Someone probably already figured it out, but I managed to achieve a similar look with those creases, using a noise texture instead of the one you provided.
In my opinion you should have made a separate video about the addon.
donut tutorial 7 part, couch tutorial 5+ part.
It takes a lifetime to make movies.
Thank u bro!😉 liked and subscribed u.😉💪👍
@BlenderGuru please we need the mars tutorial for Blender 2.8
I just started out and everything looks different. No one makes better tutorials than you so plis.
Love from India ✨
I've always wondered how fabric was textured
Love your tutorial Mr. Guru :D Yes, during 911, for better or for worse, America did came together to fight a common enemy. I'm a bit surprised to see how a nation which seemed so united during 911 became so divided during this pandemic.
you see this shirt!!! you caught on yet!! lmao! wild!
I think that subsurface scattering also can help fabric look
A little. Downside is HEAPS of noise. But we’ll apply it in the next part.
You can select by seams default in face selection mode
Watching this on 9/11/2020 while you mention 9/11/2001 in the middle of a couch tutorial! who would've thought? lol
That's a fancy couch reference you have there. What a shame you're not getting sponsored by the couch company
Aww.
Thank you for your time, sir! Your donut tutorial was suuuperb, and I've been following-along with this sofa one, but ... this materials thing stumps me. The material converter seems to be replaced by the over Poliigon add-on, and ... well, I'm at a complete loss how to get it working.
I know: this is an old tutorial.
Still, till now: 10/10.
Yeahhhh finally 😉😂
9:08 How do I apply the Make Links Material? I've tried left and right clicking, pressing enter, but nothing seems to work. My other cushions don't get the material.
Edit: Just figured it out. You need to click first all the other objects and at the very end the one that alredy has the material. Then Ctrl L and it works
My mesh became heavily distorted from the cloth brushes, so when I applied the texture, it was warped and not straight like in the tutorial. In order to fix this, I just unwrapped all the finished meshes rather than staying with the grid.
yea same. Mine wasn't "heavily" distorted but things here and there were just not sitting right, and re unwrapping helped
Hi Bro, maybe you problem is the same as mine... I forgot to re-scale the object.. do it and you will solve the problem... Maybe it can help someone as well.. cheers
I downloaded and opened the poliigon addon but i couldn't find how to load the texture file to it. Can anyone help about it?
You dare sell your own product. How greedy!. Just kidding. It's completely up to you. We are just glad that you are making this fantastic tutorials for free.
Finally😍
Have anyone can't install the Addon like me?
Pro tip: you can screenshot the bw map at 13:30 to use it as a low res variant, make sure nothing else is in the image.
2d animation tutorials please i beg u u r the best at what u do
ok so one issue was that i was hoping this would cover how to make the materials on the couch. i do have many poliigon textures, including fabrics (probably the older ones), and they don't seem to have this node set up.
Maybe consider making a tutorial on how to make textures and materials yourself? That would be awesome!
For creating a texture like this you have to use Substance Designer which cost money (Blender Guru tutorials are free). Second thing is that it is not easy, you have to use like 50 nodes in Substance Designer to come up with this texture. If you want to learn Substance Designer there are beginner tutorials on "Substance By Adobe" channel.
@@PixellateYT thank you
poliigon material converter page was down so I have to figure out what each map means and where to connect it and if it needs conversion or not.
ill let you know when I make it.
I'm having an issue the textures on the back pillows... When using the Poliigon add-on, the textures are loading on reversed. The smooth non-weave side of the texture appears on the front side of the pillow. Any ideas?
if you want to image a fabric, use a sample rag and a flatbed scanner. you'll have a much better result compared to using a camera. all i'm saying it is worth a try
Hey! I'm a textile design student and find your upholstery generator very interesting. I wanted to ask if I have to have a continuous subscription to poliigon to use the file or is it a one time download?
ps: new to blender. Thanks to your tutorials, quarantine is productive!
It’s a one time download, and works independently to blender :)
@@blenderguru sorry, I meant poliigon
Can you please do video on how to make procedural textures.
5:54 If you don't see any nodes in the shader tab, make sure to have a textured object selected
If you're getting an error when you try to enable the Poliigon addon, make sure you enable the "node wrangler" addon first (this is default in Blender). Then enable the Polligon addon and it should work!
Thanks.
