Shiny Paint Is Stressful! - Motor Swap Distruction
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 чер 2024
- Well it's the moment of truth.
Today we install the refreshed small block and 3 speed over drive transmission in our 1955 Chevy Nomad. Sounds easy right? Well the stress of dealing with nice paint really got to me. It seems like every little thing that could of gone wrong.... DID!
At the end of the day we got the motor slide between the rails. Crisis averted.

Watching this, screaming move the hood. You just didn't listen, LOL!
Oh I was screaming lot more stuff than that. Installed 15 engines this month and every time looks like his first time. I know the 15 was an exaggeration. Just so much doing it the hard way. Glad I'm at home sitting in recliner.
It was also causing me stress LoL
I shared a shop with two other guys and I was always stopping them to ‘fix’ their problems or make the situation more safe. As a result I got nothing done! 😂
Yep. Just KNEW that hoist was gonna hit the hood! Wow.
Seriously I was like the damn hood is like in my way 😂
Dan! I have planted many motors in my lifetime but watching you over the past few weeks makes me gring. What is your hard on for leaving that upper radiator hose on? I cannot count how many times it hit the lift. I am glad you saved the old school 327 verses a LS5 mod. No FI either. Keep it old school including dual points! Don't ruin her with new world crap! Keep the last of the old school builds alive.
I Agree
Pulling the engine was definitely the right decision, it looks great! Talk about a night and day difference!
Yeah im happy with it
I KNOW I've said this maybe 20 different times, and well heh....I feel Mur's pain....! So here, ONE MORE TIME, set the front tires on the ground or just low enough that the cherry picker legs don't hit anything. Now jack the rear end UP as high as you can get it and throw it up on stands.... and WOW how EASY it is to stuff in a engine/trans combo over a core support and NO crazy angles!!! With the rear UP you can still crawl under and set the trans x-member. Been doing this for YEARS on Fords and Mopars as those core supports don't come out!
And I thought I was the only one. I've gotten some strange looks and a few snide comments but it works like a charm
@@gregorybarth930 gotta work smarter, not harder... the body doesn't handle the abuse it use to!
Love it! I will definitely add this method to my repertoire!
For sure. I do it on mopars that way also and don't even have to take trans crossmember out. Slides right through that deal
You mentioned in an earlier video about new bushings for the tree shifter. Don't forget
You make it ten times harder. That makes it fifty times harder to watch. Thanks.
Nice video , it’s always Kinda a Beach Dan , But in your case and mine , it’s a Labor of Love !
Excited for you both on your adventures in moving to a new place 👍🙏
It's OK dan you are having your first senior moment 😊
When you were rolling that jack 100 miles through the shop it reminded me of that scene in the movie sling blade when that guy was dragging that chair across the floor getting on Carl's nerves .
Haha
Loving that nomad. It's going to be a really nice ride.
What a beautiful nova in the background!
Yeah its pretty nice
Water pump install trick: cut heads off two long bolts or use all thread in top holes. Put gaskets on, slip pump on, put lower bolts in. Figure the rest out yerself.🙄
Same here for any multiple bolt applications
Love it
Just rub some vice grip clearcoat on the master. That should keep it from rusting. Nomad is looking great Dan!
YAYYYY Motor in yes.... Cant wait to see it all done and driving Brother looking really good in there all dolled up
Sure would help to have an adjustable motor lift plate with the crank handle for all the install and removal you do. Great job nonetheless.
I'm not pissed off, but can we get tee shirts to Australia yet.😂 Thanks for the video, Dan and Dani. The nomad is looking great 👍 🇦🇺
Take your time make it sweet. It's the one you want to keep.😊
Hey Dan... Get you some blocks for under the tires and free up your space underneath!😉
Hey Dan&Dannie
A lot of deep breaths and you have success, nice work Dan; thank you for getting it all recorded Dannie.
Take care of Yourselves 😊
327 installed with surgical precision, the DD Speed Shop way. Engine looks great. Cheers!! 😎
Looks like a 283 to me the pulley on a 327 a little thicker
@@newtonfirefly3584 yup I can bud I have a couple 327 and 283 and 10 350 and a 388 stroker and a383 stroker and a couple 400
Great show keep up the amazing work be safe my friends God bless all work of art bye Dan go rolling and driving again
The car is not fighting you, it's called mechanical foreplay😁
Haha
A sweet 55 Nomad ....look how much God loves you Dan .
Your blessed. That car is amazing. ✝️🎯
Amen.
Didn't realise God bought it for him...
@@daveparnell4044 😂😂😂
Pray God's continued blessings on you all, Dani and Dan !!!! Eddy
@@daveparnell4044 - Hot Rod Jesus owns a 55 Nomad... The Lord works in mysterious ways bro!
This Nomad is at a whole new level for Doin Donuts Speed Shop!
Nomads have always been my favorites
A little bit of sun shine pops out and it's motor swap mania!!! you are a wild man Dan.
Dan you need one of those Gunk hand cleaning stations on a wall maybe outside to get all the grime off before you enter the house ! My Mom would make me clean up at the hose outside and strip down to my underwear on the porch before i went in the house when i had been down at my buddies working on his Hobby Stock race car !!
Thanks for sharing the struggle. This is how it goes sometimes. Press on regardless. ❤️😎
Kinda surprised you didn't take that motor to John to dyno it before you put it back in
The hardest working couple on the interwebs!
Perfect hood placement,to fill the comment section 😆😅😂
Love the Nomad I’m a old man and have always wanted a Nomad
Good afternoon from Cape Cod ⚓ I guess I was worried about the hood for nothing 😂 before you know it you'll be taking her for a test run. Things are looking good Dan. Keep up the great work guys And the awesome content 👍✌️🇺🇲
Dan...be sure to leave that hood right there..
I was noticing that too!
I like to live dangerously
Not to sound like a know it all, but it's 4 bolts for the transmission...:/
There usually 6 bolts
@@wayneisbell7749 4 bolts trans to BH, 6 bolts BH to block, integral BH/trans 6 bolts to block. Some Chevy V8's had a 7th at the peak.
Lays down on the dirty floor right beside his creeper 😂
Hey just slow and steady wins the race and
Danielle Is a Great help you should appreciate her she can put camera on tr tripod and help ya if you let her more 🎉
I love the way she supports you when your starting to get down on yourself! You're doing well listen to the very bright young lady. It looks great
Awesome job on putting the engine/transmission in the 55 Nomad. Keep up the great work.
I forgot to invite you to the "Buggies and Blues" car show weekend that is going on this weekend. Maybe next year you could come. It is in Mandan ND and just a short drive for you. Lots going on for a few days. Love the videos.
Dan some days you're the Bug some days you're Windshield ! You need a vacation!
Just gotta say...it warms my heart to see Dani reading a book instead of a screen! Not a lot of people do that anymore which is kind of sad. When I was a kid my favorite hangout was the little local library which was in a late 1700s era schoolhouse. Reading is FUNdamental!
Love you guys...stay safe and God bless
And btw, right there with you on shiny things...back in the day bought Rossi ST650 skis, which were very pricey. Babied them at first because I didn't want to scratch them. Much more fun after I decided wtf and went all banzaii!!!
Yeah she's an ooooollllddd soul haha
Hello Dan and Dani. Talking about the flathead screwdriver. On the show: The lone ranger ". He tells Tonto. YOU no understand English and me no' speak Flathead... ! 😆
It really IS looking very good!
This is starting out putting me at the same level as watching Bad Chad. ☺
I'll take that as a compliment
You know, 2x4’s cross stacked and screwed together makes a really nice stand to put undet front wheels. 4 or 5 layers is plenty to lift/install engine.
Still a good car👍 keep at it!
Looks awesome Dan
Thanks dude!
Thanks team,another great vid,
Bad news, Dan. David newbern found that intake months ago.
....
I love the sound of that jack. Please don't fix it. Squeak squeak squeak.
Looking good y'all
3 - 2 bbl carbs and manifold .would be sweet! Thanks for your great videos.
Lovely. Just Lovely.
The struggle is real 😊
I recently watched one of your other videos where you appeared to be hunting through your toolbox for something. I didn't pay much attention at the time but now after watching this video I remembered hey wait a minute Dan never puts his tools in a toolbox he just tosses them on the floor. And then I realized you were just putting us on with phony searching through the toolbox bit. Good one Dan you're the man. BTW good to see you use the jack stand in the way of the hoist routine again. Stay with what works man. That nomad is gonna be sweet when you're finished. Thanks for all the great videos buddy and hats off to Danni you couldn't ask for a better assistant.
Great to see ya'll.
The bay looks good The engine looks good The car looks good and you two will look good in it and if you decide to sell it your bank account will look good too.
That's why you need more than 1 Floor Jack n I have 6 😂😂
I have 3 but I'll catch up in time...can't imagine the scethcy stuff I'd do with more
That seat belt hanging out the bottom of the nova door is soo dd speed shop. You’re doin great guys. Keep it up!
Gotta love the Nomad.
My dad had a 55 Pontiac Safari, and he ended up selling it because he didn't have a place to store it properly after his divorce.
Oh, I almost forgot to add the reason for commenting.
Make sure you put the throw out, bering in the right direction. Hahaha
Just thinking about one of your videos.
Move The Hood
That engine looks really good Dan! Don't feel bad, today I had to change the knock sensors on my 4.8 GMC. Much fun!
Always good stuff
Use a ratchet strap under the back of the transmission like Derek from Vice Grip Garage.
Sometimes the easy jobs aren't that easy . Great video .
You really need to invest in some ramps to put under the tires..... it would give you the clearance for the engine hoist instead of hitting jack stands. Keep up the good work Dan the beast!
An overhead winch in you new shop would make things much easier, engine hoyst are good and have there place but over head gets it out of your way. Thanks for leaving this one as stock as possible it a cool survivor.
Dan sure does like that floor jack 😊
Dan, get rid of that down draft pipe and run a pcv valve. You can plug the hole with a freeze plug. If you don’t want to put a hole in the valve covers, you can run the pcv valve into the oil fill pipe. Just make sure you get correct direction pcv valve.
Hey didn't I say put a big block and 4 speed? Yeah it looks really good under the hood.lots of work.well worth your time.great job Dan.
I’ve had good luck putting engines in by raising the back of the car up making it requiring less engine tilt. While I’ve admitted never done a tri five it worked on mgb
Yes Sir!!!
Man i wish it was that easy to replace a water pump ilke that in a modern car 😮 and great job on the engine install Dan 👏
Another Lovely installation.
Looking good !
Looks beautiful Dan.
Stressing me with that hood right there ... Dang dan
Last few vids you've been sounding beat up and worn out Dan, hope you get some much needed rest and head in to the summer on the right foot!
When I was a kid, my next door neighbor had a “gasser” ‘55 Nomad, when helping take engine out/in he would jack the rear of the car really high on jack stands. It really seemed to help on engine angle going in. But keep in mind it was a semi- race car with fender well headers…scratches did not count.
Looks good Dan, As many engines as you install you would think you would get a adjustable mount so you can change the angle. Would make things easier for you.
Thanks for sharing this video with us
It's looking good.
nice work Dans now if you would get a load leveler for the cheery picker you would NEVER again lift anything without using it without a doubt they are the best compliment to a cheery picker stay safe have fun
Thanks for the video you two.
Great Nomad. Awesome video!
Looking cool 😎
Now this is entertaining! The good stuff, love it. Thank you!
Hi Dan .. throw the electric fan away .. and put the stock fan on .. and put the radiator where it should be .. this will work great and less to worry about ..I have done this for 40plus years …
Key is to hook it to where you want it at the end and use a ratchet strap to get the engine tilted to go in, release strap and drop in.
Looks real good for u dan
Just a Suggestion slow down brother. We are gonna be here . But seriously mad props 👏 your a danm hard working UA-camr
Nice job Danny and Dan.
Sometimes you need a break the Camaros have stressed you but your over the hump
Good job
I just can't stop looking at the hood while you were stabbing that motor/ trans during that install.
Dan here Thigh Master Speed Shop 😂
DDs Speedshop doing the rite thing the wrong way again lol
FYI TRY FABRICATING A BLOCK W/ a large bolt in center same size as center pin on jack pad for locating , that would keep jack from falling off trans or whatever you're supporting!
Looking good Dan. I know you probably already have it done but if not I just spray my new master cylinder with clear coat then they don't flash rust.
