I am a 62-year-old male. My mother taught my father and he created a carriage blanket for me just before I was born. It is I think a seed stitch made in a pale mint green baby wool. I still have that little blanket! It is kind of precious to me. My father had very large hands and worked as a sheet metal fabricator. I think he thought of knitting as fabricating just in much softer raw material. My mother taught me too when she was in her eighties. I learned in order to create my Grandaughter a stuffed dog. I made a Snauzer, my favorite dog only to learn that she likes Pugs! I am here for a refresher course in order to make her a Pug which I have found a pattern for from RAVELRY. Thank you from Northern Ontario Canada.
Hi Kristen! I'm Constance, 15, and I recently (this June) started learning knitting through your channel! I have made a lot of bunnies so far and also the i-cord bracelet. My friends all call me a grandma :0 In October, I'll holding a few workshops in my school on the basics of knitting and teach my schoolmates how to knit. May I have some advice on how I should carry it out? I have already subscribed to your mailing list, and plan to learn how to teach through this knitting series. Thank you for your wonderful videos! I have learnt a lot and this is a very enjoyable hobby! I'm really excited to see the rest of the videos!!
Haha, love this, "Gramma" Constance. That is so exciting! I'm happy my series will be helpful to you in teaching your schoolmates how to knit. Just plan it out in a way that makes sense to you. Maybe create your own Knitting Planner so they understand what will be covered and feel accomplished each time they learn something in your plan. Let me know how it goes!
I am a middle schooler and a knit a lot. My friends make fun of me and also call me grandma. I love to knit and I am buried under project after project. I can't wait for the series to unfold more!
I have a complete collection of Boye's straight and interchangeable circular knitting needles. I love how the colors are coordinated by size (though they do change time to time) so I can always not be lost in where the other needle went to. I recently purchased a set of bamboo DPNs. Love how the bamboo feels in my hands, but they are not as cool to the touch as aluminum is. Another good reason for why big needles are a plus: Hand Ergonomics. The bigger needle fits more fully in the hand so it helps with understanding the proper hold technique as you also learn/adapt to your own style of throwing the yarn around the needle. Think of it as when you were younger and learning how to write/color in Kindergarten/Pre-K. Most teachers have the "jumbo" size of crayons and pencils on their lists at that time because you are learning how to use them. I come from a family of teachers, so of course I would equate knitting needle size to school. But I'm also working on teaching my mom, cousin, and friend to knit so this does come in handy.
I LOVE the colourful needles! Wish I could buy them. I know you've seen me commenting on a bunch of your vids. I just like communicating with fellow knitters as no one else I know has much knitting experience. I learned the knit stitch from my cousin and making a scarf, but that's all she knows about knitting. She doesn't know other stitch patterns or even how to weave in ends. Because of that, combined with my love for knitting, I outdid her really fast.
I love bamboo needles too! They're lightweight and feel good, I like their humble appearance as well, forget about the little drag, which isn't really a big deal to me. I've got really cheap bamboo needles though, not the expensive ones which I can't afford, but with just a little care and appreciation, I find them really good to use. I love your videos, they're all very positive and no condemning of any type of needles or stitches, you review them all equally with joy, I love that. Keep up the good work!
This is interesting, thank you! What if I want to use a thinner yarn, but I want the knots a bit bigger, I want the final product to look a bit ... "lacey", not sure how to describe it, I am looking for a chainmaille effect in the end. Would you recommend thicker needles with finer yarn? Thank you!
You are so cute, sweet, enthusiastic, and very , very nice! Knitting is my favorite delight, and I am learning quite a lot from you and others! Thank you for all these informative videos in our world of knitting!
Thanks for the helpful information. So for clarity, larger needles for thicker yarn? My friend said she’s changes her needles depending on the pattern which has confused me 😂
Hello what US size is a 7mm needle? I can't seem to find a conversion for it to US...it doesn't seem to fit in any of my needle gauges Thank you..Enjoy your videos it's always nice to review the beginning
I’m trying to learn how to knit with 6/7us size knitting needles. I’m trying with size 3 yarn (i think that’s what it is, it uses size 6) it’s a little annoying. I also hate aluminum needles, cause they bend. It is just so f-&king annoying
I'm answering your comment in today's new Q&A video. Thanks so much for being part of the Absolute Beginner Knitting Series! 💗 ua-cam.com/video/2Tv8JCt8wYk/v-deo.html

So special! My parents both learned through my course, too! Love it.
I also prefer the bamboo needles. For me, they keep your yarn on the needles better for more control. ❤
Hi, Jackie! That's my experience, too.
