    Oh, quick update - There is also a Size #7 Jumbo Standard Yarn Weight, best for Knitting Needles Size 17 US (12.75 mm) and above. It's fairly new, so it wasn't on my chart!

    I started knitting in January, teaching myself from videos and a couple of books, but I'm sure I missed a few things along the way. This course is filling in some gaps, reinforcing stuff I figured out, and a lot of fun!
    One thing I wished I'd known when I bought my first supplies? Choose a solid color yarn! It may seem boring (pick one you like) but it's sooooo much easier to see and understand what you're doing.

    • @studioknit
      @studioknit  7 років тому +1

      So great to hear, Deni. YES, I hear you! The solids may not catch your eye in the yarn aisle, but they'll definitely be easier on them while you're knitting.

    I have been knitting since I was 10 and no one has ever really explained how different weight, fibers and pairing with size of knitting needles work. I have just gone by eyeballing it. How think yarn is to how big of needle. Now noticing diagrams with numbers on balls of yarn makes sense. Thanks for sharing!

    • @studioknit

      So happy my video helps. Wow, you must be good at eyeballing sizes, Melissa.

    Great video but I feel Iike I haven’t found a video here on youtube explaining which yarns are suitable for which project? I know the size and weight I want my yarn to be but which is more itchy, which is stretchier, which will hold it’s shape best, which is warmer, are there any popular blends to use for clothing, which will hold up best over time?

      Completely agree, I couldn’t find one either and these are the questions we need answers to!

    I am glad you mentioned this i needed to understand more about yarn weight. I use synthetic because i can't touch any kind of wool.

    • @studioknit
      @studioknit  7 років тому +1

      Ah, yes, there are definitely personal reasons we choose certain yarns. Another great benefit to synthetic.

    I thought I was too cool for school and ordered multi-color, fuzzy yarn - NOT what Kristen recommended. The swatch I knitted had multiple glitches and extra stitches from row-to-row.
    Heed the Studio Knit, folks. Kristen knows what she’s talking about.

    For gamer people who are knitters as well. If you have a WiiU or a Nintendo 3DS, get Yoshi's Wooly World. It's an easy game and everything is so cute because the majority of everything is made out of yarn. I'm still working on figuring out how to make a yarn Yoshi.

    I started with weight 3 yarn and I had to start over. I know how to do a regular knit stitch. I just conquered purl! I am ordering different needles and I will try size 4 yarn this time! Also don't know if I want to do top down or bottom up????😱

    I am a newbie knitter. I just went shopping and bought whatever I thought looked pretty 😅 Will it be impossible to use a 8 mm needle set with #4 yarn, or a 6.5 crochet hook with #6 yarn? (I know this is not a crochet video but usually experts are knowledgeable in both.)

    HI Kirsten, Opal from Toronto, Canada. LOOOOOOOVE this new series. Surely will help. What about yarn that is in bag from manufacturers that doesn't have any information of the kind of yarn, or knitting needle sizes? How do we determine projects as well without this vital information.
