2700 major league hits and a batting title !?? We're talking borderline Cooperstown worthy here. Buckner could flatout rake. A tremendous contact hitter. That's how I remember him.

I didn't know a firstbase line view of that play existed. It's like watching a never before footage of the Kennedy assassination.

The view from behind Buckner? I think it was the first replay NBC showed of it after it happened.

the irony is the red sox beat the angels to get to the world series and the pitcher who threw the homerun ball was so distraught he killed himself

It was the greatest postseason in baseball history. Mets-Astros was an epic. Didn’t go the full seven games but there was amazing drama packed into them and that Game Six in particular was one of 20 best games in MLB history.
Red Sox-Angels was also a classic. Sox we’re down and out before a two out bottom of the ninth Dave Henderson homer (down 3-to-1 in the series) gave them an extra inning win…followed by two blowout wins in Boston.
Then the World Series speaks for itself…

No serious baseball fan can possibly watch that series and think that Bill Buckner is to blame for the Sox' loss. If you want to blame someone, blame John McNamara or even Calvin Schiraldi.

True but all he needed to do was boot the ball, kick it to the side, get a piece of it, etc. the only way Knight was going to score from second base there was if Buckler allowed that dribbler untouched through his legs. It’s an epic blunder…a ball a child could’ve gloved.

or the wild pitch that allowed KEvin Mitchell to score the tying run in game 6

As the late great Gary Carter said " for people to say it's the biggest blunder ever is ridiculous. That wasn't the series b/c their was still a game 7" plus it was tied blame goes to so many. McNamara for taking out clemens or clemens asking out for a blister shiraldi who gave up 3 straight singles Stanley's wild pitch that tied it. Also the sox had chances to make the final out like boggs letting Ray knights grounder go foul when he could have gotten the slow footed knight out or knight having a huge lead off 2nd base Stanley could have picked him off when it was tied. Buckner had too many things against him like being far from first as knight was taking that big lead off second or him knowing he had the lightning fast Wilson running towards first. Seems he looked up to see if Stanley was making it to 1st & u can see he took his eyes off the ball to look over & that contributed to the ball going through his legs. Plus as Carter & everyone knows they still had a game 7. U would think the way Buckner was terrorized by new England fans for decades it was game 7 & not all the mistakes made before it got to that play. Shiraldi giving up those 3 runs to me he's the biggest heel. He should have been pulled after the 2nd single by Mitchell. I mean having him even pitch to Carter wasa mistake given Carter was his catcher the year b4. Also Mitchell in the minor leagues was told by shiraldi what he would pitch to him a slider away which Mitchell was expecting & knocked it into the outfield.

@@kyrules2001 Doubtful, there were two outs. The runners move on contact. If Buckner throws to Stanley, he’s moving away from home plate. Knight would’ve kept on running.

On October 6, 1986, Buckner was interviewed by WBZ-TV's Don Shane about the pressures of postseason play. In a quote that later appeared in ESPN's Steve Bartman documentary Catching Hell, Buckner eerily explains his worst case scenario:
"The dreams are that you're gonna have a great series and win. The nightmares are that you're gonna let the winning run score on a ground ball through your legs. Those things happen, you know. I think a lot of it is just fate."
