In the span of a week, 3 more glitches were found 7 years after the game was released. The first and arguably the easiest is the Sherbet Land glitch. When you start the race, go to the left and wall clip with the finishing pole. If you get a big enough wall clip, you will land behind the finishing line. After you do this, turn round and drive backwards a couple seconds until Lakitu comes and tells you to turn round. Then, drive back to the finish line and you've completed a lap (if you didn't, you didn't wall clip far enough). The second has not been done by a human yet, but it is possible. It is on DK's Jungle Parkway - go backwards when the race starts and drive backwards into the right wall. With the air you get, wheelie and shroom, wall clipping with a tree. Then, you need to wall-clip with the top of the finishing line (yes, mid-air after the first) and through into the cave. Drive back to the finishing line and the lap counts. The third is complex and is impossible for a human to do, though. Its on Waluigi Stadium. All were found by the same guy, too. +MK

You can imagine how freaked I was when both my brother and I pulled off the first glitch without us knowing it. We both wanted to be Mario, so I chose him, backed off, and suddenly pressed b. He then did the exact same thing, as if taunting me. Suddenly both of us highlighted mario and our eyes widened, wondering what the hell we freaking did! We couldn't freaking continue, we just couldn't. We backed off and didn't play the game for the rest of the day.
What I like about your videos is that you actually EXPLAIN why the glitch is happening, unlike other videos. You're really good at these glitches, most of the time it takes me a loooong time to do these glitches, if at all.

There was a strange glitch in DK Summit, when you do a trick off the half pipe with a bike, watch the Mii heads, there heads don't rotate, so it looks weird.
How the keycheckpoints work is a little bit complicated, but i try to explain. When you Start at the startingline you will Trigger the first keycheckpoint but keycheckpoint behind you is also loaded. This only works when you are not leaving the area where the startingline checkpoint is placed. When you make for example the Shortcut at grumble volcano you get on the Rock but you don't leave the startingline checkpoint until you reach the last keycheckpoint. This keycheckpoint is loaded because you don't left the area. That's the reason why the game thinks that you drove a lap and the lap gets counted. Sry if there are some mistakes my english is not the best. Edit: If you want a netter Explain watch the video the history of the ultra Shortcuts.
At 7:00 when he's explaining how the trick works his guesswork is very intuitive however incorrect. Mario Kart Wii has an interesting property with key checkpoints. For the same reason the Mario Circuit shortcut works with the tree clip, this shortcut works. Key checkpoints have a weird coding bug where if you clip into the last key checkpoint without just driving backwards into it the game thinks you completed the rest of the lap. Whichever key checkpoint you are in at any one point the next key checkpoint in front and key checkpoint behind are both loaded in at any given point. So if you clip into the checkpoint behind you, the game thinks you are just coming from the checkpoint into the next one you drive into. The reason you have to drive backward for the Mario Circuit clip is so you hit that key checkpoint and get the lap count. The reason the Grumble Volcano glitch works is because you are driving into the last key checkpoint and getting the lap count and then you hit the first key checkpoint. The back of the rock is the last key checkpoint and the front of the rock is the first key checkpoint. Thanks for bearing with me on this. But this is why it works. Mario Kart Wii really had some interesting physics. If you want a more detailed explanation I reccomend checking out the video about the Coconut Mall glitch. It gives very extensive explanation on how this works.

11:48 At this point in the mall, I remember once managing to get a huge amount of air on the fountain down below. I can't exactly remember how I did it, but I think as I hit the edge to ramp off of it, I used a mushroom. From this, I got a huge amount of air and landed up past the banners and on to the top where the Miis are standing. Surprisingly, the surface WAS solid, and I managed to drive off of it successfully and continue the race. Still came first, aww yeah. :p
I've done something likkek this, but on the sides of the escallator, I landed on the side from the fountain ramp, and mushroomed at the top of it, my character instantly got launched at such high speeds I landed in the parking lot.... wot.

0:50 I accidentally did this glitch while playing with my sister. We both chose the bike and when we started the 2nd race, my sister's bike wasn't there at all. She was just floating.
at 0:25, there's the mario kart icon on one half and the son of a glitch icon on the other, implying the opposite of what's really there. I find that kind of funny.
when i was young me and my sister wanted to play as the character we unlocked (king boo) and my mums boyfriend performed this glitch and i didnt notice
+1TruePronomon Most likely by accident :D But there are some guys out there who have fun reading the codes and then figuring out glitches this way :P I have found a glitch in Metroid Prime Hunters for example that allowed you to glitch into a wall that was in lava (only usefull as certain character). You can shoot out but it's hard to shoot in. I have found that one only because I was hiding from my friend who got me on low hp^^
Most glitches that are on tracks are done by looking at the checkpoints of the course then trying to get past some of the checkpoints using an emulator
+VanDonien I can imagine clipping glitches and such happening by accident upon discovery. The player just happens to run into a wall or something in just the right way by sheer fluke during normal gameplay. Then, depending on the individual, they either ignore it, or spend hours trying to replicate it until they figure out exactly how it works.
That double character glitch was one of my favourite memories of the glitch. It was one of those things that you'd only hear about from a kid at school and you wouldn't believe them until you tried it. I frequently blew my friends minds when we both wanted to be Yoshi and I was like, let's both be.
7:00 what happens is that the checkpoints you are in, the one in front of it, and the one behind it are loaded. when you go to the back of the rock, it triggers the checkpoint directly behind the finish line. the game then thinks that you have gone all the way around, since you are now right behind the finish line. it then counts the lap
11:16 This has an easier way to pull this off. Just go backwards at the start of the level till you get to the part with the moving chain-linked road, right before this. Shake the wii remote while driving toward this road, and you will always get the glitch. Found this on accident.
bro I remember finding the same character glitch before anyone back in 1st grade, I wish I claimed my find but I didn’t have any social media platforms back then except youtube and i didn’t remember how I did it anyway because me and my friend were just fighting over king boo and we somehow accidentally pulled off the glitch
There's an alternate way to chose the same character at once as well. Both player one and two need to pass by the same character on the player select screen and press A on the exact same frame. It is quite persice as if any of the action is a frame off it will push one of you out. I can confirm this works as I've done it before.
I don’t know if this is rare, but I was playing mario kart ages ago on mario circuit with my sister and we went backwards for a couple of laps and tried to go forwards through laps and the lap counter had stopped working so we got unlimited laps😂😂
6:52 That's not why it works. Basically, the game always keeps the checkpoint ahead of you and behind you loaded, and updates your position whenever you cross a checkpoint, whether forwards or backwards. This means that if you use a glitch to get behind the finish line WITHOUT hitting the finish line checkpoint and updating the position, you can hit the last checkpoint and THEN hit the finish checkpoint and because your checkpoint value increased without decreasing by crossing a checkpoint backwards, the game thinks you've completed a lap. This allows for the same type of exploit to be used on ANY track where you can get around the finish line without crossing the checkpoint, which has been done on most tracks, and even as of recently Rainbow Road!

One thing I'd like to add, tricking off a mushroom and driving into a wall doesn't always give you upward momentum, it depends on the wall's angle (even though I don't think there are any walls suitable for this in Mushroom Gorge...)
Also, your explanaion of the grumble volcano glitch is wrong. It happens because there are three types of checkpoints. 00, which is the starting line checkpoint, 0x (x is a number, so the checkpoints have to be passed in a specific order), which are checkpoints that you need to pass in order to make the lap count, and FF, which are checkpoints that are only used for the places in the race (1st, 2nd, 3rd). Basically, when you start, you're on lap 0. And when you pass the 00 checkpoint of the track, you start lap 1. The 01 checkpoint of the track is a major checkpoint. When you pass it, it activates the other 0x checkpoints. Using the rock glitch, you pass the 00 checkpoint and the last checkpoint (the game has a failsafe for that, so you still have to pass the last checkpoint), but you skip the 01 checkpoint, meaning that all the 0x checkpoints aren't activated, and therefore the game doesn't realize that you're behind the finish line, and when you pass the last checkpoint, the game's like "WTF" and thinks you completed a lap, therefore moving on to lap 2. Now, here's the explanation from wiki.tockdom.com: The start line bug is a bug in Mario Kart Wii caused by a programming oversight. The bug allows a player to skip large sections of the track, if they can get behind the start line without crossing the checkpoint backwards. Background: The bug has to do with the logic for decrementing the player's current lap variable. The current lap variable stores the lap that the racer is on, however it is not the same as the displayed lap. The displayed lap does not decrement if a player crosses the start line backwards, but the current lap does. Therefore, the players start the race with current lap of 0, which increments to 1 as they cross the start line at the beginning of the race. Also important is the concept of mandatory check points. These form the minimum route a player must take round the track. It's okay for a player to leave the check point quadrilaterals for a time (as is the case with the SNES Ghost Valley 2 shortcut), provided that they enter all the mandatory checkpoint quadrilaterals in order on their route round to the lap. All check point quadrilaterals are associated by the game with the previous mandatory check point (unless they are a mandatory check point). When a player enters a mandatory check point quadrilateral, a variable indicating the current mandatory check point ID of a player is updated to reflect this. The game only tests a player's position against the quadrilaterals for check points associated with the current, previous and next mandatory check point. This is to allow tracks to have overlapping check point quadrilaterals, for example because the track crosses itself. The Bug: The bug comes from the behaviour of the current lap variable when moving backwards. If the player moves from the check point quadrilateral after the start line to the one immediately before it, the current lap variable is decremented. The game checks this by detecting if the next quadrilateral after the one the player has entered is the start line quadrilateral. However, if the player can move from the check point quadrilateral after the start line to one earlier than immediately before it, the current lap is not decremented. Because the player still has the current mandatory check point ID variable set to 0 (the start line), the player cannot count a lap by driving forward, as they game checks that the current mandatory check point ID variable is set to the mandatory checkpoint before the start line prior to incrementing the lap count. To count the lap and complete the ultra shortcut, the player must drive backwards to the previous mandatory check point. This then causes the player's current mandatory check point ID to be set to the one before the start line (because they have entered its quadrilateral) still without decrementing the players current lap variable. The player now has current lap set to the one they left the start line at, with current mandatory check point ID set to the one before the start line. The player can then drive forwards to the start line to count a lap.

11:48 At this point in the mall, I remember once managing to get a huge amount of air on the fountain down below. I can't exactly remember how I did it, but I think as I hit the edge to ramp off of it, I used a mushroom. From this, I got a huge amount of air and landed up past the banners and on to the top where the Miis are standing. Surprisingly, the surface WAS solid, and I managed to drive off of it successfully and continue the race. Still came first, aww yeah. :p

I've done something likkek this, but on the sides of the escallator, I landed on the side from the fountain ramp, and mushroomed at the top of it, my character instantly got launched at such high speeds I landed in the parking lot.... wot.

I have found a glitch in Metroid Prime Hunters for example that allowed you to glitch into a wall that was in lava (only usefull as certain character). You can shoot out but it's hard to shoot in. I have found that one only because I was hiding from my friend who got me on low hp^^

Most glitches that are on tracks are done by looking at the checkpoints of the course then trying to get past some of the checkpoints using an emulator
+VanDonien I can imagine clipping glitches and such happening by accident upon discovery. The player just happens to run into a wall or something in just the right way by sheer fluke during normal gameplay. Then, depending on the individual, they either ignore it, or spend hours trying to replicate it until they figure out exactly how it works.

That double character glitch was one of my favourite memories of the glitch. It was one of those things that you'd only hear about from a kid at school and you wouldn't believe them until you tried it. I frequently blew my friends minds when we both wanted to be Yoshi and I was like, let's both be.

7:00 what happens is that the checkpoints you are in, the one in front of it, and the one behind it are loaded. when you go to the back of the rock, it triggers the checkpoint directly behind the finish line. the game then thinks that you have gone all the way around, since you are now right behind the finish line. it then counts the lap

This has an easier way to pull this off.
Just go backwards at the start of the level till you get to the part with the moving chain-linked road, right before this. Shake the wii remote while driving toward this road, and you will always get the glitch. Found this on accident.

There's an alternate way to chose the same character at once as well. Both player one and two need to pass by the same character on the player select screen and press A on the exact same frame. It is quite persice as if any of the action is a frame off it will push one of you out. I can confirm this works as I've done it before.

Basically, the game always keeps the checkpoint ahead of you and behind you loaded, and updates your position whenever you cross a checkpoint, whether forwards or backwards. This means that if you use a glitch to get behind the finish line WITHOUT hitting the finish line checkpoint and updating the position, you can hit the last checkpoint and THEN hit the finish checkpoint and because your checkpoint value increased without decreasing by crossing a checkpoint backwards, the game thinks you've completed a lap. This allows for the same type of exploit to be used on ANY track where you can get around the finish line without crossing the checkpoint, which has been done on most tracks, and even as of recently Rainbow Road!
It may be similar to how the SNES Mario Kart lap system worked...🤔

One thing I'd like to add, tricking off a mushroom and driving into a wall doesn't always give you upward momentum, it depends on the wall's angle (even though I don't think there are any walls suitable for this in Mushroom Gorge...)

Also, your explanaion of the grumble volcano glitch is wrong. It happens because there are three types of checkpoints. 00, which is the starting line checkpoint, 0x (x is a number, so the checkpoints have to be passed in a specific order), which are checkpoints that you need to pass in order to make the lap count, and FF, which are checkpoints that are only used for the places in the race (1st, 2nd, 3rd). Basically, when you start, you're on lap 0. And when you pass the 00 checkpoint of the track, you start lap 1. The 01 checkpoint of the track is a major checkpoint. When you pass it, it activates the other 0x checkpoints. Using the rock glitch, you pass the 00 checkpoint and the last checkpoint (the game has a failsafe for that, so you still have to pass the last checkpoint), but you skip the 01 checkpoint, meaning that all the 0x checkpoints aren't activated, and therefore the game doesn't realize that you're behind the finish line, and when you pass the last checkpoint, the game's like "WTF" and thinks you completed a lap, therefore moving on to lap 2.
Now, here's the explanation from wiki.tockdom.com:
The start line bug is a bug in Mario Kart Wii caused by a programming oversight. The bug allows a player to skip large sections of the track, if they can get behind the start line without crossing the checkpoint backwards.
Background:
The bug has to do with the logic for decrementing the player's current lap variable. The current lap variable stores the lap that the racer is on, however it is not the same as the displayed lap. The displayed lap does not decrement if a player crosses the start line backwards, but the current lap does. Therefore, the players start the race with current lap of 0, which increments to 1 as they cross the start line at the beginning of the race.
Also important is the concept of mandatory check points. These form the minimum route a player must take round the track. It's okay for a player to leave the check point quadrilaterals for a time (as is the case with the SNES Ghost Valley 2 shortcut), provided that they enter all the mandatory checkpoint quadrilaterals in order on their route round to the lap. All check point quadrilaterals are associated by the game with the previous mandatory check point (unless they are a mandatory check point). When a player enters a mandatory check point quadrilateral, a variable indicating the current mandatory check point ID of a player is updated to reflect this. The game only tests a player's position against the quadrilaterals for check points associated with the current, previous and next mandatory check point. This is to allow tracks to have overlapping check point quadrilaterals, for example because the track crosses itself.
The Bug:
The bug comes from the behaviour of the current lap variable when moving backwards. If the player moves from the check point quadrilateral after the start line to the one immediately before it, the current lap variable is decremented. The game checks this by detecting if the next quadrilateral after the one the player has entered is the start line quadrilateral. However, if the player can move from the check point quadrilateral after the start line to one earlier than immediately before it, the current lap is not decremented. Because the player still has the current mandatory check point ID variable set to 0 (the start line), the player cannot count a lap by driving forward, as they game checks that the current mandatory check point ID variable is set to the mandatory checkpoint before the start line prior to incrementing the lap count. To count the lap and complete the ultra shortcut, the player must drive backwards to the previous mandatory check point. This then causes the player's current mandatory check point ID to be set to the one before the start line (because they have entered its quadrilateral) still without decrementing the players current lap variable. The player now has current lap set to the one they left the start line at, with current mandatory check point ID set to the one before the start line. The player can then drive forwards to the start line to count a lap.
