Your videos on this little gem and the just plain fun of watching them, is the reason I searched EVERY nook and a cranny of the internet over T’giving weekend to obtain one. I’ve had 2 other Explorers, but they were just too ‘much’ for what I needed them for and sold the entire kit they came with to friends at what I knew they could comfortably afford. THOSE folks have been jamming and having fun with them, which makes me really happy. Between my hubby and I, he found that HSN had a killer deal this weekend so I guess I truly WAS supposed to get it! I just ordered mine yesterday! I ordered directly from Cricut and since I am an Access member, I was able to get 10% off so that was helpful. So excited to make stickers. Now I am probably going to try and sell my old Joy to help pay for it, LOL!
Can you figure out what kinds of things you're most likely to do ? Most of Bethany's are fairly small so the Xtra would be enough, said the woman who still has an Expression and a bunch of cartidges collecting dust, a Maker that has been stuffed in its carry bag since a year ago July after totally messing up a t-shirt. Then decided that a Joy would be better due to space constraints in an RV. So, recently having gotten together a great collection of materials for the Joy, now have the Xtra but only have the Smart Vinyl to pay with since I have yet to find any mats or any more Smart Vinyl.😢
Very informative Bethany style video!! I think the Xtra was quite a smart move on Cricut's part. The Joy is cute but the immediate comments when it came out showed users wanted print and cut. The Xtra like the Silhouette Portrait is a great all round machine. As a crafter who also sells I have 6 machines from the teensy to the exaggerated but I've seen that 80% of my work I can do on the Portrait as print and cut is a big part of my paper crafting. It's a bit like the Sizzix machines.. The very small machines are great to keep on your desk for very small dies.. So the Joy will find its niche(if they reduce the price) , but I think the Xtra will be Xtremely(pun intended) popular.
I love the new machine! I have the joy and maker, so I certainly don't need it...but, I am pretty sure that I will have to have it anyway. Thanks for sharing the unboxing and features! I really enjoy watching you craft on the cricut and I am patiently awaiting some more of your embroidery videos. I bought the Baby lock Alliance after seeing your first videos and now I'm addicted to embroidery also. Interesting. I got the joy and have no other cricut, and struggle with moving from the smart vinyl backing sheet to the transfer sheet, so I'm actually glad to hear that this is not just a me thing.

I don’t have a Cricut but I think this size and price point might be the one. I love watching your videos, you are very good at explaining and demonstrating. I always love your projects! I would love to see stickers next! And I’d also love to see you do a print then cut project with this machine! The smaller Joy doesn’t have that feature so that’s why that wasn’t an option.

I just knew your next craftroom tool video would be the JoyXtra after hearing they had released it last week! I understand that you would want the extra little space for your projects, and maybe when I use my original Joy in a greater capacity I will want one also...just not right now for me :) That being said, I still am interested in how the whole sticker process works, so I'd love to see you do a video on that. I am loving the idea of the Cricut Joy xtra. I am excited about the fact that it can Print then cut. I am pretty sure it has already found it's way onto my wishlist but I feel like I really should start crafting more with my Cricut Joy more before I add any more machines to my craft room. I have seen one other video on the Joy Xtra and I am pretty sure that little pokey tool is a mini weeding tool which is pretty cool that they include it but odd that they don't seem to mention anything about it in the little manual. I would like to see stickers for the next video as that is what has me interested in adding the Joy Xtra to my craft room. This is definitely a machine for me. I rarely get my Maker out, I always use my Joy machine. I have really been interested in making stickers so I will wait for a nice bundle and buy this one for sure!
I wish this was released last year. I bought the Joy and found it wasn’t large enough so I went all out and have the Maker 3. I still haven’t mastered either one and tying to figure out the cut settings is frustrating. I just keep watching you and hope how easy you make it look will rub off 😂 I’ll be happy for stickers or cards!!
Oh please don't get frustrated, you can do this! Watch my Maker tutorials and Joy tutorials and I know you can do it! I have playlists for both machines!!

Darn, I just bought the Joy about 6 months ago. For my art & vintage biz, I'd love to be able to design custom stickers on my inkjet printer and then have the machine to cut them out...like the Joy Xtra does . I may sell my Joy and put that money towards a JoyXtra. I've been watching hacks or work-arounds to be able to print & cut on the Joy. So yes, it can done, but it's kind of a pain and it's still not as good as what it look likes you can do on the Xtra. Thanks for your review!

I know absolutely nothing about this craft. This came up on my feed and as a soon to be retirees, this looks interesting. Can you create your own custom design or must you use what is on the design space?
You can buy a punch to make the hole to hang your mats. That’s what I did for my silhouette cutting mats because they do not have the hole to hang them as well.

It is definitely not just you, the Smart Vinyl is really difficult to work with and I tend to opt for other vinyl instead!
I also have the same issue, thought it was a skill issue but it appears not. I’ll look into some other vinyls!

I know it must be so hard monitoring all the comments and questions but if you happen to have a video that goes over how you organize your design space and downloads you purchase could you link it please. Mine feels so disorganized. I know you link fonts in your videos as well but if you could ever do just a design space and list of your favourite fonts I would love that!!

Weeded tool/ picket
You can buy a punch to make the hole to hang your mats. That’s what I did for my silhouette cutting mats because they do not have the hole to hang them as well.

Cuts bigger dimensions and does print then cut, so much different. :)
Card mat
It is very tough to get the smart vinyl to stick to the transfer tape. I always have such a big problem with that.

I think the Joy Xtra, because it is still small and compact but can do much more!
