As an Earth scientist educator turned hobbyist photographer, I really enjoy your videos. They all make me think more carefully about what I'm trying to communicate through my images. I'm really drawn to the relationships between foreground and background elements and have been trying to incorporate these more in my photos over the past year. What I like about it as an Earth scientist is the connection between features which are at vastly different scales - a boulder & a mountain, or a mushroom and a waterfall. Getting the relative sizes of those two key items in the image is, as you say, a major factor in choosing length of the lens.
UA-cam should come with a better way to like videos. To simply like is not enough. I like a lot of videos in UA-cam, but they do not compare to the quality you provide. You deserve way more recognition than a single like can express. If it was from 0 to 10 I would give you an 11.
Hello Adam. WOW!! What an amazing video. I also grew up under the dark cloth of a 4x5 - and my mentor was also David Muench! I spent hours pouring over Arizona Highways magazines. Then about 10 years ago I had the honor of spending g a week with him at a workshop in Death Valley. What an experience. I see that same emotion and power that David portrays in your work. Nothing wrong in being old school. Your the ones leading the way for the rest of of. Keep up the wonderful work.
I couldn't agree more with your comment about certain techniques being more digital art than photography. I think that's what I appreciate most about your photos and style in general, it's a very honest and integrity-laden portrayal of the scenes. I've long believed that's what photography should be, and it's how I've approached my own photos. Love the solid content of your videos.
This series had been amazing. Really made me reflect on my own compositions and think harder about what I can do to improve. Thank you Adam for making these. They’re an invaluable resource!
Great video as always Adam. I’ve been doing landscapes since the 80’s. Born in 1964 I’m old school too , preferring to get it right in camera. Focus stacking isn’t for me. Your videos have a meditative quality which is great as I mainly watch them just before bedtime and I find them so relaxing. I leave Gavins videos until the daytime as I laugh so much at you both, my ribs hurt. . Let’s hope I get to Vancouver Island this summer so I can follow in your footsteps.
Sunday morning here in Australia and it's fantastic to have a coffee and enjoy another excellent video tutorial from the masterful Adam Gibbs! Thank you.
Excellent video, Adam. Best way to learn composition is to see and hear the reasoning behind the composition chosen, and whether or not it works. Being thoughtful and deliberate, using the available light to help direct your choices - excellent advice. Partly why I have switched to 4x5 film again. It forces one to be deliberate, think about what in the scene strikes the photographer, and then use ones skills to capture it. Excellent advice.
Adam, I really appreciate your mastery of the intricacies and nuances of photography, but I have to say your greatest ability is that you can explain it to others in an easily understood way. Thank you.
Thank you for yet another master class! You should publish a book based on just this subject and the images and points you made in this vlog. I'm sure there'll be thousands who will buy it! I'll reserve one right now :)
As I was watching your video, all I could think was what amazing photos you have taken! I enjoy your videos so much and learn from them as well. Thanks for sharing your content.
Thankyou Adam, for sharing these amazing compositions and explanations of how you saw and captured each one, and why. I love your photography, it is inspiriational.
Well done, Adam. Very helpful to me, as in, I need to slow down and think about the foreground/background relationship and choose the focal length to get what I think will work well. I tend to look but not see. I'm too literal (engineer) and constrained most of the time. Your videos help.
Mr Gibbs Their explanations are excellent. I really am a hobbyist and I am impressed by the quality of the images presented and the tips given to us. You really are to be congratulated and your images are wonderful. However, when will we have new adventures with the nephew.? I have a lot of fun with your jokes and we also learn a lot from it all. Greetings from Brazil
Beyond the wonderful images, this video has a lot to offer in compositional training. These things are so essential yet they take time and a lot of trial and error to master. I have seen so many great examples of this over the years and I'm still working on improving. Thanks for teaching and sharing.
Adam this video was awesome and as a beginner I have learned so much by watching your channel. Thanks for all that you do and I hope to attend one of your workshops soon. Thanks!!
I tend to use wide angle lenses mostly for nightscapes, but the concept of that mushroom shot really intrigued me. Thank you for putting in the time to make these programs.
Another good video in the series Adam. I appreciate the old school comments as I too am old school. I have very little appreciation for too much manipulation and artsy photography. Too my eye it seems to cheapen the image to some degree, and often is easily recognizable....not sure if that makes any sense to you or not. Regardless This Old School, Old Guy likes your channel very much. Have a great day.
What a wonderful series of videos! Thank you so much for making all of your great content.. they are inspirational, informative and simply the best of UA-cam.
In this series of videos you’ve shared an extraordinary body of work. Your compositions are captivating and your comments are enlightening. Thank you so much for making these videos.
Good Morning Adam from Hong Kong. Really appreciated your content, pace of delivery and enthusiasm for the subject. Great way to enjoy a cup of coffee before heading out with camera in hand for a day of exploring. Thanks so much for the fine effort.
You put so much thought and work, nit just into your photography but also in your YT sessions. Such great explanation and so many well culled and super images to demonstrate.
Thanks again Adam!! I am really enjoying your channel, your work is amazing. I found you through watching Gavin's channel, you must have the patience of a saint hanging around with him, lol Oh yeah don't tell him I was over here.
Great video with examples and explanations. I'm also relieved to hear that I'm not the only one who isn't on board the focus stacking train. Others are welcome to do what they like, but it bother my conscious to do it and call it photography... So I don't.
Great info, compelling examples. I enjoy the logical yet friendly presentation. Your overall style fits so well with your "quiet light" theme. Thanks for continuing to very nicely illuminate the practical points of fine art photography.
Excellent series on composition and I have learned a lot. I have watched probably all of your videos and I still look forward to the new ones coming up. They are never tiring.
Your pictures are very moving. The explanations of what you ‘see’ , feel like you are translating the scene and give us a glimpse of the spirit of nature/ landscape.
Hello Adam. I’m still completely overwhelmed at your photos/ your compositions & reasons why or why not. Superb photos and tuition. Your advice will be with me on every landscape I take. Thank you. Subscribed & saved to folder. Neville J.
Absolutely love your philosophy of photography. As I was watching this video it reminded me of reading Galen Rowell. Please keep doing what you do as you have a niche like Rowell that far separates you from the pack.
Very, very helpful. These photographs are stunning - jaw dropping! It's clear, for the most part, that the 4x5s have much more depth in their color. Of all the vloggers out there, I think your teaching skills are some of the best. I'm moving to Seattle later this year. Hopefully I will have the opportunity to attend one of your workshops. Thank you for posting the series.
always love your videos Adam, Hoping to sign up for one of your joint workshops with Gavin at some point this year. also looking to take more regional road trips for photography this year an B.C. is one of those places i plan on going. Keep up the great work, i find your images inspiring, and educational, as a fellow landscape photographer. be safe while your carrying on with the f.4 crew in the pacific north west. looking forward to the fun videos that will produce.
That was a great one Adam and your points were well illustrated by the images. I'm amazed how many incredible images you have in your catalog. A benefit of being ancient, I suppose. ;-) And very talented! Cheers!
Dear Adam, I really enjoyed this video (as I always do watching your video's and photographs!). You may be 'old school' but still a renewer on landscape photography!
I am so guilty of putting on a wide angle lens, then plop something in the foreground of my image and think "Voila," my work here is done. I have, as of late, been trying to make that "something" in the foreground actually BELONG in the foreground . On paper, it seems like such an easy concept to understand, and yet? Thanks for your clear and well explained examples. Be well, Adam.

The best series around Landscape photography I've ever seen on UA-cam.

JoeMustang99 same here being an engineer I always struggle with the art side of my photography
Incredible video. One of the most descriptive ones I've seen for landscape. Thx
I agree with all you said. It is all true and makes sense. Old School is best.
Mr Gibbs
Their explanations are excellent.

Excellent series on composition and I have learned a lot. I have watched probably all of your videos and I still look forward to the new ones coming up. They are never tiring.
I've learnt so much from your videos Adam. Thank you.
David Muench. That’s a name I haven’t heard in quite a while. I too love his work. I can still recall the saturated wide angle landscapes he created.
Your pictures are very moving. The explanations of what you ‘see’ , feel like you are translating the scene and give us a glimpse of the spirit of nature/ landscape.
Great video Adam, your knowledge supported by your images are very educational and inspiring! Thanks for sharing👌
Im using for 95% wide angle, so... a very usefull vlog to me Adam. Thnx

No one does it better, my friend. Great work.
