    Lou,
    I was re-watching this glorious build and I remembered some "blueprints" I once had way back in the mid 70's.
    If I recall, those 4 large windows in the top of the saucer section are mess halls.
    I haven;t watched it in a while but I think in "Charlie X" there was a scene where you can see a big something on the ceiling behind Uhura maybe. Just for a second.
    And, I believe the row of big, square ones on the lower part of the secondary are rec areas.
    Wow, doing a big one like really lets the details be brought forth. All those little details we never saw on our 15" CRT's back in the day.
    Beautiful.

    Lou, I know this was a year ago but have you tried Lithium Grease on the gear boxes of the motors. It's made for electronics and should quiet it down a lot.

    Rats, I forgot...
    There is a product used for sound deadening on classic cars during restorations.
    Dynamat. I saw a demo. One square inch stick to a bass drum completely flattened its sound.
    I see it used practically everywhere when I see auto rebuilds. Supposed to be the bees knees for sound block.
    Just for any future motorized builds.

    You want to get rid of the fibers you just use a hand torch on really low and kiss them with fire

    They might have meant 3.84" from the other side of the vent, but might be completely wrong.

    It's really amazing how much prep work goes in before you can finish a kit. The Enterprise is looking incredible and quite beautiful. Great work on filming the progress Lou!

    Lou, I'm back!!!! My hard drive crashed in my laptop which forced me to watch the Big E updates on my TV. That wasn't bad since it's a pretty good size screen but couldn't leave any comments. The build is looking great!! The nacelles turned out great!! Good job on locking the bussard collectors in place and those lights are spot on. I'm glad you've started on the saucer which is going to be interesting to watch.

    Lou, the applied nails painted with the hull's powder blue-gray finish would look very flattering on you for a formal evening out. :)

    Brushless motors from an RC planes would work much better. Even a drone motor would work. You could easily adapt two ESC and two motors wirh a servo testor to adjust the speed of both motors would really work. I am glad I am into RC planes now. I have found both my modelling experience of 45 years has crossed over into the RC field. I have built the Reliant Model and found that the navigation kit for the RC planes can be used in The Space Ships. I can tell you its a lot cheaper buying a Turnigy navigation lighting kit and adapting it to work on the Reliant. Even two kits can be used if needed and is STILL cheaper than one specialty lighting kit for that model.

    I wouldn't worry too much about the noise from the motors Lou. All the models I've seen of this (big and small) that have working bussards are noisy. Some way worse than yours. It's just going to happen especially because the engines are just floating up there with no solid foundation to absorb the sound. Loving the job you're doing with this!!

    • @scottfirman
      @scottfirman 5 років тому

      Using brushless RC plane motors would eliminate that racket.

    REEmarkable progress, Lou!
    I have a quickee idea for those wayward windows on the underside: What you need is a scoop shape the will extend the big circle shape that contains the lights. Since you only need a local effect, I say place a piece of styrene over a toothbrush handle (or similar rounded shape, kitchem spatula?) and hit it with a heat gun/paint stripper. You need to hold the plastic down either with tape or both hands (which means the toothbrush (etc.) needs to be held down). And you can heat up the plastic and it will stay warm for a bit (not much of one).
    Cut out a hole that matches the shape, other end over the window and hey, presto! done and done.
    Tough about that dental acrylic being so different. What I wonder about is that if they knew it would cure white, is *that* what was an okay look? Hard to say. If they didn't know... criminal indifference! But I'm glad the old KISS product still serves (I got mine at Walmart)!
    Have a good trip/show.

      And I can do something similar for the 3 windows on each side by channelling from the rim window boxes...👍

    Caught this series at #5. Will.have to check out the previous 4. Looks very good so far.
    So what are you bringing to the "Nats". I can't go but there will be a number of fellow modelers from the Toronto area there. Maybe I can get them to take some photos of what you have.
    I've been scoping out the models you have on the shelves in the background. Very impressive!

    Would adding in a number of lengths of foam strips inside the nacelles help to deaden the sound further?

    Hey Lou
    Looking good as usual 👍
    A few updates back....saw a Land of giants Spindrif on your bench.
    Will we get to see that build?

    • @aztekdummy
      @aztekdummy  5 років тому

      Nope, that was a commission template job only

  • @vidar7106
    @vidar7106 5 років тому

    Yup.. foam down the entire length of the tube was what I meant. Sorry I wasn’t clearer on that. ( do this on 1/350 builds too!) The noise isn’t directly from the motor. It’s the planetary ring gear system Tamiya supplied with the motor.
    I need more detail on the new owner of the masters info if you would. I may need a new primary hull top. Apparently it shrunk before leaving CR back in the day because they actually epoxied a strip of styrene all the way around its edge to correct the diameter.

      Actually, I'm not using the tamiya motors, but ones that Steve Neill speced out for me.

    What's sad is all this work in the kit and you put it together and you have to listen to the loudest motors I have ever heard. Just a shame for such a beautiful project.

    • @Wild-Dad
      @Wild-Dad 5 років тому

      God only knows how loud the motors on the original model sounded like. In a studio, nothing like that matters.
      After all, it is a replica, maybe they were trying to replicate the motor sounds as well. LOL!
