    Bummer about the control board failure but the ship is looking great!! I'm glad you could still access all that wiring and the board to make repairs. It really looks different with the gloss gone and the weathering added. The dullcote changed the appearance completely and in fact was rather amazing. The Big E is awesome!!!

    Consider your design a success. You made the board accessible in case something went wrong. It did and you didnt have to tear it apart. It's a good example to the rest of us builders.

    Incredible work! When you say a "smaller" project ... well, that could be anything compared to this! LOL. Hope the board situation works out, as I'm sure it will.

  • @MrChief101
    @MrChief101 5 років тому

    "--smaller project"? Everything's smaller than this one.
    Every detail is looking quite spectacular-- even when you linger in super close-up, the time when modelers break into a sweat...
    Electrical problems... sure; the best news is that the wiring is still all there. Smiles all 'round when it's the board and the LEDs still light up.
    I am still picturing you with the ship in place, the room lights dim, the ship lights bright and you put your feet up on the saucer as you open a beer. Ahhh...

    Build is looking awesome as usual, as is the paint job...love the color..
    Looks just like the filming model. I am curious though why u painted the turbo lift behind the bridge that dark grey color? I don't recall it ever being that color on the filming model or any other version I've seen.

    • @aztekdummy
      @aztekdummy  5 років тому

      It's actually a dark green. And it is correct. Look up the restoration pictures and you will see it. A lot of the greens tended to appear shades of gray on tv

  • @colhero
    @colhero 5 років тому

    Nice Lou! Tho Im not crazy about the weathering on the sides of the primary hull - it wasn't nearly that prominent on the original and is reminiscent of the over-weathered rework when it first went to the Smithsonian, and the CGI version in the reworked series.

  • @robonyt
    @robonyt 5 років тому

    Sorry about the setback, but I'm sure Ralph will get you squared away. Instead of the Decal Bonder, try Microscale Liquid Decal Film. It's applied with a brush, levels out and dries very thin, and you can avoid the spray bomb cloud.

  • @TwistedSisterHaratiofales

    So I know you were not particularly impressed with my scaling work, However I have been setting up plans for a TOS Romulan BOP, and a Klingon D7 in this scale. I have some camera equipment to get, like a tripod so I can YT the layouts and builds.

    • @aztekdummy
      @aztekdummy  5 років тому +1

      you know, I put a tape measure on my finished ship and it comes out to 67.25 inches all in. what does that do to your scaling?
      I guess 66" just sounds better. Like how a 2x4 isn't really 2 x 4

    • @TwistedSisterHaratiofales
      @TwistedSisterHaratiofales 5 років тому

      @@aztekdummy Yea, LOL, 2X4s were that about 100 years ago and the edges were sharp. they started smoothing out the edges so they wouldn't splinter as bad and overtime they became 1 and 3/4 inches by 3 and 3/4 inch boards, but we still call them 2 by 4's.
      I will check the scale with the extra inch and a quarter. It might edge it up to the next nearest scale number.
      That would be good to know so I can build the 2 TOS Romulan and Klingon ships to match yours.
      I don't know if you have been watching the 72 inch build on Trek Works. He is still cutting all the windows and ports out of the carbon fiber so it might be a bit before he actually starts building it.
      You have sure out done yourself on this beauty.

    • @TwistedSisterHaratiofales
      @TwistedSisterHaratiofales 5 років тому

      @@aztekdummy So at 66" the closest scale on a whole number would be 1/172 as I stated previously.
      At 67 and a quarter inches long OAL it comes out to 1/169 scale.
      I am still tempted to go with the 1/72 scale. The Bird of Prey would be about 4 feet wide and 3 foot in length. Not to large and could look good. The D7 would be just a tad over 10 feet with about 2 foot 9 inch height. Large but due to the dimension's and with the neck and all I think it is doable. The constitution though would be 13 feet and a quarter inch long, and since she is built more in a rectangular area, that makes her about 4 and a half feet in height. so if put on a stand it is a much more cumbersome ship.
      I think maybe later I may shoot for something like that but I would either like to match yours or the 72 inch model for now once I get the shop and camera's set up.

    • @aztekdummy
      @aztekdummy  5 років тому

      @@TwistedSisterHaratiofales somewhere in my travels I remember reading that the original Romulan Bird of prey was about the size of the "footprint" of the saucer of the Enterprise .That always seemed a good place to start.

    • @TwistedSisterHaratiofales
      @TwistedSisterHaratiofales 5 років тому

      @@aztekdummy I have several pictures of the original model from Desilu studio's. You are right that it was about that size, however the thing was that the whole model was about that size. Ironically it was vaguely close to 1/72 scale.
      Since the modeler of the original model didn't receive credit for its conception and construction, The story that I read is that he destroyed the original model.
      In the 1970's the blueprints were created by some one else for the (Star Trek Technical Manual). the height of the main engines on the Line Drawings is to high when compared to the pictures and movie frames of the episode Balance of Terror.
      Again, luckily they did assign an absolute foot measurement to the ships dimensions, si scaling it for me isn't a problem. What I have always found amusing is that in the shows and movies, and You Tube recreates, they make the ship way to large for the dramatic effect. It is about a quarter the length of the Enterprise, but it ends up being like 2/3rds the size in the shots.

    5 yards left on a 100 yard football field.
    Ha - Good thing you are in the States, if you were up here in the great white, instead of 5 yards, you'd have to worry about 15 yards!

    • @AvengerII
      @AvengerII 5 років тому

      He wants it screen accurate.
      They considered using an LED board with lighting effect on the 11-ft model in the Smithsonian (for the last restoration) but you can't replicate the original effect without spinning domes. It just doesn't look the same.
      It looks better with the spinning domes.
      I've seen the stationary bussards with the "spinning LEDs" and it does NOT look like the original series at all.
      The better builds with lighting that I've seen have all used spinning bussard covers.
