Felvidek’s art style reminds me of those papers or assignments they would print out in elementary schools and because of the printer and ink they would end up looking like that. Not that the game looks bad I find it quite interesting and charming but it just reminds me of that sort of thing where the pictures on papers look off with school printers
Wait, they got a job at Warhorse? While a remarkable accomplishment (who doesn't want steady work and pay), it's a touch bittersweet. It's clear as day Jozef has quite the creative bone, and the thought of him just working on little more than implementation is a little heartbreaking. Here's hoping they get a chance to direct their own game with a budget and team!
Correction: Felvidek isnt a region in souther slovakia. It is what hungarian nationalists call the whole of slovakia, since it was a part of hungary for 1000 years. Would be like americans calling canada the 51st state (kind of)
Ooh, understood. I took only a passing look at information on the region for this review, and I must have misunderstood what I was seeing. Thanks for the correction!
Both are correct actually. Felvidek is used both for entire Slovakia but also the Hungarian minority calls southern Slovakia - the part of Slovakia they live in - Felvidek
@@Brozef Yeah but they do it to insinuate that they dont live in "szlovakia" but northern hungary no? My hungarian friend that lives near the border says it.
getting strong Disco Elysium vibes from this. Not only because of the two protagonists but especially for what you had to say about humor and tragedy being so close to each other. This looks like a very interesting game to me, great video :)
Zeno Clash may supply on that front as well. Has a forest full of people who simply decided to go insane and only pursue one single thing in life. Like walking in a straight line or wanting to become invisible, so you scratch out the eyes of anything that could see you.
I think the style the visuals are going for is like, the venn diagram overlap that happens to exist between the look of old CGA PC graphics and early modern-era European print engravings. Which, as an art history student and lover of unique game aesthetics is. SO COOL.
A friend ended up recommending me this upon release cuz the monster designs were my type lol Glad to get a reminder from one of my fave UA-camrs i should absolutely get this
I really hope we get a sequel. I played through this game recently and I was thinking about it for days later. The music is amazing, the story, the low-stakes, the humour, the characters.
Sounds great. I could have swore this was around for a while but it says it came out this year? Must have been an earlier version I heard about. Whatever, added to my steam wishlist.
I bought Felvidek and started playing. Died in 5 minutes after letting a corrupt guard lead me to a barn where he and his evil comrades promptly murdered me. 10/10 do recommend.
With your expressed desire at the end of this video, i'd be very curious to hear your thoughts on the Zeno Clash games. Not RPGs, but very interesting and quite unique world.
Weird, I'm playing a game that sounds a lot like this one in its structure right now. It's called The Bookwalker: Thief of Tales. It's about a world where writers travel inside books to write them. So you'll be traveling into 6-7 different stories, that give the game an anthology type of feel. It also is about two characters, with a mix of comedy and drama that works. Though there's more drama than comedy, not an even mix. It's more or less a point in click adventure game, but it also has a very small amount of combat that cleary is not the focus. That's a weird coincidence. I'd recommend it, it surprised me. It'll be in Gamepass until the 15ht of June, as it's leaving soon. It's 15 dollars otherwise.
the art style reminds me of who's lila but not quite. it's not super dotted like it can be, but it's close. also they have a connection through the "lynchian comparison", though one is directly inspired by lynch, and the other is somewhat. also they're both made by slavic devs, funny coincidences
As someone who has worked with RPG Maker before: Oh my god does this game *not* look like it was made in RPG maker. There's a lot of stellar RPG maker games on Steam that do a lot to revamp the graphics and make themselves stand out while still being easily clocked as RPG maker, this is not one of them (at least until some of those stock sound effects come into play)
I think you're giving the combat too much credit. Once you use up your tools a lot of the fights devolve into just slapping the enemy with basic attacks until you chew through their HP, especially in the early game. The lack of in-combat MP recovery is novel, but in practice just means jogging back to a shrine for a full restore in between fights. There are only a couple areas where you're forced to do multiple battles without an opportunity to refresh. Everything else you said is spot on. Kickass game.
Slovakia only exists since 1995, so a "15th century Slovakia" in the description makes no sense. 15th century Northern Hungary would be the proper description.
Yeah true but that's probably less useful for an uninformed audience. Like I don't know where Prussia was so I'd find it more useful to say the modern country that occupies that same space.
@@tomigun5180 The country is called Slovakia right now. The country in the game is Slovakia, in the 15th century, where it was called something else, and was occupied by someone else. Only ultranationalists will use depreciated location terminology in casual conversation. For example, I call St. Petersburg it's rightful name, Pietari, because Russian ultranationalists get triggered by it. But it's still called St. Petersburg.
Apparently "MATEJ" is pronounced "MATEY" and not "MATEJUULAR" or "MATEJSAMUNE"
Gonna take a long walk off a short pier.
We are used to it, haha. The best approximation would prolly be MAH-TYEY, which can be difficult to pronounce
I can’t believe you don’t know how to pronounce the name of the most famous Slovakian katana. 🤦
Cringing each time you said it, haha!
Gotta love Slavic language family >D
@Sm00k Matej is hungarian actually
I agree with the message of this video, please buy the game

For me it feel like Commodore era games, with all that dithering and stuff.
We called those ditto machines at my Catholic school in the early-mid 90s. God alone.
This game's humor is amazing. I remember laughing out loud at the "Fortune, that i fell asleep clad in armor!"
I just adore how all the Hungarian swearing in the game is almost absolutely nonsensical. Much like how we actually swear irl
High effort RPG maker, GZDoom and AGS games are one of my favorite things in this world
my only strife with this game is that non-slovak speakers will never see how truly intelligent and hilarious the writing is in its original language
also if you're non-slavic you're not gonna get some things referenced, but those are small things. genuinely phenomenal game
yeah in slovakian its so funny and various accents glorify the language

Just wanted to say I appreciate the effort you put into making your intro jingle sound like a vcr recorded bootleg of itself. Unironically.

Another Maj video? Truly the best timeline.
More like the very worst possible timeline but the devs put in a handful of epic eastereggs to reward macocistic players
The first RPG to star a living Shinkiro Smile as its main character. Beautiful!
I call them Takashi Miyamotos. But I will accept your take. Valid.
I was wishing upon a star you'd give this a look, cursory or otherwise. Guess I should've aimed higher. Lottery next time.
