so, as a diamond support, I would much rather have a tank who knows how to properly cycle their cooldown and knows how to enable the dps than a tank like this. I dont need my tank to hit a lot of shots - although obviously thats nice to have - i need a tank who understands how to play on a team. this tank's play style demands a ridiculous amount of support resources because they misuse all of their own resources. supports on the same team as this type of tank cant afford to look away from them for a SECOND, which means there aren't enough support resources to enable the dps or the supports themselves.
I think this person will be stuck in plat for some time. they lack the fundamental skills necessary to climb to diamond as a tank. you can brute force your way to plat on mechanics alone, but you won't get further than that.
This 100%, by being inefficient on tank you make your supports do less because they have to waste resources and time healing damage you shouldn't have taken, and your dps just get less space since there is less overall pressure and you have to fall back more often because you missuse cooldowns. On 2nd defense first point this guy peeks a turret bastion, wastes his matrix blocking shots that would hit nothing, loses 400hp on his mech for no reason, forces the lifeweaver pull, which loses any semblance of map control and instantly loses the point. How can you think you're carrying when it looks like you've never played the heroes before?? I thought this was silver before emongg said the rank
As someone who is learning DVA at the moment this is actually great insight and advice! I’m a support main so I experience a lot of the time having to only just focus heal on my tank bc they take up so much damage in my games. But this is good to think about while I practice dva in qp. Thanks!
@@prettypinkbooks of course! dva is a great choice because you have the mobility to get in and out and to get to high ground. we all know high ground is important, but one of the reasons why it's important is because it can provide very easy cover for you to disengage and get healed up.
something I really value from a dva in my rank is how they use their DM strategically. it's okay to take some damage as a tank. it's inevitable, first of all, but it's also part of the job, just like healing is part of our job as supports. so use DM for specific things - to deny a turret form bastion, to eat ults, to provide protection for your team. don't just use it to avoid chip damage, you know? that's why you have supports.
oh! have you watched emongg's video about dva vs all the other tanks? it was super helpful for me as someone who enjoys playing dva occasionally for fun and also as a support to understand how to support my dvas better.
also, if you haven't, check out his video where he coaches svb on dva, also super helpful. he talks about how sometimes on dva, you're not the tank anymore, one of your teammates becomes the tank and you focus on helping them out. it was a really useful way of thinking about dva imo.
and they're both just really good videos too :D

Well if really helps if the opposing tank won't swap against a hard counter to himself aka Winston into a Mauga. Otherwise the tank we are watching would have been smoked
Exactly; I literally got into plat abusing Orisa. My CD usage isn’t as bad as this person’s but it just goes to show anyone can lock Orisa and climb if you do decently enough

Aggression on tank can make up for a lot of technical errors in gold/plat and even into diamond that you only start getting punished for severely later on. This player is aggressive and it's masking their mistakes, in part because they're ALSO on Orisa who is harder to punish than some other tanks.
I think if they watch this back and they don't watch themselves, they watch their team around them, they'll realize that they're forcing their teammates to play worse to compensate for their own playstyle. 2 minutes in your Brig almost gets killed (and should've gotten killed) trying to prevent you from falling over holding that choke. You're not hard carrying, you are taking multiple teammates amount of resources as well as your own to allow you to play how you want to. That means THEY don't have their cooldowns when they need them for anything that's not supporting you, and puts them in tough spots.
Cool down usage was abysmal. That said, blue teams DPS really struggled to get picks. Too much time for red teams dps to harrass the backline and prevent support from performing their duties. Blue teams tank didnt necessarily carry, but definitely put in a lot of good work, especially considering their support spent a lot of time fighting with Sombra in order to stay alive. Blue teams widow...? Basically AFK.
If the opposing teams tank didn't feed as Winston in that last round and swapped to another tank they could have won easily
Support carry. This tank requires their supports to pop off in order to win games. The cool down usage was beyond abysmal. They spammed their CDs so much they accidentally used them correctly a few times. The supports were pumping everything they had into the tank so the DPS had to get healed by the passive. The tank stood in open ground nearly the entire game. The only thing this tank is carrying is their support's healing numbers.
Yeah I feel like after seeing the sombra in the roster he should (as Winston) dove the sombra at every chance there were several times where I saw her just straight up kill him when he shouldn’t have died
@@JoseMendoza-dl4hg I get what you mean but in masters you also require supports in order to play tank. Their cooldown usage could be improved but that's something you can easily improve.
Whenever I play tank, if I'm doing well, I immediately assume it's because my supports are better than the other team's because of the current state of tanks
All the way until 2:53, this guy is not carrying, his supports are doing all the heavy lifting, but most notably is the enemy team's lack of awareness and skill, they're so forgiving.
He wasn't carrying at any point in time. He was just existing as a tank doing generic tank things. Most of the big plays were set-ups by their team mates, on their own they didn't really do much except exist.
I feel like this person heard the phrase "its better to overuse your cooldowns than underuse your cooldowns because if you overuse them you at least have a chance of using them correctly"
When you have a widow not hitting shots its basically a 5v4. The reaper tried to compensate. However with the orisa being the third dps. they had no chance.
I think this Orisa has given us a new Emongg one liner. We'll simply just call it "yup cooldown" 😂

Today I learned that Orisa's Javelin Spin can get rid of Moira orbs.
Its basically DM-lite, really handy to keep in mind!
I major tip!! Cooldowns are like Bike pedals. You have to cycle them. You’ll never press down on two pedals at the same time while riding. Same applies here.
I mean I wouldn't say never, theres definitely times for using multiple things, but for poke phase you really should use them conservatively in a slow cycle. You mostly want to cycle them when you don't benefit from, or get punished by being inefficient

Even when using both of them, you’ll have to try and split them up.
Even if you spin AND then activate your fort.
BUR NOW, I feel the change may be Fort and then spin because you’ll take less damage going in but move slower, but you’ll need your spin to get out fast. I’m messing around with the cool downs even more

Orisa's Forify ability is a DPS ability since it lets her shoot for longer, that's why you have to spam it, duh

I feel like Emongg just kept saying bad cooldown usage instead of explaining what good cooldown usage is. Like if that is what they struggle with maybe explain the chess match that is cool down/ resource trading.

Orisa’s a funny tank. Low rank players can get so much value from just spamming cooldowns. For the rest of the tanks, you have to be smart with how you play and use your cooldowns. But you can climb to Plat/Diamond just from button mashing with Orisa.
Having an ego playing Orisa is like being that kid in school who sucked up to the teacher. You may think youre cool but to everyone else youre just a douche.
On a worse take, this is the reason why we lose games in plat, tanks who just exists in the battlefield and shooting whatever they see, without any exact intention how they want to make a play. It's very frustrating when people are in a certain rank and not know how to play their rank.

On a more serious note, besides the poor cooldown usage, your biggest issue is that you often bait your own team into fighting in horrendous positions, such as going past the choke constantly, being out in the open, staying out close to enemy spawn etc. You're playing together with other silver players, when they see their tank push up they feel safe and push up too. When you then quickly back away, their response and repositioning will be delayed and they'll die for it, because you baited them into a position by pretending it's safe, and then bailing out yourself after you got your team to follow you into that spot. First death on your team is because you lured your Sombra into overextending and aggroing.
You're the tank, you're responsible for communicating to your team what space is safe to fight in. Don't just run out into the open and push, if you know you're gonna run away 2 seconds later. Just stay in a good spot, let your team know that's the spot you're playing in, and settle around proper cooldown usage. You're toying with your own team and you don't even realize it.

So he literally can't make a proper change. Saying what's being done wrong is not enough as far as teaching something. If you don't say how to do it right then it doesn't help 😂 when are you supposed to use the gold????
Don't use it when you have full HP and are not in danger. Or if you want an specific example, use it when you have discord orb on you and bastion is blasting you, and in general in Overwatch you decide what to do depending on the situation. The right decision one second ago, could be the wrong decision one second later.
people are capable of critical thinking. ideally, sure, emongg would mention the more ideal situations. everyone has an off day sometimes. but people should have the capacity to think, "Okay, I have been told not to use gold in this situation. What is going on in this situation? How's my health? Where are my supports? Where are the enemies? Am I under pressure? Why do I feel like I need to use gold here, and could I position differently to avoid feeling the impulse?"
It's not that hard. it just takes the willingness to use analytical, critical thinking.
