I usually don't give a damn about the freehub soundcheck but you can't go talking about how special and unique those wheels sound without giving us a taste you bastard!!
Why would you need really fat tires and disks on a bike for gravel? My Douglas Ti handles fine with 28 road tires and rim brakes on aluminum tubeless Sirocco Campy wheels.
You nailed it: I'm running 2018 M525/DT Swiss 240s and 43mm and also Enve 4.5 AR Disc and 30mm G-Ones - it's so nice with an easy swap and riding everywhere...or just ride the 43mm Graveling SKs if I'm lazy
Same here. I've recently added the 11-40 XT cassette, a new chain, and the RD-RX800 to my CX bike and it works like a charm, even with lots of strain going up steep hills.
Some guy named Cannings might have issue with your statement: "You could, theoretically, swap in a mountain bike rear derailleur." On a recent GCN Tech show Jon made the point that BOTH the RD and FD have to be either Road or Mtn for the Di2 to work correctly. Personally, I would begin by running the B-screw in and try a 36t cog or more.
I have a gravel bicycle. I have the same set up this bicycle. It is my N= 1, I wanted it this way because I can ride it in the city and out in the country side without much sacrifice.
I've run an 11-40 on the mechanical version of that derailleur with no problem on my CX bike. Shimano does tend to be very conservative with derailleur limits.
@@fadenseiden not sure, but I'd assume so. Shimano says both have the same capacity, and I think the cages are the same length. I haven't tried it myself though.

I wonder if I live long enough to see these titanium bikes thrown by the trash cans like so many steel frame gems of the 90s these days. Electrification makes the classic bicycle fueled by human sweats and bananas seem outdated.
Seems that more gravel bikes are now moving to 650 wheels which seem to offer benefits over 700 wheels i.e fatter tyres=more comfort. This isn't picked up in the video but would welcome thoughts on this when comparing with a mountain bike-
Uh oh, look out Si, Ollie will call you an American in his silly accent for calling them fenders. Someone should tell Ollie that is the equivalent of doing a cockney accent for a British person.
To make any non suspension road-gravel bike a more comfortable and awesome one; install a redshift suspension seat post as they also make a bicycle stem with suspension capabilities and voila, a gravel and or road bike rider will have a more comfortable ride.
Moots certainly make gorgeous bikes. And they arent afraid to make unusual design choices, which is a pretty rare thing in the modern 'please everyone' design trend era.
Makers need to get beyond spec-ing these bikes with compact road doubles. Just doesn't make sense. Not many people are going to try to push a 50x11 down dirt tracks.
You said you could increase the range of road groupset by putting a MTB derailleur on, I think a GRX rear mech would work with road shifters but unfortunately road shifters don't work with MTB derailleurs... I ran into this problem myself and I ended up buying 2 rear mechs and put a sram eagle cage on sram road rear mech and it works.
I was at the moots factory in steamboat springs today and saw this exact routt 45 today. Truly a work of art. I was amazed that he did this kind of ride on a di2 equipped bike.
Not with Si's POWER. I agree for the rest of us though. Add some packs, 45mm nobs, and rough terrain, im going to be much happier with a 46-30 and that same cassette. 1x may actually be a better set up as long as you get a bigger mech and cassette. Oh boy, we could go on for days. Regardless, for this terrain, there's no need for a 50t ring.
HI, I mistakenly built a wheel with a 700C rim and a MTB hub for a Fuji Finest Racer I converted to a Gravel Bike. This was going to be a back up wheel for steep mountain rides. The axel will not fit into the Fuji but will fit nicely into my Iron Horse Mountain Bike. However, the Cantilever brakes pads will not reach the 700C rim. What can I do to fit this wheel into my converted Fuji Finest Racer? Should I cut the axel shorter or something else? I was unable to pry open the Reynolds 531 frame to ram the axel in. Thanks for any help.
I think the most exotic alloy for frames is Columbus Spirit! And your touring bike looks much more like a racing bike instead. Why would anyone tour with Di2 stuff? Oh yeah, you got a support crew filming you, and you possibly got the groupset for free anyway. I myself don't trust 100% my 10s STI's (for tour), bar end levers can always go friction mode... And Ti is harder to repair in the middle of nowhere if it cracks. Any dirty workshop can weld a steel frame. Same goes for carbon wheels, I'd rather tour with 32 spoke alloy for touring. And carbon fork: no eyelets for rack... My gravel/tour bike got a carbon fork, but for traveling it has a steel one with eyelets. Oh, you can always have more bottles. My gravel bike got two cages inside the downtube, and another 2 holes in between so I can choose to have 2 small bottles there or a Salsa Everything cage. And also another one behind the seatpost, a total of 5 bottles. And finally, the gearing... Sometimes a 2:3 or lower gear is very welcome. I think you can have that ultegra crankset go 46/30 somehow, but it's nice to have it even smaller!
Your bike is super nice, Simon, no doubt… (Bell ring). But I wish you had said something about how the ride felt. Titanium frames are said to be the most flexible, and maybe not the best when loaded with bags. So did you feel the frame bend or twist a bit? Did it feel soft when you push the cranks hard?
I have a Lynskey Ti, Its hard to describe the way Titanium rides. Yes it is flexy but not in a bad way, It soaks up tons of shock from the surface but it does not flex or feel soft when cranking up a hill or sprinting. Oh and easy as hell to keep clean... hope this helps
For those who can't afford a Moots, right now you can get a Lynskey GR 260 titanium gravel bike, fully-built, for $2395 direct from Lynskey. About 1/3 the cost of Si's Routt 45.
On your opinion how many Moots Routt 45 titanium gravel bikes are currently in UK ? And in Europe ? Which are the sale perspectives ROOTS has in 2019 for this bike?
First theres what's called a bicycle, then a racing bike with thin wheels, then a bmx, a mountain bike that later divided into three categories. Nice bike - and after watching the other related Iceland videos, a question. Should Gravel/ All Road bikes have a 'Soft Tail'?? Like the Moots MTB has? I like the idea of it on a gravel bike.
Do Shimano have an Ultegra rear derailleur that combines Di2 technology with the clutch technology? I note that R8050 has a Di2 option (no clutch) and RX800 has the clutch but is manual. I ask because I put a long arm derailleur on my road bike so I have a 32 when I go on holidays in Dolomites/Pyrenees but the chain can bounce around.

No need to change out the rear derailleur to fit a bigger cassette. Just adjust the B screw with the long cage and you can fit up to a 11-40.
