You can heat the tip a bit with a lighter then crimp it together with some flat pliers so the tip welds shut. Then keep it in your fridge until you need it again.
If the silicones are already hard, I usually use them for other purposes, like making doorstops, or cushioning the legs of furniture in the house, etc. :)
Clear, packaging tape works the best to seal up the end of a caulk tube, make sure you squeeze a little bit out and there's some sticking out if it does get hard, you just pull the plug out and it'll take you to the good stuff...

Once it's past it's expiry date you can throw it in the garbage. Silicone I will last longer but you will still have to deal with it hardening at the cartridge nozzle.
OMG! If you think it's worth the effort, the elctricity for the air gun, the time, the glue, the hot glue, etc... for saving some scraps of silicone that probably it's still past its expiration date and it's not sealing anymore? (believe me, I've experienced this with silicone that looked "still good" but wouldn't cura anyomre). I only need it's worth it in case of extreme need

@@taunteratwill1787 Yes , does work. I literally do this all the time as I never get through a whole tube for any given job. Make sure that all the air is squeezed out of the bag and that it is sealed properly. And no holes in bag.

Lol... had to wait for the last moment to watch the way I do it... a screw... it works fine... better than tape... with tape, you will need to use a screw to clean the tip...
Just as an FYI....they sell product where you cut the tube and install a clone tube like from the factory. Saves you from all the jury rigging....also tip condoms.

@@kloppskalli Yes keeping it cool definitely helps.
Once you cleared out the tip you could have just poked a big hole in the end of the tube, put the spout back on and it would have worked just fine.

Gave it to some kids, told them it was candy. 😋
Dried silicone can be employed to clean sand paper.

why is cutting off the end of the tube etc better than leaving it alone - surely the original is sealed better than the “replacement”?
Because we need to remove the dried silicone glue so we can get the remaining usable glue out
Or ... you could just, like, keep it in a ziplock bag once it's opened. Keeps for months if you make sure that it's sealed properly.
