404mkii is great for electronic with the pad mute update. I've been making deep house, jungle, ukg, and 2 step, been meaning to make some techno on it. Love the resampling workflow. My favorite thing is hammering out a percussion pattern with a few different elements, muting the rest of the samples, resampling the pattern with scatter and djfx. Sequencing the resampled pattern into the pattern sequencer. Instant glitchy layers all on a single pad
Good you kept on working on using the SP for other genres although you have already released a relevant video. Always enjoy seeing you trying stuff out with it! Btw, have you tried midi controlling or sequencing external gear with it? Has that midi out any use on the current firmware?
@@LiamKillen can't wait to see what you come up with. I ve seen many people's comments on UA-cam or in forums trying to figure that out. My guess is that roland is working on firmware updates that will make better use of its midi out and hopefully -fingers crossed- a step sequencer that will double its value!
I remember hearing Blue Monday for the first time in 1985. My older bother's friend was into this band called New Order. I was in the back seat headed to a HS soccer game. His sound system was incredible for the time. My ears and mind exploded with my first dose of techno. Anyway.. your video triggered that memory.
I decided I wanted one of these and I found out they're sold out til August/September of this year. Not gonna pay $700-$850 for it. Some stores got them but reselling on ebay for crazy prices instead of shop 🤦♂️. I might buy a mpc one and a mpk mini 3 for the time being and grab this later on the year when it's not crazy
@@LiamKillen it just doesn't record in pattern mode. It works when you play it. Also, can you put a word in to have them add more high hat variations and also make the 16 velocity levels able to play with the roll continuously? Step mode helps a lot, but these seem like easy fixes to program drums easier. Thanks!
Liam, any idea why my MkII app won't recognize .wav files when I search to import them? Even ones that are already 16bit 48000hz? I'm opening up my folders with loops and hits through the app, and the app thinks they're empty. I can't get any help on Reddit. :\. I've been using the SD card which I'd prefer to not HAVE to use. I really want to start using the drag and drop app when I'm connected to my computer. Love your vids again
Liam, love your channel and decided to invest in a sp404mk2 based on your reviews and tutorials which are all excellent.. I have a question.. What headphones are your go to product when using the roland sp4040 mk2 alone? I've seen the DT770 range but am unsure which model would be best.
Honestly, I don't think that specific headphones make that much of a difference! :-) If you have a quality pair you're good to go no mater what the instrument.
Also, you could have made your bass mixing demonstration while the pattern was playing instead of coming back and forth from and to pattern mode. To get into pitch/speed mode with a pattern playing, you have to first get into rehearsal mode, then hit the pitch/speed button. Hope this is helpful.
@@LiamKillen Of course not, ha ha, that would've been too easy (kidding). It's a most wanted feature request, don't know if we'll ever get it, but the MKII is already a powerhouse so I personally don't mind if we don't.

Some great tips here! Thx for watching 😊
Good to see the techno perspective on the 404. Thanks as always for the great content!
Always a pleasure thanks for being here Surco!
…and I just found out about this gem?!? What. A. Great. Video.
Should come bundled with any SP purchase!
Oh wow thanks you for watching! I really appreciate it.
Holy Molly....You are underrated.
1 for the algorithm...everyone.
1 for the algo indeed! Thanks for being here 🙏
Giddy up ... there is no looking back .. cheers to the process !!
Cheers! 🍻
Liam is always killing it! 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks Johnny!
Hey, have you tried sequencing the MK2 with external midi? I'd love it if you could demonstrate with a video with the digitone.
That’s something I haven’t explored much with the MK2 but will for future videos!

You’re not the first to request this! I’m working on finding an angle for a future video.

Love those nostalgic type of stories 😊

Yeah the demand for these is bonkers
Dude, love your videos. How can we record hats using the roll button? Is it a bug that we can't? am I missing something?
If I remember correctly you just activate roll and hold down your hh sample… 🤔

Nice 👌

How did you get the Green Cover Face for your SP-404 Mkll?
Style flip!
You can record chromatic mode by pushing mark button :)
But can you do it in real time while a pattern is running in the pattern sequencer?
Does the OB-4 add latency?
Not since their latest update

How long did it take to get the machine?
I was lucky enough to get it first in exchange for related content
yesssss.. :)
🍻
You can actually resampling chromatic mode, it's the other way around: you first go into chromatic mode, then hit resample. Cheers.

Oh cool ! And you can perform a chromatic take into the pattern sequencer?

I use my 404s for techno. Take a look at my stuff
It works for everything! Just gotta sample 😏
@@LiamKillen line synths in record and go
@@tohellandbacknoface4091 where is your stuff man?
Can you access the quantize menu from the resample button or only through the pattern menu
I think it’s just through pattern if I’m not mistaken
I mean it’s just a sampler so of course it can do techno!
“Just” a sampler!? 😲
3:06 I laughed hard
😂
Great, but is not tekno.
Thanks for watching 😊
