The first 5 minutes of this video are more informative than 50% of UA-cam. Insanely good production!
Waiting on mine to arrive and I've watched like every video on this, and this is the most CLEAR video so far. GREAT.
Same dude! Can't wait for Monday :D
Yep me too 😊
😊
Same bro!!!!!! This waiting 30 days is killing me!!!!!!!!
I’m doing exactly the same lol! Can’t wait for mine to arrive. This is a great video btw. Cuckoo’s video is also great.
We are exactly the same
Just watching you working on this thing sparks so much fun. I am hyped.
This was phenomenal! Thank you so much for this, I’ll be referencing it a ton!
Great to see this in action already, thanks! Hoping to pick one up soon!
Got mine unwrapped on Xmas day and this is the BEST video tutorial Ive seen yet, well done!
That was pretty sick. Thank you for the concise overview!
A very solid tutorial. Excited to get mine next week!
Product design wise, this is a masterpiece
Thank you for this great video! I got mine yesterday and I’m still into practicing hour after hour. It’s so much fun to play around 😊
Top work on this Matt!!
🙏Thank you!
Stuck on pre-order at the moment. Really clear and concise vid. Top work. 😊
This was actually a really informative video. Nice work. Thanks for sharing mate.
Great tutorial, so much fun- looking forward to receiving mine soon :)
Great video! Can't wait for my K.O. II to arrive!
Wow thx for the video ,so well demonstrated and btw the beat is great x
What a beautifully done video.
Best demo/walkthrough yet just subbed and shared awesome brother
Very nice video, simple and very clear ❤
Mate this is perfect, thanks. I'll be referring back to this when mine arrives!
Very impressed!
Great work! Nice & clear. 👌
Wasn’t sold on it at first but after watching this video I’m definitely going to buy it when it comes back in stock
Great demo, thanks.
Best video out so far
Great tutorial. Quick & to the point!
loved your video with andertons..had to cop!
much love
Loved the beat
Great video !
Nice. Fresh. Clean.
Very helpful. Thanks!
Holy smoke. As a designer I have to admit: this thing is super sexy. Dieter Rams and StarWars Design meets Music. Stunning. Whatever this can do: I need it just because it's absolutely hot.
poser
rounded rec buttons in rec holes is a sin
You get off at calculators too? 😂
@@reallivebluescat only pocket operators. Boin Bum Tshack.
@@plocky401triggered much? 😅
Great presentation and interesting device.
imma half to watch this at half speed, so much info!
Excellent video thank you
Finally a good beat with one of these things
Great vid, subscribed
2:30 notice that when he was about to start recording he pressed KEYS which i now realize is how he pitched that one sample across different keys rather than it just being tied to that sample key alone , this is also how you tie it to a midi keyboard. I just got mine today and this thing can do so much, it's so powerful for its size and power requirement, it's overwhelming! But also amazing, great video so far 👌
Edit: he mentions this shortly afterward, I just got excited that I learned something early lol
great video
Excellent tutorial. I have to pause and practice but this is great!
Why has no other manufacturer thought of auditioning the sample as you turn a param knobs? It's so thoughtful. Also I am so glad they managed to squeeze pressure/velocity into this.
Maschine does
They make it look so effortless. 😅😅. Mines on its way
I was hoping not to like this hahaha but your demo is clear precise and on point..want:-)
Perfect video! This is the best intro for this gear! Btw, what scale and root note are you using in the settings for this video? Are you using default samples from the EP-133? Cheers!
Thank you 🙏 honestly can't remember the scale & root note set but the samples are all loaded from factory, other than those I recorded at the end of course!
Good intro!
Top video. Subbed 👍
@SPVIDZ You know you gotta have this sucker! Looks sick!
This machine is crazy. It looks so fluent and intuitive once you get the gist of it. Fantastic! Elektron should watch closely. And the rest of the industry. This is how you do it! Just waiting on my order shipment notification .... great video! Best one out so far! Thx for your effort! Love the track, too!!
I own all of them. Which one? Compare this in the same league: Model:Samples is more like Model:Crap compared to this. Also compare the amount of FX. We don't even get Chorus on AR, DT, ST? Come on... Those punch in FX e.g. are just THERE. No hourlong programming of Scenes or Performance knobs ... no ... just hit the buttons for some tape stop effect (you could probably program in an hour on an Elektron in that quality with smart LFOs etc.)
@Neiltrama1
@Neiltrama1 certanly yes elektron will blow you away in terms of Sound creation and feeling like Working on a big Computer. But this Thing is portable, Has build in speakers and is just fun to play around and not lose your mind over Parameters you can slighty hear. I own the digitakt and I love it but I also look into this Maschine for the Form and just for fun Sake! + always wanted to gift myself a po for christmas
Imo… the prob is ppl want to think their kit is best. Just buy what works for you and most importantly make music you enjoy. For me I got this on the way, but have no plans to replace my Elektrons.
@@dracul74lol nobody talks about exchanging! You gotta catch them all 😀 just need another 2 lives to make use of the hardware
@@dracul74same vibe, i just got this to have fun and maybe pair with a 404. I love my digitakt/tone boxes tho, just a great feature set and not too crazy
Looks really fun. I wonder why it doesn’t have a reverse function for samples. Hopefully they can add it in an update. Resampling would obv be great too.
I was lucky to see these when they first released, and I just got my shipping notification today. I'm surprised to hear the bottom end. Even with UA-cam tweaking the compression, they still have a fatness, that more expensive samplers don't have. This will pair very well with my Field and other gear. I imagine that the price will make these extremely popular. I have to wonder if the price is going to remain so low. It's very possible that TE plans on increasing the price in the future. They may just have it so low, so people will buy them up, and make content using them, so they create a buzz. I'm also curious if these are the first of many version, like the PO series. It would be interesting to see them make synths and drum machines too.
I think they were brilliant to price the KO at $300. It both instantaneously changes the narrative about them being the bougey “Apple of gear manufacturers”, and also priced a truly capable sampler so affordably that it’s basically a no brainer for a huge portion of the producer community. This is going to be the first purchase for so many aspiring producers, while still being appealing to folks with a $30k synth cave.
A lot of reports of faulty units already. Non functioning fader and bad buttons right out of the box.
I got my shipping notification today too 👌
Do you think they’ll raise it? I want to buy one now so bad…
What would the release in this form factor a synth version ?
Very appealing sweet piece of music-making. I'll grab one when the firmware update brings in individual pan, resampling, a possibility to refine the quantize (instead of on /off only) and the ability to record the punch-in fx, possibility to export not only the samples but a whole sequence. If they do that, then it will be close to perfection (aside from lacking an sd card slot).
Is there any hardware which meets these requirements ?
@@_FFFFFF_ in this format I think of the SP404MKII (Roland). Although the workflow seems more straightforward to me on the KO
@@mourahmusic I'm looking at learning one of these. Thank you for the feedback.

Great Video ! Just wondering if we can mute individual pads? can we live record loop (imput )like the loopstations ?
Cheers
2 more bars for good MEASURE. Well done I see what you did there 🎉
Thank you, TE. The balance has been restored and all grievances have been forgotten.
Awesome demo and track!
I must say that even though it looks beautiful and it does bunch of stuff more I do prefer the write layout of the original ko with clear led signaling where is note instead of the numbers .
Woooo !!!!
Clear 👌😏
OMG I must have!!!
Sold out!
Awesome! Curious, is there a way to string together scenes to make a song? Like pattern chaining in the OP-Z?
Not currently, I'm hoping we'll see it in future firmware updates :)
@@soundtechnologyhow are we supposed to do anything if we can’t chain scenes together, it’s like the basis of the song making process 😢
Amazing demo. Thank you!
Dumb question: can you control levels on different groups? For instance at 3:55 the chord was super quiet and overpowered by drums.
I'd also like to know that...
Yes you can. Aside from the individual sample volume per pad, you can also set the group volume using the fader (set to level function)
Thanks for the step-by-step explanations. For some of us, this is our first sampler, our first stab at production, and elementary explanations are incredibly helpful.
One thing I haven't figured out yet (my K.O. II is still in the mail!) is whether you can, and how to, store a project you've completed externally. Can you back it up as a file to a computer and send the file back at a later date?
At the moment, you will need to find a way to record your ideas to the computer. There is no way currently to export full project data, but you can back up samples that you capture using the EP Sample Tool (on TE's website)
@@soundtechnology well, that's a start! I guess that means working serially on one project at a time until it's complete and then recording the output as audio. It's a tough compromise to make for folks used to working with MIDI and sequencing, but I guess it makes you commit to a single idea at a time. Maybe that's not all bad.
great intro! (I still hesitate on this machine because it would seem a pixel LED offers more info about what's going on. Did you notice a lack of it?)
Haven't had any issues with navigation so far, but then we're used to Pocket Operators & OP-Z over here! A lot can be said for practice and muscle memory, but these machines tend to be intuitive with multiple ways to work with them! :)
All the effects are digital? An update of firmware in the fiture with sequencer step mode visible on screen when placing notes would be a welcomed addition.
Say you want to set up a song, do you need as many scenes are there are changes in the song (+ 1 counting the first scene) or can you sequence the scenes themselves?
Currently there's no song mode or arranger, so you need to manually move through scenes. However, each individual pattern's bar length goes up to 99, and you can save up to 99 scenes... so you could program a song start to finish if you really wanted. But I would recommend moving between scenes and using FX.
i ordered one on sight a few das ago but all the youtube videos i have seen made me cancel the order. this demo is probably the best I've seen yet. ta for that
Can you show how to sequence in chromatic scale like if I want to punch in actual notes and chords into the sequencer?
I'll cover it at some point soon
Can it sequence more than one external synth at a time? I know it can do at least one. Also can it record pitched bends when sequencing?
It can sequence up to 16 channels of midi.
I have some questions and requests:
1) PLEASE do a tutorial video breaking down how to remake the Hip Hop beat at the top of this video.
2) PLEASE make a sample chopping tutorial. What is the largest size for a single sample on the EP133?
3) Can lowpass be applied to specific samples? Or is it a global FX?
4) What is the resolution of unquantized recording?
5) Does the sequencer have a step-jump performance feature?
6) To whom do I need to address accessibility concerns regarding the web app one has to use to transfer samples from a PC to the EP133? As is, the drag'n'drop UI of the EP133 sample transfer app is not screenreader accessible. Also, many of the buttons on the app are unlabelled so cannot be read by a screenreader.
7) Does the EP133 have a song/scene-arranging mode?
8) Can I export finished patterns/songs via USB? How?
9) Is this the first in a line of POs-on-sterroids? If so, please combine the Robot, Arcade and Rhythm for a cool chiptune groovebox.
10) What does the "EP" stand for?
Here's a link to the guide. teenage.engineering/guides/ep-133 In regards to sample size (#2 on your list) I believe 20 seconds is the longest sample length. If you play multiple chords, for example, on a piano, it has an auto-chop feature that will separate each chord hit to a pad. I've seen this demoed with a synth pad, ie limited transient information and it worked very well. It has a gate so that it only starts sampling once the thresh hold has been passed. This way you don't need to trim the starting point.
I wholeheartedly second this request.
A chiptune groove box is exactly what I want
Gr8 overview, I’ll be back here when mine arrives. Cheers. Shame it doesn’t have resampling.
That and the very limited voice limit - which would have also been resolved by resampling. Genuinely don't understand what they were thinking with giving it so few voices.
@@robinr22 would definitely take polyphony over 99 patterns.
@@pongtrometer Absolutely. Don't get me wrong it still looks very cool but surely wouldn't have added much cost to increase the voice count.
@@robinr22 well ….live audio input for the performance fx, with audio via usb c, no doubt, the rest of the PO range will keep the shareholders happy, when they make any army of £299 per unit…
Can it work as a midi controller for time-based guitar pedal effects? I'm wondering whether it will sync with CBA Blooper or Habit.
It supports MIDI / Trig Sync Out so I don't see why not.
❤
Based on TE's other products I was gonna dislike this but the UI and price are quite good.
Hello 👋 pretty awesome, can you have a different sample on the same pad between pattern A.01 and A.02…Hope we can and are not stuck.
Samples are set per project, so you can't change them between patterns. You do have 4 groups with 12 samples each, so thats 48 samples you can load per project.
@@soundtechnology thanks for your quick reply, it’s true that 48 samples are enough, can each pad have different lenght or lenght are defined per groups ? Thanks sorry for another question 😅this machine is intriguing
@@jimijouk Each pad has its own settings for sample length, start point, end point, trigger behaviour and more. You can also change these globally with the fader for some interesting fx - but we'll dive into that on another vid!
Can you resample? Can you record automation of the punch in effects and fader moves?
You can't resample or record punch in FX, but you can automate the fader moves - I'll cover that soon.
Great tutorial 👌🏽, Have you noticed that using the Punch in effects when you press pad number eight and want to act in such a way that the pressure to change the way the effect works is not possible in this pad, perhaps this is a property of this effect?
Thank you! All of the punch-in fx should respond to pressure, including pad 8.
@@soundtechnology Did you try it on the 8 pad, because I didn't notice in any of the videos that it makes a difference ?
Amazing stuff! Who’s the player?
Cool, but can you export your creation in multitrack ?
No, but you can single out pads and groups to record one by one. Also the output compressor on this thing is great, so it might be worth considering committing that beat in stereo!
Any chance you can make a tutorial for someone who really doesn't know anything about this? Please explain what things are, how do they relate to what you are seeing on the screen, a little more step by step once again for someone who really doesn't know and is just starting to play with this tool, I think people who already have a basic understanding are getting the most out of this video.
The one question I have is the where to make a fleshed out song based off the scenes. Like can I have scene 3 play through twice then have it automatically jumpy to scene 1 to play one time through then automatically jump to scene 4?
I’m used to calling this feature “song mode” and you’re right, I don’t hear it being mentioned in any video I’ve seen so far. Maybe in a future update?
@@lavolka exactly. I think it’s pattern chaining in PO world. That is last thing I’m trying to figure out. Lol.
No song mode currently. You can extend your patterns and move between scenes manually, but you can also use MIDI with an arranger to write songs or perhaps even use program changes - but I haven't tried that yet!
K.O 2 is dope, I want one so bad but they're already sold out on their website
it only has 64mb mem bro for your 3fiddy
How do you delete a sample? Great video. I like the way it was presented. Easy to understand however it would have been nice to see slightly more in depth
In the sound menu, with the sample you want to delete selected, hold erase + sound buttons together. This will permanently erase the sample. You can also plug into a computer and use the EP Sample Tool to remove it. We've got more in-depth tutorials planned.
Does it have a filter?
Resampling? This unit looks really nicely designed
Each group has a Low Pass & High Pass filter that you can adjust with the fader. There's also the punch in LP & HP filters which go across the whole mix momentarily. And if you need, there's also a LP filter in the send effects.
I like the sound of that!! Do they sound good? I like this unit alot.. Can you loop samples? @@soundtechnology
How do you export the audio? Can it be broken down into parts?
You'll need to record it from the audio output, it doesn't have a bounce / export function for projects.
Great Tutorial! Anyone know if it does Panning? I don't see anything about it in the manual. Maybe in a firmware update?
Samples on pads can be panned, yes!
+ groups can be panned too
Does it time stretch the samples when playing polyphonically? Because I don't hear the samples get shorter when playing in the higher register.
Maybe the hype is making me hallucinate, haha.
There is a time stretch function, but I didn't use it with these samples. Generally the samples getting shorter as the notes get higher / longer as you get lower. The melodic samples you get pre-loaded often have a bit of release time to work with.
Does holding the pad down act as a beat repeat for the hats?
When you hold timing button + pad it'll repeat at the division you set in the timing menu
Lucky you, your FADER is WORKING !
The original bassline was great imo :P
I committed it to another scene somewhere...
Really nice work mate! Appreciate your work. But I still don´t get the Commit Function.. I don´t understand what its for
The commit function can feel a little complicated, but its basic function is to save a combination of patterns from each group.
How this is applied in workflow can get long winded to explain in writing (but I'll try it anyway!) It does make more sense as you start to use it.
Imagine scenes as sections of a song.
• Lets say Scene 1 = Intro, Scene 2 = Verse, Scene 3 = Verse variation.
• Scene 1 contains patterns A.01, B.01, C.01 and D.01
• Commit Scene 1 will save that combination and move on to Scene 2, which duplicates the pattern combo & pattern data.
• You can build your verse section in Scene 2, using the duplicated patterns or creating new ones without interfering with the intro. So now Scene 2 = A.02, B.02, C.02, D.02
• Commit this Scene and it duplicates to Scene 3. As this is the verse variation we want to maybe keep A.02 & B.02, but we could use C.03 and D.03 to change it up a bit.
•Commit Scene 3, and we're left with 3 scenes that we can now move between with different pattern arrangements.
•Pattern data remains constant between scenes, so if you change A.02 for example, this change will be present in both Scenes 2 & 3.
I hope this helps to understand it, but feel free to ask any more questions on it! :)
@@soundtechnology Oh wow, thanks for taking the time to write such a detailed explanation! So nice! It is much clearer for me now. Maybe you should write the manuals for synth brands 😄 Big thanks mate!
@@soundtechnology great explanation. is it like Resample on an sp404?
@@Pabstmear It is not like resampling on the SP404. Resampling captures the internal audio bus, where as Commit on EP-133 is saving pattern combinations and data - which is more like midi / note information.
Is there only one send fx which all samples had to share? Is resampling possible.
Thx a lot!
Just one send effect, yes. Currently no resample feature.
How would you sample yourself clapping your hands? It seems like you have to hold down a pad to start sampling to it, so you can only record sounds that can be made with one hand. Or am I missing something?
use your toes!
If you set the threshold right, you can place a weighted object (eg paperweight) on the button and it won't start recording until you make a sound above the threshold - like a loud clap. That's one way, or you can import sounds via USB-C. Or get a friend to clap / hold the button for you :)
My confusion is how do you change what type of sample that each sample is? It doesn't seem to let me use tye keys function on every sample , I assume like the old POKO that there's melodic and drum type samples , but how does this get controlled her3 ?
The sampler isn't split into 'melodic' or 'drum' samples like the OP-1 or PO-33. You should be able to enable 'keys' mode to play any sample chromatically / scaled on all pads.
In addition: Function + Sound (Edit) will bring you to your 3 sample playback modes under the 'SND' option: ONE, KEY or LEG. ONE is oneshot. KEY is the one you want for playing polyphonically. LEG is legato, allowing you to shift pitch without retriggering the sample (but still mono)
Can you set it to odd time signatures such as 5/4, 7/4 or 11/4?
Yes, I didn't show it in this video but its definitely possible.
Is possibile to “slidin” beetween keys? I want to make some uk drill beats with it so I need to slide on the bass 😂
If you're talking about portamento / glide - it can't do that currently. The work around would be recording fader automation on pitch or tune to create slides manually.
@@soundtechnology thanks for your answers, one last thing, after I record it I can manually change the values of the parameters “per step”, to be more “precise”? As in other Samplers (but) equipped with step sequencers?
And the fx is applicable just to the “master” (the whole thing)? Or also to the single samples?
Punch-in FX affect the whole output, Send FX allow you to set mix level per group.
How do you export the tracks to a DAW ?
You'll need to grab an interface and record them in. You can sync it up with MIDI to help keep everything locked in time with your project.
Already sold out! I ordered mine a few days ago. Looking forward to it. Hoping it helps keep me distracted from this upcoming Minneapolis winter.
