  • After 6 months of looking in the Richmond area, we finally found the perfect house for our family. It's got great bones, and needs a little updating to make it a home, and we are looking forward to every step in the process!

That basket weave floor pattern is a very Richmond thing. You'll see it a lot in old houses here.

Me, too! It is those small details that make things so special in a home!

So exciting! I love the kitchen sink window - it's on my dream kitchen list. Our current house was the one we drove up to and I knew it was the one. It didn't have (still doesn't, actually) a dishwasher, a garage, double pane windows...but I just knew it was meant to be ours.

I don't know what it is about that sink/window combo, but it is pretty dreamy. I love that you had a similar experience with your house intuition. It feels good to be certain!

I am amazed at how you can see such potential in things. We moved from Texas to the Richmond area about 5 years ago. We have been in our current home which is right outside Richmond about 3 years now and have always wanted to update our 1990 kitchen but just can't see what we could do with it. I can do the work if I could just get an idea of would it could be. Is there any way you would be able to come look at it and help me see what could be done?

Lovely place! Excited to see what you come up with! We’re moving to a new city/state and trying to decide if we should rent before buying or possibly live in our camper while we house/school/church search! Any advice? How long did you rent? We can only live in the camper for maybe 3 months max...me, husband, 3 boys plus a horse sized dog, may not be the most comfortable arrangement 😬

We loved having a chance to really get to know the area a bit before settling on a neighborhood. In fact, I know for sure we would have chosen differently had we not had some experience, and maybe missed out on what seems like a really cozy and wonderful block! We have been renting for 6 months so far and will likely stay put at least 3-4 more while we finish the major renovations on the new house. It works out--especially if you know it is temporary! Good luck!

    No garage???

Nope, they are actually really rare in the city of Richmond, because everything is historic and the weather is pretty mild. I like having a garage, but will make do for now!
