I've driven this car and I'll say this about the SPT - while I'd still rather have a traditional automatic (or a manual), it is shocking how good this CVT is compared to the CVTs Subaru was using just five years ago. Nobody would think it was a CVT if they didn't know any better.

I have this car. It’s very good. Not everyone wants to stuff around changing gears all day like a 16 year old especially if it’s a daily. The infotainment isn’t disappointing either for daily use, I miss it when I drive our other car. Does everything well, looks good, gets lots of compliments and would recommend it if someone wants a sporty car that handles amazingly.

@@R56Cooper The adaptive cruise control works great and will come to a complete stop if the car ahead does. It has settings as to quickly it will resume speed and what the distance should be. This is the exact spec WRX I bought.
My only complaint when it comes to many of the GT reviews is that I just wish there was a bit more of that testing to the limits of this transmission that the manual gets. Reviewers will typically just more-so dabble with it and the settings, touch the paddles a little bit if at all, and walk away underwhelmed, but don't push the car's limits the same way they do the manuals.
I was the biggest CVT hater before I drove this car and that's why I always glanced over the WRX. I have a disability that causes me to not drive stick so I'm very picky with the transmission.
I was originally trying to get another 86/BRZ for over a year but couldn't find one so eventually settled on this, and the only reason I gave the "SPT" a shot was more-so due to Subaru's "propaganda" versus too many reviews. Once I drove it I understood Subaru's mindset with this transmission and pretty much fell in love when I drove it the way it was meant to be driven.
I've gotten the chance to drive many cool cars with work, dual clutches and the like or just really good torque converters, and this is by far one of the best and on paper it definitely shouldn't be. Coming from someone who also owned a 10-speed Mustang, which is considered to be a very good transmission, I honestly choose this I think.
I've been watching your reviews for well over a decade, Sofyan (before Redline Reviews) and I always love them, so this is not to discredit you at all, but it is something I've noticed when it comes to many reviews from everyone with these types of transmissions versus the manual and it does make the car buying experience for someone like me with a physical disability a bit harder when I can't see the transmission I would have to buy really just dabbled with and many times have the reviewer come back and say "automatic bad, buy manual" and not much else, which definitely wasn't as much you in this case as you did at least have some good feedback on your experience but I'm looking forward to seeing you really push the car to its limits once you're able to get one back home.
Again, love all the reviews! Stay great. 🤙

same. I would have gotten the manual, but we only have one car, and my partner hard vetoed another manual. I absolutely love the suspension, steering and adjustable center diff the GT gets and when driven hard in Sport+ the car is a totally different animal to the manual WRX.
I really really want someone to do a proper hard tract test with a GT and to do a head-to-head between a GT and a Limited on a track. I kinda think no one has because they are afraid of the results. There's no question that the SPT has more drivetrain loss so slightly less horsepower and torque at the wheels, but the adjustable suspension, steering and center diff are so much better that the manual cars , not to mention the speed of the shifts in "Sport+", the two additional ratios, and the ability for the transmission to actually behave like a true CVT (hold revs at peak torque while continuing to accelerate) under certain circumstances, that I think a GT would likely beat a Limited around a track

the digital instrument cluster is absolutely pointless and stupid because Subaru just programed it to look exactly like the normal physical cluster with no additional functionality, its literally the exact same just LCD
memory seats are fantastic if you share the car but pointless if you are the only driver
usb-c is whatever (but lack of wireless CarPlay/android auto is very disappointing)
heated rear seats would be nice but again not a big deal
"F1 brake light" is just a rear fog light, either on or off, that's it. It's required in most of the rest of the world, and most cars that integrate it into the normal taillights still have them in the US (Mercedes, BMW, Volvo etc)
rear wiper on a sedan is whatever.
No one gives a crap about a pedestrian airbag because no one thinks they will hit a pedestrian. It's the kind of thing that costs a lot of money and does not influence sales at all so is only ever included when mandated by govt. regulations.
They could have easily sold an exact copy of the S4 in the US but it would have been a $50k+ car and no one is going to pay that for a WRX

    just some comments:
the car defaults to "sport" when you start it and is where most people probable spend most of the time
"Comfort" and "normal" use the same engine and transmission tunning, with the transmission using six virtual ratios.
The only difference between "normal" and "sport" is the engine/transmission tuning, with the throttle map a little more aggressive and the transmission using eight virtual ratios.
"Sport+" uses a very aggressive engine and throttle map and the transmission likes to hold revs, uses engine braking and aggressively downshifts.
Something no one seems to ever mention though is the adjustable center differential the GT gets.
On the manual cars it's a normal viscous open diff with 50f/50r torque split, but the SPT cars get a planetary gear diff with hydraulic clutch that defaults to 45f/55r torque split. However, on the GT when you set AWD to "sport" it changes the default torque split to 30f/70r, and honestly is a better center diff for non track use than the DCCD

I've got a '16 WRX Sport-Tech (CVT - yes, I know, but it was meant to be a city car). Subaru impressed me by standing by their CVT with a 10yr, 160k kms warranty. I'm at only 90k kms & yes, my transmission is about to be replaced under that warranty. A few things went wrong with it under warranty, like the barely used air conditioning & stock battery. Out of warranty, the transmission harness & a few suspension components had to be replaced.
Subject to who likes them or not, I find my car looks great from the front, but 'mom jeans' from the back.
The AWD system is fantastic. In snow, you can drift your bawls off & have a great time.
Would I buy another one? Not a chance.
I don't think Subaru care capable of producing a reliable engine. I've had probs for years - it would burn oil (synthetic oil since the factory spat it out), it would run rough even after warming up, and to come up with 268 hp, reliability-plagued twin-scroll turbochargers are just too much complexity for what you get. The paddle-shifting is very accurate & aggressive & I can get a better quarter mile than my friend's identical 6spd.
I had Hondas most of my young life, so I knew when I stepped over to Subaru, that I'd be taking a bigger reliability risk but getting some power & a proper AWD system. I know the '23 isn't easy to look at, but hey it's none of my business what other people think of the car's appearance, I'm not in the age range of the target audience.
My main gripe is power/torque. With gas at such ridiculous prices, I know that every time I floor it, it's costing me $5, and though I'd lose handling advantages, I think it's time for an EV. This sub-300hp & turbocharged complexities & gas guzzling, archaic tech, it's run its course. Sub-300hp is no longer impressive. I know the limitations of real WRC cars make them < 300hp, but they weigh nothing & are million dollar supercars. 271hp is not enough anymore. It's boring. You want to void your warranty on a complex engine by modding it to eke out another 30 100hp, you're richer than I am, congrats, I hope you have fun. But I want some REAL power now.
Kia EV6 GT puts out what, 580hp? Apples & oranges, maybe, and the look of the Kia EV6 is so incredibly ugly & tacky, I'm amazed anyone buys one. Still, even a boring old Tesla Y can put out 480hp. The days of gas-guzzling, noisy, complex, beyond-warranty, turbocharged engines are soon ending. It's like a steampunk defibrillator - you can make it complex, but why bother, and what if it breaks.
271hp is silly. 25yrs ago it might have been impressive, but now, it's just a financial timebomb.

That said, this powertrain is totally Outdated! It needs a Hybrid package to give it that "Rocket-Off-The-Line" torque feeling you can Only get from an electric motor. The Hybrid would also improve that horrible MPG while also greatly improving the HP and 0 to 60 numbers.

The SPT is a solid transmission. Just drive one. Their failure rate is quite similar to other "Geared" Transmissions. And you Have Warranty. Problem with throwing in a different transmission.... Is that Awd system. Subaru's is Unique, unlike other companies, Patented. The company prioritizes balance with their specific awd layout. No main components Offset, to achieve max stability in risky road conditions. You're now messing with the dimensions and internal layout, balance, and safety numbers. Not everything "fits" well with their Awd config. Not saying it isn't possible, but You need money. With the race to Battery powered cars and Emission standards, how much money do you think Subaru has if Toyota Owns 20 Percent. Subaru is still considered small. The company should be doing nothing else but getting sales and growing, So they CAN create the WRX/STI they think about when drawing the sketches. Compliancy and Emissions laws, That Holds Back all companies. Its all about how much you can pay for. Subaru excels at offering safe, adventurous cars at Such a Price in this "Plandemic" Economy.
Still throwing out car's in the 30-40k range while other companies are giving you 50k corollas on 7% interest, with the same level of interior plush?? That price, safety and performance is a win for young working people.

This Subaru Performance Transmission is a huge swing and miss on many levels. The worst thing about it is, this “performance” transmission is no faster than the manual, which almost entirely defeats the purpose of an automatic in a performance car, to say nothing of how offensive a CVT is in a performance car.
I’d be far less offended by this car if they used a DCT, or even a regular automatic. Honestly, I’d take Subaru’s 5-speed auto before I take a CVT. Better yet the Aisin 8-speed auto would work great as well. At least a regular automatic would be less fragile in case you want to tune your WRX.
