They fixed the heated seats control via an over the air update. System is still laggy. Driving the GT in S+ mode with the adaptive dampers and SPT tuning completely transforms the nature of the car. I have about 17.5 K miles on my ‘22. No regrets. My previous two Subarus were STIs. This is my 7th Subaru. Started with the 2002 WRX bugeye. Love these cars.
That's great to hear! Glad you're enjoying it.
I also started with a bugeye...how does it compare to your most recent STI? I'm assuming a VA?
@@elenchus The bugeye was lighter and nimble, but had more body roll. The 2.0 liter was high revving. The STI felt stiffer and more race car like.
@@AlanAnt Would you say this is your favorite of all of them?
@@elenchus No. My 3 favorites were my first, a 2003 WRX, my 2018 STI Ltd, and my current 2024 BRZ tS, but I still have the 2022 WRX GT and I still love it. It’s my daily. The BRZ is Subaru number 8.
Thank you! Finally someone who doesn't shit on the SPT. This is what i tried to tell people but they still wanna believe that they're trash. I want one so bad but i have a 2019 Civic hatch that i need to pay off first.
It's really great in this!
just got my wife a 23 GT for 39k and 0% APR lol. the SPT is amazing, seriously a marvel of engineering and im a manual transmission purist.
I agree! And congratulations!
Last year I got so excited with the EV hype, that I bought a VW ID4 for the family. It is a good moment to buy one today, cause they are dirt cheap in China right now.
Problem is, I've noticed I missed the old school ICE features and all its problems and perks. So I wanted to buy a car that has as much analog tech as possible, while being new. And this is when I've found out about the new WRX.
Seems to me the people at Subaru realised there is a market for a car that brings the best the old technology can offer and they specifically made a car for such people.
While doing this, they also made it much more practical for dads with a family like me.
The rear seats are heated, the seat heating also remembers the most current position (very practical for remote engine start). They just did exactly what I needed.
And yes many reviews point out that this engine is very much under-stressed, and there is a lot of potential in it.
Well, thats also very good, we can get back to it once the warranty runs out. Lets see where it takes us.
Overall I am very happy with this car.
Its also very reliable in difficult road conditions, its very forgiving for driver mistakes, and can take the driver out of almost any mess he/she might get into. Just push the pedal more and do whats needed.
I am always excited about my daily commute to work, and I even sometimes take it for a ride on my way home. Its that good and enjoyable.
For a more balanced opinion, I have to say my fuel efficiency is not particularly good. Its probably my driving style and rather short trips, but I don't care, its worth every penny.
I just ordered a '24 GT as my single dad but still want fun sedan, now I need to wait until January for it to ship from Japan!
biggest let down that made me pass on this car was that giant tablet. I'm not a fan of the cladding or rear end, but those can be fixed with the aftermarket at least. Subaru went all in with the tablet screen, but then didn't follow up with making sure it runs properly. Slow to respond, crashes, etc. They need someone to figure out the software and speed up the processing power.
Great review! I am happy you tested the GT and gave a positive review. Too much hate for the cvt and also the auto. I have heard great things but rarely in reviews and I just think some of those reviewers are far too biased and can't separate their reviews from other cars they have test recently with different trannys. I also do like the looks now. Happy that Subaru is somehow evolving the car, even in ways that kind of surprise us at first. Seems we generally end up liking it lol! Anyway, the basics of a Subaru and the WRX, a flat four and AWD are well developed by now for sure! FYI, I bought the very first 2002 WRX hatchback in blue...was an amazing car. I heavily modified it by the time I sold it. One of the reasons I sold it(and it was hard to let go of!!!), was because I lived in LA and got so tired of shifting and killing my legs everyday, lol! I look forward to testing one at some point. Hope the prices stay low and also that this insane inflation takes a turn very soon! Keep up the good work. I hope you test a GTR which is truly my fave car at the moment. Also, sadly supposedly in its last year in its current form!
Thank you very much! Jealous you owned a 2002 in blue, that's still one of my dream cars! I genuinely liked the GT a lot. It's a great car!
@@jasonbellcars Yes, it was seriously a lovely specimen when I got through with it! Everything was modified for the better! A real looker!
16:11 "Here is a little acceleration if I just floor it here" ....... and a police car to your left.
Haha, I noticed that! Too funny.
I actually like the bumper because my past vehicles all had paint chips on the bumper from daily parking in the city.
This is a very solid review. I got the new Prius but I am planning on swapping it for this. I was torn from the start. Knowing the MPG on the highway isn’t that bad, makes me much less concerned.
It's way better than expected!
Great review! I got my 23 GT a year ago for $3,500 under MSRP. For $40k, this car offers a lot of value. I love it.
Couldn't agree more!
Can’t beat a Subie ❤
Question for you Jason Bell Cars or anyone who owns a VB WRX; Is this programmed to take 87octane, like that of the Outback/Ascent with the same 2.4L engine?
I believe premium is required.
Per Subaru manual the Wrx can use 87 octane and no harm is done to the engine. Premium is not required.
You should have gone over the different settings for steering and dampening .
Yeah, I honestly spaced that. Steering you can feel a difference. Dampening -- not so much.
How's the adaptive suspension, I live in NYC a friend owns the fa WRX stock and I just get thrown around in that thing around here with the terrible roads we have. Does gt's adaptive suspension make that much of a difference, want a WRX but don't think my back can take the harsh ride anymore
Driving around LA in the softest setting was definitely livable. I wouldn't go so far as to say it was cushy, but it did feel slightly more compliant than the 2022 Limited WRX I tested recently. You may also want to check out the Civic Si -- still way fun but not as harsh.
@@jasonbellcarsthink if I replaced the run flat tires with regular ones plus the adaptive dampers it'll me more of a comfy ride? The si is nice just not enough performance for the price
@@samzilla1050I've got khumo all-seasons on my GT, huuuuge difference in comfort vs. The factory summer tires, I've left them on since last winter and love it
@@robertfennimore1869awesome, thanks rob
Great car but every trim is over priced by about 4-5K. I would only consider the Limited or GT. If the MSRP of the GT was around 38-39K after taxes and fees instead of 44K I'd consider it.
Needs a rear spoiler
Currently in the planning stages of getting a new car ( originally from England and have a 2010 mazda3 sport GT with the 2.5 and 6MT). Have been checking out the specs in the Canadian market and have to say that if the WRX GT came with a sunroof and 6MT it would ideal for an old wiggly stick warrior like myself. (or this suspension came on a different MT model). The other 2024 manual trim models just don’t do it for me. The only other one of interest would be the Golf R but 24 is the last year of the manual 😢. Hopefully next year the specs change to a manual GT, or the STI returns. Either that or it’s a used R!
Check out the WRX TR! It's a lot like the GT but with a manual.
@@jasonbellcars My mistake, looks like the GT has a sunroof but it’s not available on the TR. If I can’t have the adaptive suspension, sunroof and 6MT I will have to pass on the WRX. Hopefully there will be changes to the equipment specs in future years.
Didn’t like it at all at first, but it grew on me to where it’s actually really cool now! I don’t know why that is but it looks cool. Because it’s kind of like a off-road look . I don’t know if they changed something maybe or I just change my mind. I don’t know.!😂🚗
It has gotten better with time, for sure!
Wish they would put the Brembo brakes and make this a real top trim.
That would be great.
The 2024 WRX TR has Brembos.
@@kevinhobbs1832 It's not automatic.
I just don’t like the rear end. Can always paint match the fender flares
It is a little weird, for sure.
Just make it a hatchback
That would be great!
cool review and all. But man, your head. You dont have a 4-head. You sir, have a 5-head.
Yes. It’s great for reflecting things.
@@jasonbellcars 😂
CVT WTF
It's actually not bad!
