I was excitedly waiting for a new video of yours to come out! I've been eyeing the Supernote since 2021 and even tried buying it at some point but they don't deliver to Brazil, sadly. @@bencrystalofficial Thanks! How does the weiting feel? Pencil? Pen? I prefer the feel and sound of a ball point or gel pen to paper, but hate the pencil on paper feel/sound.
I saw (and heard) her draw the underline and I am trying to figure out if the sound was like pencil on paper or if it was like a pen while you're writing on a clipboard with one or two sheets of paper. If it's the clipboard, I could live with that.
She did tell me in a comment that she's able to write lightly and it feels like a pen to her. I write a little heavy so I'm curious about your experience.
If it's pencil, I think I'll pass on this. But I love their business model and I'd hate to dismiss the product over a pencil-type feel. But on the other hand, I've always hated pencil on paper. I'm conflicted. 😂
@@wheelch0ck I find it quite nice so far, but I haven't used it a ton! I'd say it feels, sounds, and glides at a 70/30 split between a Pilot G2 and a Generals 2H drawing pencil on a Moleskin. I write very light to be fair but it's pretty quiet when I do press down hard. I haven't used a clipboard in like a decade so I don't really remember. I primarily have used mechanical pencils when I was in college and grad school but have been all digital for the past few years so all of mine are broken right now, but I'd imagine it's closer to halfway between that and a pen than a regular pencil. It feels very smooth but tactile enough to not slip on the page on the new screen material.
@@bencrystalofficial Thank you for the feedback and descriptions. I know exactly what you mean as I used mechanical pencils in undergrad and grad school also; so I can relate to that.
Although, with all of my typos in my previous comment, it probably didn't even cross your mind (sorry about that). I even had a graphing pencil (0.3mm) for my engineering and math classes. Your pen comparisons helped a lot as well. Instead of a clip board, I guess I could've given the example if one or two sheets of paper on a desk for comparison's sake.
I've searched and searched and couldn't get a definitive answer. I'd love to see if there's a Nook app in the SN app store. My ebook collection has gone back to around 2005 and the Windows Mobile days. So most of my collection is through B&N and their Nook app, which is optimized for e-ink like Kindle is. Lack of the Nook app is not a big deal for me; I'm just hoping to not have to repurchase or start another library in another app.
If that is the case, it looks like I'll have to learn how to remove the DRM from the epub and physically store a copy on the device for strictly my own personal use.

I can't wait for the A5 X2! I've been very tempted to get the A6 X2 Nomad, but I have really big hands, and I know I would regret not waiting. 😅
As someone with smaller hands, hand size is the reason I bought an A6X as my first e-ink note-taking tablet even when the reviews at the time liked it less--so I get it!

I had the SN A5X then sold it and got the RM2. I've had that for a little bit, but while I like the writing feel of the RM2, I miss the SN, to be honest. Maybe I'll pick up the new one.

EDIT: I got mine. I gotta say: It does not feel like paper AT ALL. It feels like etching text into some kind of slightly rough ceramic surface. Very often when I try to put a dot on an i, no dot appears and I have to press much harder than I expect. In general, I have to press much much harder so that the lines appear. Will have to see if I can get used to this, but at a very first glance, this device seems like a step back.
What pen/nib are you using? I find I'm able to write just fine with the ceramic nib pen, and the Kindle Scribe premium pen, and make dots/marks with either even when I'm just holding lightly by the end and dragging/not pressing down. I would encourage you to try out other pens, and maybe send feedback to Ratta if you run into the same issue as maybe they can give advice or tell you if it's an issue with that specific unit
@@pixelleaves I'm using the Heart Of Metal Pen 2. I have now upgraded to the latest software and it seems that the screen is suddenly much more sensitive. My complaint might be resolved.
@@mbrochh82 I've just had mine. I found at first I needed to use a little more pressure. Don't know if it was the update or whether I just adjusted to writing on the new screen but the new pen feels much the same as before.
@@pams4401 yea after the update it also suddenly felt OK for me again as well.
You're the first one to post a video! And as always, it contained great info! I was left with no choice but to hold out for the A6X2 because the previous version was already sold out. Either way, I probably would've held out anyway because I love the idea of going back to reusable batteries (and SD cards).
With the FeelWrite2, how does it compare to pen on paper? I know you described it briefly in your video. But as someone who hates pencil on paper and its sound and feel, but prefers the smooth/relatively soundless writing from a quality pen, how does it compare to the real thing? I ask only because I heard the underline that you drew in your video, and it almost caused me to not order it.
Depends on how smooth you’re talking, I think! If you’re a fan of a really smooth, wet writer of a fountain pen on very smooth paper then this might feel like a tad too much texture. I will say the super fine nib and capacity to write with light pressure prevents it from feeling like a pencil for me personally.

I would at least get a sleeve-a sleeve for an iPad mini (6?) may fit, you would have to double check!

Honestly still getting used to it! So far, I think it’s a long-awaited improvement for many who found the original too slick
@@pixelleaves I just received the FW2 today but I won't be home for a few days, so I'm still gathering more info if I really want to install it. I've used the Doodroo on my Note Air 1 and really love it. On the other hand I do find the FW1 too slick at least with the HOM 1. That's why I bought the new film. I wonder if I find the courage to install it ;-)
Do you see any difference with the display? The Doodroo is grainier and you can somewhat see that, so the display appears a tiny bit hazier (?). On an LED screen a paperlike film was too grainy, a different brand was just fine.
Appreciate your reviews, thank you. Question if I may, how is the writing feel compared to the remarkable. Owned a 1st gen supernote, the user experience was the holy grail compared to the competition, I know it’s personal preference, but I did prefer the remarkable writing feel, although bit frustrated with the user experience. Unfortunately do not have a Remarkable, but do have a Scribe which I’ve heard has a similar writing feel. Definitely not the same as the SN, the texture of the film adds friction but because of the material (it has some give) it’s still not hard and scratchy like pencil to paper.
Do you think you would be an upgrade over the remarkable 2? I love the look and feel the remarkable, but kinda tired of replacing nibs
Remarkable doesn’t ship to my country so I have no first-hand experience with it, but I generally think if you’re satisfied with the user experience of a device there’s no need to upgrade!
Have you noticed better responsiveness and contrast from a newer Eink version?
I suppose it’s snappier, but no difference in contrast as far as I can tell
Did you ask Supernote when A5X2 is coming? I heard Q1 but Q1 is very long. Also do you know how does annotating EPUB work on Supernote devices? I am thinking about ditching kindle as a reading device entirely.
I had not! I demo epub annotating in other video/s but I have to say I personally prefer reading ebooks for pleasure (no note taking) on a Kindle over on my Supernote or Boox
Does the screen edge have a bump around the edge or is the screen flush all the way through?
The screen protector doesn’t come up 100% flush but the difference feels like

I'm stuck on this, waiting for the larger version as I need to view a fair amount of PDFs and just going for the Boox Air 3, monochrome version. Ideally I would wait, but it may take Ratta a while. Oh the dilemmas and first world problems!
Fwiw I still believe Boox PDF handling is the best among the major e-ink tablet makers, so you won’t regret it I think!

The pen with the cap is an old Heart of Metal pen, the one that arrived with this Nomad is the new Push-Up pen (clicky pen).

Well not much changes with A6X!
I think the major ones are the second touch bar, and auto rotate, but Ratta have said before they want to keep the software as close to the same as possible. I don’t think a satisfied A6X user necessarily needs to think about upgrading at all right now!
A quick note, Super note is one the worst low-quality devices i have ever used, the screen will have faults after a few months of use, the pen is not quality as they say and you will have to replace it in 3-4 months of use, and guess what! its very expensive, they have no real support and actually, they don't care to do so after selling you, Buying it was the biggest mistake I made.
That has certainly not been my experience.
The 2021 A6X I show still works, as does the A5X (and pen) I got last year, so that hasn’t been my experience. Additionally the Nomad ships with a two-year warranty, which I forgot to mention in the video.
Editing to add people have posted good experiences with their CS (even out of warranty) on Reddit and the user Facebook group-both communities I would encourage people to check out before or after buying to get a sense of the community and other peoples’ experiences :)
