Wow. Just wow. Between the 2022 video you did and this one, I am absolutely sold on Supernote. You've done such an amazing job capturing the features of the device and alleviated my concerns as well. Thank you so much! I was wondering what i should get between the Remarkable, Boox, or Supernote and this company seems to be the most in-touch with their community and what it is they want. It's fantastic to see. Again, you have my thanks. Now just to decide on the Nomad, or the up and coming A5X(2?) for size options. ;) Also, the fact that I went from not being interested in an e-ink device a few months ago to feeling it was the right next purchase over the last few days, to just tonight jumping online and digging into the details only to find that you posted this video only 5 days ago?! Serendipitous to say the least!
I second this!! By far my favorite e-ink tablet video; it gave me peace of mind about which device I wanted to pull the trigger on. Since there isn't a way to try these products out in-store, this video was invaluable. No doubts. Thank you!
I'm about to buy a supernote next week when I get paid, but I don't know whether to wait as I don't know what new features are going to be on the next version.. what should I do?

Just ordered my Nomad today; can't wait for it ship on the 10th! I'd always used an iPad for my notes & poems, but with my ADHD, the iPad was a recipe for disaster getting notifications that always were pulling me away from my notes 😅. I've been interested in e-ink tablets for awhile and initially thought about getting the A6X back in October, then starting hearing about the Nomad, and can't wait for it to get here. I love using fountain pens, moreso the heavier-set ones. There was a mention of fountain pen use and comparing that to the Nomad feel of writing in a previous video, which sold me on getting it. Ordered myself a HOM2 pen to go along with it. Can't wait to get immersed in my writing again! LOVE the videos! Can't wait for what else you put out down the road! 😁
@katau5956 I think it's a great tablet for sure. I use it mainly for any study notes that I take for school or projects. It was hard for me to truly get into using it, as I prefer just normal fountain pen/pencil and paper for my journaling and every day notes.

Lovely device, I'm always tempted to get one but i have some concerns about the lack of front light and the fact that I can run android apps on my boox (though frankly i don't use them THAT much). On the other hand the SN experience seems more streamlined and focussed, and that's a big pro. You videos are always super interesting, keep up you great work and thank you for the hyperpaper link, I'm torn between various planners since i would like to start using one of them, but I don't know which one would perfectly fit my needs (the free one which i already know? Supernote has now finished supporting the A5X with certain accessories, so now I can't get a portfolio for it with the larger Lamy pen holder. So factor that in as they clearly don't support for half as long as you are going to have the item.
I'm a reMarkable 2 user with the type folio keyboard, and have been very impressed with the device quality and attention to detail that has gone in to its design. But I'm starting to think Supernote are doing a much better job of the software and workflow support, at least for my use case which is reading, annotating and idea generation in a research and design context. The A6X2 is a little small for my liking, so I'm really waiting for the A5X2 to come out.. I read on Reddit that there may be an announcement this week...
You convinced me to get the Supernote. I’m just back and forth if I should wait for the A5X2 or get the Nomad. Some complained that the Nomad is too small for note taking. What’s your experience with the size?
The RAM boost is one of the primary reasons I'm waiting for the A5X2. RAM is cheap, but it has a massive impact. These manufacturers need to shove as much RAM as the form factor will fit.
I always laugh when manufacturers try to justify 2xing the cost of a device for a version with more RAM and storage when it only incrementally increases production cost.
Hello - thank you for the detailed video. The reason that I want to buy this device is taking notes and converted to text, and then share with others. Ah, sorry for misspeaking! I'll clarify it in the CC. You're right I did mean internal storage not RAM, but I hope people don't get confused since it's not a RAM module/stick
I'm not sure how long nowadays (I believe the crystal ones have a bit of a wait) so it's best to check the subreddit as people post when they ordered/received their devices at the moment. cc @koto9x
Hi I wanted to ask about the battery life? How many hours or days does it last? I know it depends on the personal use and I wanted to know how long it lasts you per single charge and on average how many hours do you use it per day? I’m thinking of using it for 3-5 hours a day. Love the video by the way!
Hey Pixel! Another great video! I hope Ratta is showing you some love! You're a one-person sales team for them! 😉 How do you find the new pen? I got a second hand A5X with the basic pen and want to get something a little more robust. The push up pen is the cheapest option but as I need to buy a pen anyway, would you recommend it?
The push up pen is like a regular plastic clicky pen in that I wouldn't describe it as more robust, it's lighter than the old standard pen. I really like it but I know it's pretty polarizing! You could try the Lamy twin (twist) pen if you want something capless but still with the ceramic nib
I quite like it personally! I've seen it referred to once on the subreddit as janky, but tbh I have attempted to DIY something similar in the past with Pilot and other light plastic pen bodies so it's right up my alley. For people who want something heavier and more "premium" in feel I would suggest the HOM2
Cool. That’s what I was thinking. Thank you! My one hesitation is that it seems louder (there’s a clicking when writing, I think?) than the heart of metal 2 but I love the idea of a push pen! So I think I’m gonna go for it. It helps to hear what you think.

Thanks a lot for this wonderful and extensive review. This has been the most insightful review I've seen on Supernote. One question though, how does the Kindle app compare on Supernote with that of a Kindle Scribe experience? Things like turning the page (does it have the page turn animation?), X-ray and popular highlights, and can you write on the pages?
So happy to see a new video! I would definitely get a Supernote if I could, but can't in my country. Had to get BOOX instead. Would you consider trying to make a video on using Note Air 2 with Obsidian now that the BOOX software has been significantly improved? Really loved your Obsidian + Supernote video but it's not easy applying that to Note Air 2. Also, have a great new year!
I prefer keeping Obsidian to my laptop, so I think my IRL workflow would be very similar still (using Boox-exported PDFs). That said I agree some of the features of the newest firmware are very impressive, particularly the AI functions!
Hello, thank you very much for your videos! They're really clear and instructive. Can you describe your experience of reading epubs on the A6x2? Is there a video where you describe this experience and compare it to reading on a Kindle Sribe, for example? I'm very interested in buying a Supernote but I'm afraid of losing the reading experience I have with the Kindle. Hello, thank you very much for your videos! Hi, thanks for sharing your experience with the Supernote A6X2. I have an A6X, do you think it would be worth upgrading to a new version or is there not much difference in practice?
Right now the main differences during use in my opinion (auto rotate, the second slide bar/new gestures) aren't enough to make me recommend an upgrade necessarily. If you're satisfied with your A6X's performane I suggest just hanging on to it first! Maybe if the firmware features diverge more in the future, my views might change
Thanks for the review. I wonder about long-term use. Like if the company was down, the SN device was down, how could we keep the notes? For example, if I use Obsidian and markdown, even when the software and the company went out of business, I would still have access to my notes.
The notes are stored on the device (cloud is just for backup) and conversion etc. can be used fully offline after initial activation-notes are in a proprietary format though so you would need to export them to read off-device.
I am pretty confused as to where the bad reviews are. I wanted to love the supernote and I do sometimes but I've been a user for 1.5 years and after 1 year had to replace my device because it had so many problems. (getting stuck on the same page for days, had to wait for it to die. or not turning on randomly for a few days, and this causes so much commossion as all my daily schedules are on it etc) and I emailed supernote, they replaced the old one.. and noe my new one that I have been using for 3 months does the same thing... Now I will have to change to another brand but I am confused why no one talks about this. I feel like the technology on it is from 10 years ago.
Glib answer: Where? On the Goodereader UA-cam. Real answer: I actually think there a fair amount of gripes expressed on the subreddit, to the point where some new users go on it and point it out. It unfortunately also might just be luck of the draw (as my original A6X from 2021 still works just fine). Add to that, this is still pretty niche technology and I have different expectations from, say, an iPhone. Imo e-ink as a technology suffers greatly from one company holding basically all the patents, and I'm hopeful we'll see more advancement in the coming years as those expire.
I see a lot of books in French, I’ve been learning for the past few months and I am completely drowning in handwritten notes with very limited organisational skills.. Would you recommend the A6X2 for someone like me? My use-case is mostly taking notes on new words that I learn with a translation next to it. Thanks for your videos!
I think so! Although honestly I've tried many flashcard, study etc systems for vocabulary and nothing has seemed to beat just reading a lot and having one notebook with interesting phrases written down in it. :)
How is it as an ereader? I think Ratta is a great company that respects its users (support), but I am not sure if the supernote is for me as I would like to use it as an e-reader (epubs) and note taking
I have been looking for the right digital notebook and looking thru plenty of models such as Remarkable 2, Kobo, Fujitsu, etc. But so far, this Supernote has caught my attention the most and looks like it's the right one for me. Have you used the A5X? I know this is a newer model, but I am wondering if the bigger screen is worth it.
Yes, I have (and have other 10.3” tablets too)! I think it’s definitely worth getting a bigger size for heavy viewing/annotating of PDFs with small text and if you are used to larger (e.g. composition size) notebooks. I have a video comparing the A6X size to standard size paper notebooks on my channel if that helps get a sense of scale!
Thanks for new videos. Do you have any idea if there will be A5X2? Or the current A5X is just as good enough in terms of software update and hardware? I too would love a huge screen. I almost 😅 buy the Boox Note Air3 C because of the Android 13. However, the way they release many devices in a year and not focusing so much on features updates somewhat bothers me. And the Supernote Pens looks great. 🥰 So I’m not in a hurry to splurge.
@@memori365there will for sure be an A5X2 (the A5X isn’t even available anymore at the moment). For any tech I always recommend waiting as long as possible! For Boox in particular, I suggest getting on their Facebook group/subreddit for advice on when a good time to buy is
@@memori365 A5X2 should be coming out in Q1 of this year, so before the summer. I'm happy with that size over the A6. I think there's not too much of a difference if you can't wait that long between A5X and A5X2 since software features should go to both devices
@7:25 - for me I must make notes in weekly & separately in monthly view as they do not show between views. For you its working or you just made it twice but very hand-written similar so it seems like one???
Really depends on use-for reading PDFs in particular I like the bigger size, and that’s the one I keep parked at my desk. For everything else, meeting and other notes, language learning, planning, I love the smaller size since the size of the whole device is very similar to the paper notebooks I was using for those things before. The A5/A6 (Linux based) devices had split screen and I’m optimistic when they make Linux available for the X2 range they’ll bring it back. Fingers crossed!
If you mean the blue one it’s a Lamy EMR pen top half screwed to the body of a regular Lamy pen. Thanks for reminding me to link to it as I usually get asked about it, updated the description! :)
Do you offer a paid service to setup a new supernote for others with all the tools that you have found useful. I would like to pay for this assistance rather than the laborious task of learning it all.
You mention wishing that you could have a note as a screensaver. Have you tried setting auto sleep and auto power off to never. This will keep your last note you are working on visible and if you have wifi turned off doesn't affect battery life too much.
My auto sleep setting is in hours and my auto power off is set to never, I am offline unless I’m syncing and the A5X and A6X2 have a power-saving feature called no-load shutdown which reduces battery consumption if you’re not writing on the screen. However battery consumption is still not as good as fully asleep. Some users might also not like that your device is by necessity fully unlocked (whereas if someone tried to wake from sleep they would have to enter a PIN if you had one set for security). I’m convinced it’s a missed opportunity especially given the focus on productivity and the aims to essentially replace paper, having your agenda or other notes on your desk for reference throughout the day is a fairly common use case.
@@whataboutkijust explaining what settings I used since you asked if I’d tried them-then figured I would expound for people who might be browsing the comments, since I didn’t mention the no-load shutdown etc in the video :)
I use Obsidian mainly for storing/organizing typewritten notes and other material, for instance my video scripts are typed up on Obsidian after my ideation is done on my SN, each is linked to a Kanban board with ideas in various stages of development. Another example of how I split it is I’m working on learning another language this year and am slowly building out an MOC on Obsidian with resources, links to media, grammar concepts etc-but plan to use the A6X2 for ebooks and annotations, processing ideas, writing practice and the Goldlist method. Hope that helps! It really depends on what work/study you’re engaging in, I’m more output focused.
Welcome back, @@pixelleaves . Would be cool to see more content on the Nomad. Use cases / workflows like the above would be quite useful as video clips too. I ordered a Nomad (my first e-ink writer) the other day. Haven't even gotten hold of it yet and already find your content (even the old ones) quite useful.
Some time ago I used Supernote and Obsidian together through an export library I found in Github. My workflow was like this: - Sync the Supernote notes to the cloud - Download them to my computer - Use the program to export all notes not to PDF, but to several single images (svg) in a directory in Obsidian. Then I can reference the images in the Obsidian notes. I experimented with it for a while, but I couln't get used to it. Today I do something simpler, I use both, Obsidian and Supernote on my desk. Supernote to do the free-form thinking. At some point, I want to add digested thoughts to Obsidian, so I: - Use supernote screen sharing - Open my browser and screenshot the image, to copy paste in the Obsidian note.
It is black and white; to be more precise it’s different styles (light gray, dark gray, striped) as I show on the screen. I’ll edit the CC accordingly to be more precise :)
A6X2 writing feel is significantly worse than A5X. The new screen loses feel of pen on paper of A5X and does not feel like pencil on paper. It is much more resistant to pen strokes.

How long did the delivery take? i ordered and followed up but they didn't informed me how long it will take, and i'm excited to try them soon!
Same. SCAM
I'm not sure how long nowadays (I believe the crystal ones have a bit of a wait) so it's best to check the subreddit as people post when they ordered/received their devices at the moment. cc @koto9x
Great video!! I'm definitely waiting for the A5X2 (due its size) :) Thanks!
Hi I wanted to ask about the battery life? How many hours or days does it last? I know it depends on the personal use and I wanted to know how long it lasts you per single charge and on average how many hours do you use it per day? I’m thinking of using it for 3-5 hours a day.
Love the video by the way!
How did you get your composition screen saver? Great comparison!
Hey Pixel! Another great video! I hope Ratta is showing you some love! You're a one-person sales team for them! 😉
How do you find the new pen? I got a second hand A5X with the basic pen and want to get something a little more robust. The push up pen is the cheapest option but as I need to buy a pen anyway, would you recommend it?
The push up pen is like a regular plastic clicky pen in that I wouldn't describe it as more robust, it's lighter than the old standard pen. I really like it but I know it's pretty polarizing! You could try the Lamy twin (twist) pen if you want something capless but still with the ceramic nib
Thank you! @@pixelleaves 🙌
How about Palm Rejection to avoid unwanted writing by a palm.
what is the internal memory capacity and also SD card capacity.
Nice to see the D&D content 🙂
Great video! I was hoping you'd post a longer review, so thanks for that. One question: How do you like the new "standard" push pen?
I demo it at 7:52, and it’s really just the Android Kindle app as far as function goes :)
@pixelleaves can you make a video about a5 and a6 screen size differences? I am not sure which one will be best choice for me.
I agree with pixel, I don't think it's worth upgrading at this time :) maybe in the future if your battery ends up degrading too much
Thanks for the review.
Can you upload PDF textbooks to it if you have a large enough SD card? I noticed you were highlighting already structured pages so i'm curious.
Outstanding review! Thank you. Can you use this with a USB keyboard or bluetooth keyboard?
Bluetooth works, but haven’t tried USB-I don’t believe so, though!
@@garrettw5143 I’m definitely going to wait and keep using my Kobo Libra 2 and Tab S9 FE (shorter period). Thanks for the tip. 😊
The Kindle app in general supports audiobooks, does this mean that the supernote can also do that through its Kindle app?
some DD got your so much points!
@7:25 - for me I must make notes in weekly & separately in monthly view as they do not show between views. For you its working or you just made it twice but very hand-written similar so it seems like one???
Do you like the larger or smaller SN better? Wish they would release split screen like Boox
What's the pen that you're using :O? So pretty!
I would like to pay for this assistance rather than the laborious task of learning it all.
i want a supernote with frontlight :(
great video! does a6x2 have a calculator app by any chance?
No it doesn't.
Does the app Libby work? If not has anyone found an efficient work around to get ebooks from libby to the supernote?
I can read borrowed ebooks using the Kindle app, which in my experience is almost always an option (for US libraries at least)
Does it support speech to text note taking
Sorry I. New, is there a concept of you know having multiple notebooks? Like per subject, it’s there right?
Yea you can have as many different notebooks as you want
@@pixelleaves I agree with everything you said. Was just offering this as a workaround as it isn't available at the moment.
@@whataboutkijust explaining what settings I used since you asked if I’d tried them-then figured I would expound for people who might be browsing the comments, since I didn’t mention the no-load shutdown etc in the video :)
Can you install chatGPT in this?
Is obisidan still in your notetaking/planner system? if so how do you use the two together?
My workflow was like this:
- Sync the Supernote notes to the cloud
- Download them to my computer
- Use the program to export all notes not to PDF, but to several single images (svg) in a directory in Obsidian. Then I can reference the images in the Obsidian notes.
I experimented with it for a while, but I couln't get used to it.
Today I do something simpler,
I use both, Obsidian and Supernote on my desk. Supernote to do the free-form thinking.
At some point, I want to add digested thoughts to Obsidian, so I:
- Use supernote screen sharing
- Open my browser and screenshot the image, to copy paste in the Obsidian note.
oh i see, thanks! actually your simpler version is actually what i do when i take handwritten notes as well on my ipad haha. @@CristianVasquez
does it do backlinks?
Nope unfortunately!
...no front light!?!?
People say it's too small to split screen and do math problems. I dunno, I don't want to get one too much bigger.
different colors in headings? thought that is a bw device?
It is black and white; to be more precise it’s different styles (light gray, dark gray, striped) as I show on the screen. I’ll edit the CC accordingly to be more precise :)
A5x2 will be finally out Q1 2025!
How do you know this? Source please?
How do you know this? Source please?
I wouldn’t be surprised if Ratta gets bought by another company
A6X2 writing feel is significantly worse than A5X. The new screen loses feel of pen on paper of A5X and does not feel like pencil on paper. It is much more resistant to pen strokes.

Wow 400 dollars.. I thought 200…at last
Is this the nomad?
