Prepare to do the job and passing the test will come naturally. That’s gold. This is going to be my mantra for my certification journey. Thanks for this. 🤝

This video was put together so well I'm surprised you don't have more. Now that the video is about a year old it would be great to hear what the certification has done for you.
**To pass Security+ memorize ports 21, 22, 23, 25, 69, 80, 389, 443, 636, and know basic firewall setup rules like how to allow/deny traffic based on ports. For book learning, cop Darrril Gibson's Get Certified Get Ahead book, $33 on Amz. For videos Professor Messer's FREE video Sec+ course on UA-cam or Jason Dion's Sec+ course on Udemy $13 or less. For Practice exams Dion offers 6 for $13 on Udemy, if you score 80%+ on those your in a good spot. However Professor Messer's practice exams are as close to the real exam as possible and worth it, 3 for $25. If your scoring 80% on those exams you are ready!! To study/learn watch Messes or Dion's videos, then go thru Gibson's book, I just read the REMEMBER THIS sections and end of Chapt reviews. Lastly for the exam, skip/flag the PBQ'S, which are the 1st 3-5 questions on the exam and do em last since they can take up to 30mins to do and you don't wanna run out of time for the remaining 75 m/c questions. So go thru the m/c and then one done go back to any ?'s ya flagged including those PBQ's. I just passed last week and test felt stoopid easy to me, but don't mistake it, I put in a month of SERIOUS work, talkin bout 5hr study days.. Best of Luck and lets get that $$$ *REMEMBER SY0-501 retires next summer, it's replacement SY0-601 will have 30% more material they will test you on.. So take the easier SY0-501 exam NOW!!! That was a really good one. I think the most important part was saying that you can't expect to just read memorize pass. and that is why they intentionally make it vague. It IS frustrating though, because I failed the 401 by about 3 questions, and I am an older guy and a single parent and I really need to move forward, and it was like: Joe and Sue work in an office and Sue likes 80's music and Joe likes mash ups and so their cousin had an old Camaro and their was an ice cream store across the street. So if Joe likes surfing, but his boss said he could only come to work on every other Thursday....... And I'm like FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I got STRAIGHT A's in my first year of computer science in college while working full time and raising my son..... I'm like....um..... are there any questions about computers????????????????????????????????????????????
When studying some of the practice questions, I read the end of the paragraph and then the beginning because they try and kill your thoughts with useless garb before the question even takes place.
Thanks for making this video, I know it’s been like a year and half but congrats on passing the exam! I just finished Professor Messers videos about the exam and I’m gonna start Gibson’s book tomorrow. I’ve heard good things about Udemy’s practice tests, they really know how to word questions to be tricky.
Don't take practice tests unless you're really ready to test your knowledge! You'll run out of practice tests faster than you think and answering the same question twice doesn't have the same value.
Thanks! I took the SYO 201 back in 2010 and passed. But now I'm looking at returning to the IT field and taking the 501 to get the CE for government jobs. I like how you stress of understanding the concepts.
I passed the 501 the other day. Barely. The question were more vague than any practice question. I didn't think I was going to pass. Read questions several times before answering.
interesting.... Pocket prep was totally throwing off. Specifically, what you said in the video about fire suppression, etc. thank you for the video.. taking the test next week
very true about: there is no cut in dry answer. in this exam things aren't on the surface! i had 82 questions, about ONLY 20 were multiple choice that i knew (from practice exams, flash cards, sybex book, cbt nuggets). only 1 (freaking) question on cryptography, which one is asymmetric encryption?: rsa, aes, md5, rc4, des. and i spend 2 days just grinding cryptography chapter.
Guys just know though, don't keep asking what the questions are in the exam. I love how he spends time on this. 1. It defeats you, 2. It's also against the point of taking the exam and 3. Even if you're making less money and don't love the idea that you might have to spend twice to take it, don't worry. Everyone progresses differently. Have a good day everyone!!!
I’m using quizlet which is basically brute force memorization. I learn best hands on, but I haven’t found a way to do this for security+. Awaiting my exam
I'm now an IT Lead for a small IT team! I worked Helpdesk for about 2 years and then came to this job. I'm basically their sys admin and a helpdesk supervisor.
Matt, I've worked in the Intelligence career field with a clearance for some time and I'm looking to expand my resume by obtaining an IT cert. I don't have an educational background in IT/Computer Science. Is Security+ something I can jump right into and study for or do you recommend any other courses or certifications to obtain as prerequisites?
I’ve been taking the darrell gibsons practice test and I’ve gotten 85-90 on them but I don’t really feel comfortable yet. What would you recommend for me to study more?
Lol sorry I went full retard with caps. I mean there is so much you can do. You can do all these video ideas: 1. How long you have been in the industry. 2. Top tips to getting into the IT field 3. Interviewing other IT people. There’s a lot you can do! You have the perfect setting already with this video. When I saw this video it reminded me of networkchuck here on UA-cam. You come across very professional, you know your stuff and the quality is on point. I think if you dedicate some time to putting videos on UA-cam you could get some real traction.
because there are a lot of certificates, I just confuse! but after searching, I think I should go for CCNA first and cyber ops next. Thank you for your attention! @lawrence
@@drHatim-bt1euFYI. I pass my CompTIA SECURITY TODAY. Yea I have taken A+, actually tough, CCNA, and some Cloud Certs. Network+ or CCNA are about the same. However, CCNA focuses on Cisco products.
I did A+ a couple of weeks ago. I skipped Net+ and going for Sec+ now. After Sec+ I will do CCNA. My reasoning is I want another cert relatively quickly. I feel like the CCNA will take several months. I also heard that Net+ is not highly regarded. Therefore, I'll do the Sec+ and then start studying for CCNA.
I've always heard 45 days but that didn't work for me. You can start there but you'll really get a better idea of how much time you'll need once you study for a couple weeks. Plus you have to factor your life schedule and how much time you can really dedicate to studying every day. I don't think any time frame would be something that works for everyone. Just study hard and don't procrastinate on scheduling the exam. I didn't really see a deadline until I was almost done studying. It's a $300 exam, it's not something you want to rush.
