It was nice seeing you by the way the other day on the Advent of Cyber at THM, when i answered your task, gotta be honest it's challenging but i learned a lot. Just got certified last October for CC and I'm now on my way to Soc in THM and also in HTB. Again, thank you sir for your very informative videos and contents that serves as a guide for us.
Thanks so much for being such a great mentor to everyone that follows your guide and your honest reviews / suggestions with regards to cybersecurity. Hopefully one day, me and my wife will be able meet you at one of cyber conferences etc. :)
The video provides a solid foundation for understanding modern cybersecurity training. It effectively highlights the importance of practical, hands-on learning and criticizes outdated methods. However, to provide a more comprehensive view, I believe it would be beneficial to explore a wider range of cybersecurity domains, including network security, cloud security, incident response, and digital forensics. Additionally, a balanced perspective on certification choices and career paths could further enhance the video's value. By addressing these aspects, the video can become an even more valuable resource for aspiring cybersecurity professionals.
I would lower INE to A tier since most of their certifications aren't recognized unfortunaly (same for HTB). And i'm talking about recruit managers still looking for CEH, Security+, CC

Can you please provide a deep dive roadmap for digital forensics trainings and the best resources, such as CCE bootcamps and specialisation etc. Thanks.
Thank you so much Abed! I really appreciate all the time, effort and honesty you put into this video. As a security architect, I was initially planning to take on CISA, CRISC, CISM, CISSP in 2027/2028, so I could round out my knowledge in governance and risk. I was convinced the investment would be worth it, but I'm so glad I came across your video. Any thoughts on CASP+ and ISSAP? I know that you covered Comptia and ISC2 but I was wondering if you have any specific opinions for these two certs (From a security architecture perspective).
None of those certs will give you anything useful in terms of architectural knowledge. Do GRC Mastery, it will give you a leg up when it comes to maturity assessments. Then do Microsoft Azure security associate, aws security specialty, and if you want more knowledge, then pick a soc platform like letsdefend or hackthebox. Those skills you can translate to architecture and help you make more informed decisions. Multiple choice exams from isaca, isc2, and comptia wont teach you much
@@UnixGuy Thank you sir! Yup I'm already doing the Azure and AWS ones. Potentially GCP down the line. I'm also doing eJPT, eWPT and eCPPT in the next few years so I can learn to think like an attacker. OSCP might be too much for a security architect hahaha
Another grate video, if I may make one suggestion: maybe next time just mention that you are an instructor in GRC Mastery program, I know that its not your intention but some can get the idea that you a bios in ranking the GRC Mastery.
Please Make a Video explaining what Cybersecurity Architecture is and What they do on job and what relevant hands on training someone would need to become one.
yep will make a video about it in the coming months. For now, GRC is the closest thing. Watch this video as it covers a lot of aspects of ‘architecture’ : ua-cam.com/video/GVMzQgxHWEw/v-deo.htmlsi=YqE4W-MYsenHTukl
Thanks for your input! As explained in the video just because something is slapped in a job description doesn’t mean its in demand, many reasons for that :)
Hello! I recommend turning the background volume down a bit as it was a little hard to hear. Also, I wanted to ask: is the Burp Suite certificate worth pursuing?
apologies, I forgot to turn down the music. Yes burp suite is good, but only when its used as part of a proper roadmap (not standalone). Start with this: ua-cam.com/video/rz0RL4Xue-A/v-deo.htmlsi=Hrac1tnHXxS2WtZT
@@UnixGuy Thank you! Would the same roadmap apply in Australia? Or are there other pathways/branches of learning or certificates that is good to take if you're not in US?
CEH is definately not good but it depends on the region you are from like in India CEH opens many doors for entry level Cybersec analyst/consultant roles so we have to do it just for certificate
That’s a story beginners love to repeat. The answer is No. India is a massive market and hiring managers aren’t stupid in India. Just because you see it thrown around in some jobs doesn’t mean its a hard requirement. Having said that, a lot of people are infuatuated with CEH, so if someone is so in love with CEH they should just do it
As someone who was job searching hard, companies would only look at me with the Security+. It's still very much required to get through the HR filter. While it doesn't necessarily tick off the knowledge box per se, it does rank higher, in my opinion, just to bypass HR/recruiters.
thanks for sharing your opinion and experience. I have not found this to be the case, which O explained in this video: ua-cam.com/video/2RfwwlbQecs/v-deo.htmlsi=jG8MCPFvF6Yow0Zt
Hey, new subscriber here. I am a college student interested in cybersecurity as it fascinates me. Really appreciate the video since I am a beginner. Is there a vid for a roadmap for student (i have CS background)?
I have! Watch this: 3 Levels of Cyber Security GRC jobs (Progress Explained) ua-cam.com/video/GVMzQgxHWEw/v-deo.html then this: ua-cam.com/video/C6IgksBpMF4/v-deo.htmlsi=fEewp-DX_itYLbp8 and finally this: ua-cam.com/users/shortsmMx8fKi5L0o?si=_qKkZz1yfHEkhVxL
Many thanks! FYI, while the CompTIA Sec+ is to work in the DoD, it also is required to work in the equivalent in Canada (for Canadians). Other countries rely on the "older" certs, at least for now. In our large organization, the CISSP is still king. Cheers!
In my opinion, the SY0-701 is well structured than previous versions - General Security Concepts - Threats, Vulnerabilities, and Mitigation - Security Architecture - Security Operations - Security Program Management and Oversight I would also prefer ACI Learning for training
I am really overwhelmed. Some days earlier, every UA-camr was saying to do A+, CCNA, and sec+. I started doing A+, and everyone started saying it is not for cybersec. I dropped it and started CCNA, and now everyone is saying CCNA is not for cybersec either. I was about to book a CCNA exam, which is so expensive. If it is not suitable for security, I won't buy it. Need some suggestions about it.

This is so far the best and honest analysis of cybersecurity courses certificates I ever heard of. Thank you for your time, your passion and your desire to free any learners from the scammers. I follow you for sometime now and all your contents are of high quality. Definitely this is the channel to consider for getting the right information and tips related to the IT field. Thank you Sir for your service. I really like how you always go straight to the point, no BS. Kudos
I think it's a great video, but i somewhat disagree with the OffSec courses. Their courses are really well put together and everything you need is definitely in the course. I have never had a training course where i wasn't googling non-stop to try and understand a concept. I may just be an anomaly though that's why everyone has opinions 😀 HTB will definitely replace Offsec if they don't step it up though
currently an IT tech, got the job after 13 months of studying from 0, have Sec+ and some projects. After I`m done with WGU BS in IT my plan is to get more hands on, and I like TCM security PSSA, already have LetsDefend SOC analyst cert too

Thanks for reviewing man, but I've a doubt, my college placement cell recommended us to do CEH as a beginner as most on campus companies look for it first and OSCP is high in cost for a beginner, so is it wrong if I do CEH practical?
@UnixGuy but eJPT and PJPT have less recognition here also one of my relatives working in cybersec recommended me doing CEH first. I'm totally confused.
For someone who doesn't know what area in Cyber security they want to enter do you recommend doing free trainings you recommended first to see what area one likes in the field?
No, I recommend you take a generalist approach and follow this plan: ua-cam.com/video/rz0RL4Xue-A/v-deo.html Free resources are a low in quality and will waste your time
@jeffnaval4894 you can pass it in 1-2 months depending on your previous knowledge . I have completed the HTB pentester paths, so it was easy for me. I recommend you to practice on htb, or THM junior path is enough to pass and complete the labs on ine
This video was very refreshing. I am no longer interested in the Cissp or CCSP. I rather use my time to to transition to a skilled multi cloud security engineer and align with being an cloud security architect. Job market is crazy. I have a degree, 8+ years of experience, an am going for the aws security cert in a few days🙏🏾. After a few projects I'm coming for the azure security cert (AZ 500) but after this cert phase it will be all about hardening the practical skills and exiting the loop of cert gather and analysis by paralysis.😂

I love that statement, real fact 😅
💯 ISACA annual fees really made the knowledge stick 🤦🏻♂️😂

👍
Great video. Comp Tia Security+ is great for US based federal jobs. Most federal IT jobs require it or similar certs based on the DoD 8140 initiative.
yes becaise of DoD, but for learning actual material, not so much
Please Make a Video explaining what Cybersecurity Architecture is and What they do on job and what relevant hands on training someone would need to become one.
yep will make a video about it in the coming months. For now, GRC is the closest thing. Watch this video as it covers a lot of aspects of ‘architecture’ :

Great video. Any thoughts on EC-Councils Certified Cyber Security Technician?
same thoughts as CEH
I haven't even watch the full video but this is the Video I have been looking for
🙏🏻
I'm from India and acquired CC certificate by ISC2 as a beginner .. anybody know which road to follow for next?
follow this:

Great video, the only thing is the background music makes it a little difficult to hear and is not necessary.
Apologies about the music, I forgot to turn it down
Great video but i disagree about the cissp. If you look online for jobs, cissp is still at the top of the list.
Thanks for your input! As explained in the video just because something is slapped in a job description doesn’t mean its in demand, many reasons for that :)
Thank you bro. Now i am going to do the hack the box offensive security cerification.
Great choice! watch this if you want to ease your way into it:

40 minutes dayum. Let’s go
Start with this:
ua-cam.com/video/rz0RL4Xue-A/v-deo.htmlsi=Hrac1tnHXxS2WtZT
@@UnixGuy Thank you! Would the same roadmap apply in Australia? Or are there other pathways/branches of learning or certificates that is good to take if you're not in US?
Im in Melbourne australia :) the roadmaps aren’t country specific, they work in australia and the rest of the world
Good Video. Please Make the music lower next video!!!!
yes apologies I forgot to turn it down :(
CEH is definately not good but it depends on the region you are from like in India CEH opens many doors for entry level Cybersec analyst/consultant roles so we have to do it just for certificate
Yes when i looking as an entry level job in cybersecurity.... Most of them asks about CEH in India...So as a beginner iam totally confused
That’s a story beginners love to repeat. The answer is No. India is a massive market and hiring managers aren’t stupid in India. Just because you see it thrown around in some jobs doesn’t mean its a hard requirement.
Having said that, a lot of people are infuatuated with CEH, so if someone is so in love with CEH they should just do it
Oh you were in BSides Canberra ?? I should've joined your session :( missed out
yes I was! I even tried to film but couldn’t! next time :)
@ looking forward to it !!
I have not found this to be the case, which O explained in this video:
ua-cam.com/video/2RfwwlbQecs/v-deo.htmlsi=jG8MCPFvF6Yow0Zt
I was able to obtain 2 certifications using Udemy.
great!
Thanks for the video!, I'm also thinking about CREST CPTIA, what would be your opinion about aiming for this cert?, greetings!
CREST had its moment, best stick to the ones recommended in the videos. From memory passing the OSCP gives you crest anyway
Oh good, thank you. I couldn't figure out why I was unmotivated with Sec+. Even though the information itself is interesting, the layout is boring.
yeah Im not a fan
You are the best thank you 🙏🏼

Hey, new subscriber here. I am a college student interested in cybersecurity as it fascinates me. Really appreciate the video since I am a beginner. Is there a vid for a roadmap for student (i have CS background)?
Welcome here :) this is a great roadmap:

Can you do an in-depth video like this for IT Risk Management / GRC?
I have!

Many thanks! FYI, while the CompTIA Sec+ is to work in the DoD, it also is required to work in the equivalent in Canada (for Canadians). Other countries rely on the "older" certs, at least for now. In our large organization, the CISSP is still king. Cheers!
thanks for sharing
In my opinion, the SY0-701 is well structured than previous versions
- General Security Concepts
- Threats, Vulnerabilities, and Mitigation
- Security Architecture
- Security Operations
- Security Program Management and Oversight
I would also prefer ACI Learning for training
yeah its an improvement, but unfortunately still have the same issues of comptia
@@UnixGuy If it wasn't for the recognition, I would definitely skip the exam (only study the material)
After seeing your other videos, the S Tiers become make sense
🤝🏻
I am really overwhelmed. Some days earlier, every UA-camr was saying to do A+, CCNA, and sec+. I started doing A+, and everyone started saying it is not for cybersec. I dropped it and started CCNA, and now everyone is saying CCNA is not for cybersec either. I was about to book a CCNA exam, which is so expensive. If it is not suitable for security, I won't buy it. Need some suggestions about it.
Advice provided on this channel actually lead people to land jobs, I post success stories on a weekly basis - I can’t say the same about the other advice that I see posted online.
If you want to work in cyber security follow this roadmap:

This is so far the best and honest analysis of cybersecurity courses certificates I ever heard of. Thank you for your time, your passion and your desire to free any learners from the scammers. I follow you for sometime now and all your contents are of high quality. Definitely this is the channel to consider for getting the right information and tips related to the IT field. Thank you Sir for your service. I really like how you always go straight to the point, no BS. Kudos
thanks for your kind words and I appreciate your support🤝🏻
I think it's a great video, but i somewhat disagree with the OffSec courses. Their courses are really well put together and everything you need is definitely in the course. I have never had a training course where i wasn't googling non-stop to try and understand a concept. I may just be an anomaly though that's why everyone has opinions 😀 HTB will definitely replace Offsec if they don't step it up though
fair enough, thanks for sharing your experience 🤝🏻
currently an IT tech, got the job after 13 months of studying from 0, have Sec+ and some projects. After I`m done with WGU BS in IT my plan is to get more hands on, and I like TCM security PSSA, already have LetsDefend SOC analyst cert too
congrats 🎉🎉
I just got my SANS GCIA (intrusion analyst) the learning material alone is $8500 and the exam voucher is $979! Crazy
yes its sane! I did it years ago and I never once had to use Bro or Snort. I used IPS on firewalls all of them had a graphical interface…
Great video I really appreciate your information and industry perspectives. Videos like yours helped me tremendously getting into tech originally as an IT technician, then getting promoted to a Sys Admin and soon to be exclusively working in cybersecurity roles. I'm glad you spoke on the cloud security certs I was strongly considering the Azure one and I think you've helped me make my decision on that. You're a hero in this industry 🫡 thank you.

@UnixGuy Awesome thanks!
Thanks for reviewing man, but I've a doubt, my college placement cell recommended us to do CEH as a beginner as most on campus companies look for it first and OSCP is high in cost for a beginner, so is it wrong if I do CEH practical?
yes it’s not what I recommend..
Follow this:
ua-cam.com/video/rz0RL4Xue-A/v-deo.htmlsi=a8QYCMwKdRfMJ2-L
@UnixGuy but eJPT and PJPT have less recognition here also one of my relatives working in cybersec recommended me doing CEH first. I'm totally confused.

For someone who doesn't know what area in Cyber security they want to enter do you recommend doing free trainings you recommended first to see what area one likes in the field?
No, I recommend you take a generalist approach and follow this plan:

Free resources are a low in quality and will waste your time
@@UnixGuy Understood! Will do thank you
Recently i have passed ejpt now preparing for oscp hopefully will have job in 5-6 months
Have a look at this video:
ua-cam.com/video/5hiqPTUs-yc/v-deo.html
Hello how long did you study ejpt? How many hours total?
@jeffnaval4894 you can pass it in 1-2 months depending on your previous knowledge . I have completed the HTB pentester paths, so it was easy for me. I recommend you to practice on htb, or THM junior path is enough to pass and complete the labs on ine
uff….the music in the background
apologies for this, forgot to turn it down :(
This video was very refreshing.
After a few projects I'm coming for the azure security cert (AZ 500) but after this cert phase it will be all about hardening the practical skills and exiting the loop of cert gather and analysis by paralysis.😂
good luck!
Normally don't comment on these types of vids, but this presentation was great. {"all bootcamps are absolute garbage" Yeah, now tell me how you really feel about bootcamps.. LOL)
Appreciate the kind words!
“I watched the knowledge leave my body” 😂😂
Not done with the video yet but I am not sure if you mentioned certifications for a cloud security engineer. Please share
I have 😁 you’ll get to them
@ Yeah, many thanks. Please can you recommend a vendor neutral cloud security engineer cert?
