I passed the exam in July. I passed the Network+ exam in April and re-applied my study habits. However, I have little practical experience in Security. My plan include educating myself and finding volunteer or shadowing time to develop my skills in network security for the remainder of the year.
I was able to pass the Security+ exam on the first attempt last month. All that is needed is to read the Darril Gibson book and watch Prof Messer videos. Prof Messer also have a monthly study group where valuable information is provided :)

Though not super hard, I am very intimidated because there's hundreds if acronyms and definitions. That's a ton to memorize for sitting at the exam. Also, still trying to figure out how they will come up with PBQ for it.

I got my first IT job through a college classmate referring me to his company as a Service Desk Engineer paying $65k a year and I have no certs yet. I now have 2 years Service Desk experience and I have 5 classes left to get my Bachelors in Cybersecurity. My next goal is finish school, pass the security plus cert, & get hired for a security role.
Get it. I spent the last 12 years in CNC machining, including CAD/CAM and 5axis. I’ve worked for some big defense contractors and tiny shops. I have a very well padded resume and a host of skills. I can’t make more than $35 an hour lol....that’s why I’m watching this dudes videos haha I’m done. I’m going into tech. Way more money.

With CompTIA certs don't take it to get a job take it to learn as much as you can and pass and then try for a job. Most companies have an IT department even if your role is not IT based the skills that you have along with your certification, and your willingness to let your manager know your career path will eventually land you a job internally or try the contract to hire.
I should have mentioned this, but security clearances are EVERYTHING these days. I.T certifications are great, but if you only had say a TS/SCI clearance, your foot is getting ALL the way in the door. Companies will work with you in obtaining the sec + cert, but yea clearances are a big deal.
Just passed Sec+ 501 a couple weeks ago. My first cert! Studying Linux+ now, but probably won't have time to tackle another cert before class starts up again this fall, taking 17 credits😱

Got my Sec + earlier this year. A very challenging cert, but not an impossible cert. Darrill Gibson's website provides some very compelling source material especially for the performance questions. Going for my ITIL and A+ 901 next month.

B Grey with my schooling .. we used something called testout which is also made by CompTIA. It has videos and labs within each chapter and section. It is basically an outline for the A+. I would recommend buying testout software before buying the certmaster!

Is there any point in getting your CCNA if you get a Security +? Security + is for the Cyber Security side while CCNA is for a completely different IT path right? Hello, congrats on getting your CCENT. Don’t stop there. Complete the CCNA. As far as the security+ and CCNA security they both have foundational infrastructure security. CompTIA is more on the basics of what security is and what to do and what not to do on a network. CCNA security is the Cisco way of securing an infrastructure. Good luck!

It definitely won't hurt to get it. It let's people know you have a bit more hands on knowledge of Security. Degrees are not bad but you see more jobs asking for Assoc./Bach and certs rather than Masters or so. Plus, the higher levels require the higher level certs.
What are employment prospects for a person with a misdemeanor assault charge from almost 10 years ago of getting in the door with this cert in security?
If you're talking about getting a secret clearance to work for the govt., You should be fine. The background check for secret I think asks for the last ten years as far as criminal history in concerned. Top secret I think might be any past criminal history. That being said, I don't think that's an automatic disqualifier, as long as they're isn't any pattern of criminal history, you should be good.

Yes if you want to be in security the Sec+ is a baseline entry level cert for that field.

Security+ and Linux+ are both good to have, I have those as well as the CCNA R&S and Security

If you want to go straight into security than the security+ is a great start. Otherwise the A+ is a great cert to introduce you to IT.

Take the assessment test and see how you do before jump it into the cert like that.
submitting the CEU credits cost 50.00$$ a year correct? By the way Gibson's book did help me pass 501.

What are employment prospects for a person with a misdemeanor assault charge from almost 10 years ago of getting in the door with this cert in security?
If you're talking about getting a secret clearance to work for the govt., You should be fine. The background check for secret I think asks for the last ten years as far as criminal history in concerned. Top secret I think might be any past criminal history. That being said, I don't think that's an automatic disqualifier, as long as they're isn't any pattern of criminal history, you should be good.
