- WHAT'S UP AUDIO NERDS?!?!
Today we have an inexpensive, but also discontinued, microphone in the studio. I have had the M-audio Nova microphone for a while and have always been really impressed with it, so I decided to show off this $20 gem that I found at a pawn shop...Usually price is around $40. Given the price and the quality, this is a great mic to add to your gear collection!
GETTING CLOSE...ish TO HALLOWEEN AND I AM STOKED! Went with a darker look today to show how excited I am! and look at that adorable skull and pumpkin on my desk! C’mon target, dats too cute! ; )
Stay tuned for more videos! Thanks for watching the Audio Hotline, See ya next time!

This was the first condenser microphone I ever bought. It was in new condition at clearance when all the Comp USAs in our state closed and were liquidating their merchandise, probably around 2007-2008. Normal full price at the time was 100 dollars, but I got it for 50. No matter how many more mics I add to my locker, I keep coming back to this thing. It really has very low noise and isn't overly bright.
Since I've been working from home during Covid-19 restrictions, I use it for our online meetings. Everyone else is using their tinny sounding in-computer mics and I'm blasting at them with crazy sound like a stupid crappy morning DJ. "Hey 10th caller, glad you could join us on this meeting! While I'm sure you're looking to score some concert tickets, everything is closed. Bummer."
I got my Nova in 2014, and I still use it. I bought it used for $45, and I really appreciate seeing people validating my purchase 8 years later. :-D
I bought one of these at a pawn shop, still wrapped in the factory plastic, never opened box for $40 bucks. It was the first actual mic, besides USB mic, that i ever bought. I still find myself going to it before i pick up several higher end mics for different jobs. Although i do feel like i know this mic inside and out because i used it so long so that could be a factor. At the end of the day, i have beat the shit out of this mic, bought a second one for back up, and its still a work-horse!!!! This video is my first that i have seen from you and i enjoyed every second of your humor mixed with real thoughts!!! Its refreshing to see someone of your caliber not taking themselves so dam serious!!! You have a new SUB for sure!!!!
I pulled my NOVA out today for a project and was reminded of how good it is - I think I got mine for $34 at GC. I will buy all that I see . . . Thanks for the review(s).
I just picked up another for about $30.
Found this mic forgot I bought it 12 years ago.... super helpful video! Thanks man!!
Hmmmm M-Audio Nova in the closet... Kinkyyy !!!
Gave me a good smile, thanks for that !
By the way, thank you for your great review work on tens of videos I've watched !!
You're awesome. This is so entertaining
Hard to argue with you on this one. It was my go-to for voiceovers for a while, and other than the middling self-noise, I'd probably still be using it today. For the price, it's a steal.
good test, good ankward jokes, good asmr ... excelent 👌
Excellent topo!!
LMAO. You had me cracking up... Nova is a great mic.
My arthritis really acts up and when I listen to AMSR, it helps to sooth my joints. My parakeets really like the calm sounds, too. We all listen to it and then watch Golden Girls.
Good video, awesome channel. Everyone seems to love this mic so I guess its going to the top of the list.
How much would you pay for it delivered, tops? Is there a difference with the "Black" model?
its funny how u made me laugh more than the majority of comedy content today LUL
Fuck ya! Thanks man! I appreciate it.
BINGO!!! Same here!
how diferrent is the new nova black vs the old nova? i want to buy the nova black and i read some specs and they were pretty much the same but i want to know if the quality is close.
Stupidly helpful thanks again
Superb test! Thank you!
I have one and it is realy amazing
Sylvain Laporte thank you! It is a great mic!
Dont stop u will blow up soon
Thank you!
where does one find one of these? they seem to have almost disappeared now.
When it was side ways ,it had a cool dimension spacial sound.
Exactly what i was thinking!!! Crazy what you dont think about doing until someone like this does it unintentionally and it sounds freakin cool right:? LOL
The M-Audio Nova combined with the SSL 2+ is producing sibliance. I wonder if the problem is with the audio interface or with the microphone being too bright.
I have this mic! What would you recommend plugging it into for the computer? Budget friendly.
I have the M audio M track duo using this mic and it's a great super budget friendly combination.
I own the AT 2035 and two Novas and I like all of them. I had a Neumann Ripoff back in the days, and the Nova kicked its ass. I think you can't do anything wrong buying that gem for $40 bucks
Hey! I happen to find this mic at my parents place form years ago... am I able to plug in a XLR to usb cable directly in my computer? wanting to use it for streaming
No. You need an audio interface with Phantom power
Just finished watching this review again....love the sound quality of that mic bro.....I'm going through your mic reviews again, one by one, then I'll be doing a shortlisting of my favorites..then I'll link with you to see which of those on the list , you won't mind ''parting ways'' with......lol.
But first on my list, is this m audio nova
Talked me into this one
Obscure Mics it’s a good one! Pretty underrated, hope you enjoy it! Just subscribed to your channel!
Obscure Mics aren’t you a part of The Back Row Fantasy Show?
Yeah I meant to reply as such lol. Good eye batter
And I appreciate the subscribe!! Ive been a fan of podcastage since I started podcasting last year...no one else caught my attention on mic reviews till you...so now I have 2 great sources, which I appreciate.
Obscure Mics awe thanks man! I appreciate it! Personally, the Booth Junkie (voice over artist, gear oriented channel) and Peter McKinnion (photographer) made me want to start a channel. I have been writing, mixing, producing, and mastering music over 10 years. So I have a lot of mics collected haha, and am constantly getting new ones. Figured I should put all this gear to work! Haha I really appreciate the nice comment! If I come across any Obscure mics, I’ll be sure to let you know!!!
3:00 i died hahahahah. Thank you for the review! i think i'm going to buy this one for my *cough* instagram *cough*
LOL
RizkyMariant hahaha I am glad you enjoyed it! This is definitely a great mic! It should sound great in a... um... Instagram... environment? Haha 😉. Do you really make videos like that? I don’t really know what the terminology is for them. Maybe you can enlighten me. But if you make them, no judgements here! I think it is cool. Anything that someone enjoys doing or makes them happy, or brings others joy, I am all for! Thanks for watching my review! I appreciate it.
Anyone knows if this microphone is the same as the black one that comes in the vocal pro bundle?
i want to know too
Dude, have you found out? Have you bought that bundle? Are you pleased?! PLEASEEE
@@McHighOfficial whats your budget and will you buy only mic or a bundle tell me i will help u
@@egegulkaya2525 Not sure about the budget by now. I am looking for a bundle, i need at least Sound Card / Mic and Headphones
I am looking between the steinberg recordking kit, M-Audio AIR 192|4 Vocal Studio Pro and there's one other that has some midi outputs on the sound card... For now and 1-2 more years I want to focus on recording and mixing vocals
@@egegulkaya2525 Presonus AudioBox USB 96 that's the third.
Hey you know I just watched this review again ... I really did come across some weird dude, doing that same thing to and with his microphone, here on youtube....we were like, ''what the hell is this guy doing''? ...bro you cracked us up with that lmao.......
Anyway, check the messages...
Blue Yeti is way below this mic. Looking at frequency charts on blue yet it looks bad. This mic performance is with NT1 and AT3035. Blue Yetis is not in same class as this mic. I like the warmth and bassier sound of Nova over NT1 btw. NT1 is more flat and bright sounding which i don't like. This mic just sounds good. I also like AT3035 but can't find it anywhere.
I'm DYING. 😂😂😂😂
How does it compare with the rode nt1a?
I personally think they sound pretty similar, although the nova doesn’t have AS much “clarity” (treble boost) as the NT1a. I have used the NT1a quite a bit to record singers, and I have been really happy with it, but I do sometimes have to tame the treble in post. I can always email you a quick sound comparison of the two if you want!
@@AudioHotline Actually I have the Nova but I was thinking to get the NT1a and I was wondering if that would be an upgrade. Yes, plz message me the comparison. Thank you.
Manish is there an email address I can send these samples to? 😊
Audio Hotline i would love to hear how they sound in comparison since i wan make adesicion which one should i buy.. The nt1a or the m audio nova
Guitar Center sent me this broken mic. I've connected it to 48v audio interafce and it's buzzing and barely picks up anything. I can't believe they would do that. I'm going to lose money on shipping.
Sebastian Sefyu that happened to me once also from guitar center. They should understand that Condensers are relatively fragile and package them accordingly. I think that was at least the problem with mine. It was packaged horribly and UPS probably threw it around since it didn’t even have a fragile tag on it. It is absolutely possible they just didn’t even test yours though, that sucks dude! My sympathies.
Trying to choose between this and the 2035, pleaee help me
Hey! What are you planning on recording and what budget are you looking at?
The Nova is a solid mic for the price. The AT2035 is also very capable, and it kind of just comes down to the sound you like. I believe I lean Nova. It’s been a while since I put them back to back though.
3:00 🤣
It's called ASMR and they say it tickles their brain or something like that
F؟+* the microphone. .... i enjoyed the video and forgot about the microphone that i was going to buy 🤣🤣🤣🤣
that fake laugh tho!
Does it work in ps4
@@chirastewart5682 thank you for responding 🙂
I got you boo
It took me a year to respond but no you can not. You would need an audio interface as well as a converter. Sorry for the insanely late response haha
@@AudioHotline even tho I switched to pc now
I still appreciate your response lol
Thanks ❤
This m-audio sounds pretty good.....do you still have it?...
Anyway bro , when you get the time, please check your email ok....bless
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂rub the mic
You talk too much. Stick to the “beeping” facts!
😘
😍
🥰
Arthur Verwer it is funny to me that you say this because I get the opposite comment a lot, that I am “obnoxiously to the point” and have never been told this. To each their own, but thanks for wasting some of your life on me!
you intro was very unprofessional. I'm just leaving this message to let you know that you need to grow up if you want to have a long career in this industry. Lose the language in your videos, its really tacky.
This is 4 years old. I was just getting my feet under me. Didn’t really have the whole UA-cam thing figured out yet.
However, I rarely swear in my videos now. Not due to people commenting telling me to stop, it’s so I can be more suitable for ads.
What sad twat takes their time to post whining about swearing 😂
