    I absolutely loved this review, this mic is now very high on my list of considerations. I hope you could also check out the GXL3000 from CAD as well, there aren’t a lot of reviews and tests out there atm and I’m very intrigued. Thanks again for another awesome review, happy podcasting!

    The CAD GXL1200 small diaphragm is really excellent and surprisingly good for voice as well as being awesome on drums and guitar cabs...it also has only 14db self noise :)

    When upgrading your studio equipment should you upgrade your audio interface first or your mic? I have a mxl 770 (condenser microphone) and a Behringer um2 (interface). I decided i want to buy a rode nt1a and a focusrite scarlet solo but idk which one to buy first?

    • @zezesilver
      @zezesilver 7 років тому

      Yung Hiroshi I'd go for the audio interface first, and then the NT1a. In fact, I'd go for the NT1 (black model) because the silver edition is old.

    Hey man! Awesome vid just as always!
    Hey, I have a question: in your opinion what is the best mic for all the podcast voice stuff for around 50 bucks atm? (I got m-audio m-track audio interface, that has xlr and phantom power)
    Thank you in advance!

    • @Podcastage
      @Podcastage  7 років тому

      I'd suggest a dynamic. Look at Q2u, ATR2100usb (which are both XLR/USB mics) or look at the Shure SM48 which is great for $40.

    this mic also has a bass freq, filter on the inside, if you unscrew the bottom ring and slide the sleeve down there is a button on the inside, just incase you have a very deep voice, or if you are trying to recod like a bass guitar and what not, i have had the same mic for well over 2 years now and when ran into a mixer, and eqed i love the sound of it, i also have the 3000 and the 2200 is much better! great vid btw

    Have watched a number of your videos on Microphones. The number of choices is overwhelming, to say the least. What would you recommend to someone who is just getting into recording? I am only interested in recording voice & Acoustic guitar probably using the Audacity program. I would purchase a basic interface such as the Focusrite 2i2 & a decent pair of headphones. Your input would be much appreciated...........Thanks, Steve

      MXL makes some good condenser options. Audio Technica also makes a condenser mic around $100. It's all about which tone sounds best to your ears.

    If you unscrew the base of the mic(GXl-2200) there is a push button on the little board, I think I remember reading somewhere that it was a filter of some kind. Could you possibly give it a whirl and post a short test clip on the second channel?

  • @tylorkenniston1192
    @tylorkenniston1192 4 роки тому

    I have what I believe is the same mic, but the only marking on it is the CAD logo and the polar pattern diagram . I assume it’s the same mic as it sounds similar in your video. The high end is a bit bright but I’ve used it backed off me in some of my videos for spoken word and it sounds pretty good that way. It is a little more harsh than my mxl, but the mxl 770 to me sounds like it has a slight compression distortion to it. I’m still debating on which one I like better.

    CONGRATS ON 50K ...please review MXL 440. and its comparison with neewer

    • @johnjackson8902
      @johnjackson8902 7 років тому

      Anant X If I were you I'd just get the MXL V67G because they seem to be close in price and the V67G has a better frequency response chart. But the 440 does have a better Signal to noise ratio of 80 db vs the V67G's 73 db. Unless you're seeing the 440 for some great used price.

    • @Anant_Naveen
      @Anant_Naveen 7 років тому

      John Jackson thank you so much for the suggestion.. but the problem here is that.. V67G costs 5 times more than 440 here in India .. in that case dont you think 440 is a better mic for vocals and acoustic guitar ?

    • @johnjackson8902
      @johnjackson8902 7 років тому

      Anant X Oh definitely if the price is that different. Oddly enough in Canada the 440 is the more expensive one.

    I have a classic CAD e100 and I have to say...it is one of my favorites in my collection. It has a nice warm, buttery smooth sound that I haven't heard on anything cheap or expensive. This isn't half bad either. CAD definitely cares about their work and puts a lot of care into their products.

  • @zezesilver
    @zezesilver 7 років тому +1

    At first I thought it was CAD'S electret response to the AT2020 (even the same numbers in different order) but the company states the GLX-2200 holds a large diaphragm inside. Is that truly possible at $75?

    • @Podcastage
      @Podcastage  7 років тому

      That's certainly what they say it is.

    • @zezesilver
      @zezesilver 7 років тому

      By the way, congrats on the 50K !! : D

    • @johnjackson8902
      @johnjackson8902 7 років тому +1

      Z Alves Anything 1"+ can be called large diaphragm. There are $80~ large diaphragms, and the AT2020 is $100, so it is completely possible, especially if they cheap out somewhere else to focus on the capsule. It looks like a pretty large capsule from what I can see through the grille as well.
      Even mass produced low quality mics like the NW-700, BM-700, and similar rebrands have a 22mm capsule so 1 inch capsules at $75 isn't too far out there.

    • @zezesilver
      @zezesilver 7 років тому +1

      I always associate large diaphragm with $100+ microphones. For instance, the AT2035 and the AKG P220 are more expensive than the AT2020 and the P210 because of their large diaphragm. That's why I found it weird that a $75 mic could have such a diaphragm inside. But you're right: it may be so at the expense of something else (in fact, the GLX-2200 looks flimsy next to the other mikes I've mentioned).

      Darkguard- clash royale I don't think there's a difference. I think it's like HDMI cables where a cheap cable is just as good. A more expensive cable _could_ last longer, but you could also just buy more $10 cables.

    I see this used on eBay with auctions starting at around $30~. Nobody seems to bid on them so it would be a really cheap mic to pair with an interface if your just starting out.
    But if you're going to be paying the full $75 just wait a bit and get something a bit better or buy something nicer used. For only $10~ more there are quite a few MXL mics you could choose, or you could find a used AT2020.

    • @SianaGearz
      @SianaGearz 4 роки тому

      AT2020 is a 16mm small-membrane electret. If you're looking for the kind of sound texture that this mic delivers, most MXL and the AT are really not direct alternatives. If you're thinking of MXL440 and several similar models, well while it's probably rolled off the same factory as this and clearly has its electronics designed by the same person, the capsule is different and the "large membrane" designation by MXL is a straight up lie. The membrane measures something like 16mm or barely any larger and then there's two brass rings and a brass mesh piece that hide the sin and make it look more substantial than it really is.

      It does sound okay. I'm just getting to the point where there's so many mics on here, that I need to begin to be more critical or every video will end with "Hey it sounds pretty good. Buy it".
