There used to be a lot of truck garden farms, on Hall rd.back in the 70's, I used to work on one, you could hear the construction going on at the mall, that's when we rode our bikes to the farm, way before Hall Rd. turned into the highway it is now, I graduated before it opened, and moved out of the area, I won't miss it, but it is a memory, I don't think we need anymore eaters or small shops, there are enough empty ones around the area, but best wishes for the new ideas, it should be interesting

The last time a project like this was proposed, it was called Bloomfield Park, and it went into foreclosure with construction companies and tenants recouping pennies on the dollar....

My Mom used to work at the Winklemans clothing store back around 1980. Fun mall from what i remember.

So... They're essentially turning it into Downtown Mount Clements? Cool idea I guess. I'm gonna miss the mall though. I used to hang out with a lot of my friends there, and that's where my wife and I had our first date 10 years ago when we were 17. I have a lot of good memories there.

Teenagers hung out at malls like crazy from the 1960's-90's.
But now, teenagers are playing video games or doing modernized athletic training in sports. They have no time or desire to go to malls anymore.

I remember back in 1976 when there were several commercials promoting the big opening of Lakeside Mall.
    Times have certainly changed.
I think Westland Mall will be next to close after Lakeside, then Southland, and then Briarwood Mall in Ann Arbor.

It’s a crying shame, that mall was beautiful, I’m sorry but that new concept looks hideous to me 🤷

So closing down an affordable place to shop to place:
office building(s) --> For our remote workers I guess? Last I checked office buildings; yeah they can't find tenants in many of them
unaffordable housing -- > Don't think for a second the average person will be able to buy any condos in that place
Hotel --> We have so many hotels around the area that are constantly empty, who is going to want to stay at an overpriced hotel, that is not close to any major freeway or Major business district
Shopping center(s)---> um we are tearing down a shopping mall to build a shopping center(s)? Look at partridge creek, last I heard they weren't doing so great there.
    Truly sad.

It sickens me how the retail industry has destroyed malls like Lakeside. Lakeside was tons better than Fairlane & 12 Oaks. Though originally from Dearborn Heights & l8r reloc8d 2 West Bloomfield when I was 10; Lakeside Mall was my favorite. The design of the mall allowed easier access 2 the stores but online shopping (along w/companies like Amazon) sealed Lakeside's f8. No different than what happened 2 Northland, Wonderland, & Pontiac/Summit Place Malls.

Yeah lakeside may have been the best mall in the state in its heyday.

Also, why is lakeside closing but twelve oaks is thriving? Those malls were once virtual mirrors of each other and have very similar histories. There’s partridge creek of course but there must be more to it than that.

@@Rob2068 Completely agreed, Rob. Funny (metaphorically speaking) that u mentioned 12 Oaks & Lakeside in the same Convo as both malls opened w/in 3 months of each other back in 1977 (Fairlane opened the yr b4 in 1976). In justifying ur comment, I personally believe that some1 w/in.local politics (i.e.: Sterling Heights City Hall) 4ced this issue. Regardless; it's still fuckin' said as Lakeside was my favorite mall amongst "The Big 3" (i.e.: Fairlane, 12 Oaks, & Lakeside). Dammit; I miss Friendly's Restaurant @ Lakeside.

How many time has one closed and a new exciting project was promised to replace the old place - but the new project was delayed for years as the old abandoned mall became a dangerous eyesore or was cancelled completely. Hope I'm wrong!!

There not gonna build anything there, they will tear the mall down and leave it a vacant lot. The visions is too ambitious and expensive.

I was there the day it opened sad to hear it's closing but that'd a huge area there all surrounding that mall hopefully something practical will happen not world class restaurants and high end stores. I would clear the whole area and build affordable housing there because young people cannot afford any housing in this Biden economy
