This month was a blast. I've put close to 30 hours into Chrono Trigger with all y'all, and I wouldn't trade it. What an amazing game, and experience to share.
I love that we're doing a thing together. Even when I'm playing by myself, just knowing that I'm enjoying the same thing the other dusty dweebs are enjoying makes me feel like we're hanging out.
It's an amazing game. I played it in the 90s when it came out on SNES. I rented it from Hollywood video, and made my parents keep renewing the rental until I finished it. It changed how I looked at and play video games.
I ended up stuck in a room one week (road trip for my father's work, with nothing in walking distance), so I brought the snes and played completely through Chrono Trigger. It was a good week.
The art work always stood out to me as a kid, then during another play through I saw “Art by Akira Toriyama” oh that’s why it will be a timeless masterpiece 😊
I remember when i got a comptuer with a landline in my room as a young teen one of the first things I did was download ZSNES and Chrono Trigger. Great memories.
I grew up with this and got it for Christmas of '95. Chrono Trigger sent me down a path trying out all kinds of RPGs, mostly starting with Squaresoft products. Done countless laps and love it still.
I finished the game earlier this month after playing off and on for a few months. What a great game. I struggled keeping up with the time travel so used guides more frequently than I would have liked. It was still an amazing experience. Love this concept. Keep it up!
Chrono trigger along with Metal gear solid ps1 are the ones who showed me gaming can be more than just “go to the end of the level.” These games showed can truly can be art.
I love this game. I only bet it twice over the years. It’s super easy without grinding. The ost is awesome. Memories of Green and Millennial Fair sound so good on the snes.
This is really good content, i enjoy watching review of old nostalgic/memorable game, i hope u can continue this series, and make UA-cam playlist about this, it will make people watching this kind of content easier.
I love your concept! A perfect way to celebrate old games while answering the eternal ''what do I play now that I have a million games?''. And reuniting too!👏
I got a all out!! But seriously, thanks for the great video and I’m so glad that you got to enjoy it fully with your community. This was a great opportunity. And as always, well done on the video!
i been going backwards with gaming and loving it!! Modern games just are not good anymore, so i have been going back and playing older games. I feel like I could play classic games over and over again!!
Well, I live in a PAL region. I had never had the privilege to play Chrono Trigger in my youth on my SNES. I never knew the game existed. Later with the rise of the Internet, I discovered this game and read all the praise it got and played it on one of the first SNES emulators, named ZSNES, on my Pentium 200 MMX or 500 MMX (somewhere late 1990's). I was absolutely smitten with this game! The beautiful art and the even better music and characters! I knew that I wanted to play this game on my SNES. So years later I modded my SNES so it could play NTSC and PAL games and played the game on original hardware. It's my favorite SNES game and one of my favorites of all time! My only small negative with the game is (but it is quite common with games from this era), that it has no journal, so it can be quite challenging to figure out what to do next if you decide to play it again weeks later... On the other hand, it was a common thing in the past to keep notes yourself while playing a game.
chrono trigger and earth bound are games that i have low expectations on. well during that time, platform games are popular. but when i have the chance to play it. it totally blew me off the water. it completely changed my point of view of gaming
The best SNES game and my favorite JRPG. There's like a dozen endings, most of which can't be seen without new game+ since most require you to beat the final boss at certain points throughout the game.
This game is one of the greats but probably my all time favorite RPG on SNES is Secret of Mana. I need to try to replay Chrono Trigger again and see how it holds up for my nostalgia. Another really cool one that not many people talk about is Secret of Evermore.
Chrono Trigger , Squaresoft Magnum Opus , probably the best 2D JRPG ever created , until today i havent able to find a game that surpass this masterpiece , it has all the best rpg has to offer , wonderful stories and writing , great characters , engaging combat system , time travel concept , and one of the first non linear consequences system that affect the outcome of the game. i still play this game over and over again in various retro handhelds. Thank u tech dweeb for reviewing this GOD TIER Game
Just got my miyoo mini + with onion os pre-installed and am loving it, thanks for giving such an in-depth look when you reviewed it. I'll give this game a try since I'm enjoying some Earthbound, this looks like my cup of tea. Also, your tech dweeb background slaps 👌
I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve been to that festival, time travelled then put the game down. I need to push through because it sounds worth it. Will become a patron at some point. Thanks for the awesome recommend will start playing it today 🔥
Same with me. I did that festival so many times, the first hour or so of the game, and then forgot to continue. I'm really glad I finally forced myself for this challenge because it's SO worth it!
Just started it with the Cyberlab Megatron Shader in 4K HDR (retroarch pc). This Shader combines the best of CRT and Modern Displays to really make the Graphics stand out! The smooth blending of colors but still having a Sharp and crisp image is really something! I can't play the game without that shader anymore (or only on a crt).
Great video once again! I gotta give this game another try, I tried playing it on the DS a long time ago, enjoyed what I played but got stopped by the anti-piracy measure, oops
a guy i work with at work told me about chrono trigger and said it was an absolutely amazing game. he didn't know how many hours he put into his snes. but he tries to pretty much platinum it. he recommended this game because i told him i liked Dragon Quest 11 and i played most FF games. so he let me borrow his dragon quest 8 to play and told me to buy this for snes. luckily, i got a 3ds recently. so i will try and buy a copy of chrono trigger. also no i haven't play dragon quest 8 yet. dont have a ps2 to play it.
When I played this game with my brothers, it was only about 6 or 7 years old. We grew up with the NES, but we missed this one when it came out. Now, it's almost 30. Time flies, dweeb...as you well know...
My first play through of Chrono Trigger was a few years back during the time when the world was being weird... It was such an awesome game. I keep saying one of these days I am going to do some more of it to see some of the other endings, but I have yet to do so. That time I played it on a super famicom and a bootleg multicart, but I have since bought it on steam.
Awesome video! I havent played it in maybe 20 years or so but this did a great job bringing me back to the best parts I remember about the game. How do I join the Discord if I’m a YT channel member but not over on Patreon? Recently had a bad accident and surgery and have several months to stay off my leg and recover so I might be able to partake in a dusty game or two lol :)
It would be really cool to see a series on "best retro games to play on emulators in 202X". Like, games which still hold up today and play well on cheap hardware they weren't designed for. Especially games which maybe aren't as well known, or aftermarket gems, or arcade titles. For example, Incredible Crisis was ridiculous silly fun, and I love introducing new people to some 2-player Toobin'.
You're a man of exquisite taste JD. I can't believe it took me so long to get around to finally playing this one. I feel like a dweeb for waiting so long.
Tales of Eternia is really underrated, too. Translation and voice acting are a little rough, but the character development is really good. Sprite work is also fantastic and the gameplay isn't bad, either. It's definitely a huge step up from Destiny and Phantasia PSX. Glad to see Chrono Trigger getting some love, too.
@@TechDweeb Pro tip though. There's an NPC early on in the game that gives you something called a "manual" book. This gives you access to a new control scheme you can switch to with more freedom of movement. It's in the dojo, which is like the second place you visit in the game. Just talk to the NPCs in that area and you won't miss it.

Relatively new to this channel, so if you already knew, my bad, but for another game of pure beautiful optimism check out Skies of Arcadia(Dreamcast/Gamecube, bit of a rabbit hole on versions), it has a large cast of great characters, great combat, turn based air ship combat in addition to the normal on foot, and just a damn good swashbuckling tale.
I just bought the V4 Miyoo Mini yesterday. I can't wait to see what the newer higher resolution 2.5 inch screen looks like. (Edit- I highly recommend Secret of Mana if you like games like Chrono Trigger, just beware it's kinda grindy)
