Hi! I have a question about incomplete information on a first time us passport application. I'm finding different answers online, and not much addressing it on the government pages. Do I need my mother's birthday? I know that sounds terrible. I don't know her birth year, and I don't have the death certificate.
I’m traveling in 6 months but I want to start the process to get my passport asap. I am worried about my parents information since they’re both non citizens would that affect them in any way ? I’m sorry if my question sounds stupid but my parents nor have anyone ever taught me anything about this process.
I’m not clear on whether your concern is for your passport, for your parents or for everyone, but each passport applicant must be a citizen of the United States and have the supporting documentation (certificate of birth, certificate of citizenship or certificate of naturalization). If you are the only person that needs a passport and are a citizen, your parents’ non-citizen status is not an issue to your application. I hope this helps!
If I go to an appointment at the post office to get my first passport, will they have to keep my naturalization certificate or can they just keep a photocopy? I don’t trust them to keep it for 2 months. It takes $555 to replace if they lose or damage it.
I applied and got denied because of citizenship problems. Don’t know what to do talked with local office and they looked at me like I’m screwed. I’ve got the letter and plenty of info but really don’t want to share on here. Any email or something private?
Thanks for the information I ran into a road block my moms birth name is different than what’s on my birth certificate my dad says just put her original name but I’m not sure do you have any incite
Depending on what is near you, try a copy/print store, local library. Some stores like Staples, Walgreens and CVS offer copy services (check your location). Some apartments and hotels have business centers with copiers. If you have access to a printer (many have copy functions), that will work.
@@TheCalvinChronicles I have both my state id and my birth certificate and the postal office just told me I need another ID in addition even though both are valid
@@metabaron6664 Did your state ID have your photograph? If so, I’m not sure why they would ask for additional ID. I see multiple suggestions online but my suggestion is to contact the passport office where you intend to apply for their advice. In the video description I have a link which you can find locations and contact info.
You can get a money order from the post office. You cannot send cash with your application fee but you may be able to pay cash for the separate processing fee. Verify this with your application location before your appointment

Elizabeth city, North carolina I have had 3 people go in and attempt to get a passport and they all have told me that they were turned away because they needed a drivers licence with a gold star to get a passport. This is nowhere on any government site ive looked at. My girlfriend is about to go in to attempt to get a passport. She will bring student id, voter card, birth certificate and social security card. (I mention these incase we are missing something) If she gets turned away because she doesnt have a drivers licence with a gold star. How do we go about reporting the office because as far as i understand its against the law to force someone to get a certification to obtain a passport. Especially when there are people who cant drive.
Wow! Sorry to hear this. It sounds like someone is misunderstanding something, not only because passports are alternative to REAL ID, but also because compliance deadlines have been pushed back to 2023. I am not aware of how to report issues. Has anyone tried to show a staff or management member the requirements from the department of state website? If they insist they are correct, maybe look at submitting your application through another location?
Hello! Thank you so much for this video. My state doesn't offer the birth certificate with the raised symbol , would that mean that I need 2 certified copies of my birth certificate from the state of issue?
You only need one certified copy (or the original document), which is for review. The copy is kept by the department of state. For most states the certified copy has the embossed stamp but if this is not your state as long as they provide what serves as an official copy you will be okay. It may also help to double check with your local passport to be sure you have the correct documents.
Similar to birth certificate requirements, an original or certified copy with an embossed seal would be needed. To replace your document, complete Form N-565, Application for Replacement Naturalization Citizenship Document. This can be found at travel.state.gov. Good luck!
My guess is the temporary ID does not contain your photo, which would not work. To double check, contact a passport office in your location directly. There is a link in the video description to find an office near you.
Some sort of government issued photo ID is needed. If you are employed by a city, state or federal government agency, an ID from that place of employment would also work
I applied for my passport for the first time, about a month later i received a letter saying that my parental information was not completely filled out on my aplication. The problem is that i dont know my father (deceased) whole name and DOB, What do I do?
Did you leave the field blank or write “Unknown”? If you leave a field blank it can be returned for incomplete information. Writing “Unknown” or “N/A” shows that you did not miss or ignore the field. If you did write unknown, you’ll have to follow up to determine next steps.
You are correct that it cannot be a photo copy. This must be the original document or a certified copy with the embossed stamp of the entity where the document is filed (IE: State or county registrar). In the video description is a link to assist in obtaining certified copies

If I understand your question, you are a citizen of a different country attending a school in the United States. You would travel under the passport of your home country unless you have obtained U.S. citizenship.
Birth certificate is used for citizenship not ID purposes. State ID should be fine but there is a line in the documentation page that states that you may be asked for secondary ID. That is probably why you were asked to show your SSA card. It is up to the USPS worker to say that.
