In this video, I share my experience of getting a passport in a hurry, and share some tips that I learned along the way.

First of all, I should say THANK YOU. I live in the US and planned to visit Spain for a trip. Unfortunately, my daughter's passport was expired and I found it one day before the trip. As you guided, I tried what you did and could get a passport within few hrs. I made a passport in the morning and went to Spain afternoon on the same day. What a surprise! Did you get the passport?
Yes. I had the firsts appointment and my daughter made her 2pm international flight at LAX. We got a passport and passport card in a few hours for $200
Great video! My friends son was going to Europe on a Monday afternoon flight. Sunday while he was packing he realized his passports was expired. They got in line Monday morning at the New Orleans passport office and had him on his flight that after noon. So as a reminder to everyone kids passports expire in 5 years not 10.

We sent it two month ago and it was returned because she was a minor when she first had her passport. We went to our local postoffice and they said it would be 10 weeks! She began to cry, we are going to visit family in Ireland for Christmas. This video brings hope. Thank you!

@@TripAstute We finally got telephone call in today. We have an appointment for the day before we leave December 22. We hope and pray that we get the passport that day to leave the following morning. Again the video was uplifting and I hope we get the passport and ready to takeoff.

Do you think walk-ins are still being excepted I will go at 5 AM for three days straight if I need to I just don’t know if walk-ins are excepted at all at this time I tried calling but I get a dial tone and disconnected please help!
Thanks! With the pandemic, the hours and procedures may be different. I would check on other sites like Yelp to see if anyone has recently posted a walk-in experience. My guess is that they are probably still doing it, but maybe have less capacity than before. However, you will definitely want to check before making a trip down to your local passport agency in the early morning hours.

Yes they can do that. If you still have your expired passport you can use that instead of a birth certificate.
Thank you for the advice. I arrived at the Los Angeles federal building by 5:20 this morning, I was the first in line, hoping to get an emergency walk-in appointment to no avail. Unfortunately, there are no more walk-ins accepted. They will not let anyone inside the building without an appointment confirmation. The only thing the guards keep telling people without an appointment is to call for an appointment and to keep calling but there is never any appointment available or not near. The appointments I was able to find were in Honolulu, Washington, and Arizona. The only good appointment I found was two hours away from where I live and it was within 30 minutes of my call which was impossible for me to get there on time for that appointment. This is so frustrating. I suggest to everyone not to wait as I did. My kids' passports expired May 3rd of this year and the earliest appointment I could make for the processing of it was June 20 My flight, which I probably won't make now, is July 16. It is July 13 now and I am still waiting for the passports.

Yeah there is a number to call 📞 to get an appointment for passports for urgent travel. You have to call within 14 days of the travel. No need to be 72 hours or that is not my experience

Here in Miami they’re telling me the only place I can get an appointment is in Honolulu HawaiiI have a flight booked for Christmas Eve for myself and three kids and now I don’t know what to do? I need to passports for a minor in my renewal for myself and I really don’t know what else to do

Did the new passport have a different number? If so, did that impact on the trip at all? We have the situation in the UK & Europe where a number of airlines require you to enter your passport details in advance, and then make it very difficult (and expensive!) to change the details in the case of error or passport change.
It does have a new number, and luckily, we were able to call Lufthansa and have the passport number updated on the ticket without any additional charges. 😊
The State Department's website is really confusing, because it *does* mention a "life or death" expedited service of 24 hours, but it makes it clear that it's only for travelers who have, for example, have an "immediate family member is outside of the United States, and he or she has died, or is dying (hospice care), or has a life-threatening illness or injury, *and* you need to travel to a foreign country within 3 business days."
To be clear, this is what they say are the requirements *if you want to get an appointment* to get your passport renewed. They say nothing about walk-ins. But I am still not clear if the walk-in expedited service you used _also_ requires proof of travel within 3 days, for _renewing_ a passport. I currently fall between the two categories: my departure date is 5 weeks away, but according to the passport office, it's now taking 12 weeks for renewal. 😬
I agree. When I went through the process, there was no mention of the actual expedited services available at my local passport agency. That being said, it sounds like from other comments that some of these expedited services are no longer available. Though it might be based on your local passport agency (which is so confusing).

All my personal belongings were taken by bank who illegally entered my home and took all my belongings ALL my photo albums clothes and even food in fridge. I'm in foreclosure but, legally own my home until day it's sold. Will expedited new passport be given if not needed for travel but, have a time deadline to sell my house?
I think you can opt for an expedited passport, but I don't think it's as fast if you can't show that you have an upcoming trip that requires it.
The video was very helpful and reassuring. But, if you are traveling later than 72 hours but sooner than the normal time for regular service what do you do. Can you recommend an agency to help you can trust.
The Passport Agency should be able to advise. They may still expedite based on your situation. Also, FedEx just launched a new service where they can get expedite your passport. I may do a video on it as it seems like another viable option, and it may be more accessible than going to a Passport Agency or other third party agency.
Does anyone have any recent experience (within the last 2 weeks) regarding an emergency passport? I keep calling the number for the passport agency but their appointments get booked so fast, it's as if you never had a chance to get an appointment. I need to get my passport before next Thursday. 😖

I live pretty far from Atlanta and I’m concerned that if I go ahead and book my flight that for some reason they won’t let us get our passport within 72 hours. Does anyone happen to know if the government can be trusted to actually get us our passport in 72 hours or am I at risk of messing up all of my trip because of this one thing? My dad was just diagnosed with several things that are usually terminal and so we have to get out of the country ASAP and their passports just went 15 years expired in November

Please tell me if I want to get a passport to go see a friend, can I get a passport in less than 1 month? I have never traveled outside of USA. Yes, you can get a new passport in less than a month. Though, I would opt for the expedited service (extra charge) just to be safe. The State Dept estimates that it takes 4-6 weeks to get a new passport, but only 2-3 weeks if expedited. Also, you don't need to have travel plans in order to get a passport.
You definitely don't need to go through the process in this video though. I did it because I was traveling within a few days. I would simply apply at your closest passport center or agency. You'll be asked when you plan to travel, and if they think you should expedite, they'll let you know.

I’m traveling august 22 and cannot find my birth certificate now I have to wait three weeks to get that and now I’m cutting it close to get my passport in time. I live in the Los Angeles area and would love any suggestions on where to go to make sure I get the passport in plenty of time. I send your passport on Saturday so should be getting it soon lol. Sense that happen to you can you travel with 2 passport just in case you loose one while your out of the country?

They actually gave me a brand new passport with a new number. I thought it would be easier for them to just give me a duplicate passport, but they said it was officially lost (since it was inaccessible). I guess it makes sense from a security perspective too. 😊

I'm actually from Argentina but and to get my Argentine passport I have to make an appointment 7 months ahead and my closes consult is in Chicago so it sucks I better not loose it
Go to any agency/ post office that are actually doing passport orders.
1- show up as early as possible, example: i went to the one in Long beach walk in because it was impossible to get an appointment, we arrived at 6:30 am and they open at 8:30 am, the line was long and they cut the line exactly at 8:45 WE WERE THE SECOND TO THE LAST PERSON where they cut the line. We left exactly at the time they closed yup you read that right
2. Take your own pictures because must places offer a photo service only for the people that had an appointment and lots of people had to leave the line for that reason.
3. Take something to eat just to be prepared because you never know if you go through the same experience i had
4. Expedited service was 4-6 weeks but now they said its 6-8 weeks
5. They dont accept credit card so just in case take cash and they will make money order for you
6. Take your flight info, a copy of your flight so they can see your not lying
7.If you need to travel in less than the time they said call your congressman/ congresswoman of your county and explain your situation and they may help you. I read this on a lot of comments from another video, people were explaining they needed their passport in less than a week and they were calling the congressman and had their tracking number the same day and passport actually arrived the next day. I was impressed! However i did try that and it didn’t work as much,I moved my flight because my passport just didn’t arrive on time. I hope it helps. I wish someone would of say all of this to me when i was searching it up

Now that it’s Covid. What are my options? My 2 kids had precious passports but they were minors it expired in recently. They are now 18 & 16 . Bec we have a death on 8/26 in the family I now need to take my kids with me to a previously planned trip that I’m already booked for.

I would start with calling your local passport agency office. You may have to request an expedited passport. I would definitely explore that option before hiring a private agency to do it for you (since it will cost so much).
Trip Astute thank you for your response. I did try calling and they can’t schedule me in unless it’s 72 hrs before my flight. I have no choice but to go thru regular channels. I will just keep my fingers crossed and hope I get it soon. I did pay for next day delivery. Expedite is suspended for now.
So, I have my old passport, but it's expired. I'm not departing for a month, but everything I'm reading online says it can take up to 8wks if I just do a normal renewal online. There's a Passport Office in my city, I have no issue with going there...But, if I tell them I don't need it for a month, will they then view it as not a priority? And then, bang, I'm put in the regular renewal queue, possibly taking up to 8wks. I hope I'm explaining this clearly.
Should I lie and say I need it ASAP? If I wait until I really DO need it within a couple days, I might not get seen. Any advice is appreciated. You need to show your plane ticket to the government building. I booked a flight to Peru for the Tuesday with a passport expiring in 2 weeks . I hoping to get mine tomorrow.

Do you know if they actually printed your passport on-site in the federal building? I always thought that passports were printed in Philadelphia only?
It's a good question. Since I got it the same day, I assumed that it was printed on-site, though I'm not 100% certain. Perhaps they have some local printing capabilities for expedited passports only?
@@TripAstute I'm only asking, because I recently went to a U.S. Embassy to renew my passport, and they cancelled out my current one and gave it back to me and told me it could be 10-15 days to get the new one. I'm just wondering if they process and print them at the embassy or send the info to the US for processing and printing. Hope I get it soon.
@@TripAstute Reporting back that my renewal passport was approved within 2 days at the US Embassy in Mexico, but it took 10 more days to actually receive it. And I had to pick it up at a local DHL office. So 12 calendar days total. Thanks again for your video!

The same process should work. You could also get an expedited passport through FedEx if you don’t live near a Federal Passport Agency.

I think so. I don't remember there being any restrictions on getting an expedited passport on a new application. Though I imagine it would be easier to get a replacement passport when you're already in the system.

You might want to check out your local FedEx office. They recently started offering expedited passport services at their locations: fedex.rushmypassport.com/

I believe it's still possible, but I would definitely check with your local passport agency. During COVID, the timeframes may be a bit strained. 😬

That's a good question. I believe she is eligible to get one as soon as she gets her naturalization certificate. Though you may want to check with the US State Department to be safe. 👍

I personally wouldn't rely on the post office for an expedited passport. You might want to visit your local passport agency in-person to review your options. Also, I just heard on the news this week that passports seemed to be delayed due to the surge of travelers at the moment. 🙁

It's hard to say, especially since we're in the middle of the pandemic. I would definitely call your local passport agency or the State Department to find out your options. I think it should be possible (especially since people are able to still get same-day passports), but I would recommend calling to make sure.

I would address it with the State Department since they are the ones who actually process your passport. The post office only handles the delivery and application.

I don't think so. This was only for situations where you haven't already submitted an application.
How do you know if your passport chip is still working?
I don't know if there is a way to check it. I believe they use RFID chips in passports, so they should be pretty durable.

What if your lost passport is also expired? Can I still qualify for this expedited service?
I think you would need to apply for a new passport and select the expedited option. However, I don’t know if they prioritize applications for that specific situation (I.e., they might argue that you should have applied earlier). Though it’s worth calling to see what they recommend.
Is this information still applicable post COVID?
It's hard to say. Based on the comments, it sounds like some people have had success getting their passport expedited. However, there are also a lot of reports that passports are currently backlogged in the system. 😬

I think so, but I would check with your local government passport agency. From what I understand, the background check is not very comprehensive.

@@luxmunk I contacted my representative for my district and they seem willing to help. I told them my situation and somebody suppose to call me back. So, try that.
the only way i found an appointment was by checking late at night or really early in the morning bc that’s usually when people cancel their appointments.

Did you need your original birth certificate and social security card?
No, I don’t think I brought either with me. Though I did bring an old passport, my passport card, military ID, and drivers license (just to be safe).
@@TripAstute If I do not have an old passport and my replacement birth certificate does not arrive on time do you know if it's still possible to expedite my replacement passport?
I suggest calling your local Passport Agency to see what they can do. I'm sure there are options to expedite your replacement passport. Also, since you're already in their database, I don't know if you actually need to have all the required documents to get a replacement (versus a new passport).

I thought I mentioned it in the video. It was $205 for the expedited passport. But keep in mind that it happened in 2018, so it might be more expensive now.
I need an emergency passport in June 2021 . Unfortunately, the passport office is not accepting appointments. Is it worth it to drive there and try to get an early morning appointment? I would but feel that it would be an incredible disappointment if I were unable to get it.
