    There's def a lot of flaws to the Canadian health care system, but as I'm in a hospital typing this out while staying here under monitoring for free and having had 3 open heart surgeries that would've costed me upwards of $900,000 not including hospital room fees and medication if I lived in the US, I'm inclined to be happy not to be extremely almost a million dollars in debt (and counting, since I may need more surgery) just to be able to live.
    That's just me though. Extremely thankful to be able to live here.
    (ps. the wait times depends on how severe your situation is. I got my surgeries pretty quick cause...well.)

      That's an exaggeration, you have to know people (a lot of Canadians, not all) like to complain and exaggerate (without knowing it) or like seeing things in a magnified way. Take for example, a couple, in the beginning they love each other and each sees only the other's good side, but at the end, when divorce is near, each sees ONLY the other's bad side, forgetting how they actually are, more nuanced (not all couples, obviously)... take it from someone whose family is from both Montreal and New York + Boston
      edit: I've been to hospitals many times, same with the rest of my family

      I agree, it also depends on which hospital you go to (at least where I am in Canada) since some get over crowded and others not as much so. Also, love your art and wishing you all the best in your recovery

    Eyepatches were used by Pirates to switch between eyes when going in and out of the ship. It was not to cover a missing eye. When you move from inside to outside, the sun is very blinding, so you'd switch eyes and alleviate the waiting period of getting used to the sun, and when going in side, you switch eyes so you didn't have spot vision from the sun.

    The wait is so long in the ER sometimes because of many reasons: critical patients are prioritized, not enough nurses/staff in the hospital (not just the ER), the volume of incoming patients. Yes, you can have a patient die in the waiting room because their condition can go from moderate to critical very fast. BUT you are not solely "treated" or made to wait longer in the ER based on your insurance.

    If you don't like the wait lines then you can still skip the queue with private medicine and private health insurance (or your own hip pocket if you are wealthy enough). That's the one thing that US Americans continuously fail to understand about socialised medicine. You still can have both. And it's even better because you don't have to go forking out $500+ access fees whenever you need medical attention because you can still use the public care when things are tight (or if you don't mind the wait time for a certain thing) and keep in reserve the private shit for when the lines do get excessively long or if you simply want immediate attention.

My girlfriend and I were in the hospital because she's type 1 diabetic and had no insulin and we waited at the hospital for 16+ hours just to get a prescription for new insulin to keep her alive, and the prescription was wrong and we had to go back and get it fixed too. Free health care is cool, but dayum.

    I mean Canada does have better health care, but it's far from perfect. Like Steve said the waits are so long. But, even as I say that these doctors have my respect. I mean i'm poor so if I had this happen I would honestly have to think long and hard about refusing it. Morally it's the right thing to do. I love how they understand that the nurses and other members needs that money for raises given to them ad to help patients.
    Very noble of them. But, just thinking of someone going " No, I don't wanna make too much money." just comes off as so absurd even if it is a good reason just the thought. But, this is coming from a poor perspective.

      YAS QUEEN I liv3d in the Usa and Canada. The health care is better than the states, there aren't any wait time for anything that is needed. Like, what he said about cancer isn't right. They will treat you right away. Best thing is, you will never go in bankruptcy for healthcare. We also never refuse patients, like you can go in for what ever, and pay nothing. If you are going in for something stupid, they will make you wait hours, since anyone that is more an emergency will go first. We separate the wait times by code, depending on what is really needed. If you get shot, there is no wait time. If you have a small cold but need a doctor's note for work or school, you will wait 2-3 hours.

    ive only heard horror stories about the health care system in America, like how a single ambulance ride can cost a couple thousand dollars, or something cheap like saline is hundreds of dollars. In Canada unless something is cosmetic, any surgery is free, its pretty cool, because i can go to a walk in clinic for the most mundane things, and not be charged anything. As for our version of the DMV, i think its different by the province, but the most ive ever waited was like 5-10min

But! alot of things you do need a family doctor for some prescription and other things.

    I can say from experience and living in Canada my whole life (I'm 21 years old) that if you're not in the middle class then you're cut off from some treatments. If you're not in the middle class then you're cut off from more treatments, don't get me wrong you're not cut off for life but you'll have to wait from anywhere from 6 months to 3+ years.
    Additionally, you can be denied treatment but it depends on the injury / illness, proper or required medical equipment, etcetera.
    There are benefits to our healthcare system but there's a lot of problems and it's steadily deteriorating.
    Family doctors are a whole other story.

    Sadly Canada has a shortage of doctors. Many of our doctors are moving to the states instead of working here. It's also important to note that healthcare is different from province to province. That's why everyone in the comments has different experiences with Canada hospitals.

    I've worked as a security guard in a hospital up here in Canada before, and the lines are insane. Hell, when I was sick with swine flu, I waited 7 hours to get seen by a doctor who told me to just go home as there was nothing he could do for me as it had progressed past the point of the shot cure being effective(funny enough because I went to a separate clinic, and after waiting 30 minutes, they gave me the shot, and within a day I was cured).
    I almost want to say you need to be put to sleep just to get through the lines.

    QC has the worst wait times for hospitals in the civilized world. The rest of Canada doesn't have that issue. Also every other publicly funded system is the worst in QC compared to any other province. QC is a place where tax money gets pulled in en-mass and then evaporates. Putting more money into the system would serve to funnel it to whomever is siphoning it out of the QC system. Better to pay doctors more so they stay in QC since a lack of doctors is an issue there. Anything that sounds altruistic in QC often is just a scam to steal money from the populous.

    So they trust them to take that money and help those needed more? How about take the money and grab everyone who was gonna sign that letter and simply do charitable work with your own earned money that they overpaid you.

  • @alonen51

    So Canada’s health plan is paid for in our taxes, and so the doctors and most healthcare workers are paid by the government. So these doctors are protesting against the government of health. Quebec has the lowest pair for nursing staff in Canada foe you info.

      Wait times here (Ontario Canada) are ridiculous. That and some of our hospitals are severely underfunded and we have a lack of staff in many hospitals as well :/ Some are amazing but oh man the stories I've heard and stuff I've witnessed first hand is crazy and definitely makes me question our health care system sometimes.

      Yeah it seems like exactly what the doctors are complaining about, they don't want the raise when you're just cutting hospital funding and nurse funding. Seems like the problem is the hospitals themselves. I'm sure if they weren't underfunded then they'd be able to take care of the waits.

    The basic idea of socialized medicine is that we all pay into the system and that system pays the medical staff. There's no parasitic middle man looking to make a profit out of your suffering.
    This could stress the system when more people are physically or financially fucked, but as long as it's consistent, no one's getting ripped off.

    Well if they really have an excess amount of money, then let's redirect that towards hiring more doctors. That way, I don't have to wait 3 hours for a check up or a flu shot. Or lower taxes since the doctors don't want that money...

  • @D3V10U5
    @D3V10U5 6 років тому

    Wait times here in Ontario Canada depend on the situation. If you have a broken arm or something non life threatening, you're gonna wait hours. If you're coming in with a head injury or a heart attack or something severe, you'll be seen immediately. In my opinion, it works well enough and I'd rather wait and get treated for free, than be seen right away and lose my fuckin house from bills

    • @D3V10U5
      @D3V10U5 6 років тому

      Oh, and service Ontario (our dmv, passport and health card services) is ran very well. Even with a line of 30+ people, you'll be done within a half hour max. The last 2 times I went for license and health card renewal only took me 15-20 mins each

    Canada health system has its good and its bad, the waiting times to get specialist is horrendous and a lot of doctors are hesitant to prescribe anything other than over the counter painkillers and sometimes until things get worse do they start taking action, but with all that said in emergency situations they are pretty good, you can get your surgery knowing that after it you won't have to give your life away trying to pay a medical bill.

    I like New York because of free lunches, HEAP, and lots of help for poor people, but the saddest part is that without free healthcare the poor people on state insurance, like me, are scared of getting hurt because the cost of treatment is more than the cost of my yearly salary.
