    Thank you so much for this video! Your knowledge of the runes is some of the most in-depth I’ve seen. I love how you put everything in proper historical context… I’ve really been wanting to know more about the magickal energies of runes as I work with them more one-on-one and try my hand at creating bindrunes…it’s like the runes speak to me. Fascinating stuff, love your highly informed perspective. Many blessings to you my friend

    I appreciate this. You mention that rune staves were to attract something, and then were to be burned or disposed of somehow. But just before that you said the carver needed to really think about if they wanted the effect to be perminant. Is it wrong to make a perminant attractor? How would that be different?

    I'm not too bothered by the use of staves as a Heathen... To me, it's enhancing the techniques of Chaos Magick with letters that were already enhanced by Odin himself...

      Hello there! I have a very good friend from your country hehe. There indeed a couple of books about the rune staves, really good books, more down-to-earth so to speak, without fantasizing about the subject, reliable information. I often recommend the works of Stephen E. Flowers and and Christopher Alan Smith. There are more than 300 rune staves that have survived, in the books you will see perhaps 100 and it's always the same ones, but from book to book occasionally they put a few less known to the public. Research "Icelandic Magic" and you will certainly find these two authors. Have fun with your readings and good luck ^^

      Do you have any idea why in that book certain staves need blood from say for example the thumb but others need blood from the tongue? Isn't blood from any part of the body the same blood? I haven't been able to find an answer..

      @@josva9124 I'm just going from other sources because I hadn't found it directly mentioned in either one of them but the Bloods probably due to a system of connotations with those body parts a example and a lot of practices your right ring finger is associated with healing hence the blood that goes through that finger is also associated but you do you

    17th century concerns must have been very similar in mainland Europe. From what I understand (and I understand very little) the main uses for magic in the 17th century in my area (Germany) were for these three purposes: rediscovering stolen goods, finding treasures hidden by their owners during the 30 year war and healing.

    Arith my friend please do not take this as criticism but can i help you with some English? When a vowel is followed by a consonant that is follewed by the letter e the first vowel sound is softened. The word stave is pronounced stayve ie the letter a is said as ay no aa. This is a general rule of English as in realise the ise becomes eyes.
    The word island - s is silent so it is said as eyeland. These days we tend to be lazy with words like iron and mostly the r is not pronounced so it is said as ion but you are correct also to pronounce the r as many Scottish people.
    I always enjoy your videos and I am an ardent fan of this channel. Good luck with the dig - I envy you.

    • @ArithHärger
      @ArithHärger  7 років тому +3

      Hey thank you friend ^^, about the stave pronunciation I didn't know, but the "island" I know how to pronounce, but I don't know why, I always say "isle". When I was editing the video there it was again "iZle" all over again, I get mad at myself and I keep pronouncing that wrong even though I know how to pronounce. Sometimes I don't understand my brain. But in the near future I'll try to pronounce "Stayve" as you pointed. Thank you once again ^^
