What do you think about the recently sold out track pieces from the Nemesis rollercoaster being sold for a staggering amount of cash? Comment below!
A fool and his money are easily parted.
The fact it sold out so quick means the next coaster part will be even more expensive is the worst thing 😂 I can’t blame towers since people are buying it
Can't blame them at all
£350 for a 3-4" piece of nemesis rail or £450 for a 5ft long piece of PMBO track.
Easy choice for the metal enthusiasts out there
@@LiftHillsandThrills Buy some track and make a coffee table for your Nemesis rail
Thanks!
Madness...utter madness is that price and even more madness is the fact they sold out so quick
Yup… could have slapped another 0 on there and they’d have still sold 😂
im going to buy the biggest metal pipe from B&Q cut it up and sell it on as nemesis track for £200 each then
Yes!
I paid £70 for an original Goonies cinema poster (Quad Poster).
That's a good price for a full quad and an original!
Absolutely crazy. But like you say, whilst people still pay it, they will still get away with charging it.
Yup..
I have an original vinyl poster measuring something like 3ft x 7ft for hanging in a cinema foyer advertising the 1995 film Toy Story, and I’ve only just recently found out it could fetch anything in the range of £500 to £850. The question is, do I hang on to it for a few years, or sell it? Decisions decisions…..
Hang onto it.
they already started on Ebay & its on bids at the mo but they asking 2k to buy it now,,,,, damn crazy . but its the times we live in lol...
Ridiculous
My mum knows a guy that used to fit carpets, and he got a job fitting a carpet for a movie set. That movie turned out to be The Shining and it was the carpet in the scene when the twins say "come play with us", one of the most iconic scenes in horror! There were loads of offcuts from that job and it all just went in the skip, if he had kept one of those offcuts he would of made tons!
He would have made thousands! Most props back in the day were thrown in a skip, even iconic features just trashed 😩 until someone realised that keeping those items meant something to people and the hobby has exponentially grown since to the point where items once priced at £1000 are now £15k upwards
I have some bits that were just left behind when American Adventure was demolished. My favourite is a coaster side friction wheel that is now a desk tidy.
There was even a Rapids Boat left that was played with by local kids in the lake for years.
The one thing I’d love to find, is a log flume boat from the old Nightmare Niagra log flume. Think it would make a great flower bed in the beer garden since we were one of the park’s nearest pubs. :)
The fact a full sized log flume boat from Towers was only selling for £650 more than this recently says a LOT about how overpriced the track piece is aha
@@LiftHillsandThrills Yeh, imagine what they'd get for it now... I feel like, size aside, a log flume boat has a lot more potential uses too. This kind of reminds me of the whole BPB/PBR vintage cars situation to be honest... "Ohhh, Enthusiasts want that do they, well I'm sure they'll pay then." Kerchinga... We've really got to stop asking for things!
If you ever come across one from the American Adventure, could you let me know, not sure how, maybe through the CF forums or something... But I'd be very grateful. :)
@@coasterfest I don’t go on the forums really unfortunately but I’ll try and keep an eye out
@@coasterfest I know a scrap yard that has one of the old swan boats from Alton Towers. I might try and buy it.
@@TheOfficialSmudgyThat would make a really nice planter or build it out with a picnic table inside :)
If they keep this up it will be profitable to replace coasters!
It really will! aha
Bought some Nemsis bolts for £150 minus discount but £350 is another level. Absolutely mental
Eeek
Never heard about this story about Star Wars, thats insane.
Yup... I miss that prop so much haha
£150 for two bolts, £300 for a rail, £600 for a wheel next lol
😂😂 you know it
Definitely agree that AT are taking the mick a bit, but they are using the sentimental element to make a fair bit of money. If people are prepared to pay it, then as a business, AT will sell it at a price!
Of course!
Wonder what they'd have charged had it not been retracked, guess it would have been £100-£200 more.
and the rest as they'd label it as their classic collectors edition range
This is ridiculous. Personally, for me, i'm interested in the wheels blackpool pleasure beach do as they somewhat represent the ride, same with the nemsis bolts as they have a good display.
Agreed. Makes Pleasure Beach look affordable now!
For that amount I'd want the piece framed with a picture of the ride and a picture of where the part has come from on the track aswell as a certificate of authenticity, Merlin cashing in yet again 😒
Agreed, a proper display is warranted for that…
Yeah 350 is pushing it with pricing 😂 I knew I should have cut some track when it was in the car park 😂 that crow prop is awesome! You must have some cool stuff
I’ve got a fair bit! This is just the little filler stuff. A good chunk of the other stuff is on public display now but I still have a few pieces here and there
I got the same Big One track and I wanted a Nemesis track but the coast was WTF, I'm sure BP was selling 3m lengths of track for the same price a few years ago.
They still are there’s a HUGE piece only a hundred and a bit more
Big lengths are still there. With the big lengths you really can make something amazing if your into that. This tiny nemesis is crazy
@@clareriley Make a nice bench or coffee table if you're good at welding aha
@@LiftHillsandThrills I thought about a bench when I saw them.
Nail on the head. Depends how much you care about the item you’re purchasing. The track was pricey for certain. But worth it to those who care enough. 😂
For sure
it'd be cool to have, but definitely out of my price range... Reborn VIP event was tons more value in many ways, so i guess i'd rather spend the money on things like that
Agreed 👏
I bought one. Can't wait to get it and display it. Nemesis has been a huge part of my life for 30 years and I wouldn't be the enthusiast I am today without it. If that makes me an idiot then so be it, but it really is no different from owning a cup of dirt.
My cup of dirt was free for me and can be resold for profit a piece of scrap metal can’t BUT proves my point about sentimental value I’m sure if that ring was £500 you’d have still got it right?
@@LiftHillsandThrills how do you know I couldn't sell it on and make a profit though? The fact that they sold out in 2 mins shows there's a huge demand. It's an incredibly rare item and Nemesis is considered one of the best coasters in the UK/world a lot of people. I could put it on ebay for £500 right now and it'd probably sell very quickly.
@@UniversalStudiosGBUpdates There isn't huge demand in a niche market, they say they're limited but there's plenty more off cuts just as there are Duel blasters ready for sale. There's a huge difference between a resale market on a global scale (movie props) Vs a very niche market like coaster enthusiasts / people who want pieces of metal / ride parts. You could sell it, you might not but the comparison between the props was that the size doesn't matter but the collectors appeal is worlds apart between the two. Sentimental investments make sense for the consumer but if you think for one minute the item / construction of the display is worth £350 out of free track and a £15 (if that display) minus labour time £ then we'll have to cut the convo short. The point stands, if it means something to you then to you it's a justified purchase but it doesn't warrant parks overcharging for things that just don't have that market value.. it's like movie props that were £1000 a few years ago recently going for £50,000 at auction. Ridiculous.
Already on eBay for £2,000 😅
Wow 😂
Yeah that’s abit steep like I love her don’t get me wrong but 350!!!can understand the move stuff can’t lie I would love all the pieces you showed iconic very nice collection 🔥
Most of it’s on display now but I still leave little odds and sods here and there aha
@@LiftHillsandThrills that’s brilliant ❤️
Shocking price. By the time they've sold off even more nemesis parts the re-track will have been paid for 😂
Yup!
£350 for a slice of Nemesis track OR £250 for my full size Drayton Manor metal sign which was over the entrance for a time - I think I know which one was the better choice for me :)
Drayton has more collectors value than an off cut of scrap metal no matter what coaster it belongs too! aha
@@LiftHillsandThrills That too yeah! :D
Itd be probably be cheaper tk get bnm to build u nemesis in your garden
Absolutely
Don't hold me to this but I'm pretty sure if they sold the whole track for that much it would be £4,932,900 and that's just the rails lol
For reference the whole original neme cost 10 mill
Great vlog as always Sean, good to have a good rant every now and again!! Would I have bought a piece; NO!!!
I love a rant as you go on socials and people continue the convo on there and not in the comments. It’s great 😅 extended reach! Aha
How much was the duel blaster you bought?
I can’t remember now, it was a museum display purchase that one
Loving the title 🤣
Thanks haha
Apparently the price doesn't even include delivery, you have to go and pick it up 😂
Wow
I disagree. If they sold out quickly then the items were probably undervalued by the park, and whoever bought them can easily resell at a profit if they wish to. In that case, they can hardly say they've been 'ripped off'.
Undervalued 😂 no, for starters people buy them and then resell on eBay for profit as you say, Theres a few on there already so naturally that’s an easy purchase and resale, parks overpricing items to cash in on nostalgia is never a good look and as these are 3 times the price of the usual market value for any park selling these types of items I’d say yes.. they are ripping folks off
@@LiftHillsandThrills The best way to work out what something is worth is to sell it at an open auction and there’s your answer. I’m not saying anything about the morality about selling those pieces of track at such a high price, I’m just talking about what their actual value is. I don’t believe that Alton Towers ripped off the public any more than I think you ripped off the buyer of that bit of Star Wars plastic. Capitalism isn’t perfect but the alternatives are worse in my opinion.
I like the idea of selling this kind of merch from any park. However i think the price was a lil high.
If it was me id probable sell like 300 of them at that price and do them really nice and have all the authenticity docs with them maybe from an iconic part of the ride like the loop then id do a bog standard version of just the non iconic sections for like 50 or 75 quid each without a plinth etc.. for the general public.
Yeah if you’re paying that much presentation is important. The stands look nothing like what a premium product should be. Maybe a special gift box designed with Nemmy detailing, exclusivity, certificate inside the lid of the box. Make some bloody effort 😩
I didn’t know what this video was, but now the title is very reasonable
I'm glad you clicked all the same haha
That's some fair money they are asking people to drop. So each piece is about what? 5cm long. That's 20 pieces for every 1 meter of track. Nemesis is 716m of double sided track, so 1432m of track. They could get 28,640 pieces out of the track, at £350 each that's a tidy £10,024,000 value they are putting on the track alone.
Given that towers paid £10 million to build it in the first place (and that includes the station and landscape not just the track) they are technically asking consumers to pay more for Nemesis then what they paid for it themselves...............sorry went full nerd mode for a moment 😁
I personally wouldn't pay that much for a bit of track but if it sells (and it looks like it has) then fair play to them.
People will buy anything nowadays
Interesting points in this video. Very expensive though but your paying for the name or your able to spend. Sold out online. Paultons park are selling ride parts aswell. On there new online shop. I like the Blair Witch brand & concept. Nemsis means alot for sum.
Ride parts just aren’t a popular collectors market so the price tags are just made up by the parks with zero consideration of budget and zero reflection of rarity / reasonable collectors etiquette and value. Greed for the sake of greed
You know what, if I had had all the park experiences I want to have and had the cash spare, I would buy it.
But you know what, if people with more money than sense want to give Towers money so they can keep improving then why not I guess 😅
Even if, for me, its absolutely ridiculous.
(Sidenote, that little pot looked so medical that I was VERY relieved it was dirt. Very cool dirt mind you.)
I received that dirt for free as part of a bulk prop order from a company (even I'm not silly enough to pay for dirt aha) but I'm not a fan of upping the price for people way beyond its market value, I appreciate it means a lot to people (that's why I buy stuff after all) but keep the prices within their worth. Don't take the p**s and yeah Alton Towers will need a ridiculous amount of $$ to improve. Gloomy Wood and Forbidden Valley are glimpses into the future but it'll be a long long long time I feel until the entire park gets up to the right standard and I feel by then Universal will be here, thriving and showing everyone how it's done and done properly
@LiftHillsandThrills Yeah, that's sort of why I'm not anti relieving silly people of their money. It's unscrupulous and cynical but if others are gonna fund a better park for the rest of us then I'm cool with it 😂
No merlin park will be able to keep up with Universal, though, but personally I think Chessington is going to struggle the most, even though I think in some ways it's currently the best of the Merlin parks (though not my favourite).
I love these rant videos I have been missing them haha 🤣. I would rather buy the Lego UCS Harry Potter hogwarts express then buy that and both of them are around the same price 🙂
haha everyone says the same but I've been quiet muted lately with nothing much of note winding me up haha
@@LiftHillsandThrillsyeah I get that haha. It’s made my day seeing that though 🤣
Even at £280 after pass discount it’s still extortionate and tbh it’s taking advantage out of those who want it for the sentimental value. I managed to get one but only because I have a savings pot just for merch and not been to any parks since October last year. Been a very special coaster for me since I first rode it 11 years ago so I couldn’t resist. I think the reason they stuck a £350 price tag on was because people are buying bolts for £100/£150 and at least people can tell the track (albeit a tiny section of the running rail) is from Nemesis. Still way overpriced though! I doubt they had many to sell with them selling out in a few minutes.
They'll keep selling out, they must be rubbing their hands together
I wonder what specialist item they’ll sell next... Maybe a section of the Skyride cable for £500 or a stone from the Hex queue line for £150 🤔😂
Not sure I really agree that there's much difference between the Nemesis track and the movie memorabilia examples you showed. Will there be more people interested in buying movie memorabilia? Potentially, depending on the movie - but just like the Nemmy track 99% of people would in no way be interested in paying £350 for that jar of dirt, for example.
But, the track did sell out in minutes - so that tells me that it was indeed worth at least £350 for the amount of it that was made available by AT. Only time will tell whether it loses or gains value from there. My general thoughts would be you shouldn't buy any sort of 'collectable' on the assumption that it'll go up in value, because it might not.
Examples of stuff being worse (dirt and a piece of rubber) yet still commanding an audience willing to pay for it in a vast quantity as opposed to a small minority of people who collect coaster stuff. Movie memorabilia is a billion dollar business you only have to look at prop store auctions / profiles in history auctions as proof of that. There isn’t mass appeal for coaster stuff and there never will be.
Movie memorabilia NEVER loses value, it’s always a break even resale or a profit. I’ve been buying and reselling for close to 10 years now and never made a loss on items purchased. I can’t say the same for a piece of metal that a very small minority of people want let alone would pay more for but at the same time, if you want it and it means something to you and you have cash to splash then skys the limit. Passion purchases for the win hence them capitalising on every penny of it
@@LiftHillsandThrills When you say movie memorabilia never loses value it makes me feel like I should invoke the old Financial Advisor warning 'Past performance is not indicative of future gains, you may get back less than you invest'. 🤣
I just don't think it's possible to really say anything that is being sold as purely a decorative item is a 'rip off' if it does sell for that price - because then any decorative item is a rip off if it is being sold for more than the raw materials cost.
And just for the avoidance of doubt, I'm not trying to justify a purchase I have made I have no intention whatsoever on paying any more than scrap value for a bit of scrap metal! 🤣
I’m no expert so I initially expected the price to be £500+ 😅
I'm no expert either but god damn! haha people would have still paid it
I think they had a look at how much the bolts go on eBay and realised people are willing to pay a lot more. Some of them go for upwards of 250 quid. I think they are trying to avoid the scalpers by putting it at an already unreasonable price instead of letting people bid up to an unreasonable price themselves
Mad
It's paying for Nemesis Reborn so AT got themselves a free B&M invert.
hahah right?!
Well said mate I agree towers is a joke really want every penny just even have to pay to park my rant over that made a lot of sense that video did
Thanks for watching 😀
If you ever get burgled the thieves will have a field day 😂😂
They wouldn't know what they were stealing for starters haha need those COA's haha
I need to sell my G-Force Wheels 🤣
You do! 😂
I was about to buy for £280 with map discount, but the 1 minute (if that) I took after release to fill in the details was too long 😂. Now I'm glad I saved my money tbh. Why can't they just sell more of them, maybe even make them smaller, and lower the price? Then more proper enthusiasts (not scalpers) can get one and merlin still makes the same profit. There must be about 3000ft of rail, yet they make what 10 or 20 pieces I'd guess? There's no reason to make them so limited.
Make them limited capitalise on the scarcity and then release more at a later date when folks have forgotten about it. Expect to see Duel blasters for sale again soon as they were also ‘limited’ when they dropped
@@LiftHillsandThrills Yeah you're probably right they will. I got a job at a park recently, gonna work my way up to merlin ceo and sort them out haha

Great business sense in every dept to make profit but sadly we suffer
the value mate is going to be mental it’s reasonable
It's 3 times the price of reasonable ride parts... but people will pay anything if they want it. That's not the point. The point is it being overcharged in the first place, there's enough people out there with cash to burn on scrap metal as it means something to them who would pay for it with a 0 slapped on the end, still doesn't mean it's not worth that much nor was it produced for that much and it certainly isn't 'limited' just like the Duel Blasters.
