Traktor's detailed waveforms are superior and offer better visual feedback. This is important for DJs who play with lots of music requests they may not be intimately familiar with (mobile/wedding DJs) to quickly get a read on things. Helpful for the folks with tinnitus/hyperacusis too in loud environments. Rekordbox's waveforms look like an old Atari game in comparison. If Traktor Pro would get better playlist management it'd really kick things up a notch. I think the lack of smart playlists is Traktor's greatest weakness relative to RB, aside from the whole rekordbox/CDJ ecosystem thing. Even the old Traktor DJ on the iPhone had next song suggestions as a feature; odd they would leave that out here on their flagship software.
I use Rekordbox DJ at this moment and tried Traktor a few times. Both are good imo. It's reallty depends how you wanna play, if want a lot more creativity, traktor. But if want just only play and keep everything organized and have the option to export to USB, Rekordbox.
I switched from Traktor to Rekordbox last year. I am soooooo happy! The song library management is just brilliant! The intelligent playlists + the tick-box style song tagging (which you can edit and personalize) makes Rekordbox my favorite software.
This gives me some hope because everytime I step up to Rekordbox decks at a house party I end up just walking away after 15 minutes of mixing because I'm shocked at how stupid some of the functions are compared to Traktor.
I have been a Traktor dj for 10+ years. It is by far my FAVORITE dj software. While I have used Serato and played around with Rekordbox....it wasn’t as refined as it appears to have become now. I still have my doubts about it. I had REALLY come close to switching to Rekordbox when the DJJ1100 controller can out along with the Light controller I was OooooooH close to pulling the trigger. The NI came out with the Kontrol S4MK3 and I jump on that!! I am pretty comfortable with DMX programming. PLUS, ADJ and Chauvet of come out with some pretty easy devices such as the airstream bridge that make doing lighting so easy.
I started digital DJ-ing in 2012. At the time, there was Traktor and Serato. I downloaded both programs to try out. Both had free trials but Serato needed hardware to make it work and for some reason, my hardware (DDJ-Wego) was not recognized by Serato, so I went with Traktor. To that end, I purchased several Traktor controllers including the S4 Mk2, X1, Z1, F1, then the S8. One of Traktor's shortcomings was dealing with older tracks that had varying bpms. There was no way to beat-map that kind of track. Missing the jog wheels of the S4, I decided to buy a DDJ-SX2 controller from Pioneer DJ which worked with Traktor, but also introduced me to Serato DJ Pro and the then Rekordbox 2.0 software. I started DJ-ing with Serato on a few gigs to give it a try and eventually made it my main software, connecting it with my DDJ-SX2, as well as a DJM-900NXS mixer and 2x CDJ-800 CDJs to act as my controllers at a club I was working at. At this point, I was using Serato about 75% of the time and Traktor the other 25%, with my SX2. I got on a call with a dude from DJ-Tech Tools who told me about Rekordbox and that it was kind of a cross between Serato and Traktor. I decided to give it a try and since it was already compatible with my Pioneer hardware (including the club setup), became a tool I used more and more often. Of note, play-lists, cue-points, beat-gridding, key detection had to be redone as there was no way of importing them (Rekord buddy does a bad job). Happily, these tasks are done in the background as you use the software (at least the automated tools for key detection and beat-grids) so it wasn't so painful. At this point, Traktor is barely on my radar and I used it only occasionally for nostalgic purposes. Traktor was also in desperate need for an update (there were regular updates to Rekordbox and Serator and it seemed like N-I was abandoning their dj platform)... Then along came the Pioneer DDJ-1000. A controller with full size jog-wheels and deeper integration with Rekordbox along with DJM-style effects and more of a club workflow. I fell in love with this controller, and was forced to decide to move 100% to Rekordbox. I did that for about a year, and then Traktor 3 came out which I tried but meh... it was still Traktor. Serato 3 came out with it's stand-alone mode (albeit paid stand-alone mode) and at this point, I am flipping between Serato (on my DJM gear) and Rekordbox on my DDJ-1000 controller. I hope the folks at NI can strengthen the library functions and make their software the diamond and leader it once was. Version 3 is not that version for me. Perhaps Traktor DJ will fill in the gaps, but it seems destined for beginner DJs.
Only in the US. Traktor is the Major Software in Europe. I've been using Traktor since the software was part of Stanton's Final Scratch. As a Vinyl DJ since '81, I'm far from a Beginner. I think it's appropriate to mention that you can export your music directly from RB to USB devices for playing on their hardware that is almost in every club worldwide. Another small benefit, but could be a life saver, in RB, is that you can switch to another compatible controller or hardware setup without even restarting your computer. At least if you keep your RB updated as recommended. A third thing that is exclusive to RB, is that if you have your music exported to a USB device, you can connect this device to any computer running RB DJ and play that music, analyzed and with all your meta data intact. Very handy if you visit a friend who uses a Pioneer/RB DJ solution, and you can go B2B just as if it were a hardware setup.
I think I started using Traktor software in 2007 because I thought it was head and shoulders better than Serato. Traktors interface compared to seratos was like comparing Dos to Windows. Serato was and still is very simple and basic and limited. Loved Traktor but just recently picked up a DDJ 800 because I like the 2 deck setup because I never need 4 decks and the smaller setup appeals to me. It came with Rekordbox. I used the mapping for the DDJ 1000 to get Traktor to work with my DDJ 800. After using both for awhile and playing with it with Traktor and RB I found that RB sounded much better overall than when I used Traktor software. The music was much louder at the same volume and more dynamic sounding. Not sure why. I'm huge on what sounds the best. Because of that I've started using RB and not using Traktor. RB also has a faster response time between the software and controller. I can definitely tell a slight difference. Maybe the latency on RB is lower than Traktor. I still prefer the interface on Traktor and the way it looks over RB or any other software but I'm liking RB but if they both sounded identical and the latency and response time was equal i would prefer Traktor but I now choose RB because of better sound and tighter response. Also I don't know why Traktor doesn't offer up more mappings for more controllers. I've never understood that. I have a feeling Pioneer is going to continue improving and upgrading RB until it is comparable or better than Traktor. We'll see.
Thanks for weighing in, sounds like you've definitely taken the time to work out what's best for you! They all do the job but having a software you're comfortable with an know inside out is great :)
I'm going with Traktor for several reasons: 1. I have Maschine Mikro MK3 and the 32-key midi controller which I can apparently use along with Traktor and the programs can integrate with each other. This gives me more options. 2. The software seems better 3. Native Instruments gear has better build quality.
I am still using Traktor 17 years till today and I know it very well 90%. But I also have tried serato for one reason, Video Mix. Now I am Trying Rekordbox and what I want is to have one software that has both Music and and video capabilities with all other features that Traktor has ( Midi Mappings, Excellent Grid stability and good sound Quality and Effects.
Ive been using Traktor for about 3 years now, with a dated first gen Traktor S2 (You cant even see the lights or glow from the buttons with any light in the room.) I dont know if that is an issue for anyone else. So I thought I would explore Pioneer's world and see what they had to offer. the DDJ-1000 seems really appealing. But now its time for new software... which can be hard to make the switch without trying first. I think they may have a 5 day demo or something but its not enough time. I like this video for showing me differences. That really helped me. Rekordbox seems pretty cool. this has pushed me towards Pioneer.
I've been using Traktor for many years now, however on a DDJ-SX with a NI F1 supporting it ! I love Pioneer hardware, but Traktor software. For me the feature that pushed me towards Traktor was , & still is, the Remix Decks. I add different layers of beats in my gigs on top of tons of sampling. Haven't tried RB yet, but I'm really tempted , as I can test it on DDJ-SX , however I'm terrified of porting over my library over to RB. I've spent countless hours setting up Cue points, loops, fix grids, etc.... I know there's a software out there that claims to transfer the libraries, but I'm not overly convinced with it.
So much wasted space when Traktor shows 2 effects at the top. You could easily fit two more in there horizontally. Both software should let us have a fully customizable modular GUI and be done with it already.
What would you highly recommend if I’m playing tech house and/or minimal deep tech? I’m part of a Dj school now and seen both programs. Don’t really know which one to get. By the time I asked my instructor, he said he’d get the Traktor because of its versatile features but it seems that wherever I go there is a pioneer being used to present live performances. Hardly seen Traktor on clubs. So if I’m to choose, I can honestly said I don’t know which one to go for... still have a lot of doubts regarding which one to get. I’m now using a traktor s2 to practice and initiate but for further knowledge on the djing world, what would best prepare me for the shows?
Traktor user here (more than 10 years), but also using rekordbox to export music to USB sticks. Pioneer DJ equipments are present in every club. It's nice to just carry few usb sticks (some backup sticks included), and able to play. This comfort makes me hate setting up TA6, cables etc.
Excellent video! I currently use the old Traktor software. While I really enjoy using Traktor, I really like the library organizer and smart playlists rekordbox has to offer. Also I would like to have rekordbox because Pioneer DJ has the industry standard kit and I would love to be able to transfer my playlists to a usb stick and play without a laptop and with all my cue points saved. To me that’s very powerful! While I love the effects on Traktor software, Pioneer has it’s effects on both software and hardware which is a huge bonus if you don’t want to overly tax your computer or dj using real vinyl. I really think rekordbox is a smart choice plus it just has the features I would use most! Thanks again for this informative video!
I'm a Traktor user for a decade now and really don't want to change, but i'm seriously considering it! I need new a big 4 deck controller to replace my ddj-T1 and the s4 mk3 is not gonna cut it... I'm very interessed on the DDJ-1000 but I don't like the the rekordbox DJ environment. It's kinda limited, and sometimes on clubs I can connect cdj's mixers, effects controllers, midi clock out... everything to traktor and it works perfectly! The bad thing is that i really need video and DMX... with rekorbox would be more limited on setup cofig and devices but maybe a better experience to to the crowd... And that's my big indecision!! Connect a xone 96 with 4 traktor decks, with cdj's controlling them, route the effects of traktor and some external ones, sync'd with midi of traktor, on a multi platform analog digital perfect marriage, or use a classic DDJ controller or djm mixer and cdjs but with videoclips and perfect dmx lighting?? what to do... traktor 3 was such a big dissapointment :/
The DDJ 1000 paired with the RB-DMX box can do it all with set up time only taking a few minutes and the advantage of controlling everything from the DDJ 1000. It is a very powerful combo.
I find the iTunes integration on Rekordbox is much better than Traktor. Also, Rekorbox has flexible beatgrids. But Traktor is still unmatched on MIDI flexibility. There's so much I love about it!
Not entirely accurate, you can isolate frequencies on FX when used in a single slot - E.g for Delay you can control the Wet/Dry, *Filter*, Feedback and Rate
i want the dj software to write ques on the mp3, like pcdj red vintage software, which is very accurate in analysis, if i have my music collections on a external drive, i dont need to re analyze or set cues again, without bringing my own laptop, for now im using traktor 3
One aspect where Traktor really has the edge over Rekordbox, or any DJ software for that matter, is its tweakability and custom mappings. It even allows you to assign macros. Another unique Traktor feature not mentioned here is its ability to work with stems. Some Traktor hardware like the Kontrol S8 and Kontrol F1 have actually been specifically designed with stems and remix decks in mind.
rolf ski I’m bummed to say, though, that Stems seem dead. It was such a great concept, but NI never really created an easy way to open the format to other companies, and combined with the popularity of Rekordbox and having your whole record crate on a USB stick, Stems just never took off and, as a result, aren’t being produced by artists I’m interested in
I would say traktor. The interface of traktor is very simple with all the things that we need, like the tempo fader. Now for managing the library, rekordbox seems better.
Sure but not in any meaningful, quantifiable way - check out forums and you'll find endless debates about how each software sounds. The best thing to do is use good quality files with a decent soundcard and speakers and then not worry about it 👍
What gear are you looking to use? If it's a controller you don't need to buy a soundcard as it's in-built just buy a professional level controller. High quality files in my eyes start at 320 mp3's and go up to Lossless
I’ve bought a Allen and Heath xone 62, some Adam speakers and I’ve got a apple laptop so far. I’ve invested a lot in the speakers so looking to buy good equipment with regards to sound quality.
Cool you've got a great setup there so nothing to worry about! There will be about three people who actually cares about the sound quality when you're gigging so don't focus on that over delivering great music
Rekordbox user, definitely my personal preferred software, although I haven't used the latest traktor 3, just seen example videos. I'm sure part of my choice is due to the hardware lineup for rekordbox, which is definitely more robust when looking at natively supported controllers. Of course, I also love that all my rekordbox music preparation works seamlessly with pioneer media players as well, which is great. I am interested in trying out traktor, the effects have always been top notch, and I think for controllerists it gives more customization than any other software.
In 2012, I started digital DJing with Traktor. I mostly perform at weddings and special events and travel a lot. In this case, small controllers are my biggest friend. I have been using s4 mk2 for 4 years. But now I want to replace it with mk3 or maybe I can make a change with ddj sx2 -sx3 ... I want to get suggestions from guys who are wedding and traveler djs and have experience with the traktor and RB
I started my CPU djing 5 years back using traktor. I went to Serato after traktor was not playing some of my tracks. I am now using Rekordbox & Serato. Rekordbox more than the other. Rekorboxdj is really good. I dont care about the FX. i hear that is why people choose Traktor . But the DVS tighness in traktor and mapping is a bigger draw for me than the fx. DVS in rekordbox is smooth. and the cdj 850 stills works in HID mode. xp1 is a fantastic controller for performance DJing, which i like to do . I can not go backwards . My advice is get a program that gives you the most possibility to make your DJ life work smoothly.
I used Traktor 2 & 3 and Cross 3 & 4 for 5 years now. I prefer Cross overall, but Traktor has a better FX. Also, it is easier to create a custom midi map with Cross. But most importantly, cross can synch with Rekordbox. You may not know, but Mixvibe, the company behind Cross, helped Pioneer with the development of RB :)
What I prefer in Traktor is the personalization. I can turn off the visual feedback I don't want, to improve my listening skills. For example the bpm! I put the set up the way it would be with vinyls - only using my wav files. I just got a pioneer controller that came with rekordbox but I guess I'll stick with traktor.
I use Traktor and love it. I Started with Ableton Live but felt it was cheating so went with Traktor because it felt similar. I would use Rekordbox but I'm not going to pay $10 a month for a subscription
The one feature that traktor have which all other DJ software need is "fade in" and "fade out" marker. And so far the best library I have use without including virtual DJ software since I do not have it, is the RekordBox library. Also I think Rekordbox memory cues are a waste of time. That feature on Rekordbox should be change to something more useful.
"Memory cues" are there because it's one way Pioneer DJ gear has done this for a long time, I think they don't want to remove this feature for this reason.
@@digitaldjtips but you agree it can be use in a better way. Why doing to jobs to accomplish the same thing. The minute you set a cue point that should be enough to have an counter to the next cue point if there are any other on the way form. I think they should change memory cue point to fade in/fade out markers.
The memory cue points are very helpful marking positions in the track like breakdowns and bildups, where you don't really want a hot cue. I use the hot cues for intros, outros, drops, and saved loops. I use the memory cue points for all other transitions in the song. By utilizing Rekordbox like this, you almost don't need to use your headphones.
Memory Cues are pretty helpful. I use them a lot because it is the easiest way to jump through a track. When I do live mashups on only 2 CDJs, I can go to a build up or a drop very quickly and that is very important. You can also use them for so many other things. And they work on every CDJ even the older ones. On the CDJ2000NXS and all other older CDJs you only have access to 3 or even no Hot Cues, so it is definitely one of the best features in rekordbox.
T3 is superior...... feel free to disagree but for me RB's interface, waveforms and overall use ability is not intuitive and a looks like a complete mess on screen, unlike traktors very simple clean layout and visibility with all the features nicely at your finger tips. RB is just a nightmare in comparison
traktor lacks the great export features of rekordbox for external devices like usb sticks for cdj's etc. I switched from traktor to rekordbox enjoying the ease of use together with its intuitive interface of rekordbox and look to its with the large devices family of pioneer.
The real issue with traktor is the gear it supports . They really should had made tsi for a lot of gear and sold them as extras within the license key to stop fraud . IM running a denon not pioneer because of this . Because I got a factory tsi
I prefer the functionality of Traktor, but use Rekordbox now. Why? Well, over the last 10 years I've had 3 NI audio interface/controllers (Audio 2, Kontrol S4, Kontrol S4 MkII), and every Windows version of Traktor along the way, not to mention many Windows laptops, of varying specs (but all with decent CPU and RAM), all optimised for live music performance. On every single variation I've had reliability issues with Traktor, from audio drop-outs, to total crashes. Even though CPU load, and RAM usage wasn't being stretched at all. For context, I've used Ableton Live without a single issue on every laptop, with different audio interfaces. Traktor is actually a lot more unreliable with NI's own audio interfaces, in my experience, but would be *almost* acceptably reliable with the S4, or S4 MkII and a separate, non-NI audio interface. Because of this I'd only ever use Traktor at home, or at friends' parties - for gigs I'd just use the venues' own kit. Then 18 months ago a friend said, "try Rekordbox, it's nearly as good as Traktor, and I've never had any issues with its reliability." So I did, and in 18 months I've not even had the slightest of glitches. It's been 100% reliable. The only thing I miss from Traktor and the S4/MkII is how you set up and trigger loops, and how to skip ahead a fixed number of beats (both with rotary encoders, instead of buttons, or pads). But honestly, I had to rack my brains to remember that, 'cos I haven't missed it that much.
Holy cr*p guys this review is BIASED!! 3:47 "Both Rekordbox and Traktor feature strong MIDI mapping capabilities". This is a lie. Rekordbox MIDI mapping system is complete and utter garbage. The review only cherry-picks the things that make Rekordbox look equal or better than Traktor and makes false statements. Not very impressed gents...

Agreed re song recommendations.
rekordbox has different modes of visualisation to choose from :-)
Totally agree about smart playlists. How hard is it? People have been asking for ages!
@@lwpweb He probably don't know that

TRAKTOR all the way... especially for the flexibility and accuracy

Either will do the job, and once you can manually beatmix, you can DJ on any system anyway. But if you want to DJ from USB in clubs, go for Rekordbox.
You're welcome, thanks for sharing your thoughts too.
Is it possible to synchronize the bpm from the recordbox with the drum machine through midi?
Indeed, and getting more powerful all the time...
I find the iTunes integration on Rekordbox is much better than Traktor. Also, Rekorbox has flexible beatgrids. But Traktor is still unmatched on MIDI flexibility. There's so much I love about it!
I love Traktor but why it still doesn't have EQ isolation for FX. Pioneer can provide FX assignment to a specific frequency of the song.
Not entirely accurate, you can isolate frequencies on FX when used in a single slot - E.g for Delay you can control the Wet/Dry, *Filter*, Feedback and Rate
Guys Can you hepl me with a Traktor???
Where I can find Preparetion MODE ??
Thanks
Rekordbox also always you to use audio interfaces like Audio8DJ
i want the dj software to write ques on the mp3, like pcdj red vintage software, which is very accurate in analysis, if i have my music collections on a external drive, i dont need to re analyze or set cues again, without bringing my own laptop, for now im using traktor 3
Thanks for watching James
One aspect where Traktor really has the edge over Rekordbox, or any DJ software for that matter, is its tweakability and custom mappings. It even allows you to assign macros. Another unique Traktor feature not mentioned here is its ability to work with stems. Some Traktor hardware like the Kontrol S8 and Kontrol F1 have actually been specifically designed with stems and remix decks in mind.
rolf ski I’m bummed to say, though, that Stems seem dead. It was such a great concept, but NI never really created an easy way to open the format to other companies, and combined with the popularity of Rekordbox and having your whole record crate on a USB stick, Stems just never took off and, as a result, aren’t being produced by artists I’m interested in
You can always use XTRAX STEMS to make your own...
@@digitaldjtips But at that point, I just use remix decks....
Fair enough!
I would say traktor. The interface of traktor is very simple with all the things that we need, like the tempo fader. Now for managing the library, rekordbox seems better.
Fair points :)
Does anyone know if these programs effect the sound quality at all?
Sure but not in any meaningful, quantifiable way - check out forums and you'll find endless debates about how each software sounds. The best thing to do is use good quality files with a decent soundcard and speakers and then not worry about it 👍
Digital DJ Tips could you recommend a high quality sound card and what are high quality files?
Traktor and Rekordbox are the only and best softwares for DJing........ ( very good comparison )
better than serato?
@@jannik3475 yes
Although traktor is great, rekordbox is the better choice in my opinion. I’m currently transitioning from serato to rekordbox and I love it.
why leave serato?
Rekordbox user, definitely my personal preferred software, although I haven't used the latest traktor 3, just seen example videos.
I'm sure part of my choice is due to the hardware lineup for rekordbox, which is definitely more robust when looking at natively supported controllers. Of course, I also love that all my rekordbox music preparation works seamlessly with pioneer media players as well, which is great.
I am interested in trying out traktor, the effects have always been top notch, and I think for controllerists it gives more customization than any other software.
I like the Traktor 👌
Rekordbox DDJ 1000! Game over 🔥
Maybe give the Prime 4 ago and see how it stacks up...I'm thinking that's a game changer. :)
Check out the Roland DJ-707M or the new Prime Go :)
🔥🔥🔥🔥 wow thats a really comparation !!! Nice work !!! Excelent Channel !!! 🔥👍✅❗🇨🇴😍🤩😎🔼
Can you do a head to head review of Traktor Pro 3 with Cross DJ 4?
Probably not, there aren't enough Cross users among our audience for us to justify that - but we'll keep an eye on things in case they change!
I use Rekordbox with Pioneer controller. Only con is there no support for add instruments like Roland TR-8S.....
What about ableton Link?
In Traktor Pro 3 it works fine.
But does it work in Rekordbox?
Who Knows?
What I prefer in Traktor is the personalization. I can turn off the visual feedback I don't want, to improve my listening skills. For example the bpm!
I put the set up the way it would be with vinyls - only using my wav files.
I just got a pioneer controller that came with rekordbox but I guess I'll stick with traktor.
Nice one :)
I use Traktor and love it. I Started with Ableton Live but felt it was cheating so went with Traktor because it felt similar. I would use Rekordbox but I'm not going to pay $10 a month for a subscription
You don't need to pay a subscription for Rekordbox Jeremy you can still buy it for a one off payment, glad you're happy with Traktor though :)
@@digitaldjtips Does Rekordbox have an onboard recorder?
Yep!
Exactly, I think they're a legacy feature that Pioneer DJ won't remove fr that reason.
Brother recorbox have noting compare with traktor pro 3.2. Traktor is simply at different level. The new Traktor pro 3.2 is awesome.
Glad you're enjoying it!
T3 is superior...... feel free to disagree but for me RB's interface, waveforms and overall use ability is not intuitive and a looks like a complete mess on screen, unlike traktors very simple clean layout and visibility with all the features nicely at your finger tips. RB is just a nightmare in comparison
4 TECHNO Traktor pro 3 is the best 🎶🎶
Awesome :)
traktor lacks the great export features of rekordbox for external devices like usb sticks for cdj's etc. I switched from traktor to rekordbox enjoying the ease of use together with its intuitive interface of rekordbox and look to its with the large devices family of pioneer.
Rekordbox is definitely handy for that
TR3 offers better EQs and almost perfect autoCUE! RB feels over-complicated sometimes.
Thanks for watching!
The real issue with traktor is the gear it supports . They really should had made tsi for a lot of gear and sold them as extras within the license key to stop fraud . IM running a denon not pioneer because of this . Because I got a factory tsi
Yes it'd be great to see more controllers supported
Traktor👍👍👍
Cool :)
I use mainly Traktor but Traktor doesn't have the start/stop turntable adjust!!! why?!! its 2019!!!
Mac Joseph it does, it’s an effect. Turntable FX
Then 18 months ago a friend said, "try Rekordbox, it's nearly as good as Traktor, and I've never had any issues with its reliability."
So I did, and in 18 months I've not even had the slightest of glitches.
Glad you've found something that works well for you now Dean! Thanks for watching
Yeah 100% on the loop function of traktor.
Totally agree
Rekordbox WIN
👌
in this days, the video mix is a requirement
Holy cr*p guys this review is BIASED!! 3:47 "Both Rekordbox and Traktor feature strong MIDI mapping capabilities". This is a lie. Rekordbox MIDI mapping system is complete and utter garbage. The review only cherry-picks the things that make Rekordbox look equal or better than Traktor and makes false statements. Not very impressed gents...
Joe has no reason to be biased, at least, not intentionally.
