@TehUberTrekkie Actually, the unstable vortex WOULD cast a shadow just like a flame does. Even though it's emitting it's own light it's still opaque and thus blocking any other light sources in the area.
@loganonamac7 The gate on Earth was discovered without the DHD, which I believe was taken by the Goa'uld when they abandoned Earth. This meant that for the SGC to use the gate, it had to be dialed manually by unlocking the inner ring by supplying power and then manually turning the inner ring to dial an address.
@TehUberTrekkie Thanks for the compliment. I went and looked at this video ("Stargate - Kawoosh" here on UA-cam), which is a montage of gate activations from the show. In that video you can see that the kawoosh does cast a shadow, not as dark as the one on mine, but it does cast a shadow on the ground and itself, like a cloud. Also, when dialing out with the DHD I don't recall ever seeing the 7th chevron lock before activation, but I could be wrong there.
@loganonamac7 Also the germans had the Earth DHD then it was passed to the russians later. It was in the 48 hours i think. Also i read it some where that the earth dialing computer instruct the motors in the gate to turn the inner ring, i think the anchients used some what similar method to manual dialing.
It's dialing Earth, as if you were on Chulak. As for the kawoosh, I tried my best to follow the "Tutorial - Stargate Kawoosh" video here on UA-cam, so I didn't need any particle effects for any of the animation. The disengage was done using a ramp on the transparency. I used one plane for the stable event horizon, and separate NURBS geometry for the actual kawoosh. I guess I could send you a message through UA-cam to describe what I did a little better if you'd like. Hope this helped.
@TheShadow1138 They did not take the dhd. One was discovered along with the antartica gate and the other, a few years in egypt after the egyptin gate. it was revealed that it had been kept in some secret german base during the war.
I used an image of the gate on a plane, the image is called "Stargate_Render.png". I scaled the plane to 35.608 in the x and z directions and set the shading to "x-ray" so I could work on top of the plane and still see the image. I used two polygon pipes, one for the inner and one for the outer track (I set each to have 39 sections, giving one section for each glyph). Using the image really helps with making and placing the chevrons. Hope that helps.
@loganonamac7 It's like those TV's you used to be able to buy that could only go to video mode using the remote, except even the ancients knew that was a dumb idea and planned ahead. Those DHD's are easy to break as well...they must have known.
@TheShadow1138 allright, but if the inner ring is only for manually dialing, then why did the ancients build an inner ring in the first place. I mean they couldn't have known that eventually in the future it would be discovered without a dhd and would HAVE to dial manually
@loganonamac7 Because if off world gates spin too there would not be much of a episode, there would just be a hole episode consisting of the gate just doing its thing which for me never gets old :D LOL i hope that answers your question.
@loganonamac7 I would look at the manual dialing capability as a failsafe that the Ancients would have built in just in case a stargate's DHD became inoperable. With a manual dialing failsafe the gate would not be rendered useless in the event that the DHD is inoperable. A real-world example could be how most, if not all, devices that have a remote control (the DHD is essentially a remote) which can be operated manually, at least to an extent, should the remote break.
@IxProvenxI destiny stargates - the first stargate prototypes. milky way - second stargate prototype. pegasus - final stargate production. notice the vatly different dhd for each three to operate them, from basic (destiny) to advanced (pegasus) computer systems.
Before my life goes to crap, I would like to walk through one of these and maybe disappear or fly away or leave the time I'm in. Not quite enjoying this world AT ALL.
I know I'm just some stranger on the internet, and don't know what you're going through right now, but I feel like I need to say something. I know the world right now seems like one terrible thing after another is happening and that it feels hopeless sometimes, or like it will never get better. I've felt that way some days and I'll probably feel that way some days in the future, but the important thing to remember is that the bad will not last forever. As bad as it gets sometimes there will always be joyous days. It may sometimes seem like those days will never come, but the hope and knowledge that they will come is something for which we should persevere. I know there is no "magic bullet" to make everything better, but I know that finding someone to talk to, even if it is just to vent can be helpful. I apologize if I've read too much into your comment, my goal was to help, if only a little.
@@TheShadow1138 Thanks thank you I really appreciate that my friend yeah I'm just dealing with a lot I'm very frustrated I feel like I've been just crapped on by I don't know I don't get along with anybody and re late to anybody everybody I know doesn't want to listen to the things that I have to say and I understand it's too shall pass but I'm kind of kind of buried here and I appreciate you listening and responding taking the time out to say if you kind words and be kind I appreciate that. @@JohnBrown722so I certainly understand the feeling of being buried by obligations, responsibilities, and expectations (of others and of myself), though as you said it may be difficult for me to fully understand what you're going through. Sometimes when I feel swamped, or buried, I start to doubt myself, we really can be our own worst critic. I know for certain that if there is something we don't want to do then being told we have to do it just makes it that much worse, if that makes sense. I've always been told that if you can honestly say that you have done your best at anything you do, then that is all that anyone can ask. I tell this to my students when they get discouraged or feel buried by their classwork, and to my sister whenever she feels the same. One thing that I do when I start to feel buried is that my mind seems to gravitate towards and start listing all of the things that I have to do, no matter how far into the future those things may be and it makes me feel even more buried, discouraged, and downright scared that I won't be able to make it or do it all because it's just so much. I obviously don't know if any of this is similar to what you're experiencing, but maybe there are similarities to which you can relate and know that you are not alone.
@harkeill You are correct, I must have completely forgotten about the Russians ending up with the Giza DHD.

where is it dialing? and how did you make the kawoosh and when it disengage? particle effects?
THX for your time
BTW stargate/maya rules!!!!
Why is it that the gate only spins when earth dials (which slows it down), but other planets can dial 10 times faster without the gate having to spin?
@skateurleo35 Le logiciel que j'ai utilisé était Autodesk Maya. (I believe this is the correct way to say it in French.)
Why the kawoosh do shadow?
@TehUberTrekkie No problem :P You're the second person to make that mistake I found!
