That's pretty freaking brilliant. got to give you credit. I've built a lot of things with legos, but I don't think I've ever built anything that awesome.
At first I was really confused. The gate wasn't open and yet I saw a world through the portal. Then after you open the gate it dawned on me. The portal is a mirror and that strange world is your unmade bed. 😮 ❤ 🎉 😅

This kinda remembers me the teleporters from No Man's Sky where u can travel from a planet to another while writting a specific code on it while finding it with the monoliths
I think that 2 "first surface" mirrors from a projector + have the leds glued over (to occlude)/blend the light would really make that portal opening go over the edge. :) nice work.
@@xgen8k well I can't give you an image reference since I haven't had a first surface mirror in a long time... I dabbled with a table similar to your Stargate with the portal effect. I know that first surface mirrors have no double image because the silver surface is on top of the glass rather than behind it. And I would just imagine that if the LEDs were covered in a strip of opaque hot glue, that would blend the portal effect very well between two first surface mirrors, without leaving any noticeable gap between the refracted images. There's a lot of videos on how to make your own first surface mirrors on UA-cam. I also imagine you could pack a lot more LEDs inside that circle to really fill out the light ring. I hope that description helps... Your a heck of a lot further that I ever got in quality, but I did learn a few things along the way when my table was finished. If I could only tighten the optical tolerances on the mirrors and fill in more of the gap with blended light rather than intermittent LEDs, my suggestions to you! Best of luck!!
Yooo, I was knowing it from my childhood, but that is insane! 😮 keep it up, hope it will work some day with real portals and in lifesize, that is totally cool!
If you build a second one of these, and hook them to each other through a cellular connection, that would make an awesome phone system. The receiving Stargate of course needs to do the incoming wormhole thing to accept the call. Dial the gate to your friend's house, wormhole opens up, and you can talk to each other like they do on the show. :D
I'm part of a community where are multiple people with this gate, slightly different: thestargateproject.com/cartouche/ . The gates share a VPN that we call subspace, and we can dial each other. This is embedded in the software received together with the STL files. See the site for more.
@@xgen8k you hear about stuff like this and then wonder why the franchise ended, and we still haven't gotten a real revival. I'm not counting Origins, or that AI script tableread that's behind a paywall that doesn't have any other content that I care about.
You improved the vortex effect relative to the Krystian version. I'm working on an SGU version based partly on Krystian works. It's interesting to see that other people follow his path. Red motors is a nice touch too by the way!
@@xgen8k I made a prototype meant to include an event horizon like yours, but I don't have the material yet to do experiment (mirror +one way mirror). My current prototype is too thick for my taste (1 inch thickness , 21 cm diameter). I wonder, if I put my mirrors not far enough from leds if it will cause problems (like not get the effect). Did you run some experiments on mirror distance relative to leds? Worst case I will order material and run my own experiment before cutting the acrylic.
@@maxounette-jv7dj if the finished product diameter will be bigger, than the current thickness would seem ok. i don't know if you have Krystian's stargate files, the way he incorporated the mirror is very good, right at the front. He built supports for the mirrors and led strip inside the inner ring gate parts. In the question about the mirror distance, the effect should be fine but if you place it at the back of the gate, the inside plastic leading to the mirror edge will take away from the visual effect/impression.
So far this is the best I've seen of the stargate. Maybe add a burst from a fog or smoke machine piped through the rings to create the burst coming out when the lights come on in the inside would give the effect of the event horizon expanding outward like in the movies/series. Don't know if it would work or not but just a thought.
In the center where the mirror is, there could be a thin round glass tank like from an aquarium. Fill it with 90% alcohol to reduce bubbling. Place 45 degree angled air jets inside to swirl the clear alcohol in a spiral.
A screen behind the two way Mirrors could be a cool addition also in my opinion. Let you see into your works or produce numerous other optical effects.
The reflection of the event horizon on the ramp is absolutely stunning.
So very well done!
The fact that you included a ZPM is just the cherry on top. Brilliant.
GOOD GOD! I was thinking the same thing, that is way to awesome. I would love to just buy something like that.
it was a 9 chevron dial sequence, so it would be weird not use a zpm.

Love the zpm at the 8th symbol. Nice touch.
I see you went all the way! All the leds, the moving parts, the dialing, the infinity mirror! Top notch work!
A denser strip of 144 led's /meter and some kind of diffusion along the rim of that infinity mirror would enhance the project.
