We are removing the wings off of the TB-20. A couple of months ago we found a spot of corrosion that ruined the entire set of wings. Luckily we found a great new set of wings in California and we shipped them out here with the help of @Gentryandsons. It was a lot easier removing the old wings than we thought, but will the new wings work with the old wing brackets? Find out on this episode of Rebuild Rescue!

Be patient!
The point of this ad and the company placing it is to monoplize the data, they only "prevent" anyone else to use it for marketing, reserving that right for themselves, only to use the data for marketing at a significant markup. I follow rebuild rescue for the techical info by itself, the marketing is all-out detrimental to all they hope to accomplish. It undermines their credability over-all by allowing charltans like this or "better help" onto their channel. Shame on you for selling your fans data to some databroker that we have yet to hear about!!!
as for wing fit mash ups ... perhaps it has more to do with When the wings were made ... perhaps at some point there were older wings they had to beef up and so made new ones with all the spacers and brackets ... then the old wings wouldnt work since they would have had a completely different connection method ...
Love seeing Greg on the videos. I know he's shy, but he adds so much to each episode he's on.
Hands down my favorite show on UA-cam. Thank you for the continuing Saturday morning relaxation. I'm so glad to see some new content.
Thank you for making us apart of your weekends Brother
Rebuild and Jimmy here! lol
I love the mustang giveaway phone call😂 that guy was so confused!
😂🤣
Me being confused was an understatement, I had driven all day the day before, got home late and started getting Jason's calls early in the morning, I had almost no sleep, then the hotel alarms were going off because of a power outage. So Yeah, Definately confused, but also Ecstatic :) Thank you @rebuildrescue
@@manny280 I’m glad you had finally answered. The call was so entertaining… I would have thought the same thing had I been on the other end of the call. You were so patient. Can’t wait to have you over to the hangar !
Nerd.. but thats my brother. XD
Lol that initial call had so much tension when he thought you were a marketer! Changed really quickly when he realized what was going on!
Congratulations, Michael!! Enjoy your new ride!
You don't need metric tools until you find out that you do! This is why I have always have both.
And then you find Whitworth and BS hardware ala Hawker as an example.
I only have metric because that's all I ever need (well, 99.99% of the time). But that's because I live outside of the USA.
Thank you for starting to include a 401 update segment!
The new 401 pipes look really nice! ❤ Keep showing the new stuff coming in. Hope your new wings fit on the new plane project. It would be nice to see something change out easy. 😂 Good to see you guys at it again. Many blessings.
401 update is a great idea! Maybe now some of the viewers will get off your back. 👍
Great video Jason, Joe and Greg! It's nice when things go smoothly and to plan. You'll have this bird in the air again in no time. The 401 exhaust parts are fantastic!
No not in the air in no time lot of work to do.
Yall uploaded as im watching my first flight back on my GoPro.
I live in Australia and I can say that metric dirt is the best! You all really need to get with the metric program. Just an observation.
Glad to see some more action on the TB20… I think that plane would be transformed with a new set of carpets/ trim…
It’s going to be ok. I would definitely replace all the wing bolts if possible. Nice job!
You never reuse hardware like that.
Those bolts would be around $150 each I would think wast of money replacing them, the way the wings configured those bolts just hold the wings in place.
@alancoller1602 on airplanes you do not reuse hardware like that.
The maintenance manuals for each airplane calls out which parts/hardware need to be replaced when servicing.
This parts that don’t require replacement do also require a close inspection.
At minimum, I would consider an NDI for them. Can’t hurt and maybe cadmium coating for future corrosion protection. An ounce of prevention if not required to replace.
I love watching people discover how little hardware you need to hold a plane together! I've worked on some stuff where the engine was only held on with 2 bolts!
Hey great having dinner with you at Fresco’s tonight! Seeya at the show tomorrow
You need the original fish plates, which begs the question why, you haven’t got them, they are mated for life.
I’m sure you checked the wings are within 250 builds of each other..?! Socata here in Europe will not sign off.
Don’t loose the shims from the Jesus bolts, normally tacks 40 mins to separate the wings from the fuselage.
Noticed you lifted the rear fuselage in the wrong place, which you got way with, you need to put the strop around the rear bulkhead.
You may need new wing route, we supply Aircraft Sprue.
Great to watch, your on it👍
Paul🇬🇧
Thank you, Hartsel, for your support!
Always enjoyable and I always learn something new. Thanks for taking the time to share this.
Congratulations, Michael!!!
Great video Jason and thanks for the update on the 401. It’ll all come together.
Congratulations to the guy that won the mustang. And great video guys
As always great video. I absolutely like the content and the guys , it makes it very easy to watch and learn. Stay safe and healthy guys.
We really appreciate the support Brother 👍🏻❤️
before putting the pacers and bolts back together you should run them through your vapor honing machine to get rid of all that gunked up sealant and apply new sealant after bolting in the wings.
Nice to see those wings come off. Hopefully the new ones go on easily and you will be test flying soon.
Ty for this guys!
Congratulations to Michael. He just won an amazing car. I have to admit I'm a little jealous.
Morning guys. Can't wait for the Saturday video to get here. Nice to see you getting the wings on this project. You'll have it in the air in no time. Nice to see an update on the 401. Stay safe, see you on the next video
Thank you for supporting and being apart of the channel!
Hey guys, good to see you guys getting back together again. Keep up the good work❤ cheers from down under Australia
Awesome Jason
Enjoyed the video from you guys as usual. Good idea to share 401 Updates.
I am so happy you’re finally saying fuselage properly.
Micheal is so lucky getting to talk to Justin on the phone 😊
FTFY: It's a really nice plane for Greg & Joe to work on. Congrats to Michael - Enjoy your new ride! Appreciate the 401 parts update - maybe use a white board to list what you're waiting for; so, you can cross things off as they arrive. Stay safe. ☮
'90s TooL was AWESOME
Ive watched auto rebuilding vids but never aircraft. This is soo interesting!
Glad to have you apart of the channel!
Welcome back Rebuild Rescue!
WOW!!! A beautiful Mustang for free! You made someone so happy today!🆒😎🤙!
17:10 Jason, the scope on this project just continues to creep. You're going to have to now order a metric vacuum cleaner to handle that metric dirt.
Wow! The Trinidad! It's been a while! Can't wait to watch the episode as soon as I get home! Have an Amazing weekend everyone! ❤️🔥
Thanks for stopping by Brother, we can't wait to hear what you think!
21:58 - RIP Rooster Teeth. I don't remember the exact AH Animated video that was taken from, but that's chibi Matt Bragg.
It seems these airplanes had several versions of wing design, all with tiny little differences in spar thicknesses. So you need the design version to match on both wings. I would definetely replace all those bolts and nuts. Also i would check all splicing plates for cracks. I've participated similar Socata rebuild, we've ended up ordering new plate from France due to cracks.
Congrats Michael ….🎉🎉🎉🎉
great progress on the planes. congrats to the mustang winner
So nice!
parts for 401 - that is gorgeous welding
Awww this filled my heart with love today. It is good to see positivity spread throughout the world. Even if it is one rescue at a time. 😂🎉😊❤
Hour and half videos ? We won’t be Mad At It!!!
Good viewing as usual, keep up the hard work 👌🏼 Regarding tools, always keep metric and imperial sizes. New stuff is all generally metric and old stuff imperial (we’ve used metric in the UK for many decades now). You never know when you might need both! 😉 Curious how the boats doing. Any update on that?
Thanks for the video, Rebuild Rescue team. Greetings from Finland :)
Thank you for watching!
Dang I'm early! I can't wait for that plane to be the gorgeous thang it deserves to be. I was always a fan if the cool shape of them. Look very sleek
34:08 It doesn't make sense for a company to not standardize its manufacturing process and instead make slight variants of the same pieces. Imagine the manufacturing headache for the machinists having to run different programs on the CNCs every so often to make different parts, and then run the matching programs on the mating parts and keep everything together. I think whoever told you that about the brackets being slightly off was yanking your chain or doesn't really understand mass manufacturing.
Love the videos man keep up the good work. And I’m mad I’ll be right beside Lakeland the week after Sun N’ Fun. 😥 but I font think my college professors would like to be two weeks out.
34:38 Looking fit there Joe! Also... What was the deal with the TB20's wings that they needed replacements? I think I missed that.
Keeps making me want more.
OMG YES ! 🤩You guys finally stopped measuring plane parts by your body parts. 😜 ...so imprecise.
But hey at least you don't use garden size for lengths. 😎 there is still hope for you.
Nice aircraft.
Being European it probably has been CNC machined, so (hopefully) will just bolt right up on the new wings. Also: great to see Greg smiling occasionally!😉
Amazing how disrespectful ppl are on something they receive for free!! The 401 project takes major time and a long wait on parts and a crazy amount of money!! If you guys only knew the time and the money it took just to ship a few of the parts for the 401 you would understand why there’s not only 401 videos, take it easy and enjoy some amazing content and be patient
Not to mention these side projects are what is funding a lot of the 401 project.
We knew getting into a restoration project on an airplane would be a huge task. The level of care and detail you need to put into a project like this is insane. All of our aviation projects are managed by multiple FAA licensed A&P’s and all work is safety checked by at least two of those individuals. All parts are either new or overhauled. It all takes time and a lot of money. The Phoenix will be amazing when it’s finished. Until then enjoy the journey. It’s been an amazing one.
Welcome to Canada ehhh bro, bring that Stanger thru 💪 🇨🇦
New rebuild rescue drinking game!!!! Really Really Good (DRINK)
"metric dirt, thats the worst" 😂😂
Love the idea of hsving a 401 update in each video, even if it is just an update that things are being shipped or youre waiting for things. Hopefully that will quell some of the whiners in the comments. Keep up the awesome content jason and team!
See you at sun and fun!!
The wings come oof like the Mooney M20A
fly on
You had a point with your tons. The metric ton, the US ton and the british ton all have different values
I am not a fan of that body style at all on the Mustangs, I've had several from 05-08's. But man, that thing is slick looking. I'd definitely take that one, yall did a really good job with it.
Shout out to the Matt Bragg Achievement Hunter Animated gif!
Of all the things to overlap, I never thought it would be AH and RR.
Really want to see a lot more info on the 401 its been now a chunk since that has had any updates or the boat. I like the various other Aircraft and get it some times your waiting for parts etc but at giving an update every couple of weeks wouldn't hurt. Glad to see one in here.
Last I heard the yacht had title issues.
Sam's Cougar has been bought LIA where I'm training on Long Island, so if I get my twin rating, I might be flying it! It was a surprise to see it in the hangar yesterday!
Torque spec = ALL OF IT 🔧
You got to get that airplane
What was wrong with the wings ? Thanks Jason and crew.
CPC.(corrosion preventative compound)...OMG I hate that stuff. I worked for Northrop Grumman building the E-8C. They are based on the Boeing 707 Intercontinental. We took boeyard turds and turned them into brand new 707s. Then they gave us that CPC and said smear this all over the interior structure. It stinks and it's nasty. I felt like I was destroying my beautiful work. But the military swears by it. When it drys up it's hard as a rock. And I still uncovered some major corrosion underneath it. I don't think that stuff is good forever. When it gets hard it cracks and doesn't seal the structure anymore. You would have to reapply it every 5 years or so. A good coat of primer over alodined aluminum is the best CPC I know of. Or an ocassional spritz of Corrosion-X.
Hé Jason, j'ai hâte de voir cet avion voler... les mètres comptent 🙂
I mean, it's a french plane, ya gotta speak french and love metric 🙂 Now I can't wait to see both fly.
Isn't the TB20 a French aircraft? Why would they use imperial?
i might of missed a episode was the engines for the 401 re built?
Hey guys So what's up with the 410 restoration ????
I love Greg even more!! Rockin the Tool tshirt.
My favourite plane to fly was the Socata Tobago, great plane. Being French, yeah metric.
Made me think about the mechanic on "Doc Hollywood" when he was going to fix Doc's Porsche. "I always did want an excuse to buy me some metric tools."
He ave the bolts magnafluxed. That will tell you if they are still good. Sometimes hardware can have hidden internal cracks that can’t be seen any other way.
Life is like a jigsaw full of mystery and intrigue bit like the videos you put out but we will be able to complete this one without the picture. Whilst you down you may as well up grade the avionics too crack on
What's happening with the yacht project dude I got really in to the series last night I ended up watching every video in row up to where you struggled getting the motors out the yacht. I went to watch the next one and you haven't uploaded one for 9 months. Thanks Sam
If you need any Socata information just ask me...I spend many years on them. And please check the corners in the control collum just behind pilot instrument panel if they are broken
When are you going to work on the yaht? I really like that series and I don’t mean to be pushy❤
I would not have replaced those two major wing bolts. They had small corrosion if the wings didn’t have a problem they would not have been removed. That is the way I look at things, and yes the 401 won’t be ready for oshkosh this year.
On this edition of REPLACE rescue...new wings for the suckotta.
Yay! #1!
what is happing with 401
When do we get a video of Jason saying "really good" across every episode ever made? Please note, let's not make a drinking game of it, or we'd all die. Rebuild Rescue would be all out of subscribers.
You guys are getting good at removing wings from airplanes.
Other prominent aircraft where the fuselage and the wing were ”married” complete: Boeing B-29 and De Havilland Mosquito.
you ever consider using LiDAR for measurements?
What happened to the 401 build?
A couple of hospital beds to support the wings. Best thing ever.
that was my exact response to unknown callers until I realise/find out who they are
It sounds like someone is taking a really long leak! 🤣
And then you realize that the metric system is so easy to do😊
