When I first saw slap it took me out he was doing the show like American bandstand or something I don't know exactly but it was only white people in the audience and he walked right up to a man and his wife and just started driving me in her face I was like Lord they going to kill this guy well they didn't but I was wondering did it actually have some sort of effect because you know folks didn't play about that stuff back then
I remember Sly & the Family Stone from the very beginning and I loved all of their music When I hear one of his songs today even if someone else is doing it I immediately know that is one of Sly Stone's songs.
That live version on TV of “Hot Fun In the Summertime” is mind blowing good. I rode my bike to the record store to buy the 45 and slid it over my handlebars to be cool on the ride home. My favorite line: “I cloud 9 when I want to!”. Love it. That band had 4 lead singers! Such an original happy sound. Definitely one of my all time favorite bands
Powerful bands like Sly and the Family Stone are difficult to keep together. Squabbles over song writing and ego are the usual culprits. Drugs, money and women are secondary. It's not easy to run a power group when you're high all the time because while you're in Strawberry Fields, you're only thinking about yourself.
Exactly it is a very hard job sometimes it just happens and sometimes you can make it happen like George Clinton paying the Parliament funkadelic and drugs he actually promoted that so he wouldn't have to give them cash money and then the process the band fell apart what a great band it was
SLY looked horrible in that interview from his RV,notice he never sat up,at all. I hope he is doing well, health wise. GOOD review of this great band from the past.
They were so exciting on every way. They were exciting to listen to as we.as to.look at! The show was lively, the costumes were outrageous! I was a little girl.when my Dad got is tickets to sitbin the audience for the Ed Sullivan Show. Back.in the 60s and 70s there were certain shows that were filmed ising a live audience. You could write to the Producers and they would send you tickets. Television was exciting back then. The Honeymooners was also filmed in front of a live audience. Wonderama with Bob McCallister too! Im.not sure if Captain Kangaroo used a live audience or not..
ALL THE DRUGS BY SLY HE OUTLASTED ALL THE STARS MICHAEL JACKSON RIP PRINCE RIP JAMES BROWN RIP BARRY WHITE RIP TEDDY PENDERGRASS RIP ELVIS RIP MARVIN GAYE RIP RAY CHARLES RIP SAM COOKE RIP ARETHA FRANKLIN RIP ETC ETC ETC... SLY AT 82 YEARS WOW WHAT A TALENT ARTIST MAN JB ok
If you don’t know the Sly story by now you’re too young. Went to a Sly concert while living in VA my hometown at the Hampton Roads Colosseum. He never came out!!!! End of story…
It’s quite mind boggling how people who make the decision to start doing drugs never learn that their lot will not be improved in any way shape or form.😞
Definitely a GOAT! I think later in life he was not trusting of a lot of people and secluded himself in his RV. Glad that's he's clean and sober now 🙌🏾
You have to be a musician to understand the Process here. The pressure to create Music that sells and resonates well with Audiences is tremendous. Drugs are always Available too.
Sly was one of the first social commentators to use his music to people aware of the racial situation in the US. A pity drugs damaged his image, that of the group and their ability to perform. Still, his music is one of the best in pop and funk.
Sly was nervous and scared of success - he just loves music. You can tell by his interviews and his chosen lifestyle. Musical geniuses are just different. I think of Andre 3000 -- another introvert that shuns too much of the spotlight (yet Andre 3K doesn't have the drug issues of Sly yet they have similar personalities).
No matter what has transpired Sly and the Family Stone has made a contribution to music and the world that’s undeniable.
Facts! They paved the way for a lot of artists/bands after them💯
This’ll group is one off the greatest of the 60’s and 70’s❤️

I actually meant gyrating I'm doing voice to text so you know it screws up sometime lol and I'm a mixed race so don't think it's a prejudicial thing
When I was young Sly and Jimi were the only true innovators that mattered to me.
Sly has moved into a large home in California and doesn’t live in a camper anymore. It’s a video on UA-cam showing his home. Nice video
Yes in one of the interviews we watched he had the big house as well as the RV. Thanks for watching 🙌🏾

Definitely a talented band and they made great music 🔥
Such an amazing band that broke records. I’d love to see a biopic or mini series on them
That's a great idea! Would love to see one as well🙌🏾

Yes definitely a struggle and we see it a lot with these bands especially from that era💯
Exactly it is a very hard job sometimes it just happens and sometimes you can make it happen like George Clinton paying the Parliament funkadelic and drugs he actually promoted that so he wouldn't have to give them cash money and then the process the band fell apart what a great band it was
One of my favorite bands of all time.
💯💯💯

Thank you🙏🏽 I believe that was before he got clean . The interview from the manager was this year when she said he's been clean for 4 years🙏🏽

Michael Jackson ended up buying sly stones catalog🕺🏿
Yup sure did! He sold it to him 💯
Ooo, new to me, interesting, tho.
Great investment, I believe, for they were a great band… 🙏🏾💪🏾✨✅🫵🏽🫵🏽
@@URBANTVOndemandDidn't he offer to give it back to Sly but Sly turned it down? That's the story I heard, several years ago.🤔
That song or freestyle he did at the end was interesting to think about or decipher
Definitely interesting commentary!
No matter what you say or think about Sly
Stone, you won't really understand
Until you listen too those first 3 albums.
Yes 🙌🏾
If you don’t know the Sly story by now you’re too young. Went to a Sly concert while living in VA my hometown at the Hampton Roads Colosseum. He never came out!!!! End of story…
Sounds about right 😩
WHAT?? He never came out? 😩
It’s quite mind boggling how people who make the decision to start doing drugs never learn that their lot will not be improved in any way shape or form.😞
Why is his biggest album left out of this film ????? ( called *STAND*)
def a music GOAT but he ended up being such a peculiar little old man.
Definitely a GOAT! I think later in life he was not trusting of a lot of people and secluded himself in his RV. Glad that's he's clean and sober now 🙌🏾
We ALL.end up.being peculiar little old people someday..
Awesome ❤🎉
Thanks 🤗

Unfortunately true
Why don’t you mention #SummerOfSoul? 😮

Definitely true 💯💯
Mixed groups out of the Bay Area...Tower of Power!!

Did sly ever date doris day
He denied it in interviews
Yes he did....you should know this.
Only heard the rumour that's why I asked the question thanks for your comment 👍
