      When I first saw slap it took me out he was doing the show like American bandstand or something I don't know exactly but it was only white people in the audience and he walked right up to a man and his wife and just started driving me in her face I was like Lord they going to kill this guy well they didn't but I was wondering did it actually have some sort of effect because you know folks didn't play about that stuff back then

      I actually meant gyrating I'm doing voice to text so you know it screws up sometime lol and I'm a mixed race so don't think it's a prejudicial thing

    When I was young Sly and Jimi were the only true innovators that mattered to me.

    Sly has moved into a large home in California and doesn’t live in a camper anymore. It’s a video on UA-cam showing his home. Nice video

    I remember Sly & the Family Stone from the very beginning and I loved all of their music When I hear one of his songs today even if someone else is doing it I immediately know that is one of Sly Stone's songs.

    That live version on TV of “Hot Fun In the Summertime” is mind blowing good. I rode my bike to the record store to buy the 45 and slid it over my handlebars to be cool on the ride home. My favorite line: “I cloud 9 when I want to!”. Love it. That band had 4 lead singers! Such an original happy sound.
    Definitely one of my all time favorite bands

    Powerful bands like Sly and the Family Stone are difficult to keep together. Squabbles over song writing and ego are the usual culprits. Drugs, money and women are secondary. It's not easy to run a power group when you're high all the time because while you're in Strawberry Fields, you're only thinking about yourself.

    • @URBANTVOndemand
      @URBANTVOndemand  Рік тому +2

      Yes definitely a struggle and we see it a lot with these bands especially from that era💯

      Exactly it is a very hard job sometimes it just happens and sometimes you can make it happen like George Clinton paying the Parliament funkadelic and drugs he actually promoted that so he wouldn't have to give them cash money and then the process the band fell apart what a great band it was

    They were so exciting on every way. They were exciting to listen to as we.as to.look at! The show was lively, the costumes were outrageous! I was a little girl.when my Dad got is tickets to sitbin the audience for the Ed Sullivan Show. Back.in the 60s and 70s there were certain shows that were filmed ising a live audience. You could write to the Producers and they would send you tickets. Television was exciting back then. The Honeymooners was also filmed in front of a live audience. Wonderama with Bob McCallister too! Im.not sure if Captain Kangaroo used a live audience or not..

    You have to be a musician to understand the
    Process here. The pressure to create
    Music that sells and resonates well with
    Audiences is tremendous. Drugs are always
    Available too.

    Sly was one of the first social commentators to use his music to people aware of the racial situation in the US. A pity drugs damaged his image, that of the group and their ability to perform. Still, his music is one of the best in pop and funk.

    Sly was nervous and scared of success - he just loves music. You can tell by his interviews and his chosen lifestyle. Musical geniuses are just different. I think of Andre 3000 -- another introvert that shuns too much of the spotlight (yet Andre 3K doesn't have the drug issues of Sly yet they have similar personalities).
