    Thank you very much for the video! I've just replaced it on my 13' XC70 (the fan was blowing with max speed even with the engine off) and i can share some tips that worked in my experience:
    1) you can use regular pliers to turn the resistor counter-clockwise, a wrench is hard to get in there and slips right off most of the time
    2) at first it seems like you don't need to cut through the carpet material, but once you get the resistor loose you will see it is pretty much impossible to get it out of there without removing the soft material
    3) the "carpet material" has 2 layers : harder carpet-like on the top and foam underneath. important - foam seems to be cut all the way to metal all around, but the superficial carpet-like is cut 90% around and only needs to be cut superficially in 3 places (i would say each is 5-8mm)! You will feel the places if you put your finger all the way through the factory-made cut to the metal and run it around. Two of these are easy to cut, one is a bit more tricky. Once you cut it (essentially connect the cuts made from factory), you don't need to remove the whole piece, but lift it upwards from the inside - it will be enough to remove the old blower and install a new one
    4) remove the connector from resistor before trying to twist it counter-clockwise as it will get in the way and make it impossible to get a good grip on it. when putting it back in, i found it easier to put the new one back in first, then plug the connector - it was very easy. it would be hard for me to connect it first then try to put the blower resistor in place as like i mentioned, the connector makes it hard to get a good grip on the resistor and turn it.
    Final tip: don't loose your spirit, this is a damn hard and uncomfortable job to do :)

    Thank you Evgeny and Volvo Sweden once again for a great video that showed me I could repair my car by myself.
    It was really tricky to both cut through the fabric since you need a really sharp knife and to reach the resistors and get enough moment to turn it. I recommend eye protection if the knife slips.
    Did this during -12 degrees Celsius too so it was a pain. Battery had died because of the blower fan not turning off. Jump starter refused to start car because of electrical problem with the resistor. After changing it, there was no problem in starting the car.

    I currently need to do something to fix the fan and it stopped blowing sort of out of the blue. The entire panel is working in terms of functionality. I am also able to get the seat heater and all that so it’s not that component. I did, however purchased the relay for the fuse box, but I cannot get the bolt off of the fuse box in order to get to the relay below in the compartment in the engine area, which is really frustrating so I may just opt for fixing the resistor is there anyway to diagnose it without actually pulling on the yellow and black wires as you suggested would you suggest doing that before I purchase a resistor or just get one anyway

    Hi, I am just doing the job since my fan stopped working.
    Concerning the fan check:
    Is it really bridging black(without white) and yellow/red?
    There seems to be no currency at all.
    Or does this refer to a broken fuse or the actual worst case: blower fan?
    Between yellow/red and black/white, I can measure 12+ Volts.... but I do not dare to short cut.
    Any ideas?
    THXALOT

    • @inscriptiondrive891
      @inscriptiondrive891 Рік тому

      Finally got the fan working again, by simple moving it by hand.
      The fuse box for start/stop engines is right below the windscreen; you have to disassemble the wipers....
      From there, you have access to the fan through the intake window.
      I suppose that something fell into the fan and blocked it. Anyhow, no expensive repair or alternatively several hours as human snake below the dashboard.
      I would recommend to do this check in case of fan issues, it is only half as painful as working on the resistor or the even the blower motor itself.
      Cheers!

      Thanks volvosweden for making this video, it's been very helpful.
      As regards testing the fan, on my 2008 UK RHD V70, I had to bridge the black and the black/white. Bridging black and yellow/red did nothing. I looked at the wiring diagram and bl to bl/wh makes more sense. Managed to blow the Jcase 40A fuse when doing the test for the first time - touched the wrong wire possibly?! But after replacing the fuse and then doing the test again more carefully, my fan runs at full speed, result!
      Luckily it's a lot easier in the RHD cars to access the blower fan resistor. Just remove the glovebox and it's easy to get at and on my car at least I haven't had to cut any of the carpet or sound proofing :)

    • @JasonLee-lv7tm
      @JasonLee-lv7tm Рік тому

      There isn’t a way that your blower motor got damaged from the wiring tests that your describing even if your correct about this video describing the test wrong.
      The blower motor is a 2 wire DC motor.
      Also, if your so sure that your blower motor was perfectly fine, why would you be messing with the resistor and stuff. Obviously you had some sort of issue.
      Sorry to hear that you couldn’t figure out how to test it.

    • @JasonLee-lv7tm
      @JasonLee-lv7tm Рік тому +1

      The blower motor works by getting power on one wire and ground on the other and it spins. If you hooked it up backwards it would spin the opposite way.
      The resistor is there for it to have different speeds only.
      That’s why I wanted to explain to you that there is absolutely no possible way to damage it from the wiring tests that you incorrectly assumed damaged your blower motor.

    • @daviddefreitas7599
      @daviddefreitas7599 Рік тому

      3 to 4 will only connect Ye-Rd to blk, which will not do anything. you need to connect BK-WH to BK, this would close the circuit to make the motor operate, but it is pretty high amperage and it if you use too small of a wire, it will melt pretty fast. Not really sure if the motor should get full voltage. I did test, and it blasted pretty hard, it also sounded like it should not be running that fast.
