Hideo Kojima has publicly regretted killing off Liquid Snake since 1998. Unfortunately, he sacrificed the most important villain of the series just to create a convoluted way to bring him back to life; Revolver Ocelot (some may say Zero is more important due to the power he possessed, but he worked from the shadows, and Solid Snake never even came face to face with him until the very last scene of the series, while Ocelot was a major part in the vast majority of the games). Combining Ocelot and Liquid into one character took the real Ocelot away, but also didn't truly bring Liquid back. Instead, we ended up with a hybrid character that didn't quite work as well as when they were side by side in MGS1.

Even so, each MGS is perfect the way it is and everything in the saga makes perfect sense and previous and last chapters match perfectly with each other.

@@JJShalashaska Yeah, having someone die at the end of game and making him come back by haunting an old man because you regret killing him off but finally decide that he wasn't really back, self-hypnosis and "nanomachines son" makes perfect sense. Talk about shitty plots..

To be honest I don't even know why he did it that way, he could of easily made it where the foxdie virus killed him but he had nanomachine that went into to overdrive and was able to fight off the virus and jump start his heart with electro magnetic impulse's or something like that.
It would of been much better than having him control Ocelot because his arm was attached to him Lol. When I first saw that I was like WTF. I love the mgs series but when that happened I was like really?

I like the fact Liquid was killed off yet remains so pivotal to events in the series even long after he's dead. There's something eerily ominous about it, especially by the time we get to MGS4 and, even amidst the bigger goings on at play, the mere memory of him is still enough to bring the world to the brink. I think that's an even more powerful notion than if the character was still alive.

I remember loving Liquid as a villain so much growing up, that by the time I saw him do a pseudo-comeback in MGS2, I was thrilled to see it, and also thoroughly confused as to how that was going on. By the very nature of MGS2 being a complete post-modern nightmare of MGS1, I felt that Liquid's comeback through Ocelot's arm made the whole post-modern aspect of MGS2 work as amazing shock value, as it added confusion with a flair of fan-service in a game where confusion, and not knowing what was real or fake, was a major aspect of the overarching themes covered in the game. In retrospect, MGS2 is the most forward looking game in the franchise, and I wouldn't have it turn out any other way.

I honestly prefer the Liquid Ocelot storyline to the idea of keeping him alive. It alludes more to the Manchurian Candidate/MKUltra type experiments, something that is perfectly fitting in the world of espionage and questionable morality on almost every front that the Metal Gear games are nestled in. There's something about the concept of programming a human being that's just so interesting to me, and add to that the plot point that Ocelot underwent it willingly, at Big Bosses's behest.
This concept is obviously further explored in the Phantom Pain with the Venom Snake character concept. This further reinforces the idea of BB being willing to alter people's minds if it's fitting for his plans and motivations.
Another example of this concept within the games would be Grey Fox's resurrection and reprogramming to become the cyborg.

    • @zapan9643
      @zapan9643 Рік тому

That's why Gray Fox keeps shouting for "THE MEDICINE" that was used during his programming to possible sedate him, could be any sort of opioid or benzodiazepine or even barbiturate class drug.
Benzodiazepine class drugs leave withdrawals that feel exactly what Gray Fox's "outburtsts" look like. Shaking and your brain is only reading "FINDMEDICINEFINDMEDICINE...."
It's literal hell, no wonder he felt like a ghost in a shell tormented by past demons and thus ended up sacrificing himself in lieu of damaging REX's targeting and radar systems.

Awesome video man, congratulations. I also think that Liquid is very important to the "new" Snake from MGS1, by 2005 he was a legend with no match before that, only Big Boss and Grey Fox jad a chance to defeat him, but they were both dead by the time of the Shadow Moses Incident, so when Liquid came into scene, meaning there was still something Snake couldn't get away from even in Alaska. Saying Liquid and Solid are like Batman and the Joker is very accurate, and I wish that Liquid had survived Foxdie.

Don't really care for Liquid. My only complaint is I wish they'd gone for the whole Ocelot having his father's powers and Liquid's spirit taking over and after you beat Liquid, Ocelot's personality slips through like it happens anyway in MGS4. Though I don't mind the hyponosis angle since they delved deeper into it with MGSV so it all comes full circle anyway and I llike the overall idea of Ocelot, the son of the Boss, the true heir, destroying the Patriots from the shadows and using everyone.

I think making Solid Snake a clone was not a mistake in the long term, after all the existential conflict Dave has in MGS1 and 4 are a great part of his appeal as character. He's a man designed to be the perfect warrrior, yet he fights to end all conflict. That contradiction in himself through the symbol of genes defines his character, just mind that he had Big Boss' recessive genes while Liquid had the dominant ones and Solidus was a perfect clone, that seems to mean that Solid Snake never had the potential to become a warlord even though he indeed had the potential to become a leader (as the Philanthropy organisation makes evident). His character arc is one from mere soldier becoming double crossed, to a man doubting about his very own nature to a man who ends up surpassing the limits other people inflicted on his life.
On the other hand, killing off Liquid was an utterly stupid choice. We can forgive Kojima because he truly behaves as an artist, he gives it all in every story because he expects it to be his last one.

I honestly don't think it would've been too big of a stretch to just have him survive without changing too much of anything on screen. The dude had just been shot at and was in a fist fight its not unfair to say he just passed out from exhaustion/blood loss before being rescued by Ocelot or any of the others that had a vested interest in getting a Big Boss clone on their side. He could even still suffer some lasting injury from the incident

He didnt like that Solid was a clone and felt his emotions were corrupted by that. He was less of a human in a way. Less relatable. I didn't agree with his take. He betrayed Sergei, Liquid and Solidus. He showed that he was always one step ahead of everyone. Does stuff that would always benefited him. Until MGS4 u realize he was always doing it for Big Boss. I just always felt like if u erase his love for Big Boss and him pretending to be Liquid. He was already a ruthless villain.

Actually, liquid taking over ocelot would have made sense if kojima didn't include the mental therapy thing. For example, kojima had already introduced the idea of nano machines, and more even mantis telekinesis power could combined with idea mental therapy itself could had made great sense as follows
The arm of liquid contained nano machines that had his DNA and part of his personality through mental therapy. ocelot was made to believe himself to be liquid, and with mantis power, liquid soul itself can take over ocelot completely, and this is no strange considering we see super humans being already and later most interestingly the sorrow who had some spiritual power himself since you made mgs4 as continuation after the third mgs you could have gone with this explanation which would be good or even goes with plan B which is using liquid Corpse and nano machines and mantis power again to revive liquid snake we also saw that such a thing is possible like gray fox for example and colonels volgin who became the man on fire
There are so many ways to revive liquid, but it seems kojima focused on the theme of the story and plot and didn't want to go so far to revive a character in a way that will make a plot hole or plot weakness
But honestly, if liquid was alive, I feel he would have teamed soild to take on solidus and pay solidus back for saying he is a whole different game than liquid to soild snake when they meet

I hate playing old snake in mgs4. It makes the story dramatic and interesting but I just loved Snakes design in MGS2 and didn`t want to play as an old version of that cool guy. The sad thing is, that we`ll never play as an high quality version of young snake (that one face camo doesn`t count)

I wish Liquid wasn't killed off either. Poor Ocelot had to become Liquid in his place, and Solid Snake had to be aged to an old man so it would be even. I think aging Snake like that was the biggest mistake in the series. The explanation for it was BS as well.

I always saw ocelot as an ok character and never really liked his style but liquid was an awesome character along with the great voice they game him. So the plot where Ocelot got his arm replaced by liquids and then liquid sorta takes over him was a weak plot in my opinon. The plot of MGS1 involves a lot of clonning so why could't they just have said, hey we created a clone of liquid before he died.

With Capcom redoing the previous RE games and altering them a bit it would be amazing if Konami would let him redo Metal Gear Solid in which Liquid doesn't die. That's how some shows and games have been going on. Mario Peach and Bowser, Link Zelda and Ganon, and Goku Vegeta and Frieza.

With regards to Volgin, we personally think otherwise.. He's an iconic villain and all his scenes were amazingly done. When we say "awesome", we mean in terms of being a great villain - worthy enough to be in the game, not whether he is likable by fans.. I guess the more he is disliked, the better the villain.
