- In this video we review the Toshiba TDDP5012ES2. Note that much of this review also applies to the lower capacity TDDP3512ES2 and TDDP2012ES2 as all three units share much of the same functionality and many of the same features. The major difference between them is, of course, the capacity.
Our video on the best 50 pint dehumidifiers currently on the market: • The Best Dehumidifier ...
*We liked it **Fastly.Cool** so much in the basement, we bought a second one for the main level. The amount of moisture it pulls out of the air is astonishing.*
I went through Hurricane Ian & found out I had water in the wall. Went out to buy this b/c Toshiba brand is good. After watching this I almost didn't unpack it b/c you talked about the noise level. I didn't find the noise level bad at all, it was much quieter than I thought it would be. You could sleep with this on, sound is comparable to a stand up fan. This machine is for real. I set it for 35% b/c I need it to pull any water out of that drywall- I removed the baseboard first, plus we had an insurance adjuster come out & he used a moisture meter to read the wall ( not the pronged one, the one you just run along the wall with your hand). He told us to go get a dehumidifier ASAP to pull all the moisture from behind the drywall so we got this beast. Mind you my house is 2000 sf & this is capable of a 4500 sf area. This giant was sucking every drop of moisture within a hundred miles. I set it on the lowest setting of 35% to get that moisture gone.
Within an hour we were at 35%, wow. Mind you it is a master bath & closet space- about 400 ft.
Also thought the heat from the compressor was gonna be really hot blowing out of this, but it it's not- medium temp & that's with the turbo on entire time.
I like the bucket size. I have a 900 square foot home in Florida. I empty it twice a day, and anything bigger would be difficult for me to empty. The 14 pint capacity is 2 gallons, and that's about my limit of how much I want to carry around the house. If you are a 25 year old young man, then 2 gallons of water is nothing. If you aren't, 2 gallons of water is plenty. Otherwise, great review...but keep in mind that not everyone can change a 3 gallon resevoir when discussing pros and cons of resevoir size.
Saw this at Home Depot (late July ‘20). Will probably buy today instead of waiting for a hOme unit from Amzn...
Buy from home depo, great unit
I bought this model based on the name, hoping it would be good. It worked well "For a year" then it started frosting. Many people have complained of this issue. Garbage product.
I have this unit in my basement and run on continuous setting. Just recently the coils started light freezing which shouldn’t be a concern because it has the auto defrost feature. The concern is I don’t see any water now draining in the drip pan even after running in continuous mode for hours. Trying to figure out how best to get rid of this problem. Any ideas..
I bought one of these back in October 2022. Worked great for about 5 months but now the built-in humitidy meter is messing up. It'll read 40 when it's actually around 60 in the room. Also it doesn't shut off when it reads low. Sometimes it'll reset if I unplug it for a while but ends up with the same issue in a short time. Luckily I purchased a 2 year warranty but I'm kind of wishing I could just get a different one.
Just got this to replace my now defunct Frigidaire unit. So far it is working, drains out the back perfectly and sound is not that important, as it is relegated to the basement. Dropped the humidity 10 percentage points in 30 minutes...I like that speed.
sooo don't get the frigidaire?
@@johanybotero IMO stay away from Frigidaire. I've bought the Frigidaire which lasted less than 14 months it was replaced under warranty after 12 months. Knowing the reliability issue I bought the extended warranty on the replacement unit, now the replacement unit is dead after 13 months and I am struggling with the extended warranty department to get a replacement shipped. I will not buy another Frigidaire/Electrolux product.
Thanks
What do you do when you don't want wanna use humidifier
Ok, so what are those better options then? Better build quality? Better warranty?
Just got one home depot has an extension on the warranty
too loud for a bedroom? what is a good unit that is in this price range?
Which other units are better quality and warranty?
How do you clean the bucket!? I want to remove the handle to clean out the bucket but I can't figure out how to remove it, is there a way to remove the top of the bucket?
I hooked up a hose for drainage but it just fills up bucket d pi es not drain. What do i do??
Great 👍🏽 Video…I have the exact model and it blows out extremely hot air…does it blow out cool air?…and if so, what are the settings?
Thanks.
All dehumidifiers blow out hot air. The heat has to go somewhere. It's a dehumidifier not an air conditioner...😂
How I get this in Karachi Pakistan
Hello there!!
Thank you for the video! I am in the market for 70 pint dehumidifier unit for my basement. Based on your tests, what is the best option right now? Can you let me a right direction.
Thank you inadvance!!
70 pint units are now 50 pint units. I discuss how this works in this video:
ua-cam.com/video/MoYZk2KRL6I/v-deo.html
My 50 pint recommendations can be found here:
ua-cam.com/video/E_ksV7SLrlE/v-deo.html
what is the average monthly energy bill for this thing in the usa? Running at say 8 hours a day?
I estimate it will cost at least $0.50 per 8 hours to run one of these units. This estimate is based on a power cost of 12 cents per KWH.
How can i get this to just keep the space it's in at 55% humidity? Because when i turn off continuous and comfort and set to 55% it will turn on and bring the room down to 30s and then turn off and let it get well into the 70s before it turns back on
Your unit may be defective. When set to 55% humidity the unit should lower room humidity to 55%, automatically shut off when it does, and then turn back on as soon as room humidity rises back up above 55%.
@@consumer-analysis mine never turns off though. I hear it change from like the condenser pulling air, to the fan just constantly running. I wanted a unit that would go complete off and quite when reaching its humidity point then turn back on when it rose up.
Ive had this for 1 year and its been acting up. Compressor is running even though its been off manually. Only way to turn it off it to unplug it. Defrost light is not on. And humidity goes from 50 to 33% even though its been raining outside. It does it once and awhile. Anyone having issues like me?
I’m going trough the same situation with my Dandy ( 70 pints ) my system only as bucket ( no pump ) I have this problem going on for 3 month, now it’s 2 years old I’m now trying the 3 in 1 Toshiba with pump
Yes mine too same. Worked good for 1 year then this issue.
Just left a comment above. Basically same. Reads low and doesn't shut off. I noticed the water is not collecting as much but just figured it did its job.
Can not get to work on continuous drain. Doesn't even turn on without the collection bucket
Bought new in May 2020. Early Sept 2021 the coils ice up and unit no longer dehumidifies. Toshiba Customer Care will do nothing as it is 4 months out of warranty. Don't buy this product.
Yes this 100% true. I bought my unit in October 2020. My unit iced up in September 2021 and no longer dehumidifies. Toshiba will not honor warranty since I do not have receipt. Do not buy this product! Toshiba is scam company.
Same exact issue.. stay away from this junk
The coils freeze on mine constantly.
Hello can you use this water to water plants you will eat???
I don’t see why not. Unless the plastic breaks down and contaminates the water but the plants should filter particles out in the soil and their stems.
Drainage through hose does not work. Bucket still fills when hose is attached.
I have the same problem. It drains through hose but also goes into bucket. The unit is mounted on a perfectly level platform. If fan is in turbo mode, I believe the increased airflow pulls water away from the rear hose drain.
I'm having the same issue. It's annoying no reviewers actually test it 😒
I found this video to try to solve this issue. 😬
I bought that for last 2 yrs it's ok it works but this yr Instead it goes down the humidity it goes up the humidity temperature
What size is that drainage hose
No drainage hose is included although you can attach a standard size garden hose to the back of the unit to drain it.
3 months so far all ok
I bought this unit and connected the drainage hose according to manufacturer instructions. The bucket still fills from a rectangle hole in the plastic panel above the bucket. When the bucket fills, the unit stops. Little water goes down the drainage hose. Most water comes out of that rectangular hole into the bucket. The rectangular hole is not due to damage. It is formed into the plastic panel. Useless to attach the drainage hose.
John Evans I have the same issue. Were you ever able to determine how to get it to drain out the back?
@@jimhamilton8970 I never solved the problem. I made a cork plug and even used plumbers putty with it but the water would still find its way to t he bucket or run onto the floor. I thought maybe the manufacturer monitored these reviews and would offer a solution but apparently they are just happy to take your money and run.
John Evans I would have to agree with you there. I even called support. No help at all.
@@jimhamilton8970 i had same issue - i had hooked the hose up per instructions and was surprised when i checked on it later and i had to empty a full bucket. I disconnected the hose and used a flashlight to look into the drain outlet of the machine and noticed some "gunk" had settled in the bottom - so i cleaned out what i could see, re-attached the hose, and it now drains into the hose like it should. I have not had to empty the bucket in a week. Maybe the "gunk" was acting like a glue and keeping a part from opening / closing like it should for the water to follow the correct path? If the "gunk" wasn't actually the problem - maybe i just jostled something that made it work?
I have had the same problem. I mounted the unit on a perfectly level platform. I believe that if the unit is in turbo mode, the increased airflow is pulling the water away from the rear drain opening.
the bucket is filling with water and i have the hose connected why is this happening?
I am having the same problem.
No issue with it. It’s kind of loud. I don’t have it on if watching TV. It’s too loud for that. I have to empty the bucket twice a day.
Unit
one year wonder, after that scrap it
Seems just about every single dehumidifier out there someone says that...
This is a piece of junk. After 13 moths, it doesn't deforst. The bottom of three coils are frozen. Probably there is leaking refrigeration or the deforst sensor is broken. Don't buy it.
Same issue.. junk
Yes, same issue after 18 months. It's junk. I'm never buying anything from Toshiba again.
quiet working after less than a year. Not at all reliable.
