@@Moonbase3 and for the Quintessons I’ll say that they seem to be being set up as major villains for not just Void Rivals but the other titles in the Energon Universe as well. And these guys are brutal seeing that the judge didn’t hesitate to kill that scientist for saying Zerta Trion's name.
Agreed. I'm happy to see the Quintessons shaping up to be major players in this continuity, and I'm looking forward to seeing some Sharkticon hordes someday...
I get that this comic is supposed to be kind of a rough movie G1 take on the story but I find it interesting how Springer seems more, I guess, serious? Like yes he’s been that before in like IDW and other stories but it sort of seems like they took the “I got better things to do then die” and cranked it up from what I see in these couple panels, he seems less heroic and more…stoic. Honestly I’m quite interested in what they’ll do with him in the future. Also the Zerta trion theory you made about her being related to Alpha Trion seems really interesting if it’s true.
I can see what you're saying. I think him being gruff fits with his G1 cartoon personality, but it would be nice to also see a more heroic side to him. Maybe we'll see that in the future. I mean, if they can flesh out Skuxxoid as a character, I'm sure they could do the same for a big name like Springer.
Seem like an interesing parallel with Optimus Prime and Alpha Trion. Just like there was previous Primes such as Sentinel, Solus in other TF Universes, is possible Trion was a title that was passed down any bot that acted as power figure.
Thank you Moonbase. Your content is helping with my continued interest in this storyline. You are correct about the way these books handle lower tier characters. Looking forward to your upcoming analysis.
As soon as I saw that panel where Proximus was able to stop Springers sword I knew immediatly he was using Cybertronian materials and tech, at the end when the Scientist get cooked by the Judge confirms it, Zerta Trion is a transformer that interacted with the organic life forms that we know today as zertonians who inhereted the knowledge and access to this rare material, thats also why we see Solaila the issue #10 coming back to life engulfed in some sort energon body suit or shield also cybertronian in nature.
Nice to give the Skuxxoid his own little story. Aww. Whoo! Springer is here! I'm pretty sure it is him who brought the unconscious, younger Darak back to safety. Excited to learn more about this new name (Zerta Trion).
You're right about Void Rivals being a more satisfying read when collected.... I just finished the first Trade Paperback, after watching your videos. It was even better than I'd thought it would be, even knowing the broad strokes already. Thanks for these videos, man! They've been a fun discussion for my brother and I. We're lovin' 'em!
Thanks, that's awesome to hear! I appreciate it, and glad you enjoyed the trade of Void Rivals. I can't wait until we have a big collection of issues to read, I think it'll really shine there.
Zerta Trion and the ancient Cybertron contention has me thinking that this Zerta Trion was some sort of hight ranking Cybertioan under the Quintisons who broke off and made Zertonia behind the Quintions' back. It feels more then that considering how much hate the Quintisons have for this Zerta Trion if they kill you for saying the ahem out loud. Really surprised this deep for Skuxxoid, hope he get some happy ending. Really impressed by Proximus fighting Springier toe to toe, either Springer is out of it(he has been on the Sacred Ring for about 2 decades) or Zertonia put some top natch enhancements in Proximus. Skybound ramped up the Transformers references in this issues, 6-8 were with out nay and WHAM we get Skuxxoid, Quintisons and Springier. Sorta like they making up for lost time or something.
It does seem like they were making up for the lack of Transformers stuff in the last couple! As for Proximus vs Springer, I think you raise a good point that Springer might not be at the top of his game. But, I also think Proximus is massively, massively enhanced.
A Jetfire figure including mini-figures of Darak and Solila is already leaked on listings. Hasbro is finally seeing a Transformers media working and they jumped on it full steam ahead.
Great video as always! When you get to Cobra Commander 5, can name the Transformers on the screen in Cobra-La that also appeared in issue 1? The blue one appears to be Omega Supreme or another of the Omega Sentinels or whatever. The yellow dart looks like it could be Sunstorm. And when CC and Destro are infront of the screen with Storm Shadow, Tomax/Xamot and the Drednoks, could the bald guy be possibly Dr. Mindbender, who was teased with a book cover in Duke #1?
Thanks! I should be able to work that into the video for CC #5. Though, there are a few in that shot that I'm unsure on. The Guardian and Sunstorm are the most recognizable. I think one of the Insecticons is there too (Kickback, because of the wings?) but it's kinda unclear. As for the bald guy, are you talking about the one standing off to the side on that panel? If so, that's an interesting idea...I feel like it's only a matter of time until we see Mindbender.
I do have a feeling Springer will be sticking around for a minute - the Energon Universe Special didn't just herald his appearance, it suggests he's after something and it's tied to what Darak and Solila are seeking. Still not sure what the Skuxxoid storyline is, but hey, I'm here for it. Does killing that Quint scientist close the door on time travel??? LOL
I like how this comic has Springer designed closer to his G1 appearance like with the shoulder pads positioned correctly unlike IDW that made him look thinner and sharper, plus him being a naive Boy Scout was kinda annoying whereas in G1 he jammed his gun directly under that chubby aliens chin to get information out of him and said he didn’t care about the enemy have rights 👍 badass 😎 great vid as always
Thanks, man! So far, this is a good take on Neil Ross' Springer. Can't really imagine any other voice coming out of his mouth. I'm expecting plenty more badass moments to come!
You should do a deep dive on the Trions if that's possible. I knew of Alpha Trion and Zerta seems to be a new addition to the canon but this is the first I've ever heard of Beta Trion. I don't think Zerta is a reference to Beta though. My guess is the Trions are a series of bots, Zerta seemingly being the last.
@@Moonbase3 I base my thoughts on the fact that the Quintessons are talking about a failed experiment type, someone that created the Sacred Ring maybe??? Also, when those other guys spoke to her in her cell, they made it sound like if she was someone special with a destiny, maybe one she doesn’t eVen know about, which might be unlocked by the key thing they gave her. Like a Prime Master, pretending to be another species. Who knows, let’s check out the next issue.
Well. I gues somebody needs to pick up the phone. Because I TOTALLY called Springer being the mysterious figure that saved Darak's life all those years ago. You know, now that we have "Zerta Trion" in play, I'm curious what the "Thirteen" of this continuity are like. I mean we know at least the Fallen exists and that Alpha Trion is a member of the group, how does this "Zerta Trion" fit into this if they are going with the Thirteen original primes?
Nice call on Springer! And yeah, I'm really curious where this Zerta Trion character fits into the lore and if she's a new or pre-existing character...what makes it all really interesting is the Sacred Ring angle. Can't wait to see where they're going with this!
One thing I’ve particularly noticed is how void rivals pulls much more inspiration from the second half of g1 with characters from the movie and the 3rd season while transformers is focused on seasons 1 and 2 instead. I quite like the dichotomy. Almost feels like at the very least a remake/reimagining of g1 which I quite like.
You're spot on. And the G.I. Joe titles also seem to be drawing on that respective cartoon continuity, so I would agree that the Energon Universe is something of a reboot of the 80's cartoons.
I think he was squeezing her armor/environment suit so hard it was breaking - you can see the crack start to form on the chin of her helmet where he's got ahold of her in the first panel, then it becomes a bigger crack in the second panel.
The fact Hasbro themselves also marketed this issue really shows how popular the Energon universe truly has become
I must have missed that. That's cool, though - was it during a livestream or something?

@@JohnWilliams-wl9px Ah, that's cool! Nice to hear that they're promoting the comics!

Springer making his comeback in void rivals is something I never knew I needed until now 💯
It turned out to be the perfect comeback!
well they had to. new toy and all.
I get the feeling that Skuxxoid is going to continue to have a presence in the comic, and might even become part of the main cast at some point.
It's pretty wild! Never thought I'd see the day, to be honest.
He's kind of the Void Rivals mascot. The Void Rivals story in the Special was about him.
True, he kinda is the mascot! 😂
Skuxxoid is turning into my favorite character of the E.U. can't have enough Of him
I never thought I'd see the day, but I'm really getting invested in seeing his story play out
Really do feel bad for my boy Skuxxoid. He probably spent the night eating hungry man tv dinners and drinking beer till he passed out.

The classic case of taking a throwaway character fans didn’t care much about and adding a sad twist to them.
