Optimus breaking Shockwave down literally and figuratively, belittling him for his senseless cruelty, and then performing a mortal kombat fatality on him was so satisfying. I wouldn't say its ruthlessness on Optimus's part either, but him simply doing to Shockwave what he did to others. Just absolute karma.
This comic pulls no punches, killing everyone left and right. Shockwave is my favorite Transformer and while we didn't see much of him, I liked this take, it reminded me more or Professor Pyg, a deranged scientist who enjoys his sadistic experiments instead of viewing them as a necessary evil. It's a game.
he was still an arc villain. just because a character was huge in idw, doesn't mean they will be in skybound. skybound will have different major players
This take on Shockwave has really grown on me. At first I was a little unsure about his personality, but I think you perfectly hit the nail on the head in terms of why I turned around on it. He's just more of a mad scientist, and his sadistic cruelty means more to me as a reader because it means more to him - as in, it's a source of pleasure for him, which makes him a much more repulsive villain to me.
I loved this version of Shockwave so much. It was interesting to finally see a version of him that didn’t even bother trying to mask his sadism, and he was an excellent challenge for the Autobots to overcome. Amazing video as always, thank you for making these videos for us to watch!
I am a huge Shockwave fan but even I was not prepared for the cruelty he displayed I am disappointed that he died but considering this is Transformers there is a chance he might return. His appearance may have been brief but he left a huge impact.
I actually like Shockwave with some emotions because without then he just seems like a robot following orders but when he has emotions he feels like a living, breathing life-form and that makes his actions way scarier to me.
I like the difference of shockwave and soundwave displayed here Soundwave has been shown in some aspects to not show emotions often and seem like shockwave because of how he does things but I think soundwave is a lot more emotional than he seems compared to shockwave who if he ever feels emotion it’s just darker emotions
Soundwave’s emotions show through with how he’s focused on trying to repair ravage the whole time. Shockwave is a sadist who uses the decepticon cause to continue his evil experiments. Soundwave is someone who believes in the Decepticon cause but has started to lose his honor as he’s gone along, even tearing apart decepticons that he probably cares about.
My favourite part of Shockwave putting whales in a blender was faces that both Thundercracker AND Soundwave made when they see that. For me they seem not only shocked by this (oh damn shocked by shockwave) but also (maybe, kind of) scared.
Loved Shockwave for the time we had him in this arc. Skybound's version feels like someone who's only benefitted from the war, unlike everyone else in the cast we've focused on. imo, Shockwave is an example of somebody who's cruel to their core, a naturally born monster that through a war found the perfect excuse to let out that horror without any repercussions. Unlike Starscream, who was revealed to have once been more kind, turning to the war and becoming a monster out of losing someone, fuelled by revenge not too different to Cliffjumper's reason for joining the fight.
I don't see what's wrong about this version of Shockwave showing more emotion. He's still a mad scientist that experiments and tortures Autobots. He's still a high ranking Decepticon and a part of their big four. I like to believe that every Shockwave has at least a little bit of emotions, and different versions reveal a different amount. One of Shockwave's most iconic version, the Aligned Continuity Shockwave, although very emotionless, cold, calculating, and "logical." He's briefly revealed his emotions a few times. Like anyone would, when he was out of wild cars and hacks, he was clearly fearing for his life when faced with Grimlock himself and clearly felt despair after Grimlock bit off his arm. This same Shockwave actually pet Predaking as if he was his pet, which he kinda was. Whether he was just marveling at his creation or comforting his pet, he was showing emotion for another being. People forget this but the same Shockwave was concerned for another Con's existence. Near the end of "Prime," after Bumblebee killed Megatron, Shockwave carried Starscream of all Cons to safety. A little after that, Shockwave was fearing for his life and I think even screamed when he was trampled by the undead Predacons. Shockwave has emotions, different versions just hide a certain amount of it. This newer version shows just more emotion, and we shouldn't mind as long as it's done well.
Shockwave! I love this guy. His more emotional self makes me think of his Marvel variation, I like him being cold, but him being emotional works great. I think every Shockwave have very similar feelings, so to say, many cold Shockwaves showed excitement or anger, with the difference being only that this one makes these feelings external and don't deny them. I do think him here is to be more symbolic? The worst Decepticons can be, shows Soundwave's flaw. Maybe.
Thanks for covering this delta trion. I’ve recently been getting back into transformers and was absolutely horrified of shockwave when I started reading the newest transformers comic line. I was weirdly really thrilled with this depiction of shockwave being basically the cybertronian Dr. Mengele.
I don’t want to give spoilers for invincible, however a lot of people get brutal injuries/ die and then come back later. Considering this run of transformers is at least somewhat a Robert Kirkman project, I wouldn’t be surprised if shockwave came back later down the line.
they *could* be brought back, but i doubt that they will. death may only be temporary for most bots as long as most of their body is intact and / or repairable, but from the death of Bumblebee i feel like its pretty obvious that a lot of bots' deaths are here to stay, whether we like it or not. Jetfire was also never meant to be revived. his corpse was gonna be used for travel until Hasbro stopped DWJ. it was too dark, they said.

I found myself intrigued and actually puzzled when I saw Shockwave be so emotional in this new universe, as I was a fan of the emotionless and devotee to logic of the Aligned continuity and IDW. However I will admit this Shockwave is just as scary with how he just revels in the pain he causes.
This rendition of Shockwave almost has a "Dr. Mengele" aspect to him - like he's turned Cybertron into his own personal death camp. It was clear he and Soundwave weren't fully aligned, at least as far as methodology went.
@@Jay_The_Cat I totally agree! Soundwave just turning away from Shockwave’s experiments really say to me that he very much disagreed with his methods and code, but believed he would need him to revive cybertron. I truly believe that Soundwave would’ve absolutely shot Shockwave at some point for trying to grind down Ravage tho lol
@thataintfalco7106 For sure, look at what he did to Starscream for "kicking his Ravage" - it was obvious that Shockwave saw this kind of emotional attachment as illogical and irrelevant. They would have came to blows eventually.
I think I prefer an emotionless Shockwave. It really allows for the potential of autobots to have some ideological growth through facing a truly evil cybertronian that is nearly impossible to relate with or convert. I believe he’s meant to represent the cold and consuming nature of war, death for death’s sake. Carnage for carnage’s sake. Yes, war isn’t necessarily pointless, but there is always this evil layer to it that I think Shockwave appropriates well. Besides, in a lot of continuities (or really his best known role in IDW), he is but a product of cybertron’s corruptness, still relating him to the war itself and showing just how society plays a part in the creation of it’s own greatest problems. I hope I did a well enough job of articulating this (didn’t seem so to me). Truthfully speaking I wrote this comment out of love (simply enjoyment) of the character of Shockwave and a desire to grow as a thinker, this wasn’t necessarily hard to think of but I did have to think about some of the wording.
