Returning to a certain hot-headed G1 character and the themes his character arc has represented ever since the Transformers 1986 animated movie reveals an awful lot about the story this comic is telling...

More seriously though I’m happy seeing the Quintessons get so much use here after their almost complete absence from IDW.
Same! Now, if we can just get the Junkions into a somewhat prominent and recurring role then I'll be a happy camper.
Skuxxoid reads like a Kirkman fave, so expect him to suffer I’m thinking of the part he went home.

@@yungprince8375were you blind 40 years ago.? When Prime kept moving his requiem blaster in the movie, it was hot rod preventing Prime from getting a clear shot at Megatron. That’s why Megs had time to look at a gun, get a gun, aim at Prime, and shoot him.
I have a theory that the mysterious robot that’s following Skuxxoid is a creation and servant of Primacon. Perhaps this robot could be part of a similar line of robots that the ancient mad scientist has scattered throughout the universe to observe events and report to him about people or things of interest to him.
Interesting theory! Could very well be. I wonder what he'd want with Skuxxoid. 🤔
@@Moonbase3 perhaps he learned about Skuxxoid obtaining Derek and Soliaia's homemade ship and giving to the Quintessons and could be interested in the sacred ring for different reasons from the Quintessons. Perhaps he might be interested in the black hole surrounding it. And he may be having that robot tail Skuxxoid in case the bounty hunter comes across something else that might catch his eye.

Not sure what to say with this one. It was just a solid read and I can't wait to see more of Hot Rod.
Agreed, it was a good issue. Sounds like we might have to wait a bit to see more of Hot Rod as Skybound teased that he'll arrive at the Sacred Ring for #15. Although, I suppose we could see him again before that while he's en route as well.
We will see more of Hot rod in issues 14 - 15 as revealed in Skybound's panel in SDCC 2024 just now
Thank you for reviewing this issue of VR. And yes, I loved the numerous G1 Transformers cartoon and movie references sprinkled here, like Chaar, Bosch, name drops of Manocus and Lord Gyconi, the training droid Hot rod was sparring with just like he did in the 86' movie.

Something I’ve noticed in some of the recently revealed void rivals covers for issue 14 is that Darak seems to have a new ship that he’s piloting around. Coincidentally it seems to have very similar colors to Hot Rod. He’s also very prominently featured on a variant cover for that same issue. Makes me wonder, is he gonna be a triple changer in this continuity? I sure hope so
That's true, the ship does kinda share a similar color scheme. Interesting thought! But, I wonder how much we can trust the solicit info, as it seems like Hot Rod won't get to the Sacred Ring until issue 15. I guess we'll see...!
Glad that Darak got a moment to shine, he is my favorite alien character so far in Void Rivals. He went through so much - sent to a dangerous mission, backstabbed, use as a pawn by his father, tortured but also seeing the bigge picture of what going on with the water/energy issue. If funny how a pair of yellow aliens are way more willing to put their differences when the situation arises than a couple of giant robots, but then I may be simplification their situations. I can see some glimpses of Hot Rod and Optimus.
And for Solila, it's kinda shameful that she is leaving the group. But I think her reasons are more personal, Darak easily shake all her beliefs that she uphold, despite her previous actions, he was still willing to give her a hand, and maybe all this is making reconsider a lot of what she has been taught as a warrior.

Thank you! I think you make some really good points here and that you're on to something in seeing similarities with Hot Rod and Optimus. As for Solila leaving, here's hoping it's just temporary! I'm guessing she's going to be going on her quest into the depths solo, which could be interesting!

I sometimes forget how divisive of a character he can be. I'm a big fan of the character and his arc in the animated movie (and subsequent characterization as Rodimus Prime), but I also like to poke fun at him from time to time. 😂

Wonder if Devcon will actually ever be brought up in these comics, I feel like he’d fit here nicely in Void Rivals, who knows? Maybe that little tv bot is working for him!
Maybe so! That could be cool! It feels like it's just a matter of time until we see Devcon at this point.

Him ending communications with "My Lord" seems to hint that Lord Gyconi is his master, but that feels like a red herring because Lord Gyconi can't possibly be that important, can he?
Some People are theorising that his "lord" /master is Primacron!
I wondered if it might be Lord Gyconi as well, but I'm leaning towards it being someone else. Primacron would be interesting, too. Hoping for an all-new character, personally, but we'll see what happens!
Finally caught up, and man this issue was good! Not as good as the previous, but I think this set us up for a great arc finale next ish. Great review as always MB3!

Where are yall buying these issues, I didn't even know it was 11 issues of Void Rivals. I'm trying to get thise universe but having trouble getting info on issues, from Void, Transformer & G i joe
If you have a local comic book shop, then they should be able to set up a subscription for you. You can just tell them you want all the Energon Universe titles and they can help you out. Alternatively (or if you don't have a comic store nearby), you can set up an online subscription with www.mycomicshop.com (under the "Preorders" tab) and they'll send you the comics.
If you prefer digital issues, they're available on Amazon and Google Play. Amazon also has physical and digital copies of the trade paperbacks for Void Rivals volume 1, Transformers volume 1, Duke, and Cobra Commander.

with the Zertonians getting their hands on the full use of Energon is a major shift in power for the war on the Sacred Ring and considering that the Quintisons are coming they are going to need it. Darek is shaping up to the idea hero while Solila is shaping into the classical anti-hero, Kirkman still hasn't shown what the key is for, hoping its given an explanation in issues 12. Very interested/hyped for issues 13. there are few space facing races introduced in the sunbow cartoons but given Energon Universe's history at reinvigorating old characters like Cobra-La, I could see Kirkman introduce the Lunartix Empire from the G.I. Joe's Star Brigade as the employers of the mysterious spy.
Lunartix Empire would be a sweet addition! Considering how well they've handled Cobra-La so far, I say go for it! And yeah, I'm really hoping we find out more about Solila's quest soon...

The video - this is why I stopped doing these and watch yours. The story - finally seems to be moving (even if the slowness didn't make it in any way 'bad' up to this point.
Theories - I have no idea who the little robot is, especially since that robot is clearly not with the Quints. If they're setting up Hot Rod for the 'usual' redemption arc, it seems a distant way to do it, but we're not there yet on whether I'm on board with that idea.
Darak's ability to beat Solilla seemed more an act of will than any real fighting skill. I, too, am looking forward to where this is all going with next issue, especially since I don't look at solicits for Void Rivals.
That's a good point about Darak vs. Solila - just sheer force of will and desperation, maybe. He's pretty lucky that she didn't summon her spear to just impale him, though!
Definitely agree that the little robot is not with the Quints...I'm extremely curious to see who he's working for!

I think in regards to the fight in issue 1, the only reason Darak won is because of the pair tumbling down the hill and Darak getting luckier.

Im only reading optimus and his gang battling the decepticons currently in energon universe . Is hot rod and springer gpnna join optimus anytime soon ? According to void rivals
Not looking like it'll be anytime soon, unfortunately, as Hot Rod will continue to be part of Void Rivals in issue 15, which is around 4 months out. But, Springer and Hot Rod could potentially appear in TF during flashbacks.
Is it just me or is the artist getting inspired by DWJ work, the action feels more Johnson this arc compared to last.
I didn't notice a difference, but maybe I'll look again - could be!
