Holy algorithm 👀🤯 Thanks for all the subs y'all, this has been unexpected to say the least. Gonna do my best to get organized for once in my life and put out videos on a regular basis
Just pace yourself my friend. If there's something I learned since learning video production in a class last semester, it's that making a game is difficult, and even just basic editing of gameplay footage can get a bit exhausting. Nonetheless, I hope this gets a lot of attention, I'm excited to see where this goes!
EPIC vid! Would you be interested in doing a video on what you did when/after publishing this video to get it to blow up so quickly? I think it's well earned but was surprised the video had so many views given that it's the first one posted to this channel!
4:39 fun fact, approach b is actually how good skiers ski down the hill. We’re taught to keep our bodies perpendicular to the hill, approach c would cause you to lose control because your centre of gravity would shift back, which would almost certainly cause you to fall
I had to look this up to confirm but you're totally right. Today I learned something new about my own poor skiing form lol. I'll be adding some of this upper body rotation to the character's ski form (as well as my own)
@@solomon-gumball if approach b looks to "aggressive" you could do a soft parenting thing, where the upper body inherits like, half of the rotation of the lower body, having control over that would let you do a lot, you could also make the fraction proportional to speed, so if they go faster they lean more into it, (but clamped between some values like 0.5 and 1)
Great video I actually found your video when searching for dev logs and you were 4th from the top Your voice is nice to listen to, the music isn’t too loud, good video content, decent pacing You’ve earned a sub, 100 shouldn’t be too far off
Thank you, this means a lot! I've been a big fan of dev log videos for a while so it's great to hear I can make something that other people might enjoy. Thanks for the sub!
the part a t 2:20 had me chuckling, i love this type of "we are being productive, but look at how silly this looks" type content, keep up the great work
Something funny is that this video came out the day I went on a skiing trip. I’m working on a game myself, but I don’t plan on making devlogs. I wish the best for you, and I’m sure that it will turn out great if you work hard on it. Best of luck!
Hey great video! I'm a month into my own solo dev project, and it's really cool to see others' work in UE5! Really excited for the progress and the game!
Awesome video! I really liked how you explained the creation/blue printing process in more detail of certain features you added instead of just listing off the things you added.
this looks really nice. You definitivly have to add falling off skies to the ragdoll. I think it would be funny to see your charakter explode and the skies and handles comming off
Some people just got it, man... UA-cam be recommending me small channels that instantly go to my notification tab for a few days now. The game is looking awesome, it is presented in a great way, you're interacting with your comments in a meaningful way - not a bland "Thank you", keep it up, I'll be following along! =]
Damnn you remember SkiFree, I played that game all the time at school! Game looks great, I haven't played a skiing game in a long time and this brought me back. Will be waiting on future updates. Keep it up!
Came across your video on my feed! Loved the amount of work you produced on your first devlog and thr UA-cam algorithm indeed treated you well. Keep it up :).
Great video! It's cool to see the development process in Unreal Engine. It seems to have a lot of useful tools which are lacking in Unity. I wonder what it's like to work with Blueprints.
Thanks! I've never used Unity before so I can't speak to all the differences, but I've really enjoyed using Blueprint. The debugging tools are great too. I do wish Unreal had the learning resources and documentation that Unity has tho...
Thanks UA-cam for recommending me this video, it's exactly what I needed! I'm a beginner in gamedev, without any experience with coding that wants to build a similar game, but with running. This video will be the kickstart of my journey in learning Godot and C# to build that game. Thanks! 🙏🏻
Looks really fun! You should add a lean for speed mechanic where you press a button like shift to gain speed, but when you are leaning it makes it much harder to steer. This will ad some interesting depth and a fun mechanic. It would be perfect for the jump as well. You can alter the speed to alter the distance of the jump. Great video!
Definitely want to add something like this, thanks for the suggestion. Was thinking the same thing where leaning would increase acceleration but make turning more difficult. More on that in a future devlog
Crazy that you're working on this as some of these concepts are what I'm working on in unity. I'm working on a game where you explore an ice planet with Skiing mechanics, but amplified, like the Tribes series. Would love to pick your brain on the physics for this.
Your style reminds me of Matt D'Avella. Great video and props to you. You didn't mention any time durations, but it seems to me that you are quick to pick up new skills and knowledge which is a key component for gamedev :D
Awesome. Can't wait to wishlist the game! Looks like a great game. I love the SSX series and I could always do with a new party game to add to game nights with my friends
Good work! If you're having problems with level design you could load in a heightmap that resembles a mountainy area and adjust the output mesh to create a nice ski slope
Great devlog! Love the pacing and the concepts here! Regarding gamedesign however it looks like the camera angle will have the player guessing a bit, which ofc adds some chaos but just doesn't seem right.. it does look good though and I ofc havent played this and there might be some solutions to mitigate my concern if its even valid. Looking forward to next episode!
Yea you're not wrong about that. I'm still playing around with it but I've found that when the camera generally leans in the direction of the course it gives the player some insight into where they'll be going. Still testing this tho. Hopefully will have a demo in a couple months then I can get some feedback.
I just like the overall ideia of a ski game. I used to play a snowboard game on a Nintendo DS, and this with Multi-player I think is has a ton of potential to make success. Simple, good.

Perhaps this could happen when you activate a boost or something. :)

Yeah, I was gonna say. I only see small children or 1st time skiers do C

Came here to say this.. Well done ski-sir
The falling snow really made it come together. Nice work, this is turning into a cool little game
I hope it is not little
That is looking crazy satisfying and fun already. Can't wait to play that one, whenever that point will come.
Thank you! Planning on having an early stage playable demo at some point. Will keep you posted!
I like this idea for a game. I was thinking about games I loved before starting mine too. I can't wait to see the finished product!
