The Blue Shadows from Vancouver, were a Juno Award-nominated alt-country band that existed between 1992 and 1996, releasing two albums in Canada on Sony Music. The origins of the group are referenced to Billy Cowsill and Elmar Spanier, who had been performing as The Billy Cowsill Band, playing traditional country songs. The group's first album, On The Floor of Heaven, released on Bumstead Records and distributed by Sony, was certified gold in Canada, for sales in excess of 50,000 copies. They also received a 1994 Juno award nomination as Best Country Group or Duo.
Feb 18, 2020.. it’s been 14 years since the Mentor passed. He said he had the Old Man Trifecta - osteoporosis, Cushing Syndrome and emphysema.. and then he passed 🌹 rest well Bill
Listening to deliver me in southern CA now. Billy and Elmar would play on the small stage in "our" pub in North Van. More local musicians for Friday and Saturday nights. And eventually Jeff Hatcher showed up. Absolute magic.
johnny bravo - my thoughts absolutely! I was lucky enough to play guitar with the great Billy Cowsill when I was a green, nervous 18 yr old guitar picker; I’ll never forget my time performing with him- monster talent! RIP Billy Cowsill 🙏
@Stan Jung Billy was also in a Canadian band called Blue Northern. This was after The Cowsills and before Blue Shadows. Blue Northern had a number of Top 40 radio hits.
Bill was always my favorite Cowsill, not the cutest one, but my God, that voice and so much natural talent. Unfortunately, so much pain in that family that left horrible scars. I feel confident that Bill, Barry, Rich and Barbara have finally found the peace and love they deserve. Thanks for posting this video.
@@martyzielinski2469 Billy def was the cute one...and the one that was the major talent of the Cowsills. When they were young all were cute...but later on Billy's talent really shone thru.
Dancing couple in the darkness is both beautiful and frightening at the same time. Guess the song is about all that---"come deliver me, from this night"...
I was lucky enough to see the Blue Shadows at the Horseshoe around the time this came out. A wonderful group, and Billy was a great singer. But I also have to mention guitarist Jeffrey Hatcher, who wrote this beautiful song. There's also a fine version of the song on Cross Our Hearts, the sole album by Jeffrey Hatcher and the Big Beat, from around 1987.
This is the best song I’ve heard in 2020 ha!Anybody know who produced the video? Song and imagery reminds me of Northern Pikes and brings me back to growing up here in Canada. Thanks!
These guys performed at my relatives wedding way back when and handed out this album after the show. Wow this song is very special to our family since we expanded across Canada since then. But man this song hits us when it comes on lol
I asked the bass player to ask the other guys to reunite this awesome band even as a trio.. to perform he & drummer are up for it. Make it happen guys such a body of good music to be played
I was sooo lucky to see Billy at the Rusty Gull at least a hundred times he and Elmar rocked it weas often just the two Elmar played stand up bass miss ya Billy
The most insanely talented band destroyed by the father. If Bill could have just got alway from the drugs he would have just taken the world. What’s been done cannot be undone and the abuse is carried forward. Amazing man and soul deep music. What a loss.
That jingle-jangle-twang!!! Dang, that was heavenly...saw these guys at neighborhood club in '93. Billy & Jeffery delivered a smokin set of ForEverly/early Beatles, blissful harmony❗️❗️ 🇨🇦
This fantastic song and "If it Ain't Rockin" are my total favorites. Can someone load the other song? There is a live version on YT but not the album version.
use to always sing this song every weekend in the bars girls would just go crazy for us mean my late brother the good alway die young...... love you bro one day we will sing again....
Awesome, awesome, awesome! Love this song so much. What fantastic voices and harmonies. Funny to think Billy's family group was who The Partridge Family was based upon.
When I found out why Billy was no longer part of the Cowsills my first thought was that he must have been absolutely devastated and lonely, despite being married. Billy raised those kids. Billy and Bob were prolific writers by the time Billy was 15. Bud certainly didn't raise them. Barbara wasn't the best at Motherhood either. So, the four oldest boys found a way to get out of the house. A way that they were a natural at - they sang and played instruments. Bud was a bully and the first time that anyone around these kids saw bruises or signs of abuse, the police should have been called.
Not really. Bill got clean and stayed clean until the day he died. By 2000, he looked good and healthy. It took him two years to get clean. When he died he had emphysema, osteoporosis, and Cushings.
Reminds me of the time i was sent to jail, my first offense. Sitting in remand not knowing i was sitting with murders. They asked me why i would be in remand, if i were sentened. I hot ten monthes in 1994 i didnt get out until 1999. One word RACISM nothin but a memory as i said when i was released.
I saw Bill(y) Cowsill many times in Vancouver. I don't recall the name of the group he was with or even if they had one. They played regularly at a bar my ball team went to after games (yes, beer league). I lost track of him until I heard and fell in love with 'On the Floor of Heaven' disc.
Was that Darby's Pub at 4th and MacDonald in Vancouver!! I am sure as I was bar manager there from 1988 to 1991 [correction] and we booked him on "slow" tuesday's . What a voice R.I.P. Billy

Why didn't they stay together as a group?
Jeffrey's song along, with Billy's massive knowledge and talent created a perfect song.
Couldn't agree more!!
Perfect is the correct word

This song from the past sounds good now.
Had the good fortune of seeing him (Billy) in small pubs (Darby D Dawes anyone?) during his Vancouver days around 1990. Amazing voice
The legendary Billy Cowsill! He is greatly missed.
got drunk and played this so much after the passing of my baby sister… nice to hear it again 💯💯💯💯
Fantastic harmonies. Incredible voice. UA-cam is a tree that blossoms eternally. Long live Billy Cowsill in the ears of everyone :^)
This is truly one of the best country songs I have ever heard !
Loved listening to this. Again and again. 😁❤️
Bill Cowsill was a genius... He Barry and Richard Cowsill are missed
I was 18 when this song came out and I would crank it everytime it came on the radio, loved it then and still love it now. Awesome song.

The days of the Rusty Gull. Billy was the best and deserved better. Rip
Remarkable how Billy Cowsill channels a strong Hank Williams vibe with The Blue Shadows. Talented guy, whatever he did.
Great singer.
Found it finally.Heard it once before but didn't know who sang it.

*Driving at midnight and the moon is*
Looking right at me
I can feel it settling down on me
Over me
Come deliver me from this night
When I left you standing so alone
Then I started wondering
But I don't mind saying it now
Oh please come to me
Come deliver me from this night
Ahh that love we had found
Well we drove it underground
Deliver me
This canyon's on fire now
And I'm wondering
How much longer will it be
Till it comes tumbling down
Over me
Come deliver me from this night
Ahh that love we had found
Well we drove it underground
Deliver me
Yeah all that love we had found
Well we drove it underground
Deliver us from our yesterdays
Hold us together if it can't be done
Deliver us from all that might be
If we get what we think we want
Ahh deliver me
Driving at midnight and the moon is still
Looking right at me
I can feel it settling down on me
Over me
Come deliver me from this night
Ahh that love we had found
Well we drove it underground
Deliver me
Oh please deliver me
Come on now deliver me
Come on now deliver me
Deliver me from this night
Deliver me
Deliver me
Come on come on come on now deliver me
From this night
Deliver me
Come on, come on deliver me
From this night
