Dang this sucks. I know how demotivating the drop offs can be. I went through 2 massive plateaus in the last couple years and through consistent posting was eventually able to get back into the algorithm. Love Elliot's stuff, hope he makes it through this
First time I saw Elliot was Alex's Star Wars gaming updates segment. Loved his BF2 videos and he seems like a real nice guy! He doesn't deserve this shadow ban.
As a avid UA-cam consumer i can tell you that there have been bad changes made to recommended videos. It used to be when you clicked on a video you would be recommended more videos by that specific creator off to the side. Now those recommendations have been replaced by your more broader interests, sort of an extension of the home page. Bonehead changes like that stunt growth for everyone and it’s sad to think that its done intentionally.
Elliot deserves nothing but success on UA-cam. We've been friends for years now and I can't think of any point where he hasn't been just the nicest, most humble person in the Battlefront community.
Same thing happened on my channel just as I was getting started. Videos were getting thousands of hits the first few days, then suddenly, it stopped showing my videos even to my subscribers. People had to actively search for my videos or follow links. It’s like they’re forcing us to pay for advertising just to get our content seen.

There is some evidence that "Shadow banning" is something the algorithm does not based on your content but based on your viewers. If too many of your viewers watch things that youtube doesn't like, it assumes your content is also "something it doesn't like" and stops showing it to non-subs. There is therefore almost nothing a creator can do when this happens. It's also very hard to break out of as once non-subs aren't shown the videos your viewers are locked into the group that youtube has already decided enough of are "undesirables".
@@xp8969 I doubt thats the case, it may be that some clips channels are being nuked like this because of watch time or viewer retention, I've definitely heard that some channels that aren't getting certain amounts of watch time are just not being recommended because the algorithm sees that statistic and thinks "this video is probably clickbait or really low quality". UA-cam clips channels may trigger this by virtue of being shown to users upon login, or because people are just scrolling through very quickly. Not sure why the entire channel would get that treatment, it's likely some incredibly strange bug or an intentional shadowban.

My guess is that the beginning of the Christmas campaign in the west has shifted advertiser interests, maybe coupled with some UA-cam testing of a more aggresive algorithm in that regard. Unfortunately this is a catch 22, recovering from that situation on your own is pretty much impossible. UA-cam algorithms "watch" videos and assign a bunch of weights to them, which to a human look arbitrary but you can think of as a sort of clasification or "tag". These algorithms also "tag" channels in the same way based on their content and these "tags" are used to decide what advertising demographic you fall into. It's pretty much impossible to un-train or steer away the algorithm from the box it puts you in, which is why many UA-camrs say the algorithm rewards consistency and not changing topics often. If you really want to help him the only thing you can do is do collabs, showcase his content and hope people organically click on his channel's content from yours (the organic part is key, clicking on description links for example is pointless, it has to be either a search or a click from the right side recommends column, and even better if people click on the headline buttons to refine it from say "All" to "Star Wars"). This situation is actually pretty common in the Pokemon gaming side of UA-cam and Poketubers often find themselves needing to help eachother with this kind of collabs.

Both enjoyed the success that their broadened horizons helped earn them, and it's definitely something to consider.

With all due respect I really don't think shadowbans exist on UA-cam even if it feels that way. These clips channels blow up overnight like mine did too, but with quick growth comes quicker-than-usual decline. I had hundreds of thousands of views easily every vid, got sick once, was inactive and then down to a few thousand a vid. I felt "shadowbanned" too but truth is that this "star wars clip" market is very oversaturated now, it IS harder to compete. Also Kenobi hype has died off.
I think it's due to how the new app treats shorts. Before, shorts would appear in my subscription feed. Now they're relegated to Shorts only reels, which I don't click. If they're in my subscription feed, I click.
The best advice for any UA-camr is to get channels going on other services. If more creators were available elsewhere, it would be far easier for viewers to drop UA-cam
Its kinda funny that UA-cam showed me vids from your shorts channel and I enjoyed them, so I subscribed to the shorts channel and like a week back or so I subscribed on this channel as well

I have been convinced for years now that UA-cam is trying to transition to corporate (or government, ngo, etc) contracted influencers (even if the public doesn’t know they are that), and official channels. They are just doing it slowly enough to not lose their reputation as an organic platform of user created content.
You're very right about that, I've always had X amount of months of salary saved up plus potential back-up jobs so I wouldn't be in any financial trouble if my YT-income disappeared from one day to another! With that being said, I really WANT to continue doing this full-time as I'm very passionate about it and if it were to die down due to some stupid YT-bug or shadow-ban it would really suck compared to if it was just a natural slow decline.
The VR game "Contractors" has a Star Wars mod with weapons, models, and maps. SQUAD also has a Star Wars mod. I think Star Wars games will be kept alive by the fans

What I'm wondering is if it was just an algorithm change over night. A lot may know that UA-cam has a algorithm and with Shorts being very new compared to long form content they might've changed how the site worked and all of a sudden a certain content style or genre might be pushed less. I really think it's misleading and maybe ignorant to call it a shadow ban. I wonder if anyone else is experiencing this right now. Eck is a great content creator and I understand he wants to see his friends succeed but maybe it's less than what he thinks.

Its very possible this has more to do with under the hood Star Wars popularity metrics that the AI is relying on to push videos onto to new people. He might have just got caught in a blind spot where his specific content isn't conforming to what the AI thinks people wanna see. Often times this is a miscalculation on the part of the AI based on how it interprets viewer interaction. I am assuming that since there doesn't appear to be anything "controversial" that the creator has done, nor has he expressed views that Disney/Star Wars might object to.
Could UA-cam be any less subtle about this?? If you’re unwilling to be unbiased, especially when running an entire social media platform, in this case UA-cam, you have no right to be where you are and should get a vastly different job. Nobody should have to go through this. Eckharts having to stand up for a fellow youtuber is one of those things where it’s great but overall sad that he even has to do this in the first place. We’re people, not pawns in a game for UA-cam’s twisted entertainment.

Actually had a problem with youtube shorts. Was not getting any of my normal recommendations, just political videos and the press two buttons guy for a long while. Then it suddenly reverted back.
I do not like clips compared to normal videos. the format is not nice, and I would much rather watch longer videos with a nicer format and higher quality. that said, I understand it takes a lot more work, to do normal videos.
Really I think you don't understand. Many people dislike short form youtube content; if you want to post clips - go to tiktok. "overnight" is an overtly overused term, it's a misrepresentation of this circumstance. I won't be watching any content from ecks clips either. This drop in views is attributed to the algorithm sub sequencing the notion that people are beginning to think the way I am right now; and thus his videos are being pushed less.
Was never to compassionate about the strife of gametubers, especially now that they want to do even less real work and put out clips, id rather youtube keep with the ad revenue and defund these chhannels.
If clips isn't making it, and regular vids aren't making it, I can only imagine what live stream only is doing. I'm not 100% SW content, but a lot of what I do is related, but it's all live. This shadow "anything" activities by content managers is just appalling.

With all due respect I really don't think shadowbans exist on UA-cam even if it feels that way. These clips channels blow up overnight like mine did too, but with quick growth comes quicker-than-usual decline. I had hundreds of thousands of views easily every vid, got sick once, was inactive and then down to a few thousand a vid. I felt "shadowbanned" too but truth is that this "star wars clip" market is very oversaturated now, it IS harder to compete. Also Kenobi hype has died off.

I think it's due to how the new app treats shorts. Before, shorts would appear in my subscription feed. Now they're relegated to Shorts only reels, which I don't click. If they're in my subscription feed, I click.
The best advice for any UA-camr is to get channels going on other services. If more creators were available elsewhere, it would be far easier for viewers to drop UA-cam

Its kinda funny that UA-cam showed me vids from your shorts channel and I enjoyed them, so I subscribed to the shorts channel and like a week back or so I subscribed on this channel as well
It seems so senseless that this would happen. How can any creator trust UA-cam when this can happen without explanation or any apparent logic? UA-cam seems like a place that should be logical, but this seems totally random and capricious. Why did this happen?
I have been convinced for years now that UA-cam is trying to transition to corporate (or government, ngo, etc) contracted influencers (even if the public doesn’t know they are that), and official channels. They are just doing it slowly enough to not lose their reputation as an organic platform of user created content.
and thats why it is important to have a secondary backup job at hand so u can switch whenever its needed..

You're very right about that, I've always had X amount of months of salary saved up plus potential back-up jobs so I wouldn't be in any financial trouble if my YT-income disappeared from one day to another! With that being said, I really WANT to continue doing this full-time as I'm very passionate about it and if it were to die down due to some stupid YT-bug or shadow-ban it would really suck compared to if it was just a natural slow decline.

The VR game "Contractors" has a Star Wars mod with weapons, models, and maps. SQUAD also has a Star Wars mod. I think Star Wars games will be kept alive by the fans
I used to watch him all the time as a kid when battlefront 2015 was at its peak, this is incredible unfair and he does not deserve this.
I kind of feel like you, Elliot, Alex, Mollie, etc should start some kind of "Nebula" kind of service to eventually leave behind UA-cam. UA-cam has become too strong. If there is money involved, they should not be messing around like this.

What I'm wondering is if it was just an algorithm change over night. A lot may know that UA-cam has a algorithm and with Shorts being very new compared to long form content they might've changed how the site worked and all of a sudden a certain content style or genre might be pushed less. I really think it's misleading and maybe ignorant to call it a shadow ban. I wonder if anyone else is experiencing this right now. Eck is a great content creator and I understand he wants to see his friends succeed but maybe it's less than what he thinks.
If it was a systemic change as you suggest, it would have impacted 'shorts' equally across the platform which it did not.

Its very possible this has more to do with under the hood Star Wars popularity metrics that the AI is relying on to push videos onto to new people.
He might have just got caught in a blind spot where his specific content isn't conforming to what the AI thinks people wanna see. Often times this is a miscalculation on the part of the AI based on how it interprets viewer interaction.
I am assuming that since there doesn't appear to be anything "controversial" that the creator has done, nor has he expressed views that Disney/Star Wars might object to.
Could UA-cam be any less subtle about this?? If you’re unwilling to be unbiased, especially when running an entire social media platform, in this case UA-cam, you have no right to be where you are and should get a vastly different job. Nobody should have to go through this. Eckharts having to stand up for a fellow youtuber is one of those things where it’s great but overall sad that he even has to do this in the first place. We’re people, not pawns in a game for UA-cam’s twisted entertainment.

Be good if some more big youtubers made a video for Elliot and others who got the kill switch. UA-cam sees a bunch of people all making videos about the same guy, that might give the guy a second chance.

I do not like clips compared to normal videos. the format is not nice, and I would much rather watch longer videos with a nicer format and higher quality. that said, I understand it takes a lot more work, to do normal videos.

Really I think you don't understand. Many people dislike short form youtube content; if you want to post clips - go to tiktok. "overnight" is an overtly overused term, it's a misrepresentation of this circumstance. I won't be watching any content from ecks clips either. This drop in views is attributed to the algorithm sub sequencing the notion that people are beginning to think the way I am right now; and thus his videos are being pushed less.
Was never to compassionate about the strife of gametubers, especially now that they want to do even less real work and put out clips, id rather youtube keep with the ad revenue and defund these chhannels.
A youtuber i follow had the exact same, he was getting 1.5 mil views per video and now just 15K if he's luckey

If clips isn't making it, and regular vids aren't making it, I can only imagine what live stream only is doing. I'm not 100% SW content, but a lot of what I do is related, but it's all live. This shadow "anything" activities by content managers is just appalling.
And yet we won't stop using UA-cam...
