Two more great things about the Lambda is that it can be reconfigured to have small staterooms instead of the troop bay and the cockpit is detachable as an escape pod.

The best shuttle was definitely the one from the Old Republic. It was so good that not only was a boatload of Sith able to penetrate Coruscant in one, it also survived being driven straight through the front of the Jedi Temple.

The Hopper? They’re alright, though its worth noting their scale is all over the place. In the game it’s barely large enough for the player to walk up the ramp, makes it hard to believe its a shuttle tbh
I love the Nu-Class from the Clone Wars era because of its usefulness as a gunship, but the Rho-Class which is a variant that pops up later in the war is actually my favorite. It takes a step toward the Lambda in that it has the larger dorsal fin, but it also has a detachable cargo bay underneath that could be used in many different ways adding a ton of versatility.
Same, it reminds me a lot of the ISSAPC from Space: Above and Beyond
That would’ve been a perfect replacement for Mando ‘s Razor Crest given to it was Pre-Imperial

I really like the Nu as well. Maybe because it has a more industrial/military look to it, whereas the Lambda is so smooth and polished that it looks more "idealized" rather than "real"?
The CIS shuttle gets an extra point because Adam Savage built the one for The Phantom Menace

The Lambda will forever be a favorite, it looks so elegant and stately compared to the drab and brutalist architecture of an imperial hangar bay and escorting Tie Fighters. I like how in the new canon the designer based the ship off of an origami on their desk.

Idk but I love the Sheathapede. The design just looks so Star Wars-y to me.
Whilst the Lambda will always be far and away my favourite design, the CIS shuttle is still cool as hell.

One particularly interesting detail is that there were variants with an integrated droid brain instead of a separate pilot/navigator droid, like some late-model X-wings.
@@JohnGeorgeBauerBuisthat is correct and with that droid brain they could drive themselves without a pilot. That’s the one Grievous arrives in on Utapau I love all Separatist ships and I’m glad that it even came out in Rebels and became the 2nd Phantom.
I personally have a preference for the Nu-class shuttle. Not because I think it's better, but because it's closer to my _true_ favorite, the Rho-class shuttle. I just love the idea of having the modular cargo pods available to change the mission profile of the ship on the fly.

I like its versatility and customizability, which are also things I like about the Lambda.
I’m glad to see this series return. An idea for another video of this series could be “Which Skywalker had the best ship” you could do both legends and canon, like the Anakin Solo owned by Darth Caedus and then we can use Anakin/Vaders Executor, and Kylo Ren’s ship and maybe if Luke had one we could use that

Yeah Kylo's command shuttle is a gorgeous piece of ship design. I love how it always looks like an eagle swooping down.
There's something menacing about it, I'm reminded of Pink Floyd's Goodbye Blue Sky animation.
It feels like the Lambda could be an outstanding bounty hunting ship with a minor refit, well armed and armored, very fast and with a decent cargo space (not to mention built in escape pod)
I even remember Eck wondering if Din was going to a refitted Lambda as a replacement for the Razorcrest. I think that would have been awesome and super sexy as a bounty hunter craft, but I think the N-1 was also a phenomenal choice if he’s leaving bounty hunting behind.
Not quite a bounty hunter, but way back in the Droids cartoon, a criminal gang member had a modified Lambda called the Voor Viper. It wasn't in very good shape, though. Seeing one tuned for bounty hunting specifically, and well maintained (at least to start), would be pretty cool. Definitely would make sense in the post-GCW era.

I’d like to see a video on the vehicles utilized by the minor galactic factions (Hapans, Hutts, Bothans, Chiss, etc.).
I think the problem with the chiss (and I hope this changes soon) we haven’t really seen many vehicles from them at least visually. I might be missing something in legends but in cannon I think we have only seen a heavy cruiser (man of war?) in the Thrawn comics. Could be wrong but that is the only visual representation of the chiss vechilws I could find.
I took a look specifically around shuttles, and there's not a lot that we've really seen in aciton. There's the TZ-15 used by the Zann Consortium, the Flarestar used by Ohnaka's gang, Mandalorian Kom'rk class is basically a shuttle. There's definitely more outside of shuttles but yeah. The IP as a whole has still relatively barely stepped outside of the core factions. I'd like to see more!

@@CT-5736-Bladez I have seen some older pictures of Chiss versions of Star Destroyers, but apart from the bridge being integrated into the body of the ship, they’re just a standard wedge shape.
I consider the lambda the only good choice the empire made when it came to how they reorganized their space fleet
Ehh I prefer the LAAT. It can transport a squad into battle and provide very heavy fire support. Give it a shield and thicken the armour and it would be lethal. But it’s not a shuttle, it’s a Gunship. But the Empire used the Lambda Class as a troop transport.
@@Gothic7876 the issue I have with the LAAT is that its very much not meant for space. While it was modified to be able to take short trips in space, It is only meant to operate in atmosphere or go immediately into atmosphere.
I gotta go with the Lamda also. Such a classic ship. But I didn’t know that the Republic shuttle was meant to be a long distance replacement for the LAAT. Great video Eck!!

I love how the Star Wars universe even includes information about the doctrine and logistics of each faction.
The best shuttle in my opinion is the Delta t3c shuttle used by krennic, I always liked the design and the fact that its a stealth ship

@@techno639 they have a technology advantage, more than the one between the clones wars and the first galactic civil war and the majority of the rest of the series includes the Rebel Alliance and not the First Order when the Alliance have a viable alternative, something I believe they have

Lambda class shuttles are a true classic, but with my love of the Clone Wars era (phase 1 specifically) the Nu-Class shuttle is one that will always be a top 3 shuttle
The thing about the CIS shuttles is they weren't ever needed for troop transport purposes. Since they're all droids, you just attach them to HMP's and have gunships drop them off (Which we saw frequently in the show), so all you need for the shuttle is space for whoever the organic is and space for a few bodyguards.

Great video.... but the T-6 shuttle from TCW really deserves an honorable mention. While unarmed, its shields could take a beating.... and its ejection system is second to none.
Honorable mention to the MC-24a light shuttle, a small, short-range, maneuverable shuttle meant for use in dangerous environments like asteroid fields or orbits with heavy space debris.

The Lambda will always be my favourite ship design from the entirety of Star Wars, but I do have a lot of admiration for the Upsilon-class too
I was always a fan of the Lambda shuttle, but there is one ship that has sneaked ahead of the Lambda Shuttle on first place of my personal ranking: The Zeta-class heavy cargo shuttle. I love that design!

I'm a 34 year old man that has been flying for 21 years... and the lambda class shuttle is the absolute goat. If I could somehow die and respawn in the Star Wars universe, I bet I'd be all about flying the lambda.
Though I love the spaciousness of the Lambda I really love the geometry of the Sheethapede(sp?) especially the Phantom 2 with the cropped dorsal. Thanks for doing a shuttle vid.

I do like how each of these fit each faction so perfectly. The Republic shuttle was built for war and could double as a troop transport and a transport for high valued Republic officials it probably had a mid level price tag as it wasn't modular but it could still handle multiple roles while being able to defend itself, the Imperial shuttle was built to be modular some versions built for transport of imperial politicians, some for troop transport, and some for use space battles. It probably had a high price (most modular vehicles do) but it made up for it with sheer versatility and overachieving in basically every role given to it, the First Order shuttle was likely very expensive and wasn't meant for full troop transport didn't seem super versatile but it excelled at transporting high level officials and even being a mobile command center like we see in the Last Jedi, the separatist shuttle is a modified business shuttle which pretty much most of the Separatist military was made up of modified business ships, weapons, and equipment. It was likely relatively cheap too being a small vessel meant for shuttling business men around. The CIS just modified it to give it more seats, armor(shields?), And weapons to make it more battlefield capable.

I think one of the reasons that the Lambda performs so well is that it's supposed to perform the role of a shuttle, but also of something like an LAAT.
For future videos, I think something contrasting overall strategies/battle doctrines would be really interesting.
I love the Upsilon shuttle but I think the Xi class light shuttle should have been used for the First Order as the Upsilon is only used by Kylo Ren
Great to see some Factions Compared videos again! This is the format that got me interested in your channel in the first place.
I always thought if I was a bounty hunter I would use the Nu shuttle. There was a lot of them after the war, they can go long distance, and protect themselves. Also without being modified they were already pretty strong. But imagine what you could do with a heavily upgraded one.
The Lambda is a very nice shuttle, although my personal favourite is the Delta-class that Krennic uses in Rogue One. I just love everything about it: the unique, angular design and sleek profile; the black colour, the tri-wing shape, its heavy shielding and armament, it's incredibly fast for a shuttle (sub-hyperspace that is) and let's not forget that awesome vibratory sound its engines make. The Upsilon is my second favourite, both very cool shuttles.
I would like to see how ships change and time line changes kind of more in-depth and how many times it shows up in canon
Personally I prefer not just a comparison between factions but comparisons of various ships in a class, a fav of mine is the TIE reaper.
I love the lambda shuttle but the republic attack shuttle is definitely my favorite. Maybe because I have the LEGO one and a lot of nostalgia from it

As a kid, the Lambda shuttle was always my favorite. Something about the way the wings fold up, made me fall in love with it.
I think the clone wars Era ones look cooler by far, and have more character to them, while the Lambda is more sterile, and militant looking. Both reflect perfectly on the period they're in.
As an adult now in his 30s, my favorite shuttle is the LAAT or the U wing.
I gotta say for looks alone the Epsilon class is my favorite, but for function, it's the Nu class at the top of my list. It just screams SpecWar Dropship to me. Even further solidified with that one scene in Clone Wars where Delta Squad meets members of the Jedi Council from one of them. Reminds me of the US Army 160th SOAR's MH-60LM Black Hawks in that way; sleek, intimidating, and packing quite a punch.
Do you mean the Epsilon as in Palpatine's Shuttle, or did you just misspell Upsilon? Had to ask since both of those exist lol
Edit: nope apparently I'm stupid, Palpatine's is the Theta-class, there is no Epsilon (yet)
The “short lambda” is iconic but the republic’s is the most useful and fills a nice role alongside the short-range LAAT.
On a technical level I completely agree with your ranking, but on a personal level when it comes down to aesthetics alone, the sheathipede is my favorite. Had the LEGO set as a kid and always loved the design.
Love to see you getting back to this! I don't know if I have any particular ideas but something I'd like to see is comparisons between ships within the same faction sharing roles. I'd love to see a good side-by-side of say B-wing verses Y-wing, maybe throw in some other alliance bomber options and/or speculation on how either design could be improved.
I would like to mention that 'wings in space' makes a lot of sense for cooling purposes. You want huge surfaces for radiative cooling.

My favorite shuttle has to be the Omicron class attack shuttle that we know has a modified variant, named Havoc Marauder which is used by the Bad Batch.
It carries a small crew (pilot, co-pilot and a gunner for the rear turret as well as a Battlestation like area) and it can carry a group of passengers and some cargo or specialized equipment. It is capable in offensive attacks as well as defending itself because of the rear laser turret and is still a pretty stealthy spaceship. It can also be docked on the exterior and hatches of other ships to enter them. It has shields and some armor and it seems to also be rather easy to repair. It is fast (it can outrun V-wings) and it also has some nice special features.
From the speed it travels around in Hyperspace it seems to probably have a class 1 hyperdrive. It could also be assisted by an Astromech droid because of the socket which can be useful to help the crew focus on other things, especially in dangerous situations.
If I would live in the star wars universe I would like to be a bounty hunter that works for the people and morally good factions like the rebels and new republic (which means only acting against the bad guys).
I'd love to have it as my personal ship which would be fitted to my chosen job.
First I'd also add some droids to the crew: a Astromech or an modified Astromech like in Solo a Star wars story (you know the humanoid shaped one that acted as a co-pilot and tried to start a revolution) as well as some BX Commando droids dressed in some kind of unified armor and equiped with DC 15 and/or DC 17 blasters because of their quality and the added stun feature, and some kind of non lethal or non lethal close range weapon. The BX's would take crew roles if there is no one else around to do so and to guard the ship while I'm away. I'd also add a GNK droid like the bad batch as a backup power source and if I could happen to get a super tactical droid I'd probably add that too to the crew as an advisor and for operating things like scanners etc.
I'd of course just like the bad batch modify the Omicron class shuttle from the standard version.
I might or might not also modify the weapon systems which would be something like making the side mounted forward facing laser cannons double barreled but having the added extra barrel be a ion cannon which can be fired independently from each other (being able to chose between firing the laser cannon barrel or the ion cannon barrel).
Maybe even a custom nose art and paint job of the ship; the droids and my equipment for identification amongst ally's.
Maybe even a chromium hull upgrade.
I'd use the gas that makes ships and blasters fire green plasma bolts (which if I remember correctly is of the highest quality besides the one that causes the yellow plasma bolts which is/was used by the Mandalorians) to enhance firepower as far as ammunition goes, if I'm able to.
Also these modifications and additions as well as maybe even the omicron class shuttle itself would be possible to get, since after the clone wars and some imperial battles you could scavenge or steal those things around the galaxy or even buy them on the black market.
Maybe do a comparison to find the best dreadnought variant/refit. You’ve got the providence, the alliance assault frigate… the carrier variant? Idk I’m trying but I love these types of videos
comparsion suggestion - compare "main starfighter" of 4 faction, but as price/ability - like, if it is economically better to outfit galaxy-wide army with Z-95/V-wing of the republic, Vultures of CIS, TIE fighters of the Galactic Empire or X-Wings of the New Repbulic (using New Republic instead of Rebellion here, because Rebellion did mainly hit and run attacks)
it would probably also require to estimate price of pilot training and include that in all fighters, except CIS.

I just remember landing the imperial one in rebel ships on bf2 on Playstation and then storming it with other troopers and I remember it was slow but beefy and had missiles and a rear gunner
Would it be too on-the-nose to have a Lambda shuttle called the Delta Flyer? Lambdas are my favourites too -- and the favourites of my protagonist in most of my Star Wars fanfics, the Chiss Empress of the Empire of the Hand, Xelarra. As your video proved, with good reason!

We have 3 typical military shuttle and the upsilon which seems to be mainly used by high ranking officers of the first order.
Not sure if the first order had a more common use shuttle. Maybe that one where Finn and Rose stole.

I love the phantom to something about the fact they replaced the phantom with it just makes it’s so much cooler kinda reminds me of the Rebel One ship
A video on redundant designs within single faction would be interesting.
Sheatipede is actually the fastest from all those, especially in athmosphere, and this also shoild be consider as defensive, also speed is essential for what shuttles really need to do.

Up to season 7 of the Clone Wars I’d have said the Lambda, but when I first saw the Marauder swoop onto the landing bay on Anaxes my mind changed. That ship looks the business
I love this format, plz do more. Perhaps you could recover old topics with different factions, cause there are way more than 4. Potentially also including other sci fi universes, (I personally would love to see more starcraft)

The Lambda-class shuttle is the best. It looks like a VIP craft, yet armed like a gunship. It was fast, tough and could wreak you. It had enough room to transport whole squads and their gear...or a small group of VIPs in comfort. It is as effective in atmosphere as space.
Just wanted to mention, I think the shot in the first minute showing the Lambda Shuttle approaching and landing on the Death Star, does an incredible job displaying the sheer immense SIZE of the DS. It truly beggars belief to imagine the staggering effort and cost it would take to build such a thing.
Which of course makes the efforts of The New Order turning an entire PLANET into a Super Death Star, absolutely hilarious. ;)
As for personal fave Shuttle, I'll take the Nu over the Lambda for a few reasons, not the least being I can buy two Nus for the price of one Lambda and still get most of the same features.
The Lambda has always seemed like one of those workhorse do-it-all transport chassis despite the on-screen charisma. I see it like a Huey or a C-47; with a few days and minimal resources you can reconfigure them into a medical transport, a gunship, a VIP transport, a light cargo mover, all while out on active duty. The others seem more like dedicated executive shuttles, having more in common with a small private jet or a naval "captain's launch" than a general-purpose unit. Rolling up to the docking bay on a Lambda is like General Patton riding in a jeep - the station garrison probably uses it for R&R runs on the weekends - vs. the Nemoidians exiting their Honda Business Jet with the wine fridge.
Great to see a return to this series! I've always loved the designs of the Lambda and the Sheathapede, whereas the others always felt more forgettable.
In the future it would be cool to see you maybe compare which faction has the best dropship, mostly because I really wanna see how the LAAT stacks up against the others. The empire has had a few designs across canon and legends and the CIS seem to forgo dropships in favour of their huge deployment craft, however that's all based on my more limited memory of things.
Every shuttle is iconic imo, and then we have that Snickers Bar atrocity from the Resistance

I loved the lambda class ever since I was a kid. It’s just a beautiful ship and the fact that it is useful too is just the cherry on top.
I always wanted a model or lego kit of it.
I like the Sentinel Class Shuttle, it never gets talked about but I wish they added more weapons it dose have rockets but I have seen some cool variations of this shuttle

A maybe cool video could be who the second best Grand Admiral was. We all know Thrawn was number one, but Grunger, Zaarin, and Takel were all very highly skilled GAs.

The Lambda is the most common in the Star Wars Universe and my favorite, the most famous is the Tydirium but also Shuttle AA-23 in X-Wing Alliance when Commander Kupalo defected to the Alliance and later attempted escaping and used Homing Mines to defeat the pursuing X-Wings from the CRS Liberty

I hadn’t realized that the lambda had a rear turret. That said, I’m of the opinion that the best shuttle belongs to Mandalore. The Kom’rk fighter/shuttle can ferry 24 Commandoes and hot drop them, has a very high degree of maneuverability reminiscent of a much smaller snubfighter, and oh yeah, it’s gorgeous. It just fits in with the mandalorian manual of arms really well, packs a punch both forwards and backwards, and is still gorgeous. An honorable mention must go to the kappa class from the late clone wars. Packing a better loading/unloading scheme than it’s competitors, heavier weapons, and more capacity for troops and either walkers or speeder bikes… yeah, hard to argue with a kappa for integrated arms

I had some good times flying the lambda in battlefront ll.
The weird thing about the Sheathipede compared to the rest of the ships on the list is that the normal version is like half the size of the rest. Same deal with the LAAT, it's much smaller than a Nu or a Lambda.
I actually prefer the other First Order troop transport in Force Awakens, the one that kinda looks like a submarine. And also you probably owed a mention to the Resistance Transport, which looks pretty goofy, sure. Has a really inefficient silhouette, but it does serve the one purpose it was designed for: Providing a fancy cinematic view for the front doors opening when people embark or unload.
There's also the Rebel U-Wing, which I think has the issue with being smaller than the other shuttles as well, and that movie has two other new Imperial shuttles as well to consider. I kind of have an aesthetic grudge against the U-Wing, since it looks plenty nice in most circumstances, but you can't see the doors, the main part of the ship indicating its purpose, from any higher angle. It doesn't film well when doing its purpose. It gets wrong the only thing the Resistance Transport got right.
I agree with the list mostly, but I like the Sheathapede a bit more for 3rd spot. It's small profile and maneuverability made this commercial use shuttle a great surprise, adding in just how customizable it is adds versatility.
If Disney didnt crap on the New Republic, we could have gotten an interesting CEC shuttle or like a Mon Cal shuttle. If I recall from the rogue squadron games, the Lamba was a total beast in combat

Since it only appeared once in The Last Jedi, the First Order did have the Xi class shuttle, one which Finn and Rose crash into Crait base after escaping the Supremacy.
