  • Step-by-step how-to video to remove and replace the trunk (or boot or hatch) lift supports on an Audi A3 including the Q3, Q5 and Volkswagen VW Golf and many others.
The problem as these parts wear and ultimately fail is that the trunk or boot no longer stays open, or slams shut, which can be dangerous.
It's a simple and easy job.
    Parts:
    - You will need 2, one for each side.
    - Always check with your parts supplier for correct fitment (Model, Year and Trim Package).
    - Can be purchased online, such as Amazon or the many other online car parts stores, or from the Audi dealership
    Tools required:
    - Flat-head screwdriver
    Caution:
Make sure you have a helper hold the weight of the trunk \ hatch to keep the trunk from falling on you.
Always wear protective eyewear for you and your helper, as there is a step to remove a clip that could fly out and hit you.

The video shows the correct way to replace the trunk struts. The thick part of the strut is attached to the trunk door, and the thin (rod) attaches to the car.

@@HandyVal Oh no I followed another video and inserted them the wrong way around in that case. should this be ok?

They’ll likely still work, but I’m unsure about how long they’ll last in that position. It maybe worthwhile to remove them and then reinstall them.

@@HandyVal thanks so much! I'll just order new ones as I don't want to risk damaging the clip and having the strut fall out and smash the window!

Sorry for not replying sooner. You can certainly reuse the struts you just bought. They’ll work well. The clips will still have a lot of strength.
