Had my Ev6 level 3 spec with the bells and whistles a year now and love it. Looks much better than a Tesla modal y. Don’t get me wrong the tesla is a great car but I think the Kia just looks a bit more classy when parked next to each other.
Hard to understand why Hertz hasn’t negotiated with Marriott to install level 2 chargers at the location. Marriott has recently signed a deal with EV connect to install level 2 chargers at their US properties so I wonder if that complicates the situation.
Good first impression overview. But as an EV6 owner myself (GT-Line), I'll offer some notes: With HDA2, the car will actually perform the lane change. You initiate either by using the first signal position (auto-return), in which case the car will leave the signal on until it's completed the lane change, or the second signal position (latched on), in which case the car will just beep at you after it's done so you can manually turn the signal off. In my experience, the lane change is fairly slow compared to how I'd execute it, and the car often gets confused on bends (or of course if the lane stripes become obscured or disappear or whatever). Having to push the door handles is a little odd, but of course not much different from the Model 3/Y design. In the higher trim packages, the door handles automatically pop out when the car is unlocked, so all you have to do is grab them and open the door like a normal handle. You are right, the wheelbase is longer on Ioniq 5, but EV 6 overall length is slightly more, so it will look a tad larger because of that. As you found, the synthetic motor sound is optional and can be turned off. There are three different variants of sounds, and I found none of them compelling. I keep that turned off too. :) Many others have also commented on the potential problem with roof clearance, but I'm 6'4" and even with sunroof, I fit just fine. Different people have different proportions, so I guess a tall person where their extra height is more in their torso than in their legs might have trouble. But I'd guess most people would fit fine. The seat can be lowered quite a lot, more than I need it to. GT-Line does unlock when you approach, but doesn't remove the need for the power button. I agree, it's a bit weird that it still has the power button, but I think maybe they keep it so that the driver has more fine-grained control over which systems in the car are powered on at any given time (e.g. in "accessory" mode, draining less power from the 12V battery). I was amused by your comment about the phone charger, since another YTuber who compared his Ioniq 5 with the EV6 noted that his phone does _not_ get nearly as hot in the EV6 as it does in the I5. I can neither confirm nor refute, because my phone doesn't have wireless charging.

Dave, there are stories emerging that Ioniq 5 owners in Canada are getting battered with $60k quotes for an unexpected battery replacement. I initially chalked this up to internet FUD, but the story has legs. You and any potential eGMP owners might want to look into this. Makes me relieved that I dumped my I5 for a MY.
Looks like you’re driving the base model. I own the 2024 Kia EV6 GT AWD line package 2. In my EV6 there’s a different design for the steering wheel where the bottom is more flat and the leather stitching and interior design is better. The sound is also better in the higher spec model. I also have a heated steering wheel where on the console it has the touch button option or I can add it as one of my favourites or use the voice system. My model also comes with full powered seats and heating and air conditioning seats in the front, heated ones in the rear. There’s just more added to my model as it’s fully loaded but with that there’s more weight so it reduces my range to 463 KM which I can extend using regenerative braking and turning off the AC or Heat when not needed.
He had the Wind 2WD trim not the base Light trim which they took away and brought it back for 2024. Heated steering wheel would've been standard on any AWD models.
On off button, it is easy to leave the car on at chargers or at a short stop to keep the cabin conformable. Unlike VW which shuts off totally and if you want to leave it on you have to but a weight on the drivers seat is idiotic. Kia could do a dog mode and use the seat sensor and brake arrangement to turn on the car.
Buy a GT Line AWD good as new used for cheaper than LR RWD Wind new. These are worth 12 to 15k less than MSRP once driven off the new car lot, just like my Ioniq 5.
Love my 2022 wind with the tech package. I have the gravity blue with the light interior. No problems so far. My only gripe with the electric cars is the lack of charging stations .(that work) my friend bought a wind 2023 from ST Augustine FL. We had a hell of a time finding a level 3 charger on the way back. Finally found an EVGo in Palm Bay, FL. I was worried because the navigation kept pointing to level 2 chargers. I am worried that if they don’t improve the system in a few years what’s the point of an electric car for a trip?
Wow, it’s an epic fail for them to give you an EV that’s only half charged. If they have no way to charge them at that location, then they shouldn’t be renting them out there. 🙄
Dave - have you seen these videos about Canadian Hyundai owners vehicles being totaled because battery replacement costs of $60k (Canadian) for on their newish EVs? This was on the MotorMouth YT channel. The whole battery replacement repair thing needs to be resolved if BEVs hope to have a place in the future of personal transportation.
Those stories strike me more as a problem with insurance companies just not caring enough yet about getting into repair details when they can just write off the handful of affected EVs for now.
Google "Johnny Bacigalupo Rob Hussey" and read about their experience driving their Tesla Model Y in a heavy rain. Water got into the battery pack, the car failed, and Tesla wanted to bill them £17,374, or about $21,000 for battery pack replacement. Their car was still under warranty, so, my question is: Was the battery pack defective and not sealed adequately to prevent water intrusion or was a significant portion of the car submerged? Amazingly, there have been no updates in the media since this story first appeared in Oct of this year.
I loved Kath's GV60 same as your Lucid, will be good to see it get access to the Tesla Charging network in future then she can get her crystal back that was a luxury car. I like the flat bottom steering wheel being tall makes it easier to get into the drivers seat. Wow Dave...Chequebook(Canadian spelling) reference...the millenials won't have any idea what you're talking about. I know being a Gen X'er but anyone after us won't know what that means. hehe. The sound generator should be turned off once you go above about 20mph I believe, living in a metric country it's 20km/h but not sure what Kia have it set for in the US.
I am wondering if you can check out if the charging issues at a Tesla MagicDock has been resolved yet, and what the charge rate is with preconditioning at a lower state of charge. I would think it should do at least 100KW if not maybe 150KW.
Currently the 800V EVs are limited to 97 kW at Tesla’s DC fast chargers equipped with Magic Dock adapters. At least that was the case a couple of weeks ago.
All safety features are turned on when the car is delivered. Some fool has gone through and turned them off. You did future drivers a favor by putting them back as they should be.
My neighbor with a brand new truck with all options. 1 year later he backed into a car at a parking lot and damaged both cars pretty bad. I said..wait how if you have parking sensors and a back up camera ?! He goes..o I turned off all the sounds , I found it annoying….
Kind of, sort of I'd say. Apparently they ship from Korea with 12v batteries that are absolute crap, they can't handle cold weather at all. So where I live (up north in Europe) a lot of owners has gotten these replaced on warranty (in some cases after some pushback from Kia). They also released an update that wakes the car up more frequently for maintenance charging of the 12v battery that seems to help a lot. After I got the battery replaced, and the update applied I have not had any issues since then.
Not a bad review, but not very much to the point. I don’t really need to see you scrolling through the website, I can do that myself. What is most helpful is driving the vehicle and giving your impressions specifically about the vehicle. I think most of us couldn’t care less about, you passing a Ron DeSantis bus or in general what’s going on in traffic around you. You will up your views and total followers if you make your videos more succinct into the point. I think total within this video there was about 10 minutes of helpful information. The rest of it was fluff that should’ve been edited out.just some constructive criticism from a viewer who has viewed hundreds of videos specifically about electric cars.
Sold my EV6 after a year when they started having failure to charge issues on level 2 but offered only a bandaid fix. Bought a Model Y. So much better than the Kia! I find the side visibility much better in the Y for things like lane changes and merging.
@@tonyn3227 As someone who owns both a Model S and an EV6, I can tell you there are a number of reasons I would choose the latter over the former, including cost/benefit ratio, quality of service (we have had only the worst experiences with our local Tesla service center), and the fact that Tesla's insistence on all these non-standard UI choices drives me up the wall (including the stupid location for the turn signal, and the lack of physical buttons for...well, just about everything). Model 3 makes you look over at the center panel to see your current speed, EV6 puts your current speed (and several other critical pieces of info) right in front of you, and on the HUD on the higher-level trim (I love the HUD in my EV6). It's ridiculous to make a statement that there's no reason for anyone to buy anything other than a Tesla. Tesla cars do have certain strong points, but they have far from _all_ the strong points. People buy the car that meets the priorities they have, and while sometimes that'll mean a Tesla, in lots of other cases it means very much _not_ a Tesla.
@@tonyn3227 This may be because of Kia's "technology." Tesla, of course, has more market share. But just as Americans ride Japanese cars more than American cars, those who prefer Korean cars in electric cars prefer their technology above all else. You know, Japanese cars come first in quietness, and Korean cars in technology..
My prior car was also a Kia EV6 that had a severe level 2 charging issue in which it stopped being able to charge. After it took over three weeks to fix I ended up selling it back to Kia and getting a MY instead. Had it not had the level 2 charging issue though I'd likely still have it now.
Look at he Car Care Nut videos on the Ionic. He makes a case on how vastly inferior the tech on the Hyundai/ Kia products are to the Tesla. He's a mechanic and he's quite convincing.
What you needed to do is adjust the steering wheel, put your set back and that would adjust your foot on the peddles. Look, you get what you pay for. I have a EV6 First Edition that I preordered two years ago, and it has all the bells and whistles. The lower trims are for people that don't need or want the bells and whistles but a lower price point. You get what is almost a basic trim and complain about what it doesn't have. All safety features are turned on when the car is delivered. Some fool has gone through and turned them off. You did future drivers a favor by putting them back as they should be.
Hertz employees should be resetting or turning on safety features before renting it to someone else
My neighbor with a brand new truck with all options. 1 year later he backed into a car at a parking lot and damaged both cars pretty bad. I said..wait how if you have parking sensors and a back up camera ?! He goes..o I turned off all the sounds , I found it annoying….
Has KIA fixed the issue with the 12 volt battery dieing ?
Kind of, sort of I'd say. Apparently they ship from Korea with 12v batteries that are absolute crap, they can't handle cold weather at all. So where I live (up north in Europe) a lot of owners has gotten these replaced on warranty (in some cases after some pushback from Kia). They also released an update that wakes the car up more frequently for maintenance charging of the 12v battery that seems to help a lot. After I got the battery replaced, and the update applied I have not had any issues since then.
You think you hate it now,but wait until you drive it.
Kathy Lee has nothing on Out of Spec Kathy!

Agreed. Not sure why would anyone choose kia over tesla, tesla wins in every way, not to mention great charging infrastructure. Wise choice.
@@johnlarson7573 legacy mfgs. Cannot catch to Tesla. Most likely they never will. They will always fall short in some areas
Dave would you do a video on a 2014 Tesla with autopilot 1
I'm guessing this will end up being a review of Hertz and their substandard service as much as an EV6 review.
Look at he Car Care Nut videos on the Ionic. He makes a case on how vastly inferior the tech on the Hyundai/ Kia products are to the Tesla. He's a mechanic and he's quite convincing.
Anyone can read the brochure get to the drives and car man
Gently used EV6s are going for cheap on the used car market
What you needed to do is adjust the steering wheel, put your set back and that would adjust your foot on the peddles. Look, you get what you pay for. I have a EV6 First Edition that I preordered two years ago, and it has all the bells and whistles. The lower trims are for people that don't need or want the bells and whistles but a lower price point. You get what is almost a basic trim and complain about what it doesn't have. Good grief, come on guy.
Enough about missing the crystal ball, Kathy! Get over it. Lol
This car is way overpriced for the descent performance one, the ones under $47k are jut dogs
I gave up on this video after about 20 minutes. If I wanted to look at the Kia website, I could do that myself I watch this channel to get people your opinion of things not to watch you surf the Internet.
Chapters in the description for this exact purpose of skipping what you don’t want to watch Steve. To make it even easier, maybe you should just not waste your time at all with my content going forward
@@outofspecdave1554 Agreed. I feel like it was a waste of my time reading his comment and needing to respond to it. I enjoy your channel Dave.
@@outofspecdave1554 I forgot this comment. Dude this is rude I have removed you. Kyle is better anyway. The apple fell far from this tree.
LOL is this dude really talking CRAP about a CAR HE RENTED not even OWNED ?
